Santino Marella Returns To Action, Million Dollar Man Speaks Out

— Santino Marella returned to action on tonight’s Raw SuperShow as he made quick work of Jinder Mahal. He defeated the SmackDown Superstar in approximately thirty seconds.

Marella suffered a separated left shoulder following a car accident September 1 in Toronto. “My car flipped sideways and the trunk hit a light pole, it completely crushed in,” Marella said of the accident to WWE.com. “The airbags deployed, and all I could smell was gunpowder. There was broken glass everywhere, and I tried to open the passenger door, but it was stuck. Luckily, there was still power in the car. I opened the sunroof and crawled out.”

— The Paisley Daily Express has published an article on “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase. The WWE Hall of Famer, a born-again Christian, gave teenagers at Paisley’s Castlehead High School words of warning on how to steer clear of life’s temptations after overcoming his own demons. DiBiase reveals that after his wife Melanie discovered his adultery, he was left with a stark choice – change his life or lose his family.

“He wasn’t very nice to people but now he wants to share that story with people. He stressed how he can’t blame the circumstances they find themselves in and neither should they. He told the kids to take responsibility for their own actions,” depute headteacher Liz Harris said of DiBiase’s inspirational talk. “He told the kids how important it is for them to make the right choices in life and they listened intently to his message. I think they all took a lot from the talk. It was a very positive message.”

WWE Booking Long Term, Punk’s Return, Santino Broken Nose

– In a move that is sure to please many fans, WWE is planning to make changes to its booking philosphy, namely, focusing on more long-term booking. WWE made an unprecedented move several months back by announcing John Cena vs. The Rock for next year’s WrestleMania a full year in advance – and it appears we’ll be seeing more big matches set up this way.  This is somewhat of an “old school” approach – with the company deciding on a featured match and then ‘working backwards’

– Santino Marella suffered a broken nose during a match taped prior to RAW for Thursday’s Superstars. Santino and Chris Masters wrestled WWE Tag Team Champions David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty.

– According to reliable sources in WWE, the decision to have Punk return on this week’s RAW was not made until Monday afternoon. There had been some discussion about keeping him off television until next week, but WWE hit the “fast forward” button and brought him back earlier than originally planned.

Reason For Change To WrestleMania Match, Update On Kingston

WWE’s creative team plugged Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov into the Eight Man Tag Team Match with The Corre at Wrestlemania XXVII after it was decided that Christian would be in Edge’s corner when “The Rated-R Superstar” defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio. Christian and Kofi Kingston were originally pegged for the match.

It also said that Marella had “earned a spot on the card” based on his tenure with WWE. Management reportedly feels he “hits a home run” with whatever he is told to do on television and since he hadn’t yet worked a WrestleMania match (WrestleMania XXV nonwithstanding), he was to be rewarded.

In regards to Kingston not being currently slotted for a match at the event, there has been talk in the last day of him facing Drew McIntyre.

Batista’s Contract Expiring?, WWE Makes Mistake With T-Shirt

— Batista is apparently working on a contract that is set to expire in the near future. The multi-time champion said in interview published on May 5, 2009 by The Sun that he had just under a year left on his deal at the time.

“I have just under a year on my contract. I’ve just come off this injury and I turned 40 while I was out. I realize that I am closer to the end of my career than I am to the beginning,” Batista told The Sun. “It’s something I’m really going to have to take a look at. I don’t want to hang around past my welcome. I also don’t want to hang around to the point where I’m so beat up that it’s hard for me to get out of bed. I don’t want to be that guy.”

Shortly after the interview took place, Batista suffered a legitimate torn left biceps and was sidelined for three months as a result. In case of injury, WWE has the option of extending a performer’s contract for the duration of his or her sabbatical. Hence, it appears likely that his contract will expire sometime this summer rather than within the next few weeks.

It should be noted that Batista has been telling friends in the locker room that he is planning to take a break soon. He’s even gone so far as to claim that he’s looking to wind down his in-ring career and focus on acting.

— Due to an oversight, the artwork on Santino Marella’s latest T-shirt, “Beware the Cobra,” omits his trademark uni-brow, although the uni-brow does appear in graphics for WWEShop.com. Nonetheless, Marella guarantees that anyone who purchases one of his T-shirts and approaches him will have the eyebrows connected and their T-shirt autographed. (Santino sweats the brow)

— The WWE website has posted photos and video of Superstars and Divas teeing off at the annual WrestleMania Pro-Am Golf Tournament.
