Mercedes Mone Talks Difficulty With WWE During Filming Of ‘The Mandalorian’

Mercedes Mone loves the WWE, but she says they were difficult to deal with when she was offered a role in The Mandalorian.

Speaking on HOT 97 in promotion for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, the former Sasha Banks talked about her time under the Star Wars banner as Koska Reeves, and how WWE wasn’t as enthused with her being in a galaxy far, far away.

“I love WWE but they tried so hard to not make me do the Mandalorian and put me on house shows when I was supposed to film.”

Mercedes noted that WWE would put her on house shows to further complicate her Mandalorian aspirations.

“It was pulling teeth just to get on that show.”

Someone who is familiar with pulling teeth is Mone’s next big rival in AEW, Britt Baker, DMD. Mone secured a solid victory against Stephanie Vacquer on Sunday before Baker walked out to make clear she has her eyes on Mercedes multiple gold.

When WWE Stars Go Hollywood

In the past, WWE garnered a reputation for not being supportive of talent outside the “WWE Universe.” Even back when Batista first got casted as Drax The Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise, WWE didn’t do any promotion for the film despite the fact that “The Animal” made his return for WrestleMania XXX.

Another talent familiar with WWE stonewalling their silver screen aspirations was The Rock. Aside from his WWE film projects, WWE didn’t exactly herald The Rock’s initial rise stardom until he came back into the company fold. On the flip side of that, The Rock had to distance himself a little from his pro wrestling past when he tried his hand at Hollywood.

Circumstances may be greatly different in WWE without Vince McMahon at the helm. With The Rock now on the TKO Board Of Directors and Triple H being more open-minded, Mone and other modern talent could be getting the WWE support from outside ventures.

Welcome to the Daily Drop for Wednesday, April 17, 2024. WWE brought a packed episode of WWE NXT last night, as they continue telling their stories past WrestleMania 40 weekend.

Before we get going, Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes threw down in a cage match at the end of NXT this week. After the show, they had a pretty special moment for fans in the NXT Arena.

WWE:

NXT Spring Breakin: WWE added a few top matches to the Spring Breakin special event. You can check out the updated card here.

Rey Mysterio Speaks: SEScoops has an exclusive interview up with Rey Mysterio, where he spoke about his daughter reuniting with CM Punk.

Copeland on Retirement: Speaking to Brandon Walker on Mostly Sports, Copeland spoke highly of the acting experience he was able to gain while he was out of the pro wrestling world. He said, “I’ve lived a lot more life. As strange as that sounds, it actually does add to your utility belt out there. As a performer, any kind of performer, they have to dip into a place to pull the character off. It’s the same with wrestling. That, more than anything, is what I’ve noticed coming back. Some of the skillset I got in the acting I did during those nine years off, I did over 100 episodes of television when I was retired.

CM Punk Chants: Footage has emerged from the crowd during AEW Dynamite last week, where you could hear “F*ck CM Punk” chants. It doesn’t seem like this was a chant that was participated in by a ton of people.

Mercedes Mone Is All Elite: Former Sasha Banks Makes AEW Debut During Big Business

AEW brought an exciting Big Business edition of Dynamite to fans in Boston this week. The debut of Mercedes Mone was expected, and fans were not disappointed.

After a lot of speculation and many reports that she is coming to the Land of All Elite, Mercedes Mone made her debut for AEW at Big Business on March 13th.

Mercedes Mone’s AEW Debut

AEW Dynamite opened up this week with Renee Paquette doing a talk-up backstage to hype tonight’s show. Then, a Maybach pulled up behind her, but they didn’t show who got out of the car at that time.

Then the show opened up with a new star’s music, and CEO showed on the big screen. That morphed into Mercedes Mone, and she made her way out to a big ovation from the Boston crowd.

She said that she is home, and then she thanked fans for sticking by her. She said that they will create magic in AEW, and she said that they are the reason that she is there.

Mercedes then said that she is in AEW to make a big impression. She can’t wait to mix it up with the women in the roster and have some incredible matches. She brought up unfinished business she has with Willow, but she said that the biggest business she had to said that she is All Elite.

Mercedes Mone & WWE

WWE and Mercedes Mone were talking about her coming back to the company. Then they hit a financial roadblock.

It was later reported that Mone wasn’t asking for more than the top female makes on the WWE roster. That being said, AEW was obviously able to offer her more, and now she is All Elite.

We will have to see if her road ever takes her back to WWE. At this point, she is just getting started in AEW.

SEScoops will have continued coverage of Mercedes Mone’ run in AEW. You never know what can happen next at this point.

Mercedes Mone Explains Bold WWE Exit: Here’s What Happened To Sasha Banks

As Mercedes Mone gears up for the next chapter of her wrestling career, the former Sasha Banks is has a healthy outlook on her WWE run, which ended abruptly in May 2022.

During a recent appearance on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mone explained why the decision to leave her dream job with WWE was a pivotal moment in her life.  As hard as it was to leave that life behind, she’s grateful for that chapter in life and all the opportunities it’s afforded her as she continues her journey.

This candid look into how she was feeling should give fans a better idea about what went on behind the scenes.

Mercedes Opens Up About WWE Departure

Mone expressed that she felt compelled to take this step and advocate for herself. Despite wrestling in WWE being a significant part of her life, she faced the toughest decision she’s ever encountered. Nevertheless, she considers it the proudest decision she’s made.

“Something told me I needed to do this & stand up for myself. It was a very hard decision because wrestling in WWE has been my whole life, hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my whole life but it’s the most proudest, it’s crazy because I would not be sitting here, living the best version of my life, in getting to be everything I’ve ever dreamt of — & more

That moment changed my whole life for the better. I’m so thankful for that moment, so proud of myself, so proud of Trinity, so proud of how strong we were. I just know that everybody acted like they were in the room, or work there, or were backstage, or knew what happened, or knew what said…but all I know is that I handled it like a CEO, like the boss that I am, with my head held up high & I can’t say nothing but amazing things to WWE, so thankful for the career they gave me, the fans they gave me, the life they gave me, the dreams they gave me.”

This is not the first time she’s had to set the record straight about why she left WWE and her beloved Sasha Banks persona behind.

It’s Almost Boss Time

AEW Big Business

Mercedes Mone is finally ready return to the ring after missing the second half of 2023 due to an ankle injury. She’s kept a relatively lowprofile in wrestling as of late, but that’s all about to change. Fans are eagerly waiting her return to national television, which is all-but-guaranteed to go down next week.

After the recent roster additions of Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada, Mone is expected to debut next Wednesday, March 13 at the AEW Dynamite: Big Business special from Boston’s TD Garden.

Mone engaged in serious negotiations with WWE and AEW before making a decision. It’s clear that she put a lot of thought in her selection and sees All Elite Wrestling as the place where she can solidify a legacy on the level of greats such as The Rock and John Cena:

Mercedes Mone’s Price Tag: WWE Refused Top Salary Demand To Secure Sasha Banks’ Return

AEW is expected to bring in former WWE Superstar Mercedes Mone. A big date is set for Boston, and many are expecting her to show up on Collision. WWE was in the game for her, but it was already reported that they hit a financial roadblock. That being said, it seems that Mone wasn’t even asking for more than someone on the top of the Women’s Division is making.

Mercedes Mone’s Big Pay Day

AEW has a ton of money to throw around, but that hasn’t kept everyone around. Tony Khan admitted that he offered Jade Cargill more than she asked for to stay in AEW, but she is now a WWE Superstar. Mercedes Mone saw that money on the table and she took it.

Tony Khan has a lot of money to spend on AEW contracts. He has a reported net worth of $1 billion. His father, Shahid Khan, has a net worth of 11.7 billion. Mercedes Mone made it clear that she’s going to where the money is, and AEW was able to offer more.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Mercedes Mone asked WWE for a lot of money, but it wasn’t more than the top female Superstar is getting. One would assume that he is talking about Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, because they have the top paychecks in the women’s division.

“I don’t know her actual money demands, but I know in a general what she was looking for from WWE, and it was kinda in the range, and for a star of her caliber, while it would be a little bit more than WWE would be paying her, what she was looking for, maybe even more than a little bit more, but it was not more than they pay other women, and she was one of their bigger stars.”

AEW outbid WWE, and they’re getting The Boss. It was then stated that what this tells us is that when AEW is able to outbid for Mone, that they may be losing out on the deal financially. That being said, it’s not enough to worry the company, because “we would see it, because there would be talent cut.”

What’s Next

It is very much expected that Mercedes Mone will debut for AEW at their March 13th episode of Dynamite, that Big Business show in Boston’s TD Garden will provide the former Sasha Banks with a grand entrance for AEW in her hometown.

On a totally unrelated note, but I couldn’t resist from including this, AEW also rolled out a similar red carpet for CM Punk’s debut. They booked a large arena in Chicago without announcing Punk’s debut. They simply strongly alluded to it by naming that episode of Rampage “The First Dance.”

Of course, CM Punk and Sasha Banks both walked out of WWE. At this point, Punk is back in WWE, albeit he’s on the shelf due to an untimely injury. Now, it’s Mercedes Mone’s time to get a spotlight in AEW.

Current Expected Timeframe For Mercedes Mone’s Pro Wrestling Return

Mercedes Mone is not returning to WWE by the look of things, but it’s only a matter of time before fans see her perform again. The plans are already underway for that to happen for the former Sasha Banks.

Current Expectation for Mercedes Mone

Sean Ross Sapp shed more light on the Mercedes Mone issue on Fightful Select. It was reported that the current expectation is that Mone will show up in AEW next month.

AEW President Tony Khan sparked speculation on Wednesday with the announcement of an upcoming major announcement on the February 7 episode of AEW Dynamite. While the details remain unconfirmed, there are implications that it might be linked to the anticipated presence of Mercedes Mone in AEW. However, it is not explicitly stated that her signing will be part of the rumored announcement.

Despite the lack of official confirmation, information from various sources within the company and close to Mercedes suggests that the tentative plan in All Elite Wrestling is for her to make a physical appearance in March, likely after the Revolution PPV. The exact date of her potential in-ring debut remains undisclosed.

However, what we have heard from numerous talent is that they’ve been told within the company and from those close to Mercedes that the working plan in All Elite Wrestling is for her to physically appear for the company in March, likely after the Revolution PPV. We have not been told when she could make an in-ring wrestling debut for the company.

Mercedes Mone May Already Be Signed To AEW

Contrary to fan speculation, it was clarified that Mone’s signing or debut was not intended to be announced at Collision over the past weekend.

According to WWE sources, as of December 29, WWE acknowledged they were no longer in contention for Mercedes. It was also suggested that she might not have been available for the Royal Rumble performance anyway.

Both WWE sources and AEW talent reportedly share the belief that Mercedes has been signed with AEW for several weeks. However, AEW has not officially confirmed any details related to this story.

SE Scoops will keep an eye on this story for further developments. Mercedes Mone’s time away from the ring isn’t going to last much longer at this point.

Updated Timeframe For Mercedes Mone’s Return to Wrestling

WWE lost Mercedes Mone and Trinity when they walked out of the company in May 2022. Since then, Naomi made her return to WWE during the 2024 Royal Rumble after a successful stint in TNA. Sasha Banks, on the other hand, has not returned. Now, the latest update casts even more doubt that will happen.

Update On Mercedes Mone’s Future

Mercedes Mone is no longer under any pro wrestling contract. That brought up big rumors about her WWE return, but it appears she is expected to appear elsewhere now.

There have been many developments for Mone over the past few months. Her NJPW contract expired, and she was free to discuss her future with another company, and that included WWE.

Although Mone and WWE were talking about her return, they seem to have hit a roadblock. Now, it is no longer anticipated that fans will see her WWE comeback, because another company is expected to snag her.

To provide an update on the situation, PW Insider has reported that Mercedes Mone will be back working in pro wrestling by March and “not for WWE.” This may disappoint some WWE fans, but at least she will be seen soon enough.

Although it was not explicitly stated, the current thought is that Mercedes Mone is going to end up in AEW. That debut has obviously not happened yet. AEW Revolution will take place on March 3rd in the Greensboro Coliseum. The event will see Sting’s final match, but it may also include Mercedes Mone’s debut for the company if this report lines up.

What’s Next For Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone just registered trademarks for, what could be, a clothing line. She has other options in the entertainment industry, as her acting career could see more credits than the Mandalorian down the line.

Bayley may believe that her story with Mercedes Mone will live on forever, but the former Sasha Banks is not making a return to WWE at this point. It will be interesting to see if her road brings her back to the company, but that isn’t happening this time around.

AEW Expected To Land Two Major Free Agent Signings

AEW is well aware of the free agent market right now, and Tony Khan intends to remain a player for big contracts. It appears that All Elite Wrestling is very close to locking down two deals that could be incredibly important for the company’s future.

AEW’s Reported New Signings

In terms of Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that there is a belief that both will start with AEW soon. Mone is anticipated to have a substantial debut, with an announcement expected shortly. Despite negotiating with WWE, her return to AEW was anticipated for several months, even predating her appearance at Wembley, where she had to appear while seated due to her still-recovering ankle injury. However, until the contract is finalized, nothing is definite due to significant differences in financial terms.

As for Okada, the latest information indicates that he has not yet made a final decision. Speculation among various individuals ranges from hopefulness to a degree of confidence regarding his potential arrival. If Okada were to sign, the probable start would align with the Greensboro show, with his final New Japan date set for February 24th. In the event of a WWE signing, it could potentially be postponed until WrestleMania.

Regarding Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone, the belief from this side is that both will be starting soon. Mone was doing acting work, but there is talk her debut will be played up extremely big and that announcement could be soon. She has been back training to return to the ring.

What’s Next

It’s noteworthy that Tony Khan has expressed particular enthusiasm for 2024, anticipating new signings and returns in the coming months, including MJF, Adam Cole, Kenny Omega, Bandido, Rey Fenix, Pac, and Britt Baker. As of this writing, MJF is still believed by many within the business to be under AEW contract.

Tony Khan has some big plans for 2024, and he is very excited about the possibilities. They’ve brought big names into AEW before, but signing Okada and the former Sasha Banks to deals would be a great way to start this year in the Land of All Elite.

Bayley Believes Her Story With Mercedes Mone Will Live On Forever

Mercedes Mone and WWE were speaking during a time, but that came to a financial roadblock. Now, all indications point toward an AEW debut very soon. Still, Bayley still believes her story with The Boss will last forever.

Bayley Believes She Will Face Mercedes Mone Again

Bayley, who once admitted that she begs Mercedes Mone to make a WWE return at every chance she has, recently spoke about her old friend, the former Sasha Banks. As Bayley sees it, there is still story left to be written for the two.

While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Bayley admitted that it is their destiny to face each other again. She firmly stated that their story has the ability to live on forever in pro wrestling lore.

“We’ll always be destined for one more match. We’re going to live on forever because of that match, and it’s something we can carry on forever.”

What Happened To Sasha Banks’ WWE Return

WWE and Mercedes Mone were talking about a return, but then those negotiations hit a roadblock. Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select at the time that, although the dialogue was friendly, the process was ended as WWE walked away from the deal.

Top free agent Mercedes Mone aka Sasha Banks and WWE had been engaged in conversations to possibly bring her back to the company. However, WWE sources stated to Fightful Friday night that the two sides are no longer in active negotiations regarding a return. The two sides had recently been engaged in conversations about a return. We’re told the dialogue was friendly, the back and forth failed to progress, and WWE sources claim that their side walked as a result of it.

Bayley & Mercedes Mone’s Current Relationship

Bayley and Mercedes Mone are still close, and the two old friends are still in close contact. They were both spotted watching Trinity at TNA Wrestling’s Hard to Kill event

There may be a spot open for Mercedes on the Damage CTRL roster, because that stable apparently can’t get enough members. All signs point toward Mone’s eventual AEW debut, so a WWE return may have to wait.

Mercedes Mone & Bayley Spotted Watching Trinity’s TNA Wrestling Hard To Kill Match

Trinity Fatu battled Jordynne Grace at TNA Wrestling’s Hard to Kill event. The pro wrestling world was watching, and she had two very special friends who were also there to see her big match.

Mercedes Mone & Bayley Spotted At TNA Wrestling Hard To Kill

TNA Wrestling hosted their Hard to Kill event on pay-per-view. The event featured noteworthy moments, such as Trinity Fatu’s potential final match in the company.

It was previously reported that the current thought is that Naomi will make her return to WWE. So, Fatu lost her Knockouts Title to Jordynne Grace, marking her 3rd reign with the title.

During Hard to Kill, Mercedes Mone and Bayley were seen behind the French announce team’s table, witnessing the matchup between Trinity and Jordynne Grace. They were not shown on screen during the actual pay-per-view event.

Both Bayley and Money were decked out in shades, and beanies, but they were still spotted. It was obvious who they were, but the two stayed off the radar, because they were not there to be a focus.

What’s Next For Mercedes Mone

As of right now, Mercedes Mone appears to be heading to AEW, but she has not debuted for the company yet. It was reported that talks with WWE stalled, because they were far apart with money.

Even if Mercedes Mone and Bayley end up in different wrestling companies, they are still very close. Their presence at Hard to Kill also proves that Naomi has their support.

Mercedes Mone’s AEW Arrival Is Expected Soon

Mercedes Mone is anticipated to make her debut on AEW television in the near future, according to sources within the company. The big question is when that debut will take place.

Mercedes Mone May Become All Elite

Dave Meltzer emphasized that the certainty of her appearance is contingent on the formalization of a signed contract. AEW has been known to have stars sign contracts just before their debut, so there is no word on whether anything official has been signed.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that there were no indications or teases during the last night’s show regarding Mercedes Mone’s potential appearance in Jacksonville. Despite this, AEW is reportedly expecting her to start her television journey soon.

On last night’s show there were no teases for Mercedes Mone or for her appearing Wednesday in Jacksonville. What I know is that AEW does expect her to start on TV soon, but as noted, until it happens and the contract itself is signed, I wouldn’t consider anything 100 percent.

One would think there would be some sort of a tease of a surprise if she was to appear, since that’s been the case with most major signings. But Sting’s original debut in Jacksonville came out of nowhere.

Mercedes Mone’s Expected AEW Arrival

Dave Meltzer previously noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that, “WWE and AEW have clearly both been talking with her. Obviously this has gone on with AEW for months, if not a year, and she’s never signed yet. There was a lot of talk within wrestling of her on this week’s Dynamite, which she wasn’t on.”

He continued to say, “We do know that the expectation is she will be in AEW fairly soon, but until a contract signing is confirmed, anything can happen.”

AEW Dynamite will air their Homecoming episode from Daily’s Place on Wednesday, January 10th. That very well may be the first time we see Mercedes Mone grace an AEW ring, but AEW hasn’t dropped any blatant teases to confirm those theories yet.

There were talks between Mercedes Mone and WWE, but they reportedly hit a financial roadblock. Bayley still begs Mercedes to make a return at every chance she can, but it appears that the former Sasha Banks may sign with AEW after all.

Update on Mercedes Mone’s Next Move In Pro Wrestling

Sasha Banks’ WWE walkout in May 2022 still stands as her swansong with the company. Although there was some hope that Mercedes Mone would come back to WWE, it appears that homecoming hit a snag.

Mercedes Mone’s WWE Return is Reportedly Nixed

Mercedes Mone and WWE were talking about a return for The Boss. Then, they hit a financial roadblock, as the two sides couldn’t come together when it came to money.

It was previously reported that Mercedes Mone is no longer expected to make a WWE return. The expectation is that she will go somewhere else, and that will be very soon.

AEW Is Expected to Get Mercedes Mone

Now, a new report from Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select points to the idea that Mercedes Mone’s AEW debut is now the most popular idea for her.

Those that we’ve spoken to expect her to land in All Elite Wrestling, though nobody could confirm she’s signed on the dotted line. Of late in both WWE and AEW, there have been instances – specifically with Will Ospreay and CM Punk – where the physical contracts were not signed until the day of their appearances with AEW and WWE respectively. One source claimed that they heard AEW and Mercedes were close to agreeing on terms, but said “it’s never official until it’s official.”

Nothing is official until it actually happens, because pro wrestling contracts can come together in a hurry. AEW has lost a few notable names in recent memory, but bring in Mercedes Mone could be a massive boost for their roster.

Mercedes Mone’s Deal For WWE Return Hits Financial Roadblock

Sasha Banks walked out of WWE in May 2022, and she has done her own thing for over a year since then. Although a return to WWE was in the cards for Mercedes Mone, it appears that money is now an issue.

WWE and Mercedes Mone’s Current Status

Charlotte Flair just inked a new deal with WWE, said to be the highest female contract extension in company history. It appears that Mercedes Mone wants WWE to back up the Brinks truck to her home as well.

Talks between WWE and Mercedes Mone have stopped, as we previously reported. That isn’t to say that her return to the company is impossible, but they need to come to a deal.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Mercedes Mone and WWE were far apart on money. That obstacle stopped their deal from moving forward. It is also important to note that it’s not over until it’s over.

“She was absolutely talking with WWE. From what I was told, they were far apart on money. There was one person in WWE who said, “until she shows up and signs a contract, just remember what happened with Punk.” I was told that this afternoon, “just remember what happened with Punk.” I was told that by multiple people that they were far apart on money.”

CM Punk’s WWE Deal Could Be A Blueprint For Mercedes Mone’s Return

CM Punk and WWE worked out a deal for his return to the company, long after everyone had already reported that there were no talks. Many assumed that it was too late for WWE to work anything out with CM Punk for a Survivor Series return, but it happened as he inked his new deal on the day before that November 25th event in Chicago’s Allstate Arena.

After recent trademark filings from Mercedes Mone, some have speculated that she may open a fashion line. It seems to be her decision at this point, because options are on the table for her.

Mercedes Mone’s situation could be very similar to CM Punk’s because her deal isn’t inked yet, either. You never know if WWE can work something out with her, but she may need another few zeros added to her downside guarantee.

Mercedes Mone Is No Longer In Talks For WWE Return — Expected To Appear Elsewhere Imminently

Mercedes Mone is no longer under any pro wrestling contract. That brought up big rumors about her WWE return, but it appears she is expected to appear elsewhere now.

Mercedes Mone’s WWE Return Status Revealed

Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that, at this time, WWE and Mercedes Mone are no longer engaged in active conversations about her making a return to the company.

It was also noted that another source “believed that she would end up appearing elsewhere imminently, but didn’t state where.”

AEW is set to hold their Worlds End Show this Saturday, followed by NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom next week, and TNA Wrestling is gearing up for a rebranding ahead of Hard to Kill in two weeks. So, Mercedes Mone has a few options if she wants to make a big debut on a special night.

Mercedes Mone’s Future in Pro Wrestling Uncertain

This is quite shocking, because many fans were really hoping for Sasha Banks’ return to the company. It doesn’t appear that is in the cards right now.

Mercedes Mone just registered trademarks for, what could be, a clothing line. She has other options in the entertainment industry, as her acting career could see more credits than the Mandalorian down the line.

Although Bayley opened stated that she begs Mercedes Mone to make a return to WWE at every chance she can, it doesn’t appear that worked. This is also in spite of how amazing Triple H has booked the Damage CTRL stable over the past year, something that Mercedes Mone certainly saw from afar.

Mercedes Mone Secures New Trademarks As WWE Return Speculation Heats Up

Sasha Banks walked out of WWE in May 2022, along with Naomi, because they were tired of Vince McMahon’s booking. Mercedes Mone arrived in NJPW at the following Wrestle Kingdom, but her time in Japan could be over now. With a rumored WWE return on the horizon, The Boss is filing new trademarks.

Mercedes Mone’s New Trademarks

Mercedes Mone is gearing up for her return to the wrestling scene, leaving fans in suspense about her next destination. Adding an unexpected twist, she has recently secured rights to new trademarks.

According to PW Insider, Mone filed for trademarks like “Mone Wear,” “Time Is Mone,” and “Mone Talks” on December 22nd with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The filings were facilitated by patent attorney Michael E. Dockins, who has become famous for helping pro wrestlers lock down trademarks. In a day where intellectual property is king, Dockins is the man to call for pro wrestlers.

Those new trademarks for Mercedes Mone encompass entertainment and clothing purposes, hinting at a potential venture into the fashion world for Mone. She may just be locking down those names for safe keeping as well.

Mercedes Mone’s Career After WWE

Post-WWE, Mone’s wrestling journey included a big victory where she captured the IWGP Women’s Championship at NJPW Battle in the Valley in February 2023. She went on to drop that title to Mayu Iwatani in April 2023. However, during a match for the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Championship, she injured her ankle, and that put her out of action for months.

That unexpected injury saw Willow Nightingale win that match, even though she wasn’t booked to win.

Mercedes Mone’s Expected WWE Return

Mercedes Mone has teased that she has WWE on her mind. This is no secret, as she is no longer under NJPW contract. Fans are speculating in massive fashion that the 2024 Royal Rumble will see her return.

Sasha Banks left WWE because of Vince McMahon, who is no longer a creative factor anymore. Now that Triple H is running the ship, and Mercedes Mone saw what he did with Damage CTRL, that might give the former Women’s Champion a bigger reason to return.

That being said, Sasha Banks will command a huge pay day upon her return to WWE. The good news is that WWE has a ton of money to spend on top talent right now.

Mercedes Mone Had WWE On Her Mind With Recent Social Media Drop

WWE fans were shocked with Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of WWE in May 2022. Now, over a year removed from that controversial moment, and The Boss is getting a new spotlight thanks to a possible WWE return.

Mercedes Mone’s Current Contract Status

Mercedes Mone successfully revitalized her career and as she took her talent to Japan. She is no longer under any NJPW contract anymore, leaving her next choice in the pro wrestling business up in the air.

Some anticipate Mercedes Mone’s return to WWE, especially with Charlotte Flair currently sidelined due to injury. It would be perfect timing for Sasha Banks’ return, since the Royal Rumble is coming up in a matter of weeks.

Mercedes Mone Drops WWE Tease

Mercedes Mone recently shared a photo on her Instagram story, taken outside the TD Garden in Boston. That was the venue for WWE’s December 27th live event as part of their Holiday tour.

Although Mercedes Mone wasn’t actually in Boston for the December 27th show, she may have had WWE on her mind. We will have to see if Sasha Banks is back on the WWE roster the next time they travel to Beantown.

Mercedes Mone’s Future in Pro Wrestling

Mercedes Mone’s asking price for a new contract is very high, as some have speculated that she may want more than Charlotte Flair received for her latest contract extension. The Royal Rumble Premium Live Event on January 27th may provide a great platform for her return.

It was also reported that AEW no longer has a working plan to bring Mercedes Mone in. They did have plans for her, as proof by her appearance at AEW All In London, but she was injured at the time. Now that she is healthy again, we will have to see what happens.

What will it take to get Sasha Banks back in WWE?

The wrestling business seemingly has many talents, reaching new deals or preparing to explore free agency. Recently, it was reported by Fightful Select that Charlotte Flair signed an extension with WWE that would make her the highest-paid female talent in the company’s history.

While free agency is looking for lucrative deals, it seems that former WWE talent Mercedes Moné (FKA Sasha Banks) has her number for what it would take for someone to sign her.

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp shared on Twitter that the talk within the wrestling industry is that Moné’s asking price is higher than the deal that Flair received from WWE. It’s worth noting that the asking price would be negotiated and isn’t definitive of what she could get to sign. However, if true, it does share what  Moné values herself in the wrestling business.

The former New Japan Pro Wrestling superstar is looking to make her in-ring return next year after recovering from an ankle injury. Moné suffered the injury in a match against Willow Nightingale at NJPW Resurgence on May 21. At one point, it was speculated that she could’ve made a return this year, but that isn’t the case. In November, she let her fans know that she is working towards making a comeback in 2024

Regarding her contract status, it was reported that she isn’t in a deal with NJPW and could sign anywhere. All Elite Wrestling was believed to be her destination, but that may no longer be the case.

Could WWE Bring Mercedes Moné(Sasha Banks) Back To The Company

While AEW could strike a deal with Moné, it seems that WWE is also a candidate. Heading into 2024, WWE has been looking to re-sign talent and is also interested in signing stars who are free agents.

Moné could be on WWE’s radar as they look at their options to strengthen their already impressive roster. SEScoops’ own Aaron Varble shared exclusively on December 11 with sources within WWE that there have been no contract talks between the company and Moné in the last 30 days. However, that could change as the WWE has begun locking down talent with new deals and looking forward to 2024.

It’s unclear if Moné will ultimately return to WWE, but it seems she is looking for an incredible deal for whoever is interested.

Internal word on Mercedes Mone/Sasha Banks possibly returning to WWE

Mercedes Mone has fans eagerly awaiting word on her next move in the world of pro wrestling.

The WWE Superstars formerly known as Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the company together in May 2022, relinquishing their WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in a defiant display aimed at Vince McMahon’s booking. They have both landed in other companies after that, and Trinity is now locked into a TNA Wrestling deal. That being said, Mercedes Mone’s contract status is a much more shrouded situation.

Triple H was asked by Ariel Helwani a few months ago if Sasha Banks’ return to WWE is a possibility. His response was, “Time will tell,” which left a lot to be interpreted, especially through his bearded grin.

Fans are still waiting for an official update about Mercedes Mone’s NJPW contract status. She was once thought to be a slam dunk for Tony Khan, as she showed up at AEW All In London. She remained seated during that brief appearance at Wembley Stadium, because she was still in a walking boot. That ankle injury was real, and she is just now approaching the end of that injury hiatus.

As the 2024 Royal Rumble looms closer on January 27th, some fans are hoping to see Sasha Banks make a return to WWE. With Triple H in control, anything is possible. During a recent episode of Keeping it 100, Konnan shared his view that ‘all roads lead back to WWE’ – especially for someone like ‘Sasha Banks’ – who achieved megastardom in WWE and then branched out in Hollywood.

“She’s a big megastar, looks professional, has worked on ‘The Mandalorian,’ … she’s from their system. I said this a couple of months ago, and I’m going to repeat it again — everybody comes back to WWE.”

Bayley also admitted that she “begs” Mercedes Mone every chance she can to make a WWE return. She also posted a photo of Mercedes alongside some Damage CTRL members recently, just to stir the pot even more.

Mercedes Mone Update (Exclusive)

I have spoken to sources within WWE who have confirmed to me on three separate occasions over the past 30 days that there are no contract talks between Mercedes Mone and WWE. The creative team is also not discussing any ideas for her return to the company. That being said, this is a much different time, especially how information flows within WWE.

I was told by a tenured member of the WWE team on December 12th that, “Sasha Banks’ name will only come up when there’s a deal.” Per one source, “There’s no deal, or no deal yet.”

CM Punk’s return during the closing moments of the 2023 Survivor Series premium live event in Chicago meant a lot more than a massive pop in the Allstate Arena. It also signified that anything is really possible in WWE right now, as Triple H has obviously thrown away the old way doing a lot of things.

CM Punk’s Road Back To WWE

In April 2023, CM Punk showed up to visit with people backstage during a WWE RAW in Chicago, but Vince McMahon had him removed. Punk was also under AEW contract at the time, but no report surfaced saying that had anything to do with the reason why Mr. McMahon didn’t want Punk around.

Triple H admitted in the press conference after Survivor Series that CM Punk’s deal came together after everyone already thought it was too late to work something out. I spoke to sources in the company during that time, and they confirmed time and time again that there were no talks, and the WWE creative team knew nothing.

CM Punk made his return to WWE, as a huge shock to the creative team as well. It’s anyone’s guess how WWE will play their hand with a possible Sasha Banks return, but it’s possible that we have another situation where only Nick Khan and Triple H are aware of the surprise before the big moment.

Punk’s return shows the door is wide open for Sasha Banks (or Mercedes Mone) to walk right through. This is also perfect timing for the Royal Rumble, an event that is always sure to include a surprise or two.

Mercedes Moné Revs Up For More Outside Projects In 2023

Mercedes Moné continues to grow her resume outside of professional wrestling.

As she continues her post-WWE career, Mercedes Moné looks to etch her name in several non-wrestling endeavors as well. Later this year, Moné (real name Mercedes Varnado) will make her silver screen debut, starring in the action-thriller movie, “The Collective.” Besides her ventures into the film industry, the current IWGP Women’s Champion teased the launch of a makeup line and brand this year as well. It appears that there’s much more to come in 2023, though.

On the heels of signing a contract with the United Talent Agency, Moné spoke with TMZ Sports about her upcoming outside projects. Though she didn’t specify the extent of her agenda, Moné revealed she is “absolutely doing more” in television and film.

“I just signed with UTA. I just filmed a movie in October, in the middle of training in Mexico. So, I am doing so much. I am legit booked and busy and 2023 is just going to be the year of making money,” she said. “I wish that upon everybody, I hope everybody has an amazing year of getting the bag and being a boss, banking on yourself. You have to be a CEO of your own life, so, let’s go get the bag together.”

Under the guidance of UTA, Mercedes Moné will seize more opportunities within the landscapes of film, television, theater and more. Within the television realm, Moné previously starred as Koska Reeves in the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” and has racked up several other appearances on shows like “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out” and “Barmageddon.”

Bizarre WWE Video Package is Reminding Fans of Sasha Banks

IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Moné won’t be making her WWE return anytime soon, but WWE doesn’t want the fans to know that.

Moné debuted for New Japan Pro Wrestling at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January, over seven months after walking out of the May 16, 2022, edition of Raw.

At last month’s Battle in the Valley event, Moné captured the IWGP Women’s Championship from KAIRI, in the former’s first match post-WWE.

Video Package

On next week’s Raw, John Cena will make his return to WWE TV, in his first appearance since the final SmackDown of 2022.

Unsurprisingly, WWE is hyping up the appearance of the 16-time World Champion, with a video that has reminded fans of Sasha Banks.

WWE’s video said that next week, Raw would host the return “you’ve been banking on,” with text in a similar style to that of Banks’ WWE run.

There are currently no plans for Moné to appear on next week’s Raw or any future episode of WWE programming going forward.

John Cena’s Return

Mercedes Moné won’t be on next week’s Raw, but Cena will be, likely to set up a WrestleMania match with United States Champion Austin Theory.

A feud between the two began last year, and a match was rumored for Summerslam 2022, though that never transpired.

It is unclear whether WWE will put Theory’s U.S. title on the line for the match with Cena, who is kept away from the promotion due to his Hollywood commitments.

WWE WrestleMania 39 will take place on April 1, and April 2, in Inglewood, California, and will be WWE’s fourth two-night edition of the annual supershow.

Mercedes Monè’s First Title Challenger Revealed

After nine months away from the ring, Mercedes Monè, the former Sasha Banks, made her long-awaited return to in-ring action.

Back at Wrestle Kingdom 17 last month, ‘The CEO’ made her NJPW debut, attacking then-IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI after her match with Tam Nakano.

Over the weekend at Battle in the Valley, Monè got the better of KAIRI in an action-packed 26-minute showdown.

The bout has been met with critical acclaim and saw Monè nail her new DDT finisher, something that had gone awry between the pair at Wrestle Kingdom. The Battle in the Valley closed out with Monè joining IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada in the ring for a post-main event promo.

Now, just two days after the event, it appears Mercedes Monè’s first challenger is already in the wings.

Stardom Champion Challenges Mercedes Monè

Earlier today, Stardom held a press conference during which High Speed Champion AZM staked her claim.

The 20-year-old former Azumi got her hands on the High Speed Title for the second time almost a year ago. At Stardom Cinderella Journey 2022, AZM defeated Starlight Kid for the gold.

The High Speed Championship is typically reserved for Stardom’s high-flying performers, similar to Impact’s X-Division Championship. Considering AZM’s lightning-quick, big-bumping style, a match between her and Monè would likely be a thrilling affair.

At the press conference, AZM mentioned that ‘The CEO’ had mentioned her as a possible opponent previously. Keen to get the match booked, the Stardom sensation made clear the ball is now in Mercedes Monè’s court.

A key issue often cited by fans and pundits with Sasha Banks in WWE was her lack of longevity when it came to singles championship reigns on the main roster. Only the last of Banks’ six WWE Women’s Championship reigns saw her make some successful title defenses.

Considering she’s coming off her first match in nine months, it’s hard to envision ‘The CEO’ dropping the strap to AZM in her first defense. Regardless of the winner, though, this should be a high-octane clash to watch out for in the coming months.

Mercedes Moné Takes Another Step to Monetize Her Intellectual Property

Mercedes Moné has taken another step towards monetizing her independently owned intellectual property.

On January 11, 2023, Moné filed to trademark the phrase “The CEO”, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) database. The registration was filed under her company, Soulnado Inc.

Moné first attached “The CEO” moniker to her name on January 4th, as she made her debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling at Wrestle Kingdom 17. There, she attacked IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI, setting up a title match between the two at NJPW Battle in the Valley on February 18th (available on FITE). Now, Moné will be known as “The CEO” of the NJPW and STARDOM women’s divisions.

The newest trademark description mostly covers services related to professional wrestling and sports entertainment.

  • Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests
  • Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer
  • Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer
  • Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainment personality
  • Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality
  • Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network
  • Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes

Claiming Her Own Name And Fortune

Mercedes Monè

Following her exit from WWE, Mercedes Moné, formerly Sasha Banks, took matters into her own hands.

Her prior employer — WWE — typically owns and controls the names and characters associated with their talent, rendering them virtually unable to utilize them outside of the company. As a result, Moné cultivated her own brand, registering a series of trademarks aligned with her vision.

Previous trademarks of Moné’s widely aimed at the merchandise categories, such as jewelry, clothing, action figures, decals and entertainment services. In addition, Moné seems to be geared down a live performance path now as well, filing her real name, Mercedes Varnado, under the description of “live performances by an actor or musician” on December 1.

Recent filings of Moné’s include the other following names:

  • Mercedes Mone’
  • Mone’ Talks
  • Bank Mone’
  • Statement Maker
  • Moné Christmas

This most recent filing is just the latest instance of Mone’ embracing the ability to be independent and grow her IP on her own terms. Outside of professional wrestling, Mone’ has been branching out into the entertainment industry, fashion and even cannabis.

WWE Expects Mercedes Mone To Return Eventually

WWE expects Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks) to return to the company eventually.

As noted, Mone made her New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) debut this week at Wrestle Kingdom 17. She confronted IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI, teasing an eventual title match.

Also, it was teased that Mone could end up being revealed as Saraya’s surprise tag team partner against Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter for next week’s episode of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Dynamite in Los Angeles.

However, on yesterday’s episode, it was revealed that Saraya would be teaming up with Toni Storm instead. Baker did tease the Mone rumors during her own promo, suggesting that she is “The Boss.” Dave Meltzer shed some light on the situation during a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer noted that Mone is not in Los Angeles and is not coming to AEW. He speculates that Mone doesn’t want to make the commitment to AEW, as any would be a long-term one. It was added that WWE feels “very strongly” that she won’t wrestle for AEW.

Sasha Banks Mercedes Mone KAIRI NJPW Wrestle Kindom 17

In fact, WWE expects Mone back at some point after she gets this out of her system. Mone will do a few NJPW matches which will only keep her contracted for a short period of time. However, if she were to work with AEW it would likely be under a three-year deal minimum.

It wouldn’t be a smart move on AEW’s part to put Mone on television, only to have her back with WWE in a few months.

IWGP Women’s Championship Match Confirmed for NJPW Battle in the Valley 2023

Mercedes Mone’ may be mere weeks away from becoming the second-ever IWGP Women’s Champion now that her title match has been confirmed.

Mone’, who worked for years in WWE as Sasha Banks, made her New Japan Pro Wrestling debut at yesterday’s Wrestle Kingdom 17.

Banks attacked KAIRI, who had retained her title against Tam Nakano, and posed with the IWGP Women’s Title.

The Match

Banks made it clear in her attack that she wants to be the next IWGP Women’s Champion, and vowed to make KAIRI ‘bankrupt.’

On Twitter, the NJPW Global account confirmed that the two will face off the for the title, which will take place at NJPW Battle in the Valley on February 18.

The match will mark Mone’s first bout since a May 15, 2022 WWE Live event, where she and Naomi retained the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Shayna Baszler and Natalya.

In a video shared by NJPW Global, Mone’ encouraged fans to purchase the show on FITE.

History

This will be the first time that Mone’ and KAIRI have faced off for the IWGP Women’s Championship, but the two are far from strangers.

KAIRI’s final weeks in WWE on TV would see her face Mone’ multiple times as part of the feud between the Kabuki Warriors against Bayley & Sasha Banks.

Speaking on the post-Wrestle Kingdom press conference, Mone’ said that her history with the IWGP Women’s Champion played a part in her decision to target her first.

WWE Superstars Spotted in the Crowd at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

Karl Anderson and Mercedes Mone (aka Sasha Banks) may have made their presence felt at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom, but they weren’t the only WWE names at the event.

Anderson, who returned to WWE in October of last year, lost the NJPW Never Openweight Champion to Tama Tonga, kicking off the latter’s second reign.

Mone, who was quietly released from WWE in June 2022, debuted as Mercedes Mone and confronted IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI after her successful title defense.

WWE in Tokyo

Before Wrestle Kingdom got underway, it was reported that both Naomi and Bayley were in Japan.

In an update, ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reported that both women were seen in the crowd at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

While fans in attendance spotted the Damage CTRL member and the suspended WWE Superstar, neither was focused on by NJPW’s film team.

On Twitter, Bayley referenced her friend and Boss ‘n Hug Connection tag-team partner’s debut for New Japan.

Mercedes Mone: All Elite?

Mercedes Mone is part of the New Japan Pro Wrestling roster, but could her future rest with Tony Khan and AEW?

Sources in the company who spoke to Fightful Select have been “no sold” when they’ve asked if Mone will be Saraya’s upcoming tag team partner.

The British wrestler will team with a mystery partner on next week’s AEW Dynamite to face Britt Baker and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter.

Despite not being given any hint as to who it will be, talent in AEW are expecting the mystery partner to be Mone.
