Scorpio Sky On AEW Hiatus, Sting, WWE’s Anger Management

All Elite Wrestling’s Scorpio Sky recently sat down with Chris Van Vliet to reflect on his journey in wrestling and his time with the company. Sky has been a part of AEW since 2019 and is a two-time TNT Champion and one-half of the inaugural AEW World Tag Team Champions.

On His AEW Hiatus

Despite being an AEW original, Sky hasn’t appeared regularly in some time and his most recent AEW match was in September of 2023. On the podcast, Sky acknowledged that he’s “been in and out over the last couple of years.” While Sky said that some it has been down to injuries, he rejected the idea that he is ‘injury-prone.’

“I did get hurt about two years ago but I was okay within like a couple of weeks. But the problem is when you fall out of the rotation, we have so much talent, that it’s hard to get back in the rotation.”

During his absence, Sky has been working out and shared plans to get back on the independent scene. He said it’d be a “really fun thing” to go back to his roots and “have some banger matches.”

On Making an AEW Return

While Sky has the independents in his sight, his main goal right now is an AEW return. On the podcast, Sky said he feels ready to get back on TV.

“I’m ready. I think we’re just waiting for the right opportunity, for the right situation. Again, there are a lot of guys in the company and people coming in all the time… it’s just a little tough sometimes to work your way back.”

On Working With Sting

One of the biggest matches for Sky came at AEW Double or Nothing 2021 when he and Ethan Page faced Darby Allin and Sting. This would be the Icon’s first live match in AEW and his first match in front of a crowd since WWE Night of Champions 2015.

“That’s one of my favorite matches ever. I have two matches that are my favorite matches I’ve ever had and that’s one of them.”

The match was even more special as Sting had originally joined AEW under the proviso of only having cinematic matches. Sky added that Sting told himself and Page that he trusted them both to make sure he was okay in front of a live crowd.

“We just did the best we could to obviously protect him. But he’s a maniac and wants to do crazy things as well… He was in great shape. We had to talk him into not wearing a shirt.”

On Being Chris Jericho’s First AEW Loss

During the seventh episode of AEW Dynamite in 2019, Sky and Frankie Kazarian retained their World Tag Team Titles against Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara. This match marked Jericho’s first defeat in AEW, an accolade that isn’t lost on Sky.

“He’s world champion and then I pinned him and then we did the whole face-to-face interview thing and then I wrestled him for the title. He ended up going off with Moxley after that, which was a good little transition.”

Jericho, in Sky’s view, legitimized AEW and helped television networks take an interest in the upstart promotion. On the podcast, Sky even went as far as to compare Jericho legitimizing AEW to a certain WWE Hall of Famer.

“I always think it’s similar to when Hulk Hogan went to WCW in the mid-90s. It’s just like, it puts that stamp, okay, we’re we’ve arrived.”

On WWE’s Anger Management

Long before he was All-Elite, Sky appeared as ‘Harold’ in WWE’s anger management segments featuring Kane and Daniel Bryan (now AEW’s Bryan Danielson.) Despite being an official WWE production, A lot of ‘Harold’s’ work was on the fly.

“A lot of it was improv. I think there was a line where I put my hand on Kane’s thigh. And that one, I just did it, it wasn’t planned. I think the line was something like, Thank you for sharing Kane, it was just one of those things I had fun with and I didn’t expect anything of it.”

Despite being a wrestler at the time, there were never any plans for Harold to compete in WWE. Sky shared that he’s never watched the anger management segments in question, and finds it funny that fans still remember him for those angles, 12 years later.

Update on Several AEW Missing Talent – Miro, Hikaru Shida, & Others

A mixture of injuries and a lack of creative direction is keeping some stars of All Elite Wrestling away, it has been claimed.

AEW is home to a wide array of talent under a large roster, one that some fans believe is too large.

With limited weekly programming and no on-demand service (such as the WWE Network,) many wrestlers appear solely on AEW Dark or Dark: Elevation, or are seldom used.

Injuries

For many AEW stars, injuries are to blame for them missing weekly programming on TBS and TNT.

Fightful Select reports that Hikaru Shida is in her native Japan at this time and is dealing with a finger injury, but worked the recent Jericho Cruise, performing in a couple of matches.

Kris Statlander’s ACL injury continues to keep her away from the ring, though she has been backstage at several AEW shows in recent months, including the Lexington and Toronto shows.

After having knee surgery last May, Fightful were told that Leyla Hirsch is “slowly getting there,” and it has been said that she recently resumed in-ring training.

Missing

Not everyone who has been absent from AEW programming as of late is down with an injury.

In their report, Fightful notes that Scorpio Sky has been cleared to wrestle for months, after dealing with an injury last Summer.

While Sky was at the recent Impact Wrestling No Surrender event, the former TNT Champion hasn’t attended many AEW shows as of late.

Sky has several years left on his AEW deal, as he said in late 2021 that he signed a five-year extension.

Fightful was told that Miro is healthy and ready to go, but haven’t heard an update on creative discussions between he and All Elite Wrestling.

Miro has several years left on his contract after signing a four-year extension a year or so ago.

The former TNT Champion and three-time WWE United States Champion has had one match for AEW over the past eight months.

AEW Champion Set to Undergo MRI

One AEW Champion is scheduled for an MRI.

The wrestling business is hurting right now when it comes to injuries. For AEW, this was expected to be the “Summer of Punk” but CM Punk recently had to undergo foot surgery. Adam Cole has reportedly been dealing with a torn labrum.

On the WWE side, Cody Rhodes is expected to be out of action for four to six months after undergoing surgery for a torn right pectoral muscle.

Now, AEW is hoping another one of its current champions hasn’t sustained a serious injury.

Scorpio Sky Update

Last weekend, TNT Champion Scorpio Sky revealed he aggravated a knee injury during a recent title defense against Dante Martin. Sky said he was hoping that the issue isn’t too serious so that he can return to action soon.

In an update, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Sky is set to undergo an MRI soon.

Sky seemed to be moving around fine during the June 8 episode of Dynamite when he was cutting a promo. AEW has also planted the seeds for a future TNT Title match between Scorpio Sky and Wardlow.

Time will tell if Sky’s MRI results come back negative.

Another AEW Champion Dealing With An Injury

CM Punk isn’t the only AEW champion who is hurt.

During the June 3 episode of Rampage, Punk announced that he will be needing surgery due to an injury. While he won’t be relinquishing the AEW World Championship, an interim title will be put in place.

As mentioned, he isn’t the only AEW titleholder who is injured.

Scorpio Sky Injured

Reigning TNT Champion Scorpio Sky has announced that he has been dealing with knee issues. He aggravated the injury early in his recent title defense against Dante Martin.

Sky is hoping for the best.

https://twitter.com/ScorpioSky/status/1533125840355004416

“I went into last night’s match with my knee bothering me and unfortunately in the opening minutes I strained a muscle that goes from my knee up through my groin. My right leg was useless from then on.

“Despite that, wrestling in SoCal felt amazing even on one leg. Hopefully nothing serious and I’ll be back to defend again soon.”

It would be a tough break for AEW if two of its champions were out of commission for a period of time. The company was without its women’s champion Thunder Rosa on the June 1 episode of Dynamite due to illness.

It was said that before Double or Nothing, Rosa had also been dealing with nagging injuries. It’s currently unknown if she fully healed before her successful title defense against Serena Deeb.

AEW Reveals Custom TNT Championship For Scorpio Sky (Video)

As expected, AEW has given Scorpio Sky a new custom version of the TNT Championship.

During the May 25 episode of Dynamite, Dan Lambert announced that Sky’s TNT gold would be getting a makeover. This was in response to Sammy Guevara and Frankie Kazarian destroying Sky’s original championship.

On the May 27 episode of Rampage, the custom gold was revealed and it was indeed in the purple and gold LA Lakers-inspired colors:

https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1530325562966822912

Sammy, Tay Conti, and Kazarian interrupted the title presentation with a live feed of their invasion of American Top Team. They destroyed a trophy mantle and stole UFC Titles.

A mixed tag team match was then announced for Double or Nothing. It’ll be Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti, and Frankie Kazarian vs. Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page, and Paige VanZant.

If Team Sammy loses, then Guevara can never challenge for the TNT Title again.

AEW Set To Unveil Custom Championship On Rampage

The time has arrived for a fresh version of an AEW Title

During the May 25 episode of Dynamite, it was announced by Dan Lambert that Scorpio Sky will be receiving his brand new custom TNT Championship.

The custom title belt will be unveiled on the May 27 episode of Rampage.

Sky is the reigning TNT titleholder but his gold was destroyed by Sammy Guevara and Frankie Kazarian. Sky turned his back on Kazarian at the conclusion of the May 13 episode of Rampage.

This led to Kazarian’s alliance with Sammy and Tay Conti.

The custom championship had been expected ever since the TNT Title was destroyed.

Perhaps Sky will be getting a purple and gold spin on the championship given he’s a huge LA Lakers fan.

Unannounced Match Listed Internally For AEW Double Or Nothing

It looks like AEW’s upcoming Double Or Nothing PPV will be getting another match.

Double or Nothing is scheduled for May 29. It’ll be held inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main event is expected to be the AEW World Title match between champion Hangman Adam Page and CM Punk.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer is reporting that there is one match that hasn’t been announced for the card but is listed internally.

That is a mixed tag team match, as it’ll be Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti taking on either Ethan Page or Scorpio Sky and Paige VanZant.

The match is being described as “tentatively planned” for the show. Of course, plans can change.

AEW Introducing Several New Championship Belts Soon (Spoilers)

Championships don’t exactly come at a premium in wrestling and AEW is no exception.

Voices of Wrestling is reporting that the male and female winners of the Owen Hart Cup will be presented with special titles likely in place of trophies. The report also notes that these titles will have a black and pink theme to honor Owen Hart.

These championships are not expected to be defended.

The following section contains spoilers for the May 20 episode of AEW Rampage.

New Custom TNT Title?

AEW has already taped the May 20 episode of Rampage. During the show, there was a segment involving TNT Champion Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page, Dan Lambert, Sammy Guevara, and Frankie Kazarian.

At one point, Guevara and Kazarian destroyed Sky’s TNT Championship with a sledgehammer.

This seems to indicate that Sky could be getting a new custom championship soon. Of course, it’s speculation at this point but Sky does love some LA Lakers colors. Could we be seeing a purple and gold spin on the TNT Title?

We already know that AEW is planning to unleash Trios Titles in the future. AEW President Tony Khan confirmed the report from Dave Meltzer during an interview with TSN.

In fact, Khan said that those titles have been created for a while.

Scorpio Sky Wins The TNT Championship On Dynamite

Tonight’s episode of Dynamite was filled with many surprises and one of them was Scorpio Sky beating Sammy Guevara to become the new TNT champion.

This match was the main event of the night. The two men wasted no time and the match was taken outside the ring not too long after the bell rang.

Guevara broke out a table very early in the match. He set up Sky on the table and launched himself. However, Scorpio moved away, leaving Sammy to take the damage.

After this spot, Tay Conti came down to check on her boyfriend. The doctors decided to take the champion out but he argued and made his way back into the ring.

Sammy spat on his opponent and they started brawling again. Conti on the other hand got into an argument with the newest AEW signee Paige VanZant at the ringside.

The ending of the match saw Dan Lambert coming out and getting on the apron. Ethan Page tried to interfere in the match but Conti stopped him.

This led to VanZant attacking the Brazilian star and launching her into the stairs. The attack distracted Guevara, which allowed Sky to hit the TKO and pin Sammy to become the new champion.

This is Scorpio Sky’s first singles title in AEW. The title change ends Guevara’s 42 days long reign with the belt, which he won from Cody Rhodes.

AEW Star Signs Contract Extension

An AEW star will be sticking around with the company for years to come.

AEW has only been around for two years but the company has already had substantial success. In fact, the promotion has been able to offer contract extensions to its talent. One of those talents is current AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker.

Baker isn’t the only one who has gotten some extra love from AEW. During an interview with PWInsider, Scorpio Sky revealed that he has signed his own contract extension.

“He’s always shown faith in me, and it’s something that I’ve really truly appreciated. He saw something in me very, very early on. He still sees it, evident by the contract extension that I just signed so I’m going to be with AEW for a long, long time. A lot of that comes down to Tony Khan and his vision. There’s nothing more I can say about it. Nothing but good things to say about working for a guy like that.”

Scorpio Sky went on to reveal how long the extension is for.

“I did that right around the time of the Pay-Per-View. I’m happy to be with AEW for at least five more years.”

Sky is in the midst of quite the push on AEW TV along with Ethan Page and their manager, Dan Lambert. The two defeated Chris Jericho and Jake Hager in New York City. On the Oct. 15 episode of Rampage, Sky and Page will team with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos to take on Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, and Sammy Guevara.

Sky, Page, and dos Santos will be accompanied by UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal.

Scorpio Sky Believes Jorge Masvidal can Succeed in Pro Wrestling

All Elite Wrestling talent Scorpio Sky thinks MMA fighter Jorge Masvidal has a future in pro wrestling.

The Miami Herald Jim Varsallone spoke with Sky about working alongside Dan Lambert and American Top Team fighters. Sky shared that Masvidal could do it when asked about whom he thinks could make the transition to pro wrestling.

“Jorge Masvidal, he is a pro wrestler. He can do it. He gets it. I kind of talk to him a little bit; even in the fight game is a fan favorite,” said Sky. He continues, He got a little bit of character, he got a lot of swag, and he kicks ass. So that’s what you want.”

He also adds that Paige Van Zant and Junior Dos Santos could have a bright future in pro wrestling.

ATT Fighters Transitioning to Pro Wrestling

Fighters from ATT have been making appearances on AEW alongside ATT Founder Dan Lambert. He made his AEW debut with Jorge Masvidal and UFC Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes on the July 7th episode of AEW Dynamite. Lambert did a promo criticizing AEW fans, and Lance Archer attacked Lance Archer during the episode. Since then, Lambert and ATT fighters like Masvidal joined sides with Sky and Ethan Page’s tag team called Men of the Year.

The Men of the Year and Dan Lambert are currently feuding with Chris Jericho and Jake Hager. The group defeated Jericho and Hager at AEW Rampage Grand Slam on September 25th. The match ended after Sky rolled up Hager for the pin. After the match, ATT fighters, including Masvidal, Dos Santos, and Van Zant, also attacked the losing team.

AEW Reportedly Happy with ATT

ATT fighters and Lambert are reportedly well-liked behind the scenes in AEW. While Sky praised Masvidal and Van Zant, Dos Santos seems to be the stand-out fighter. “…Someone else that might surprise you is Junior Dos Santos. I think he is a wrestling fan and didn’t even know it. He’s been having a lot of fun with us,” said Sky. He also jokingly warned AEW World Champion Kenny Omega that Dos Santos would fight for the title one day.

It’s unclear if Masvidal or other ATT fighters will compete in AEW. However, it seems they have another career in pro wrestling ready for them.

Scorpio Sky Says ‘Someone In WWE’ Asked Him Not To Hurt Sting

AEW star Scorpio Sky recently appeared on the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast. Sky discussed a number of topics on the show, including his Double or Nothing PPV match.

Scorpio Sky will be teaming up with Ethan Page to take on Darby Allin and ‘The Icon’ Sting at the event in a tag team match. This match will Sting’s first in-ring bout as part of the All Elite roster.

“Everyone in my generation grew up watching Sting,” Sky began on the podcast, discussing his match including the WCW legend. “I had a buddy of mine text me, he actually works for the other company (WWE), and he’s like, ‘Bro, Sting was my favorite wrestler growing up, don’t hurt him.’”

“I just laughed about that” Scorpio Sky continued, referring to the talk surrounding the previously retired Sting. “And you know, Sting was one of my favorite wrestlers growing up too. He can still go he still has that magic, when he all he has to do is walk out and there’s just something special about him.”

Scorpio Sky on Sting

Sting of course had to retire originally following a match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions 2015. The Icon took two Bucklebomb moves that would essentially end his career, until he was confirmed as an AEW star back in December 2020.

“He has that IT factor. And he brings a lot to the table still even this late in his career” Sky noted, praising The Icon. “Again, I’m honored to be a part of it, and I think it’s gonna be a great match.”

“I have no hesitations about it” Sky revealed, talking about the match. “I think he is a professional. He’s an intelligent person and he wouldn’t be stepping into the ring if he wasn’t ready.”

“If he wasn’t medically cleared, emotionally cleared, mentally ready, I think he wouldn’t put himself in that position” Sky concluded.

Scorpio Sky Opens Up About The Break Up Of SCU

This week’s episode of Dynamite saw the end of SCU with Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian’s break up and the third member of the group Scorpio Sky has now broken his silence on the development.

The former ROH star talked about the breakup of the tag team in the latest episode of his Wrestling with the Week podcast and shared his thoughts.

Sky admitted that it’s crazy to think that the team that had been together for so long is done for good and thanked his partners for helping him with his career:

“It’s a little bit crazy for me to think that they’re done, it’s over. This tag team that has been together for 10 or 15 years is done for good. The Addiction’s gone, SCU is gone. Bad Influence is gone.

I just wanna thank those two guys for all the help they’ve given me in my career,” said Scorpio Sky, “helping take me to the next level, and hey, ‘Worst Town’ no more. Sad days, man.”

The AEW star also revealed why he didn’t get involved in the match in any manner. He explained that all four of the participants were his friends and he wanted to let them figure it out.

For those who don’t know, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian lost a tag team championship match to the Young Bucks on this week’s episode of Dynamite, forcing the duo to disband after more than a decade together.

TNT Championship Match And More Announced For Dynamite

AEW announced a TNT Championship match and more for the upcoming episode of Dynamite during the Evolution PPV on Sunday.

The PPV event saw Scorpio Sky picking up a big win in the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match. The win earned him a shot at Darby Allin’s title.

The company then confirmed the date for the match between these two and they announced that Sky will be getting his shot at the TNT title on their weekly show this Wednesday.

The event also saw The Young Bucks defeating Chris Jericho and MJF and retaining their AEW World Tag Team Championships.

After this defeat, Jericho announced that an Inner Circle War Council will be taking place this Wednesday and he teased some changes in his faction to make the group stronger.

Apart from this, a singles match between Matt Jackson and Rey Fenix and a 6 women tag match was also announced for the episode. Below is the updated match card for Dynamite after the announcements:

AEW Revolution Results: Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match, Sting, Christian Debuts

Scorpio Sky Injury Update Following Torn Meniscus

Scorpio Sky is scheduled to take part in the upcoming ladder match at AEW Revolution. He hasn’t wrestled since January 7th, when he defeated Nick Comoroto on an episode of Dark.

As it turns out, Sky has been out of action with a torn meniscus. The match at Revolution will mark his return to the ring after 2-months on the shelf dealing with it.

Sky spoke about returning at the PPV recently on his Wrestling with the Week podcast.

“First match back coming off a torn meniscus,” Sky said. “I like to dive into the deep water and see if I can swim without getting wet. People like to think of things today as a TV business and the TV matches are most important. As an old-school guy, pay-per-view is where it’s at and I’m excited to be back on pay-per-view in a marquee match.”

Scorpio Sky knows this is a big opportunity to catapult himself right back into the top of AEW’s rankings. “It’s a huge opportunity,” he said. “You can’t turn down a match like this. If I had to cut my leg off and crawl into the ring, I would do it. Anytime you’re attached to the name Cody Rhodes, it’s big.”

AEW Revolution takes place Sunday, March 7th and airs live on pay-per-view.

Scorpio Sky has been pulled from a scheduled match.

On Wednesday evening, AEW announced via Twitter that Sky had been exposed to someone with the illness and as a result postponed his scheduled singles match against Shawn Spears from this week’s AEW Dynamite episode on TNT.

AEW sent out the following statement about the situation in this tweet:

“Through contact tracing, AEW learned @ScorpioSky was exposed to someone with COVID-19 within the last 14 days. An initial test was negative, but AEW has decided to postpone tonight’s scheduled match.”

AEW later announced a new match to take place of this planned contest that was nixed. Private Party vs. The Young Bucks in a tag team match was booked.

Scorpio Sky Calls Out CM Punk For Ducking All In

Over All In weekend, former WWE star CM Punk held an autograph signing at the One Hour Tees store in Chicago.

There was a ton of speculation going around suggesting Punk could make an appearance on the pay-per-view (PPV). As we all know, Punk never appeared on the program and it left a lot of fans disappointed.

Today (Fri. September 7, 2018) All In star and independent wrestler Scorpio Sky took a shot at Punk on Twitter. Sky partnered with Frankie Kazarian to take on The Briscoe Brothers on the All In: Zero Hour preshow.

Sky said Punk missed the one show that could’ve reinstated his love for professional wrestling. He said he knows he is somewhat scarred from his experience with WWE, but this is a “different world” now:

“Hey you missed a show that would have completely reinstated your love of pro wrestling over the weekend.

“You may hate it now because of your former employer but this is a different world. Where you at?”

WWE No Longer Working With California Independent Wrestler Who Wrote Anti-Gay Messages On Twitter

According to OutSports.com, WWE are distancing themselves from South California-based independent wrestler Scorpio Sky after the ten-year grappling veteran posted anti-gay messages on his Twitter account.

Sky, who appeared as “Harold” in one of Daniel Bryan and Kane’s anger management classes in August, wrote the word “faggot” on Twitter and attacked people who didn’t like it.

A wrestling fan who argued with Sky via Twitter over his use of the anti-gay slur contacted WWE about the wrestler’s language. WWE Fan Services responded: “WWE strongly believes that everyone should be treated with respect and this principle is the foundation of our anti-bullying initiative, “Be a STAR”. Mr. Andrews no longer works for WWE and we have no plans to work with him in the future.”

Sky also works with Lucha VaVOOM, and the company is not happy with his anti-gay tweets. The company stated to OutSports.com, “Please rest assured that Lucha VaVOOM does not condone this language, and further, it’s important to us specify that we do not employ the character “Scorpio Sky.” The wrestler that plays “Scorpio Sky” appears sometimes, but not under that moniker, and he does not have access to speak for Lucha VaVOOM or any of his Lucha VaVOOM characters. However, we have emailed him our grievances and await his response.”

One month prior to appearing for WWE, Sky competed in TNA Wrestling’s X Division Championship Tournament as Mason Andrews.

WWE will air more anger management skits next week on RAW (likely done in the same format as this week, with one airing per hour). The skits were all filmed before SummerSlam.
