*DDP. Few athletes have a tougher life after sports than professional wrestlers. The fast lifestyle that accompanies year-round entertaining across the country can take its toll on bodies and minds, resulting in a disproportionate amount of former wrestlers becoming drug dependent and struggling with mental-health issues. In stark contrast to the sport’s high-flying, musclebound theatrics, yoga is now helping rehabilitate some stars of yesteryear. Diamond Dallas Page, famous for his success in the WCW and WWF, created DDP Yoga after finding that yoga helped ease not only his physical ailments but also his depression, and has striven to help others from his era, most notably Scott “Razor Ramon” Hall and Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Correspondent Frank Deford sits down with the wrestlers to discuss how yoga has helped their lives in a way they never thought possible.

Producer: Maggie Burbank.

Scott Hall Talks About Living With DDP, McMahon vs. Bischoff, WWE Talent He Likes

Wrestling legend Scott Hall recently spoke with Wrestling101. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

How DDP Yoga & The Accountability Crib Have Saved His Life:

“I’m staying at the ‘Accountability Crib’ with Dallas in Atlanta, and my son Cody who is 21-years old, Dallas invited him to come and join us here, and he’s just breaking into the wrestling business so that has been great. I’ve known Dallas for a long time, over 20 years, and it’s been great what he’s done for me.

Dallas is a truly unique individual, he legitimately and sincerely cares about other people. He really enjoys helping other people and here at the crib four or five times a week people will come in, we’ll move the furniture out of the way in the living room, spread the yoga mats out and Dally either personally leads a group of people in a workout or they throw one of the DVD’s up on the TV and they workout to one of Dally’s DDP Yoga videos.

He’s not charging anybody anything, he’s not motivated by money, he genuinely gets high, he gets this fix off helping people. It’s really great to be around this positive environment, because for some reason I was just secluding myself and staying in dark places. Now I feel as though I’ve ventured out into the light and working on my tan. I never had any problems professionally, it was personal life that was a problem for me, professionally I couldn’t have scripted a better life.”

Comparing Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff as Bosses:

“It’s no secret that Vince McMahon comes from a long line of wrestling promoters, his grandfather was a promoter, his father was a promoter and Vince is a promoter, his children are involved in the business, his son in law Triple H is basically running the day-to-day operations of the WWE now and I think he deserves to.

The way I’ll express it is Vince is like your boss, Eric Bischoff is younger, he’s a different kind of cat and he was really hungry at the time when we met him because WCW had not been successful before. He took a gamble laid down some big money and got us in and it worked, then he was able to have more leverage, make more decisions and grow his empire, it was kind of mismanaged in the long run but at the time it was great.

To me Eric is like a guy, he’s like a dude, where as Vince is the boss. I’ve had many ‘f**k you’ conversations with Eric, he was just like one of the guys he wasn’t like a boss.”

His Time Working For TNA:

“I was on the very first TNA PPV ever, which was from Birmingham, Alabama and at that time Jeff Jarretts dad Jerry Jarrett was the owner and the boss and I have known Jerry from early on in my wrestling career and I had worked for his wrestling promotion in Tennessee, I have a lot of respect for Jerry Jarrett, he is a really smart guy and I like being around smart people. I jumped at the chance to be near Jerry Jarrett and it was real fun, I only signed a short term contract, something like three shows.

The company then changed hands and I only went back a few times after that to do some stuff with Kev and Sean Waltman. I know Dixie carter who runs TNA now is a wonderful lady and she is passionate about wrestling and I hear that Hulk and Eric have more control over the company now which I think is a good thing because those two guys are proven winners.”

Current Wrestlers That Stand Out To Him:

“As far a current stars go, I like this kid Fandango, I think he is funny, I think he is a great athlete and I wish him nothing but success. I like the Prime Time Players, particularly Titus O’Neil, the guy is a stud, a great athlete and I expect big things out of him. I’m a Ryback fan, he has the potential to be a huge star, no disrespect to him but at the moment he is a little bit inexperienced, a little bit green is the term we use in the industry.

In my opinion the glare of the spotlight can either make things blossom or that bright light can wilt things, you either blossom or you shrivel up and you die.

I’ve only started watching wrestling again in the last couple of months but I think the business is in good hands, there are some great young hungry guys out there who are going to carry the business forward into the next decade. I know with Triple H running the company he’s a smart guy and he loves the wrestling business, so I think the WWE is in good hands.”

Batista’s Future With WWE, Accountability Crib Cooking Show, DDP Video

– The latest on former WWE Superstar Batista’s future with the company is there are no plans for him to return any time soon. Earlier this week, Batista (via Twitter) shot down rumors that he’s in talks with Triple H about an upcoming return. A source close to him says that acting is by far his top priority right now and he will not put any movie projects on hold to do another WWE run.

That said, he is open to the idea of returning to WWE if it works with his schedule – and the earliest he could be back is WrestleMania XXX season.

– Scott Hall teased on Twitter this week, “Crib Cooking TV coming soon.” He’s been tweeting pictures of himself, Jake Roberts and other people cooking in their Accountability Crib, along with photographers filming the cooking.

– WWE’s 7/13 live event from Trenton, New Jersey drew 5,500 and a gate of $195,000. The July 11th NXT TV tapings from Winter Park, Florida had a full house with 400 fans, which was likely helped by the Grand Opening of WWE’s new Performance Center.

Jim Ross Blog: Ziggler’s Concussion Serious, Roberts & Hall, NXT Stars On The Road

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com.

  • As always, you can buy JR’s delicious line of BBQ products at WWEShop.com.

Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Dolph Ziggler’s Concussion:

WWE World Champion Dolph Ziggler has a serious concussion which may be a redundant statement because what concussion isn’t serious? There’s no timeline as to Ziggler’s return as WWE will be particularly cautious in dealing with any injury but especially a head injury.

WWE’s New Performance Center:

The new, WWE Performance Center will always have a full time trainer on hand, ready access to medical personnel and a full time Strength and Conditioning coach who will help the athletes get stronger and more fit as that will help prevent some injuries. New talents coming to WWE go through a through, extensive process including through medical evaluation before they are allowed to report to work.

Bray Wyatt & Corey Graves:

@WWEBrayWyatt and @WWEGraves will be on the next WWE, live event tout this weekend as the NXT representatives get the opportunity to gain more experience with the main roster. Both men are keepers and Wyatt especially has some special traits that one cannot teach. He’s a near 300 pounder who has the valued and rare, second gear and has a natural gift of gab much like his grandfather, the legendary Blackjack Mulligan, WWE HOFer.

Jake Roberts & Scott Hall:

@JakeSnakeDDT is earning remarkable success in his battle to gain sobriety and change his life. It will be a daily battle until the day that he dies that I pray he will endure and succeed and the same for @ScottHallNWO. Even though I truly believe that both men can add value to ANY creative process and have the skills to help many young talents, the focus of them regaining their health has to remain their top priority which it seems to be.

Scott Hall Interview – Being A Top Star In WWE Today, nWo “Third Man” Options, Getting Sober

Scott Hall joined Inside The Ropes this past Thursday to talk about getting sober and his career in professional wrestling. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

About being a top guy in the WWE today and his son Cody going there:

“I don’t get to watch a lot of WWE, but through this internet thing, Some people comment about a guy becoming the World Champ or the US champ and a couple of weeks later he’s down the card in the opening match. I think that kills the image of being a top guy. But I guess the promoters, the guys in the WWE calling the shots are seeing it like ‘We’re giving you a chance and if you don’t produce, you don’t produce and back down you go’ I’ve talked to Cody about it a lot and he’s in no hurry to go there. He’d rather be seasoned and polished before he makes a move like that.”

On what Scott and Kevin knew the night of the Bash at the Beach 96:

“We had no idea who it was going to be. The whole third guy thing came up by accident. I remember Kev and I called Bret and I spoke to him, Kev spoke to him and we told him it was really fun working at WCW. It was really laid back, guaranteed money, it was easy. We were so used to being in a shark tank in New York. Coming to Atlanta was like being in a country club. It was really tame in the locker room in WCW compared to New York. We told Bret he should come down. Bischoff was interested, he was offering him a pretty sweet deal but Bret wasn’t interested. We wanted it to be Hulk, but Hulk had creative control in his contract so he didn’t have to do anything he didn’t want to do. We went to the ring, we hadn’t even met Hulk yet, I met him briefly at WrestleMania 9 but I didn’t know Hulk, we actually went to the ring in Daytona and Hogan wasn’t even there yet. He was on a jet, flying cross country from shooting a movie. Bischoff wanted it to be Hulk but before we went out, Bischoff told us “If Hulk doesn’t show, I’m gonna send out Sting.”

How he became sober, with the assistance of Diamond Dallas Page:

“I didn’t have any purpose in my life. My goal had been to be a top star in wrestling and I did that. Then I thought the natural progression would be me working in the office but it didn’t happen. I had a little heart episode about 7 weeks ago, I ended up in the hospital in intensive care for a week. The doctor commented ‘you’re a freak, you’re a genetic freak, your heart is normal again’ While I was there, there was this kid who brought me my food and he was a big wrestling fan, and the kid kept coming back and one time he whipped out his iPhone and he had the before and after pics of Jake The Snake. I’d heard things but never seen the pictures. I’d talked to Jake and I knew good things were happening and Dallas was at the root of it and I thought, Do I go to rehab again? Or do I try something else? Instead of treading water in rehab, I don’t know what triggered it and to be honest i don’t question it. I’m moving in the right direction finally, for the first time in so long. I’m 65 days now without any alcohol or drug. I’ve had longer times, but I’ve always been in a facility. I have no cravings and I feel great.”
