Scott Hall Interview: Hogan-Gawker, Nakamura, His Son Cody & More (Video)

WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall spoke with Title Match Wrestling during WrestleMania 32 week about AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, Shinsuke Nakamura, Undertaker, Shane McMahon, Jim Cornette, the Bullet Club, the Hulk Hogan vs Gawker lawsuit, injuries in wrestling, the Young Bucks, NJPW, Bruiser Brody, NXT, TNA and more.

– He thought The Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon should have gone last at WrestleMania.

– He has a WWE DVD coming out in July. WWE came to him and asked him for input, but he told them he trusts them to handle it properly. This is unlike Bret Hart, who went to Stamford and was very hands-on with his DVD. Hall joked that the most important thing is that his royalty checks go to the right address.

– Regarding his son Cody in NJPW, he’s happy Cody is working in front of sold out arenas in Japan instead of working the indy scene in the US working in front of 50 people. Hall thanked the Young Bucks for taking Cody under their wing.

– Hall put over Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson and AJ Styles. He’s really happy that his son Cody has been working around guys like the Young Bucks and AJ Styles who are at the top of their games but don’t drink or do drugs.

– He put over the Performance Center and the great things they are doing there. He loves working with the young guys.

– He’s heard great things about Nakamura. He loves Nakamura and predicts big things for him in WWE. Zayn can go too.

– When asked about Hulk Hogan’s legal battle with Gawker, Hall says he reached out to Hulk during the trail and gave him some words of encouragement. The public loves Hogan and they love a comeback.

Titus O’Neil’s Suspension Ending, Scott Hall Endorses Seth Rollins & More

Scott Hall Tweets Photo Of Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows Backstage At Raw

Scott Hall tweeted this photo late last night:

https://twitter.com/SCOTTHALLNWO/status/717258622586060801

Hall is one of the former NWO members who endorsed the “NWO tribute band” aspects of the Bullet Club’s act in New Japan Pro Wrestling, with his son Cody even joining the group before long. As for Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, it was somewhat surprising that they didn’t make their debut on Raw last night, especially with WWE seemingly going all in with bolstering the main roster’s tag team division. On the other hand…maybe it shouldn’t have been. The belief is that they’ll be joined by Finn Balor to reform the Bullet Club as the Balor Club, but Balor is still:

  1. A babyface.
  2. NXT Champion.

So it remains to be seen when and how they’ll debut, but they’re clearly signed at this point. Gallows and Anderson held the IWGP [Heavyweight] Tag Team Championship on several occasions in NJPW and finished up with the promotion several weeks ago.

Titus O’Neil & Scott Hall React To “Bring Back Titus” Sign At RAW

O’Neil, who is currently suspended from WWE for doing something unscripted on RAW, was joined by Scott Hall in commenting on the sign on Twitter.

Titus has stated he plans on leaving WWE when his current contract expires.

WWE 2K16 Apparently Getting The Tokyo Dome In Next DLC Pack

At a couple different points tonight, the official WWE Games Twitter account tweeted these animated GIFs to hype Tuesday’s release of the Hall of Fame downloadable content pack for WWE 2K16, which is out this Tuesday:

It was already known that 1991 versions of Ric Flair and Tatsumi Fujinami plus a relevant match replay mode were in the Hall of Fame pack, but they had two matches that year. It seemed like it made more sense for 2K to base it off their match from Superbrawl in St. Petersburg, Florida, but from the above footage, it looks like they didn’t. Instead, 2K picked the OTHER Flair-Fujinami match, from the NJPW Tokyo Dome show that year, which is known as both WCW Japan Supershow and NJPW Starrcade ’91 In The Tokyo Dome. So that means that the arena that comes in the pack is an ersatz Tokyo Dome, faithfully recreated by 2K Sports. They can’t call it that (and I don’t believe WWE games ever name real venues), but 2K does a great job with the presentation of the arenas and this should be no exception.

Here’s the full lineup for the DLC pack, which, if this is any indication, should also include at least two more WCW arenas and some early ’90s WWF arenas along with period appropriate versions of the wrestlers:

  • “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts
  • Rikishi vs. The Rock
  • Alundra Blayze vs. Paige
  • Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Dustin Rhodes
  • Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Ric Flair
  • The Bushwhackers (Butch Miller and Luke Williams) vs. The Natural Disasters (Typhoon and Earthquake)
  • The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) vs. Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray)

Scott Hall On Reigns Being WWE Champion, His Next Goal

WWE Hall Of Famer Scott Hall recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of SI.com about the next goal in his career, Sting losing in his debut and potentially only WrestleMania match against Triple H, Roman Reigns being the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and more. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On the next goal in his career:

“Career-wise, I’d love to be working with the young guys at NXT. But I’m not going to sweat that–if it’s meant to happen, it’s meant to happen. I’ve been invited to go down there twice, but I wouldn’t mind a full time gig there.”

On Roman Reigns winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title:

“He’s getting a big push, but I just wish his work supported it. I don’t know, but I saw him commit to it and really go old-school and earn it in the fans’ eyes. The building that he won the Rumble in last year in Philly was the same building where he won the title and was cheered. In a year’s time, that’s pretty good.”

Scott Hall Talks Learning From Shawn Michaels, Undertaker’s “Disposable Razor” Comment, More

WWE Hall Of Famer Scott Hall recently appeared as a guest on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast and spoke about a number of topics from his legendary career. Below are some of the highlights.

On Shawn Michaels teaching him how to put a match together:

“Shawn was calling matches when he was doing jobs for guys in Texas. Shawn always had a clue. The first time anyone broke down to me the way a match should take place was Shawn Michaels on a trip from, like, Kansas City to Des Moines [Iowa]. We were just sitting in a car together talking and he just starts laying it out to me. He was always great. Even when he started, he was great, so he smartened me up and that’s why I’ve been invited to return to the NXT, to the [WWE] Performance Center to work with the young guys.”

On WCW giving him a raise when they thought he was returning to WWE, only to find out it was “Fake Razor” and “Fake Diesel” promotion:

“I’m barely paying attention to what’s happening on [WCW Monday] Nitro, so I’m not watching [WWE Monday Night] RAW at all. But Eric Bischoff called Kev and I in and we got a raise and a contract extension because he believed it. And then after that, he went, ‘I thought you guys didn’t care about the lawsuit and you were just going to go back there!'”

On Undertaker’s “disposable razor” joke in reference to the fake Razor Ramon:

“I heard the story one time, they were sitting around the [WWE] locker room and somebody’s trying to shave and they go, ‘hey, who [has] got a disposable razor?’ And they said Taker went, ‘there’s one right there.'”

On his thoughts on WWE bringing in a fake Razor Ramon after he went to WCW:

“I felt cool. It made me feel like Elvis [Presley]! I had an impersonator! The guy was doing my schtick! He was doing everything! Like, Kane did Diesel, but it’s just similar body types, but I heard they auditioned guys for the Razor role and I felt so flattered. I even contacted the guy [and] offered to sell him my old [ring] gear because I wasn’t using it anymore, but he was, like, too fat. He couldn’t fit into anything.”

On getting heat from Eric Bischoff for putting over Chris Jericho in WCW:

“The storyline then was we were going to bring Larry Zbyszko into the pay-per-view at Halloween Havoc as a special [guest] referee against Lex Luger and I. And so, I was just supposed to keep hitting Chris with the Razor’s Edge, just keep dropping Jericho on his head until Zbyszko came down. And I said, ‘Chris, but that’s not going to get a reaction.’ I said, ‘think of some way to beat me out of my finish and get with me later,’ so he came up with the idea to kick his feet off the turnbuckle and small package me and I said, ‘don’t tell anybody. I’ll take all the heat.’ So when I came back through the curtain [after the match], Arn Anderson’s there at the Gorilla position just shaking his head, going, ‘you’re too much’. So now I’m walking back towards the locker room and I pass Eric Bischoff and he looks at me and he goes, ‘didn’t I tell you to go over?’ and I’m going, ‘you’re telling me you didn’t like my segment?’ and he’s going, ‘no, no, but weren’t you supposed to win?’ and I said, ‘does it really matter?’ and he just throws his hands up in the air.”

Video: Sean Waltman On Epic Botch He Had With Scott Hall During Early RAW Days

https://youtu.be/A-5xhhGbwAs

Former WWE Superstar Sean Waltman recently spoke to WrestleTalk TV about a dangerous spot he tried a few times during his days as the 1-2-3 Kid character earlier in his WWE run.

Waltman spoke about diving head-first from the top rope to the floor during a match with Razor Ramon, noting that he fell and ended up landing on his head. Later, however, he would recreate the move successfully during a match with Bret Hart.

“The first time I tried that in WWE was in my rematch with Scott [Hall] where I slipped off the top turnbuckle and ate the concrete. Another time if I didn’t get up and pull something out of my ass, I’d have been screwed. Scott would have had to beat me and I would have been done.”

Waltman said that the spot worried him, primarily because he had been given a rematch with Razor Ramon following the initial upset. For the second time around, he had been booked in a $10,000 challenge rematch and had to meet time cues in the main event slot of RAW.

“It was the last thing and we were going off the air. I had to get that money and get out of there before we went off the air, or we would have been screwed. You can go back and watch my head that hits the concrete if that’s the kind of thing that gives you giggles.”

Scott Hall Talks About The State Of The Business, Wanting His Own WWE Network Show

WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall recently appeared on Another Wrestling Podcast to discuss the state of the wrestling industry, wanting his own show on the WWE Network and more. Here are some highlight of what the Bad Guy said about:

If Wrestling Could Be As Popular as the Late 1990’s:

“The economy was different then, it was stronger. I think there were less entertainment options. There’s so many things now that people can view. There’s not just cable TV, there’s online. I think that cuts into it,” Hall said.

“Overall I think wrestling companies will get bigger. The WWE machine is a lot stronger than it was when I was there. When you go to TV, it’s unbelievable the production that’s going on. Then they have their Network cameras there filming guys filming guys.”

Wanting His Own Show On The WWE Network:

“They’re stocking that Network full of shows,” Hall said. “I want to do a travel show. I’m working on a cooking show, I’m going to do some of it at Dallas Page’s performance center. I’m going to do a cooking show called Dude Food, where I show young guys how to eat good and clean, cheap.”

Scott Hall Tells Behind-The-Scenes Stories Involving Ultimate Warrior, Lack Of Title Shots

WWE Hall Of Famer Scott Hall recently spoke with the folks at Title Match Wrestling about why he didn’t receive as many world title shots as others did, as well as the back-story behind an incident involving Ultimate Warrior during his WWE run.

“I was doing whatever was asked of me,” said Hall of not being put in many world title matches. “I looked at it as being a team player, whatever the team needed me to do on pay-per-view. Whether it was being on first or being on last.

Hall was also asked about some major reshuffling that took place prior to WWE Survivor Series 1992, as significant roster changes prevented the originally scheduled line-up from taking place.

“It was supposed to be Flair and I against Warrior and Savage. Warrior had a history of holding Vince up for money before pay-per-views to get his guarantees, and Vince called his bluff. They had to substitute for Warrior, so they brought Mr. Perfect in,” Hall said.

“I was told prior to the match I was going to break Randy’s leg and retire him. But when you have a substitute, you have to feature the substitute, so I think I got PerfectPlex’d and Flair got PerfectPlex’d.”

Jim Ross Talks To Scott Hall About His Past Troubles, Cleaning Up & More

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently spoke with Scott Hall for a new FOX Sports article. Below are some of the highlights of the interview.

On Jake Roberts and Diamond Dallas Page offering to help him: “What did I have to lose? I was drinking myself to death. I don’t even know why I answered the phone when Dally and Jake called because I wasn’t answering any calls or talking to anyone. I guess it was fate. Jake was one of my professional heroes and Dally was always a great friend. It was just the two of them and me in Page’s home.”

On the lifestyle he was living: “I always wanted to be a main eventer in pro wrestling. I lived my dream but the excess of the ’80s and the huge money of the ’90s became a great temptation for many of us. After working in a main event, on the advice of one of my peers, I took my downers, Xanax was my drug of choice, before I stopped sweating and got into the showers. Then I’d have a few beers on the drive to the hotel and then hit the rack to make that 6 a.m. flight. Some nights we wouldn’t go to bed at all and hit the hotel bar and then hit a diner, eat and then get to the airport to sleep on the plane.”

On if he blames the business for his troubles: “Absolutely, not. Never. I just blame myself. If I want to know who the culprit is I simply look in the mirror. All my friends that died much too early have themselves to blame and no one else.”

On his legacy: “I love the wrestling business, but my Mom never named me Razor. That I did with the blessing of Vince McMahon but, at the end of the day, the wrestling business was always essentially about the money and the miles. My most important legacy is being a good father to my two children.”

“My life is like driving down a road. I occasionally glance in the rearview mirror but I’m not focused on the past or looking back anymore. That’s why the windshield is bigger than the review view mirror. I prefer to look ahead, make my short term goals, and focus on today. I’m where I’m supposed to be but not where I want to be. Thank God I’m not where I used to be. I’m OK and I’m on my way one day at a time. Help awaits everyone if they truly want it.”
