After an ongoing struggle with substance abuse issues Shannon Moore was close to ending his life, but he credits WWE and one particular Hall of Famer for saving his.
A new article by the Tampa Bay Times focuses on Moore’s inspiring life journey so far and how he’s been able to help so many others after being six years sober.
Moore said that his primary drug abuse came from using painkillers initially, but branched out even further to other drugs, something that he was introduced early in his career. He said that his real problems came back in 2012 once he took a leave from wrestling after a TNA run. He had a lot of time and a lot of money on his hands.
“That was the worst thing I ever did,” he said. “I was just sitting at home. I had time. I had money. And what do you do? You just party. I think that’s the point where physical addiction really set in.”
Speaking on the Road Dogg Brian James’ podcast earlier this year, Moore spoke about how he was on the verge of ending his life and potentially ending his ex-wife’s until he gave James a call.
“I said, ‘Hey, dude, you’re probably going to hear about me on the news. Something bad is going to happen,’” Moore said. “He reached back out, and the rest is history.”
James is also over a decade sober and he was someone that Moore kept having on his mind during the darkest time of his life. Now Moore works as a client relations manager at Riverside Recovery in Tampa. He still wrestles, but doesn’t plan on going back to it full-time.
“There have been plenty of offers,” Moore said. “But Riverside has an amazing team. I believe in what we are doing. I’ve got a taste of being in service. My whole thing now is just trying to do my part and hopefully use my platform and use my career to hopefully help somebody.”
Evan Karagias was arrested on charges of simple assault and injury to personal property, but posted $25,000 bound.
Karagias, a North Carolina resident from Gastonia, now has a court date set for those charges on January 2, 2024, according to PWInsider.
The former WCW talent is best known for being the main focus of the heel “boy band” faction, 3 Count. While a member of the group, Karagias became the WCW Cruiserweight Champion alongside Shane Helms and Shannon Moore.
Karagias last wrestled in 2010, but unlike his 3 Count partners, never had a match with WWE.
The Pro Wrestling Trajectory Of WCW’s 3 Count
Even though Karagias was the top of the 3 Count trio in WCW, he arguably had the least notable career in the squared circle. Both Shane Helms and Shannon Moore had runs with WWE and also happen to be childhood friends of Matt and Jeff Hardy.
Helms really caught fire with his Hurricane Helms persona, becoming a multi-time Crusierweight Champion, both in WCW and WWE. Helms now works as a producer behind the scenes for WWE.
To this day, Shannon Moore remains an active talent in pro wrestling, but is more selective with his appearances. Moore’s pro wrestling road got rocky as much like his Hardy Boy brothers, battled substance abuse issues in the past. Now completely sober, Moore serves as a recovery counselor for celebrities, notably former athletes. He most recently appeared on an episode of Road Dogg’s podcast, “Oh … You Didn’t Know?”
Latest developments indicate that former WCW Hardcore
Champion and TNA star Shannon Moore could be returning to WWE soon.
The former WWE star was booked for shows of indie wrestling promotion Canadian Wrestling Elite or CWE this weekend. However, he has now been pulled from the company’s shows from January 24 to January 26.
What’s interesting to note here is that while announcing the news of this change on their official Facebook page, the promotion mentioned that he is being pulled due to “an unexpected WWE obligation.”
Another post on the page mentions a similar thing and it
notes that Moore has a “contractual obligation to WWE that will now
require his presence” this week.
Shannon Moore made his wrestling debut in April 1995 and he
first made his name in the wrestling world with his tenure in WCW from 1999 to
2001.
After the closing of the company, Shannon joined WWE where
he stayed till 2005. He returned to the promotion for another run from 2006 to 2008.
Since his departure, he has also worked for companies like TNA, AWA and more.
He worked as a guest coach in WWE Performance center in November last year and the belief is that he could be returning to the company as a producer or a coach.
Longtime WWE seamstress Julie Youngberg, who is the wife of Shannon Moore, has been involved in a spat with Reby Sky — the wife of Matt Hardy — on the internet recently. Youngberg had been hacked recently, and accused Hardy and Sky of being responsible.
She wrote the following on Facebook:
“So great news. The police came over the other day who are working on my case of the person/people who are hacking me, stalking me, making up horrible lies, slander, etc and are trying to break up the beautiful marriage Shannon and I have. Funny enough the cops traced the emails back to a town none other than Cameron NC!!! Hmmm…lol, Just a little more time before they crack the false name the acct was opened under but they are working on it. Let’s just say what comes around goes around and sorry assholes Shannon and I love each other way too much to let psychopaths like you with nothing better to do with your lives or time than to try and ruin ours. Your pathetic and sad excuses for human beings. If I were you right now I’d be extremely nervous for the outcome.”
The spat then got personal when Youngberg insinuated that Hardy’s newborn baby is not actually Matt’s.
Finally, Youngberg posted the following message on Saturday night regarding her comments benig racist:
“For all u people who think I said something racist lol….what I said was “my hackers wife”….according to our police investigation of being harassed 4 the passed 6 years, those emails have been now discovered to have come from Caneron NC….so unless u are the hackers wife there’s no reason to have an issue.”
Former WWE, WCW and TNA star Shannon More has announced his retirement.
He wrote on Twitter:
“For u asking I’m pretty much done in the ring. Just times have changed and I don’t want to be that guy trying to stay on Indy’s I’ve lived it and I would rather get out and be an agent or work with talent. Thanks WCW,WWE,and TNA!!!

-Former TNA Impact Wrestling star Shannon Moore recently posted a rant on Twitter regarding TNA’s future following several recent roster cuts, and the fact that so many established stars are sitting home right now, as opposed to being utilized by a top wrestling promotion.
Below is Moore’s rant from Twitter (multiple tweets combined):
People ask me my thoughts on TNA. I don’t know what the game plan is but would hate to see a company come to a cross roads. However I feel it’s time to capitalize on the house hold names that are sitting home right now. Carlito, Morrison, Helms, Masters, etc. These guys are hard workers that have name value that people still want to see. Sometimes the mixture of home grown and household names is a good thing. Just my opinion but so much talent that have a following should be put to use by someone. It’s a waste and this day and age it’s hard to build new talent unless you have the following already paying attention to your product!! That’s my thoughts but its not my answer at the end of the day that will help. Hopefully the game plan will pan out.
-TNA Impact Wrestling star Kurt Angle is the latest to take to Twitter to address the “#August1Warning” mystery-man angle. Angle tweeted the following:
ImpactWrestling Thursday Night Spike TV. 9 pm est. who is Aug 1st Warning? Tune In to See Who. I’m Curious!!
– Devin Cutting sent in word that former TNA tag team Ink Inc. (Shannon Moore and Jesse Neal) will be reuniting for the Operation Save Foundation promotion on January 19th at the National Guard Armory in Elizabethtown, N.C.
– TNA will be taping 2 “specialty programming” shows on January 12th during TNA Genesis weekend in Orlando, Florida. According to the Genesis VIP Weekend info on the official TNA website, the shows will take place at the Impact Zone at 12pm and 6pm that day and will air several weeks later to fill the vacancy created by the company eliminating its February pay-per-view.
Bob Ryder, TNA’s Director of Talent Bookings and Travel, tweeted the following details over the weekend:
Not much talk about it online yet, but TNA is taping original specialty programming on Jan 12, the day before Genesis. More details soon.

– ImpactWrestling.com has announced that tonight’s scheduled TNA Women’s Knockout Championship Match between Miss Tessmacher and Gail Kim has been rescheduled for next week’s episode of Impact Wrestling.
The reason for this is: “Gail Kim lodged a protest through her lawyer and upon further review of the contract, a clause was found preventing the title match from happening tonight! Gail’s lawyer had a clause hidden in the contract that required the former champion 8 days notice of her rematch.”
Brooke Hogan has announced a replacement match for tonight—TNA Women’s Knockout Champion Miss Tessmacher will team up with Tara to face Gail Kim and Madison Rayne.
– Angelina Love and Shannon Moore, who both stated on Twitter this week that they were granted their contract releases from TNA Wrestling, have been removed from the ImpactWrestling.com roster page.
– Miss Tessmacher is now scheduled to appear with Austin Aries, Kurt Angle and Velvet Sky at Direct Auto Insurance 2110 Greenridge Rd. Charleston, South Carolina on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Call 843-553-9880 for more information.
Angelina Love is not the only talent to part ways with TNA Wrestling this week as Shannon Moore has as well. The X Division wrestler announced Monday via Twitter that he has been granted his release from the organization.
“Just want to let you all know I asked for my release from TNA and they granted me my release. Wanted you all to hear it from me. Thanks all,” he wrote.
Moore stated last month that he would not be returning to the organization due to his desire to spend time with his family and focus on outside endeavors.
Following news Sunday night that Love had been granted her release from TNA Wrestling, the record-setting five-time TNA Women’s Knockout Champion was a top trending topic throughout most of Monday.
Regarding this, she wrote, “Sooo flattered that I’ve been trending Worldwide for an entire day now thanks to the incredible support of my wonderful fans! Thank you loves!!!”
Despite their respective announcements, both Love and Moore remain listed as members of the TNA roster on ImpactWrestling.com.
Monday’s Raw SuperShow saw “Sycho” Sid Vicious make his much anticipated return to WWE after a fifteen year hiatus as he dismantled Heath Slater. Though many people were happy to see the “Master and Ruler of the World” resurface on national television, Reby Sky was not among them. The female grappler feels he doesn’t deserve the spotlight after no-showing multiple independent events in the past year.
“That piece of sh*t Sid no-shows almost EVERY show in the last yr but prances onto Raw. Please tell us again how much u LOVE “the business,” she wrote on Twitter after seeing him appear on television. “Guess he managed not to “lose his wallet” this time. Sad thing is, now that he got 10 more mins of fame he’ll get more bookings to NO-SHOW.”
Sky continued, “F*CK people like that. You f*ck with peoples’ time, money & professional integrity because you’re too much of a douche to keep your word.
“I’m all for hustlin, but BLACKMAILING promotors into giving you more $ after threatening not to show then STILL not showing after they do…
“Makes me sick. .”
WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch took exception to Sky’s statement, remarking on Twitter, “WOW! Just read something about Reby Sky, who is only known for being Matt Hardy’s girlfriend going off about my good friend Sid Vicious…Like she has room to talk? Who is she? NO ONE! And she was completely disrespectful to the locker room at a show I was on with her… OOOHH just WAIT til I see her again..sh*t’s gonna fly!”
She continued, “One thing I’ve always stood by, you always show respect for those who have seniority in this business.. she’s too dumb and ignorant to know that.
“I was raised Old-school by the right people, and she deserves an Old school ass whipping…. she disrespected me and the entire locker room on the show I was on with Matt… I’ll never say I was on a show with HER. Matt and I have been friends for years….I’m surprised she hasn’t learned a little bit.”
Sytch also addressed Sid’s history of no-showing events, writing, “Regardless if he no-shows or not, someone like her has no right to disrespect someone like him! Sid likes to play his softball…everyone knows it.”
Shannon Moore, a friend of Matt Hardy’s, weighed in on the matter as he tweeted to Sytch, “Sid is great. He worked with 3 Count in WCW and worked hard. If you have been in the biz for 3 min your opinion don’t fn count. Thanks Sid!! Why do people that have done nothing in the biz want to trash legends. Karma is a b—h. Shut up if you trying to actually make it! @WWEHOFerSunny You proved your point and made a big impact for the chicks. They have no clue what being a Pro is.”
Vicious also reached out to Sytch to thank her for her support, tweeting, “@WWEHOFerSunny Do not worry about her. Not worth out time. Thank you though. Thank you and I understand. Doesn’t matter what people say though. I loved being on RAW. Bottom line.”
Sky responded to Sytch’s remarks via Facebook, writing, “So the fact that I don’t agree with how someone conducts themselves professionally gives another a right to threaten me ? Everyone has a “Sunny story”, but no one can ever say I’m anything but professional & respectful to everyone I’ve ever worked with / beside … unless they’re mad. YOU MAD ?
“In any case, I believe I owe you a thank you, Sunny, as I was recently offered a movie role that was written for you – but since you were too unreliable – was passed on to me. Perhaps if you weren’t more concerned with doing things that landed you in H*zelden that would have never happened, but I guess reliability isn’t a priority for you. Or Sid.
“It’s a small world, and if you’re that anxious to see me again I’m sure there are plenty out there who would be more than happy to arrange that. If you can manage to show up, that is.”
WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch has called out Reby Sky for blasting “Sycho” Sid Vicious via Twitter. The wrestler/glamour model voiced her displeasure with Sid receiving the spotlight again on Monday’s Raw SuperShow after no-showing multiple independent wrestling events in the past year.
In response to Sky’s remarks, Sytch wrote on Facebook Tuesday evening, “WOW!
Shannon Moore also defended “The Millennium Man’s” work ethic. He wrote Tuesday night on Twitter, “Sid is great. He worked with 3 Count in WCW and worked hard. If you have been in the biz for 3 min your opinion don’t fn count. Thanks Sid!!”
Sky said of Sid Monday night, “That piece of sh*t Sid no-shows almost EVERY show in the last yr but prances onto Raw. Please tell us again how much u LOVE “the business.” Guess he managed not to “lose his wallet” this time. Sad thing is, now that he got 10 more mins of fame he’ll get more bookings to NO-SHOW.”
Shannon Moore announced Friday on Twitter that he will not be returning to TNA Wrestling after stating in March that he would be taking a hiatus from wrestling to spend time with his family and focus on outside endeavors.
“For you asking I will not be back on Impact,” Moore wrote. “Got some injuries to take care of and a project me and (wife Julie Youngberg) are working on. Nothing but good things coming in the future. Even tho i cant be in the ring I got stuff popn away from wrestling. Working on having a Baby is first on my list with (Julie). Very important to us right now.
He continued, “And I’ll be part of wrestling in some way just not in the ring. I’ll be supporting my wife on our clothing line.”
Moore also noted that his tattoo business, Gas Chamber Ink, has made over one million dollars.
— TNA Wrestling’s annual Slammiversary pay-per-view event will be held outside Orlando, Florida on June 10, 2012. Company president Dixie Carter wrote Monday on Twitter, “I am very, VERY excited about what market we will be in for the Slammiversary pay-per-view on 6/10 to celebrate our 10th anniversary!”
— There is talk within TNA Wrestling that some talent will be parting ways with the organization in the near future. No names have been confirmed.
— Shannon Moore stated over the weekend on Twitter that he is taking a hiatus from professional wrestling in order to focus on his tattoo business and spend time with his family. He clarified that he is not retiring.
“I’m not retired just taking a break. Wrestling is fun to me. When it’s not….I walk away.I set myself up to be able to do so for a reason,” Moore wrote.

“Before someone gets it and twist it. I’ve decided to step away from wrestling for awhile,” he wrote. “I’m putting effort into my own business. Thanks for your support in the ring but for now I am chill’n at home opening my second tat shop and enjoying my family.”
He continues, “Or am I working you…. Who know the wrestling secret talk… Lol…. love you guys peace!!!”

— TNA Wrestling has announced an IMPACT Wrestling World Tour date for Saturday, September 3 at the Shenandoan County Fairgrounds in Woodstock, Virginia.
Apparently in response to online reports noting concern over his condition backstage at last week’s TNA Genesis pay-per-view, TNA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy issued the following statement this evening on Twitter:
Bill Behrens, who coordinates independent bookings for several TNA stars including friends of Hardy’s such as Shannon Moore, offered additional insight into the reports on his weekly podcast by stating that organization officials have allowed Hardy to wrestle while impaired. He also said that it’s considered an “open secret” within the company that Hardy still uses drugs.
Jeff isn’t the only Hardy brother upset with the “dirtsheets” as Matt noted the following on Twitter this afternoon regarding his appearance last night on Monday Night Mayhem:
“BTW, The Scumsheets always cover MNM, the show I was on last night. They didn’t today.. Why u ask? Cuz I call them out on their bullsh*t.. The reason why they don’t give me publicity.. Cuz they don’t want my voice 2 be heard-So RT this-“THE DIRTSHEETS FEAR MATT F’N HARDY!” :) RT”
