Shaul Guerrero Recalls Being Scared Of Father Eddie Guerrero As A Child

Eddie Guerrero is remembered as a legend in the wrestling industry but the wrestling veteran had his demons as well. His personal battles affected those who were close to him including his daughter Shaul Guerrero.

The female star who has chosen wrestling as a career too recently had an interview with Chris Van Vliet where she opened up about her experience of growing up as the daughter of the WWE legend.

During the interview, Shaul spoke candidly of her father’s issues with alcohol and drugs. She admitted to being scared of the late star during her childhood and explained that she didn’t really get to know him all that well:

“My dad scared the s–t out of me growing up, It’s no secret that he struggled with alcohol and drugs. I think unfortunately growing up until I was 12 or 13, that was pretty much all I saw. It was a complicated relationship with my dad. I didn’t really get to know him until I was 13, 14, 15. He passed when I was 15.”

Guerrero also recalled her experience on the day of her father’s passing back in 2005. She revealed who gave her the news and explained how she never had anyone truly pass away before that day:

“I was woken up by my dad’s sister Linda and my cousins, they woke us up and I have never had anyone truly pass away until that day. They brought us out into the living room and they told us what happened. I think they told me separately from my sister, because mom wasn’t there. She was completely distraught; it was a terrible day.”

Though later in the interview, Shaul Guerrero also shared some good memories of her father. She mentioned how Eddie used to do random acts of kindness all the time and told some stories of the same.

Eddie Guerrero wrestled for both WCW and WWE. He won numerous accolades in both promotions. Guerrero, unfortunately, passed away on November 13, 2005, due to heart failure, at the young age of 38.

Shaul Guerrero On WWE Saying She Couldn’t Use The Guerrero Name

Shaul Guerrero was recently interviewed by Chris Van Vliet. During the discussion, she mentioned that WWE told her on her first day with the company that she would not be allowed to use the Guerrero name. The daughter of Eddie and Vickie Guerrero was known as Raquel Diaz throughout her time in WWE.

“I remember being told, I’m not going to say by who, that if you suck, we can’t drag your family’s name in the mud. I’m like [shocked expression]. I understood that. Again, it’s like they never said I had to be as good as my dad, but there was always little things like that which are hard to ignore. That was day one.”

Guerrero noted that coming into WWE as the daughter of a legend was difficult.

“When I first went into wrestling, I went into the largest and most prestige company in the world. I am very grateful for that, but that also comes with the biggest amount of pressure. It was so intense, not to mention the Guerrero way, go hard or go home. High expectations are just in the family. I was having panic attacks just going to training sessions.”

Guerrero stepped away from wrestling in 2014 to deal with an eating disorder. She would marry Matt Rehwoldt/Aiden English in 2016. In 2018, she began performing burlesque under the stage name Miss Nyxon. She returned to wrestling in recent years but this February announced she would be taking a hiatus again to deal with mental health issues. During the interview, Guerrero noted that wrestling can be a bit of a trigger for her.

“I want to be honest and say that wrestling has been a huge blessing in my life. It’s always been the thing that has put food on our table, from me being a child to my husband being in WWE, that’s all I’ve known. But with me wrestling, there is so much pressure and so many expectations. I have put so much pressure on myself because I have huge shoes to fill. It was getting to an unhealthy point for me. I keep trying to be a wrestler and be the wrestler everyone wants me to be, but I think I am content with my skills on the microphone and commentary. I feel the most at home doing that so hopefully someone will have me.”

Shaul Guerrero Announces Break From Wrestling To Focus On Mental Health

Shaul Guerrero has announced that she is canceling her upcoming bookings in pro-wrestling to focus on her mental health. The 30-year-old daughter of Eddie and Vickie Guerrero took to social media to post a statement on the matter.

“Official today I am withdrawing from all performances and appearances scheduled in conjunction with wrestling,” Guerrero said.

“After a very scary mental illness crisis I am no longer advised by loved ones and professionals to participate in high stress events at this time.”

“I deeply apologize to the fans who have been respectful and supportive of me and who continue to do so.”

Guerrero continued to say she will be using her time away to get treatment.

“I will be using this time to seek the help I need, reestablishing my eating disorder treatment and hopefully get answers and solutions to reach a health mental state.”

“I apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this may bring. Best, Shaul Guerrero.”

Guerrero was with WWE under the name Raquel Diaz from 2010 to 2014. She is a former FCW Divas Champion and a former “Queen of FCW” winner in the promotion.

She was also the ring announcer for AEW’s Women’s Tag Team Cup tournament last summer. Guerrero married Matt Rehwoldt, better known to wrestling fans as Aiden English, in 2016.

Shaul Guerrero Opens Up About The Pressures She Went Through In WWE Developmental

Shaul Guerrero was the special guest on this week’s episode of her mother’s podcast, Excuse Me. During their conversation, Shaul spoke about the pressures she has felt breaking into pro wrestling as the daughter of late WWE legend, Eddie Guerrero.

When asked by Vickie if she believed her father would be proud of her breaking into the business, Shaul replied, “I want to say he would be proud.”

She explained how her time in FCW was fuelled by pressure to be as good as Vickie and Eddie Gurrero. Shaul stressed there was a lot of pressure to “earn” her name and, at one point, felt as though she wasn’t “Latina enough for them.”

“I understood where they were coming from that they don’t want to call you by your name because if you suck we don’t want you to be a disappointment. That happened to me about two months in. I was like holy sh*t.”

Shaul Guerrero On Pressures To Be The “Ideal Diva”

Shaul noted how she never felt pressure from Vickie Guerrero. She added how she believes her family never meant to put pressure on her. Regardless, she was made to feel there were issues with her body. According to Shaul, she “needed to look more feminine” and become the “ideal Diva.”

“I was having such a hard time and the pressure was so much. I don’t know if they meant to put that pressure on me. Every rehearsal was like, ‘well your Dad did it like this.'”

She explained how she loved being compared to Eddie Guerrero as she looked up to him so much. If she drew comparisons to him because of how she moved, it was a comparison she enjoyed.

However, Shaul stated how she now wants to do things her way and do it for her. She added how she will be putting Eddie Guerrero’s legacy “to the side a little bit” as she continues her pro wrestling journey.

Shaul Guerrero recently debuted for All Elite Wrestling. She is the ring announcer for AEW’s current Women’s Tag Team Tournament Cup: The Deadly Draw competition.

Shaul Guerrero Signs With Women Of Wrestling

Shaul Guerrero has signed with the Women of Wrestling promotion. The former WWE developmental Superstar and eldest daughter of Vickie and Eddie Guerrero will serve as the promotion’s new ring announcer. WOW has signed a broadcast deal with AXS and will begin airing shows in early 2019 on the channel.

Earlier this month, WOW announced the signing of Tessa Blanchard, who will also serve as a trainer for the other wrestlers.

“Guerrero’s duties will begin on October 10TH at the WOW – Women Of Wrestling live event in Los Angeles,” a WOW press release reads. Guerrero will take over the ring announcing duties from GLOW creator David McLane, who is part owner of the project along with Jeanie Buss, owner of the LA Lakers.

David McLane Discovers Shaul Guerrero At Lucha Underground Tapings

McLane was with the cast of GLOW at some of the Lucha Underground tapings earlier this year.

“While attending this past summer’s Lucha Underground tapings, I was standing near the back of the arena and heard a powerful, dynamic voice in the ring,” said GLOW creator David McLane. “I had no clue at the time that it was Shaul Guerrero. I just knew whoever it was needed to be the new ring announcer of WOW.”

  • Backstage News On Raquel Diaz’s Release From WWE

As previously reported, WWE NXT Diva Raquel Diaz (aka Shaul Guerrero) was released from WWE earlier this week. Because she was just recently paired up with Baron Corbin as part of a gimmick makeover, it’s being said that there were no definitive plans to release her from the company. Basically, her release was likely an impulse move made by the company.

It’s worth noting that Diaz had a reputation of not taking training seriously and was also someone who would consistently request time off. Additionally, she actually quit the company during her initial run, but eventually opted to make a return.

As of right now there is no word as to whether or not Corbin will continue to work under his new biker persona, a gimmick that Diaz was originally planned to be a part of.

All Cage Matches At No Way Out, FCW Talent Ready, Taker

    – WWE’s upcoming No Way Out pay-per-view on June 17th from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ will feature an “all cage matches” format, much like TNA’s annual Lockdown event. It remains to be seen whether WWE will build up feuds that are developed & mature enough to warrant a cage match. No Way Out will be facing stiff competition on pay-per-view that weekend, with the big Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch rumored to be taking place the night before from Brazil in an 80,000 person stadium.

    – Last week on RAW, the Undertaker made a mistake during his promo, stating that WrestleMania takes place on April 21st. Virtually nobody said anything about it backstage, but there was a feeling that anybody else without the Undertaker’s locker room clout would have gotten heat for the mistake.

    – WWE plans to call up several wrestlers from developmental in the months after WrestleMania 28. Among the top prospects at FCW who are ready for a spot on the main roster are Seth Rollins, Dean Amborse, Damien Sandow and Husky Harris. – King of the Ring winner Sheamus has lost his last 6 pay-per-view matches heading into his WrestleMania feud with United States Champion Daniel Bryan. So far this year, the former WWE champion has a win-loss record on television (and pay-per-views) of 1-8.

RAW producer Kevin Dunn is reportedly not fan of Sheamus, despite Triple H being a strong ally of his.

    – The WrestleMania Axxess signings on Saturday night during the WWE Hall of Fame are usually dreaded by some of the WWE talents as they have to miss the start, or sometimes all of the ceremony. The wrestlers signing during the Hall this year are David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd, The Usos, Primo, Chris Masters, Kaitlyn, Rosa Mendes, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Ezekiel Jackson and Wade Barrett.

    – To update the story of Samoa Joe’s TNA contract expiring, the latest is that negotiations between the two sides are ongoing. As for whether jumping ship to World Wrestling Entertainment is an option for Joe – there is reportedly “no interest” from WWE about bringing in the former TNA Champion, according to f4wonline.com.

For anybody that’s familiar with Joe’s work and knows what he could bring to the company, I think we can all agree – that’s a damn shame.

‘Chavo Classic’ Comments On WWE Signing Eddie’s Daughter

Chavo “Classic” Guerrero, Sr. gave his thoughts on WWE signing the 20-year-old daughter of the late Eddie Guerrero, Shaul Marie Guerrero, to a developmental contract.

“My dad never approved of women wrestlers,” he told Monday Night Mayhem. “Put it this way: Shaul is going to be the first Guerrero woman to get into the business. If I thought like before, if I thought like the way my father thought, I would be not really too much into the idea, but times change. If that’s what my niece wants to do, then I have the full support of her. I appreciate the WWE taking her in, and giving her the opportunity, and paying her to train, which is even better. It’s going to be up to her to get better and better everyday.”
