Spoiler: Backstage News From Monday’s RAW And Tonight’s SmackDown Taping

WWE Superstars Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback and Erick Rowan were all backstage at the WWE RAW Reunion show on Monday night in Dallas, Texas.

None of the four stars were used on television, but are expected to be at tonight’s WWE SmackDown television taping in Austin, Texas.

Since Ziggler, Ryback and Rowan won their jobs back on RAW, it’s believed that they’ll make their official return and be used on tonight’s taping.

As far as Sheamus goes, he has been out with an injury, however he cut a promo that didn’t air on the television show, so his return is imminent as well.

Backstage Update On Sheamus Returning To Action

Sheamus, who has not appeared for WWE since losing the United States Championship to Rusev in a live post-Raw bout on the WWE Network on Nov. 4, is scheduled to return either at tomorrow night’s SmackDown taping in Austin, Texas, or this Sunday at the Royal Rumble.

“The Celtic Warrior” is currently scheduled for the Royal Rumble Match, according to PWInsider.com, but may appear at tomorrow night’s taping.

The day after Sheamus lost the belt, WWE announced that he would be sidelined after suffering left cervical neurapraxia (stinger in arm), bone spurring, narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis) and narrowing of the nerve canals (neuroforaminal) along with nerve compression in his neck. Because of these injuries, Sheamus was pulled from Team Cena in the Traditional Elimination Tag Team match on Nov. 23 at “Survivor Series.” He was replaced by Erick Rowan.

The angle on Raw with Mark Henry putting Sheamus through the announce table was used as a means to write him off television. Although many perceived this injury to be part of a storyline, he was in fact hurt.

On Nov. 20, Sheamus indicated that he had undergone some sort of surgery and Tweeted out a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed getting prepped for an undisclosed operation.

Daniel Bryan Reveals Who He Was Originally Scheduled To Face At WrestleMania 30

Promoting SmackDown moving to Thursday nights, Daniel Bryan spoke to Joshua Stewart of NewsDay.com. During the interview, Bryan reveals that he was originally not scheduled to compete in the main event of WrestleMania 30. Rather, he was supposed to face Sheamus in the fifth or sixth match on the card.

“I can tell you 100 percent for a fact that I was not supposed to be in the main event at WrestleMania 30,” Bryan said. “That is one of the coolest things about WWE and wrestling in general. The fans have this very unique voice, and this very unique power, and in no other sport and no other form of entertainment can the fans make their voices heard and it affect change.”

Bryan also talked about believing that his neck injury may end his wrestling career, the sessions that fixed him and more. The full article is available here.

Details On Sheamus Possibly Returning Soon As A Heel

Sheamus noted on social media recently that he’s heading back to the United States this coming weekend. He has been at home in Ireland for the holidays recently, while recovering from an operation he had near the end of November.

There’s no official word yet as to what kind of surgery Sheamus had, but the storyline at the time claimed that he suffered “a left cervical neurapraxia (stinger in arm), bone spurring, narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis) and narrowing of the nerve canals (neuroforaminal) along with nerve compression in his neck.”

Speaking of Sheamus’ return, there has been some speculation within WWE that he will end up coming back to work as a heel for WrestleMania 31 season.

  • Detailed Backstage Update On Recent Brock Lesnar Merchandise Story

It was reported a few days ago that WWE’s merchandise department was told to no longer produce new merchandise items for Brock Lesnar, and to instead switch anything earmarked for Lesnar to Sheamus. After the initial report, WWE released a brief statement denying the story, claiming that there’s no truth to it at all.

In an update, apparently it was a licensing partner of WWE’s that was informed to no longer produce new Lesnar items. They were also reportedly told that any group-shot merchandise, which would include all of WWE’s top stars, should no longer feature Lesnar, and to replace him in anything of that nature with Sheamus.

According to those close to the situation, this is not necessarily an indication that Lesnar is leaving after WrestleMania 31. Instead, it’s believed that because Lesnar has yet to re-sign with the company, third-party companies were told not to produce anything new just to be on the safe side.

Apparently these companies were told this in regards to merchandise items that would be released after WrestleMania 31, which takes place on March 29, 2015.

  • Ranking Every TLC Pay-Per-View

Next Sunday, the WWE will dust off the tables, ladders, chairs, and apparently stairs for its annual hardcore spectacular. This year’s event will be held in Cleveland, Ohio and will be the sixth incarnation of the pay-per-view.

This will be only the second TLC pay-per-view to not feature a WWE Championship match, as Brock Lesnar is still sitting at home collecting a paycheck. In the past, the WWE has used this event to lay the groundwork for the Road to WrestleMania while providing a sense of finality to various feuds with the hardcore element. With that said, here is a look back at the first five TLC pay-per-view events.

Latest Regarding Sheamus’ Surgery: Was His Injury A Work After All?

Regarding the Sheamus injury situation, the WWE Superstar apparently underwent surgery this past week, or at least gave off the impression that he did.

According to one source, the angle where Mark Henry slammed Sheamus through the announce table was done by design as part of a work that was going to result in him suffering an “undisclosed injury.”

WWE has not yet confirmed the injury, and all that was told to specific members of the media was that Sheamus suffered a “stinger,” which is a type of injury that generally doesn’t require surgery.

Additionally, there has been no follow-up from WWE regarding the situation, and usually when a talent undergoes an operation, especially a top name, they play that kind of stuff up pretty big.

  • WWE Main Event Results – November 18, 2014

The following are results of this week’s edition of WWE Main Event, which emanated from Knoxville, Tennessee and aired live on the WWE Network.

    – The Usos def. Goldust & Stardust in tag-team action. The match was a non-title bout, which saw Uso hit a superkick and top-rope splash on Stardust for the 1-2-3.

    – Alicia Fox def. Paige in Divas action. Paige dominated most of the action, however Fox rolled her up out of nowhere for the pinfall victory.

    – Renee Young interviewed Adam Rose backstage. The Bunny was also there. Young shows footage of The Bunny humping Rose on RAW. Rose talks about finding The Bunny broke in Times Square. He tells The Bunny not to hump anymore, calls himself a god and says it’s his job to put his “creatures” back in their place.

    – Tyson Kidd & Natalya def. Adam Rose & The Bunny in an interspecies tag-team match. The finish saw The Bunny accidentally bump Rose to the floor. Kidd slapped the Sharpshooter on The Bunny, Rose teased making the save, but instead backed off and watched as The Bunny tapped out. After the match, Kidd hit The Bunny with a cheap-shot, which Natalya didn’t like.

    – Michael Cole provided an injury update on Sheamus. He said that after being put through a table by Mark Henry on RAW, Sheamus has a number of neck and nerve injuries, which are bad enough that he will not be able to compete at Survivor Series.

    – Bray Wyatt cuts an in-ring promo. He talks about the match with Dean Ambrose this Sunday at Survivor Series. He said Ambrose turned his back on him and made a mockery of him, and said because of that, there will be repercussions. He says they could have ruled the world together.

    – Bray Wyatt def. Jack Swagger in the main event of the show. It was a competitive match which saw Swagger hit a Swagger Bomb and lock in the Patriot Lock on Wyatt, but ultimately Wyatt fought his way out and nailed Swagger with Sister Abigail for the pin. Prior to hitting his finisher on Swagger, Wyatt yelled out “this is your fate, Dean Ambrose!”

Final Members For “Team Cena” And “Team Authority” Announced

During a match between Big Show and Sheamus on Monday’s WWE Survivor Series “go-home” edition of RAW, which featured interference from Rusev and Mark Henry, Sheamus was “injured” and is now no longer part of “Team Cena” in the traditional elimination match main event for this Sunday’s pay-per-view.

This led to the main event “contract signing” between Team Cena and Team Authority. While no contracts were actually signed, all members of the now five-on-six elimination match for this Sunday’s WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view was announced.

Team Authority will feature Seth Rollins, Kane, Mark Henry, Rusev, Luke Harper and Cesaro.

Team Cena consists of John Cena, Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan and Ryback.

Backstage News On Ryback’s Push, Survivor Series Matches

As you might have picked up on, the top priority for WWE television this past week was to elevate Ryback back to the top-tier status he enjoyed prior to his lost to CM Punk at Hell in a Cell 2013.

Speaking of Ryback, he’s official for “Team Cena” at the upcoming WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view on November 23rd, as he joins team captain John Cena and team members Dolph Ziggler, Big Show and Sheamus.

On the other end of the match, which is a traditional ten-man elimination style match with the big Authority stipulation, is Seth Rollins, Kane, Mark Henry, Rusev and Luke Harper.

Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt and Nikki Bella vs. AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Championship are the only other two matches official for the show thus far.

As noted, Adam Rose vs. The Bunny in a Kickoff Show match and a WWE Tag-Team Championship four-way with Goldust & Stardust vs. The Usos vs. Los Matadores vs. The Miz and Damien Mizdow is also expected.

WWE Survivor Series 2014: Predicting the Undercard

Survivor Series is less than two weeks away, and while three matches on the card are essentially set, much of the program is still unannounced. So, will the WWE work to build a pay-per-view that is solid from top to bottom, or are they simply throwing in the towel because this is a “free” event? Here is the card is expect to see on November 23rd in St. Louis.

    Adam Rose vs. The Bunny

    bunny

After attacking the Bunny last week on Raw, it appears these two legends of the squared circle will square off sooner rather than later. This pairing has kickoff show written all over it, as the company tries to get the crowd going with a “humorous” contest.

Gold & Stardust (Tag Team Champions) vs. The Miz & Damien Mizdow vs. Los Matadores vs. The Usos

    damien-sandow-and-the-miz-ses-1

Los Matadores have picked up a few victories over Gold & Stardust over the past few weeks, and the Miz and his stunt double have also feuded with the champs. Throw in the Usos to make an even number of teams, and you’ve got yourself an elimination tag team match for the straps.

  • Off-Air RAW Notes: Post-Show Dark Match, Crowd Reactions & More

Following this week’s edition of WWE RAW, which was taped this afternoon in Liverpool, England and will air in its’ normal time slot tonight, a six-man tag-team match took place as the post-show dark match.

The match featured John Cena, Sheamus and Big Show teaming up to take on the trio of Seth Rollins, Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury.

As soon as the bell rung, Noble and Mercury bailed, leaving “Mr. Money In The Bank” by himself. This led to Sheamus hitting a Brogue Kick, Show hitting a WMD and Cena hitting an Attitude Adjustment on Rollins.

Also, as noted last week, WWE officials were worried about crowd reactions heading into television tapings in England as a result of the WWE Network launch issues. For those wondering, the popular anti-WWE chant throughout the taping this afternoon was “Where’s our Network?!”

    – It looks like WWE has dropped the “We’re here” part of the ring entrance for Bray Wyatt.

    – The Big Show vs. Randy Orton match scheduled for WWE’s return to Madison Square Garden on December 26th has been changed to Big Show vs. Mark Henry. Also scheduled for the 12/26 MSG live event is Rusev vs. Sheamus for the WWE United States Championship and John Cena vs. Seth Rollins as the main event.

    – Another name who was at the most recent WWE tryout camp was Mark Ptasnik, who is Midwest independent wrestler Mark Sterling. He was recommended by Gerald Brisco. The negative on Ptasnik is that he is already 35 years old, which is expected to hurt his chances of getting a deal.

  • Sheamus On Losing U.S. Title To Rusev, WWE European Tour, WrestleMania

The following are highlights of a new U.K. Independent interview with Sheamus:

Returning home: “It’s always great to come home, it really is. It just kind of resets me every time I come home and reminds me how it started and how far I’ve come, and it’s kind of like the same thing where you’re so busy that you sort of get lost in the day-to-day stuff but you come home and it really puts everything into perspective.”

“This is where I started, I started in the UK and in Ireland wrestling, did my first couple of tryouts here a couple of years ago, well actually more than a couple of years ago back in 2005, 2006 and 2007 so yeah, it’s very special for me.”

Wanting a rematch against United States Champion Rusev: “I obviously want a rematch. I want to prove I can beat Rusev. That’s important, we went back and forth the other night – it was a long night – but it was cool the way it was on the network. It was like the first of its kind, to broadcast that match on the network and it shows how powerful the network can be with so much opportunity and options that the WWE can put any match on there, anytime, anywhere, exclusively for the fans that subscribe to the network.”

Possibly being in a UK WrestleMania main event: “That’d be fantastic. At Wembley, the Aviva Stadium or even Croke Park in Dublin, that would be amazing. I’d love nothing more, but I’ve got to get some more momentum first. I just lost the US Championship so I’ve got to get some momentum behind me, get everything back into perspective and I think I’ve got to come a little bit more ruthless and selfish to go out there and put Sheamus back where he belongs, back in the main event.”

Once an occasional treat for the WWE Universe, the Hell in a Cell match has become a yearly event since the introduction of the eponymous pay-per-view in 2009. Since its inception, the company has yet to truly knock it out of the park with Hell in a Cell, although fans have witnessed some memorable moments.

This year, it will be either John Cena or Dean Ambrose headlining the event against Seth Rollins inside the most ominous structure in sports entertainment. As the company builds up its next pay-per-view, here is a look back at the first five Hell in a Cell events.

This event really didn’t have a pay-per-view feel to it. The undercard was primarily filled with forgettable matches that had little impact on future storylines. The main event was also lacking due to injury.

It was clear that the company had no idea what to do after John Cena went down to injury, leading to Ryback receiving a premature main event push. From top to bottom, this event was lacking and easily locks up the honor of being the worst Hell in a Cell pay-per-view to date.
