Former WWE World Champion Sheamus recently sat down with The Mirror in the UK to promote the RAW brand, and revealed his two favorite opponents so far in WWE since his 2009 debut. Sheamus says that he loved his best-of-seven series with Cesaro, and the only other person who was “as physical” as Cesaro was current SmackDown personality Daniel Bryan.
“We wrestled a ton of times, on TV and off TV,” Sheamus said of Cesaro. “I love wrestling him. The competition between me and him is great. It’s been an interesting couple of weeks since Mick Foley put us together as a team. We’ve had a lot of fun.”
Regarding the WWE World Championship or Universal Championship, Sheamus says he’s “done all that sort of stuff,” and is now exploring his character more in the tag team division. Sheamus said his run in the League of Nations didn’t give him a chance to delve into his character or bounce off each other, which he feels he’s doing with Cesaro now.
Sheamus’ last WWE World Title run lasted 22 days, and he lost the belt to Roman Reigns. Sheamus feels that he was doing a good job as a heel by getting the fans to stop booing Reigns, and at the time thought he had more life in his World Title run.
“Do I feel like I could have gone a lot longer with this? Absolutely, I kind of felt like my legs were cut from underneath me,” he told the Mirror. “To be honest. I felt like I was really starting to get some steam, to get some momentum. But ultimately my job was to get Roman back to where he needed to be with the fans behind him and as a heel I was able to do that. Which was for me I guess a special moment.”

Winning the WWE Championship back in 2009:

His current approach to Nutrition:
“I eat six meals per day and supplement with protein shakes. Nutrition Solutions pre-prepare my meals. I can take those on the road with me. Even the healthier food you see when traveling can be high in sodium, so I try to avoid that. I try to eat a lot of steak, and a lot of chicken, and I’m not really too ‘carb conscious’ because I’m burning energy by being in the ring and working out.”
What’s next for him:
“Right now I’m in a very good place were I have achieved 4 World Heavyweight Titles, I’ve won the Royal Rumble, and Money in the Bank. Eric Escobar says he had some interesting encounters with Sheamus back in their developmental days. The former FCW Heavyweight Champion and SmackDown star was on the Pancakes & Powerslams Show, and was asked about the rumors of Sheamus being difficult to deal with in the ring.
“He always wanted to be the dominant big guy. If I stand next to you, we’re basically the same size, so there’s no big guy/little guy situation going on here. When he got in the mindset that he was big guy and I was little guy, he got a little bit more hesitant about a few things in the match,” Escobar said of Sheamus in FCW.
Escobar revealed that several other wrestlers had approached him and said Sheamus was being too stiff with them, and would approach Escobar for guidance on the situation due to his tenure in FCW. He said some newer wrestlers were afraid to stiff Sheamus back because they didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. Escobar recalled a match where he felt Sheamus was too stiff with him, so he says he simply hit him back and that the Irish superstar seemed to get the point.
“I always give the guys a ‘three strike rule.’ So he pops me one, and I go, okay – one. He pops me twice – two. He pops he three times – okay, my turn,” said Escobar. “So, after I popped him back, I left my [hand print] stamped on his back for like a week. I think after that, we had no more problems. He wasn’t stiff or anything.”

There was definitely a lot of pressure, but walking away from the premiere after seeing the movie, I was very happy.”
– Sasha Banks represented WWE at the 2016 Event & Arena Marketing Conference in Nashville, TN this weekend:
Former World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus was recently interviewed by The 42 to promote the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and revealed some details about his first encounter with WWE chairman Vince McMahon.
Sheamus, who first signed his WWE developmental deal back in 2006, talked about his tryout match for the company and meeting Vince for the first time. Sheamus admitted that meeting his soon-to-be boss was “very intimidating.” Sheamus shared a story about him giving Vince a weak handshake, and Vince calling him out on it.
“Is that a handshake?,” Sheamus recalls McMahon saying, as he pulled his hand away. “Give me a proper handshake!” Sheamus have him a more sturdy handshake, and the WWE chairman replied, “that’s better” and walked off.
Sheamus will be at the Wizard World Comic Con Philadelphia this afternoon from 3:15 PM to 6:30 PM.
Sheamus is currently doing the media rounds to promote his role in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turttles movie. During an overseas press event, the former WWE Champion spoke about the possibility of getting in the ring with actor Stephen Amell, who also stars in the movie.
“He did a stellar performance at SummerSlam. I’d love the opportunity to take him on in the ring!” Sheamus said.
“The first time I sat down and met Stephen on set, he surprised me being a huge WWE fan, and so knowledgeable about it for all his life. I talked a bit about what I do, I was like, ‘Oh you know, come off the top rope, this and that,’ then he shows me this video of him doing Parkour, jumping off walls, doing flips, coming down, another flip, jump out to another wall… I was like, oh, I’ll stop talking about myself now. – Sheamus was in Ireland on Monday doing promotional work for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, which is why he wasn’t at RAW. WWE posted this behind-the-scenes video of Sheamus on the set of TMNT 2:
Sheamus recently spoke with Zap2It to promote his role in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles website. Of course, the Celtic Warrior was asked about WWE and specifically, the upcoming brand split.
He strongly believes the original brand split allowed guys like him and Daniel Bryan to break into the main events on SmackDown after getting lost in the shuffle on RAW.
“I think it’s great. I think the brand split is good. When I came into WWE in 2009, I had a huge opportunity and got a huge push. It was fantastic. Myself and Daniel Bryan made it because of Smackdown. We were doing two-minute segments on ‘Raw’ before we moved over to the blue brand. To me, Smackdown is much more the wrestling style show.”
“The great thing about Smackdown was, when things were separated last time, a lot of guys were able to breakout. We’ve got great characters and such a vast pool of talent that hasn’t really gotten the chance to shine yet.”
Aside from the opportunities the brand split will afford WWE’s emerging talent, Superstars will also be less over-exposed and hypothetically there will be the potential for countless ‘dream matches’ down the road. Check out the full interview at Zap2It.
