More On Miz & Bryan’s Talking Smack Segment, Nakamura & Roode’s Entrances In 360

    – The recent Talking Smack segment featuring Daniel Bryan and The Miz was loosely scripted, but WWE officials were surprised with how it played out. Both men were given some leeway with what they could say, but few people expected it to get the attention it did. While The Miz cut one of the best promos of his career and showed a fire rarely tapped into by the Intercontinental champion, there’s also a feeling that it won’t lead to a real payoff since Daniel Bryan can’t wrestle.

    – With Curt Hawkins returning to WWE television soon as part of the SmackDown brand, the former tag team champion stopped by the Performance Center in Orlando to check out the world class training facility.

    – WWE has posted a new video looking at the 4 hottest free agents in WWE, including The Undertaker, The Rock, Luke Harper and Emma. As noted over the weekend, Luke Harper is headed to the Performance Center this week to see how his knee is doing after undergoing ACL surgery back in March.

    – WWE has released two more 360 degree videos from NXT Takeover. Below, you can experience Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura’s entrances like never before. You can control the videos with your mouse or by tilting your mobile device.

Why Okada Was At WWE SummerSlam, Backstage Photo

There’s been a lot of speculation on why top NJPW star Kazuchika Okada was backstage for NXT Takeover and WWE SummerSlam in Brooklyn but as he’s signed to a New Japan deal, he legally cannot talk with WWE.

Okada was reportedly there just as a guest of new NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura.

  • Finn Balor vs. Shinsuke Nakamura Happening Before Takeover: Brooklyn

Finn Balor vs. Shinsuke Nakamura Happening Before Takeover: Brooklyn

It was announced on this week’s episode of NXT that the highly anticipated Finn Balor vs. Shinsuke Nakamura dream match will take place on the July 13th episode of NXT.

It was expected that NXT would hold off on this match until Takeover: Brooklyn, especially after Triple H strongly hinted this on Twitter. It’s also worth noting that the July 13th episode of NXT takes place just days before the WWE Draft. Jus sayin’.

WWE will tape the next 3 weeks of NXT television on Friday from Full Sail, which will include the July 13th episode and Balor vs. Nakamura.

  • Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura & Austin Aries Added To WWE Live Event

Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura & Austin Aries Added To WWE Live Event

Four of NXT’s top competitors have been added to Sunday’s WWE live event from Orlando, Florida, a show Roman Reigns will miss due to his 30-day suspension for violating the company’s talent wellness policy.

Orlando’s Amway Center now is advertising a bonus NXT tag team match that is a pretty damn good consolation prize: NXT Champion Samoa Joe and Austin Aries will team up against Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Other top stars advertised to appear include Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Alberto Del Rio, Sasha Banks, Eva Marie and “Members of The Club.”

The NXT tag match comes just weeks before the WWE Draft, when up to a dozen NXT performers are rumored to be joining RAW and SmackDown. While Samoa Joe is still NXT champion and Nakamura/Balor appear to be on a collision course for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, you’d be hard pressed to find anybody in NXT more qualified to be drafted than these four.

  • Spoiler – Big Match Teased For NXT Takeover: Brooklyn

At Thursday night’s NXT TV tapings, the stage was set for an eventual showdown between Shinsuke Nakamura and former NXT Champion Finn Balor.

At the conclusion of the first show (airing next week), Balor cut a promo about NXT being a part of him, no matter what lies ahead. He was interrupted by Shinsuke Nakamura, who said he has to defeat Balor, an NXT icon, before becoming champion. Balor acknowledged a match with Nakamura was looming.

Triple H tweeted the following photo from backstage at the tapings, strongly hinting that this NXT dream match will take place at Takeover: Brooklyn during SummerSlam weekend:

  • Seth Rollins & Randy Orton’s Returns, Adam Rose Deletes ‘Wellness Suspension’ Tweets

    – Shinsuke Nakamura’s new WWE t-shirt sold out immediately when released in Japan on May 2nd.

    – For whatever reason, Adam Rose has deleted his tweets regarding his 60-day suspension from WWE, including his initial reaction to the Wellness policy violation as well as the doctor’s note he posted this week, which explained that he’s been legally prescribed Adderall to treat his Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

    – Seth Rollins is getting close to being medically cleared to return to WWE. The former WWE World Heavyweight champion underwent reconstructive surgery back in November to repair ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus tears in his right knee. The injury was sustained during a match against Kane at a WWE live event from in Dublin, Ireland. You can see footage of the incident here.

Randy Orton’s recovery from shoulder surgery, however, going slower than expected. He’s recovering and could be at the WWE Performance Center to train for a ring return as soon as mid-June.

  • Sami Zayn On Not Working With Shinsuke Nakamura Before NXT Takeover

Sami Zayn On Not Working With Shinsuke Nakamura Before NXT Takeover

Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura had arguably the “Match of the Year” inside the WWE at NXT Takeover Dallas.

Fans all around the world were anticipating a spectacle, and both men delivered in a major way. Millions watched as Nakamura’s WWE NXT debut was everything they expected it to be, and more. It was also Zayn’s final match in NXT, which was a somber, but exciting moment.

What’s interesting is how the match came to be behind the scenes. On a recent episode of Talk Is Jericho, Sami Zayn revealed that he and Nakamura didn’t interact before their match at NXT Takeover.

“I think I met him literally once. And we’ve had very parallel careers. He started [at] the same time as me. I think I started two months before him or something. [Him] 14 years, me 14 years. He was in New Japan. I never worked New Japan, so we never worked. We’ve met maybe once. We never touched and I remember Matt Bloom, who’s head of the WWE Performance Center now was saying, ‘Hey, maybe you guys want to get in the PC and spar a little or something like that. I don’t want the first time you guys get in the ring ever, the first time you touch, to be at this big match.’ And unbeknownst to me, Nakamura said the same thing I said, ‘No, no, no. I prefer that,’ which is a dangerous thing, but it’s what I know. Yes, I prefer for the first time to be in the show, instead of a ‘Hey, lets feel it out in the ring’ [and] feel how this guy moves and stuff. So we ended up putting something together.’” – Sami Zayn

Knowing the back story to Zayn and Nakamura’s match at NXT Takeover Dallas immediately makes it more impressive.

It’s a known fact that there are wrestlers who don’t like to outline a match move by move. Clearly, neither of those men like to either and it was one of the greatest matches in NXT history.

  • Why Nakamura’s Finisher Has A New Name, New WWE Dress Code, Titus O’Neil

Why Nakamura’s Finisher Has A New Name, New WWE Dress Code, Titus O’Neil

    – Shinsuke Nakamura is using the same finisher in NXT that he used in Japan, but the name has been changed. In Japan it was called the Bomaye, and in NXT it’s called the Kinshasa. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the change was made because a clothing company in the U.S. already has “Bomaye” trademarked.

    – WWE talent now has a way to get out of WWE’s business casual dress code while on tour. The dress code is now either business casual, or Tapout brand athletic apparel. The Wrestling Observer reports that WWE owns part of Tapout and sees their stars promoting the brand as good business.

    – Titus O’Neil will be on a new episode of Animal Planet’s Tanked tonight. On the show, a fish tank company called Acrylic Tank Manufacturing designs Titus a gator-themed tank that pays homage to his alma mater, the University of Florida.

  • Jim Cornette: Nakamura Will Be A Star On The Main Roster If …

Jim Cornette: Nakamura Will Be A Star On The Main Roster If …

During a recent appearance on the Ross Report podcast, Jim Cornette spoke to Jim Ross about Shinsuke Nakamura and how he feels the Japanese wrestling sensation will fare in WWE.

At this point there’s no question as to whether or not Nakamura has the tools to succeed. Besides being a world-class in-ring talent, his charisma is electric and his appeal is undeniable. As somebody who knows talent as well as anybody, Cornette feels that Nakamura’s upside in WWE is more dependent on Vince McMahon’s preferences than Nakamura’s abilities.

“I think it comes down to he will be a superstar in NXT and people are going to love him whenever he appears with that brand,” Cornette said. “And when he gets to the main roster, I’ve got to be honest with you, I think it depends on how Vince sees him.”

He continued, “Obviously, everything [in WWE] depends on how Vince sees something, but he hasn’t had the best track record, and I’ll tell you, it’s not a racist thing with international stars, whether it be luchadores, whether it be Japanese talent, [or] whether it be anybody from Europe. Sometimes, the chairman does not understand what they have meant to their world because he’s so isolated in his and he tries, possibly, to remake them in the image that he perceives for them. That may not work.”

Cornette feels that in certain ways, Nakamura is in the same boat as WWE legends like Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar were – “essentially the more [Nakamura] is himself and he’s allowed to do his thing, the better off he’ll be.”

Shinsuke Nakamura Injured Friday Night: 4 Staples To Close Nasty Cut

Shinsuke Nakamura received 4 staples on the back of his head after working singles match at Friday night’s NXT live event from South Carolina.

Nakamura wrestled against Manny Andrade (formerly known as La Sombra) at the NXT live event in Columbia, South Carolina last night and during their match, Nakamura appeared to be hurt.

Andrade executed a moonsault off the top rope, landing on Nakamura on the floor. After taking the move, Nakamura remained on the ground. The match was stopped for approximately two minutes while medical officials checked on him. Luckily, he was able to get up and finish the match.

  • Editorial: Where Does Jericho Go From Here?

Editorial: Where Does Jericho Go From Here?

Wrestlemania 32 is in the books and it is fair to say that there were some….intriguing….booking choices made by the company, probably the most notable was Y2J picking up the win against AJ Styles, a man who as far as I can recall is the only man to have ever performed at Wrestle Kingdom and Wrestlemania in the same year and lose at both events.

More confusing is that the next night on the Raw after Mania they gave the number 1 contendership to AJ in a match where he pinned Jericho following a Styles Clash, driving home the ‘parity’ booking mentality the company seems to rely on heavily. Jericho has certainly lost more than his fair share of matches and has been more than willing to put over newer talent, even if it leads to obscurity for said talent (….Fandango), but for AJ’s first PPV event he really should’ve picked up the win.

After the win against AJ I fully expected Jericho to be placed in a program with Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship, this feud would’ve been an ideal opportunity for Reigns to learn from a grizzled vet and you can guarantee that Y2J would’ve done all he could’ve to try and stop the fans cheering him in an attempt to get Reigns over. But now that AJ has been placed in this slot for the Payback match what is there left for Jericho to do? There are 4 opponents that I would like to see him face off against from here:

    • Dean Ambrose – After an underwhelming match with Brock Lesnar at Mania; Ambrose also appears to be a man without a purpose, I have no doubt that an eventual Shield 3 way match for the title is on the cards when Seth Rollins is healthy, but in the meantime I see no reason why Jericho can’t have a similar program to that with CM Punk back in 2012, both are good promos and have the ability to work in a variety of stipulation matches that could re-establish Ambrose as a main event contender going forward, his reactions from the live crowds certainly warrant a prolonged push and I felt he was put in a difficult position with Lesnar as there was no way that they could live up to the Street Fights of yesteryear without the ability to bring blood into their match and that Brock Lesnar should not be losing matches, especially at Wrestlemania.
    • Shinsuke Nakamura – Even if they aren’t willing to bring Shinsuke up to the main roster full time just yet we’ve seen plenty of examples of NXT talent having cross-over matches, Kevin Owens benefitted greatly from having a program with John Cena while NXT Champion. The storyline could be as simple as Jericho calling Nakamura another ‘Y2J-Wannabe’ as he wrestled in Japan first, you could easily bring up Jericho’s past in the Super-J cup tournament to create a bit of legitimacy as the company appears to be more willing to acknowledge accomplishments outside of the WWE these days, you could even have Jericho perform at a Takeover show, something I’m sure the Full Sail crowd would not complain about. Really I would love to see Shinsuke on the main roster and a feud with Jericho (the gatekeeper of the WWE ‘style’) could be a great way to introduce him to the RAW audience.
    • Cesaro – He had built up quite a lot of momentum before his injury but a placeholder feud before going for a title could be the ideal way to re-build Cesaro. I feel that this is really the time for the WWE to decide if they are going to really take a push in Cesaro seriously and if so they need to put him up against a heel that will go above and beyond to put them over to the next level, I can definitely see a feud between them working as both Y2J and the Swiss Superman are both well travelled veterans and have experience in the European style of grappling. These two could easily have a show-stealing performance at the likes of Payback and while I don’t see this as a multiple month feud it certainly warrants getting a PPV match out of them at least.
    • Sami Zayn – Out of the 4 wrestlers mentioned I would say that a program with Sami Zayn is definitely more for further down the road, once he has finished the first (of hopefully) many matches with Kevin Owens I would really enjoy seeing Zayn, who is probably one of the best babyface performers in the world right now, get a feud with Jericho; who could again impart a decent amount of wisdom onto Sami and help him move from the lighter schedule of NXT to the full 300+ days a year main roster workload he will have to adapt to.

Thanks for reading, you can check out the second episode of the R & J Wrestling podcast below looking at the 2008 feud between Jericho and Shawn Michaels:

  • Bret Hart Reviews Wrestlemania Weekend

    Bret Hart Reviews Wrestlemania Weekend

Bret Hart, WWE Hall of Famer and current host of the Sharpshooter Show Podcast, gave his opinions on Wrestlemania 32  yesterday on his show. As he has shown in the past, Hart is not afraid to tell people what he really thinks. Here are some of the more interesting highlights:

    • Disappointed with WrestleMania booking. Says “logic didn’t prevail” and the booking “wasn’t up to snuff”
    • Says he was the man who brought ladder matches to the WWE and can’t believe what a “piece of shit match” it’s turned into
    • Disappointed in the IC Title ladder match. “A lot of bullshit, a lot of wasted moves, too much laying around”. Calls it a prop match. “Stupid spots that make no sense”. Still calls the match the best match on the card
    • Says he’d line all the bookers up against the wall and shoot them
    • “Real wrestling is almost dead. CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Bret Hart, that kind of wrestling is almost dead”
    • Says he hates the Styles Clash. “Looks like you just gently brush someone’s stomach on the ground”. However, he calls it the Calf Crusher (got the two moves confused)
    • Really likes Barrett. Says he’s done the best with the lame gimmicks he’s been given. Thinks Japan may be “his cup of tea”. Compares Barrett to Drew Mcintyre. Both really good talents that were never used correctly
    • Nakamura vs Zayn was the best match of the whole WrestleMania weekend. Asuka vs Bayley was better than any match on the WrestleMania card
    • NXT is bringing “real wrestling” to the surface. RAW and WM is “a bunch of morons that sit around creating wrestling. Just writers from Hollywood who don’t know anything about the business. Just Vince Russo’s in a different uniform”
    • Everything about Nakamura vs Zayn (from entrances to handshake) was “beautiful wrestling”. Made Bret stand and salute. Said the finish to Asuka vs Bayley was also beautiful
    • Thought Sasha Banks should have won the title. It was her night and it was another bad booking decision
    • Regarding The Rock’s segment: “For me it was just another example of dweebs sitting around a table writing wrestling”. Called the whole segment “overly scripted bullshit”
