Cinta de Oro was no fan of being forced to unmask in 2011 and has admitted that he felt ‘naked’ when said unmasking happened in WWE.
De Oro is known for his WWE run as Sin Cara, but he was the second Superstar to don the mask and name. De Oro became Sin Cara after the original man behind the mask, known as Mistico in CMLL, was suspended for 30 days for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy.
Feeling Naked
Later that same year, the first Sin Cara confronted de Oro’s imposter version, with the pair being dubbed Sin Cara Azul (Mistico) and Sin Cara Negro (de Oro.) This feud culminated with a Mask Vs. Mask match on a Mexico City edition of SmackDown in which de Oro lost.
Sitting down with Sportskeeda’s Wrestle Binge podcast, de Oro recalled being told of his unmasking and how upset he was at the time.
“I was very devastated because I had never wrestled without a mask in my career… Without a mask, I felt like I was naked. I didn’t feel it was me.”
Time as a Lucha Dragon
Ironically, Cinta de Oro would re-mask years later after the original Sin Cara was released by WWE but the promotion wanted to keep the character going. By 2014, he was part of the Lucha Dragons and would capture the NXT Tag Team Championships with Kalisto that same year. In the interview though, de Oro shared his honest take on being a Lucha Dragon.
“I used to hate when they would tell me to do this (mimics Lucha chants). I felt like I was a cheerleader… But then as the crowd started loving it, then you become part of it.”
Eventually, de Oro’s time with WWE would come to an end in 2019 after he asked for his release. That same year, he would return to Mexico to compete for AAA.
Former WWE star Sin Cara has been talking about his interest in working with AEW. Talking in an interview the Mexican star said that while he had not been contacted just yet, he is open to talks and ready to make the move to the Florida based promotion should opportunity come calling.
I’m excited for the future and if they ever contact me, I’m here. He knows my number, Cody knows my number. Lot of the boys there know my number.
Sin Cara’s interest is not a surprising move given the exposure AEW is getting and their willingness to let stars wrestle for other promotions also. Since his departure from WWE the luchador has changed his gimmick to Cinta de Oro a character that has been represented by several wrestlers over the years.
With AEW already boasting a wealth of Latin talent and ties to AAA there is clear potential for the star to talk his way into a match or two. His recent twitter post hinted at something maybe being in the works.
Could a Troubled History with Jericho Hinder an AEW Run?
The only thing that might make AEW hesitant to offer the star a shot is his history as being a bit of a hothead behind the scenes. He was famously instructed to undergo anger management therapy during his WWE run, after altercations with Simon Gotch and more worryingly, Chris Jericho.
With wrestling being a business where who you know is very important, the sin (Cara) of the past may return to hamper his future.
Time will tell if there will be a debut in his future, but with such a wealth of talent already filling out the different AEW shows, you have to wonder if they need a man who was never anything more than a low mid-tier talent.
The wrestler formerly known as Sin Cara and Hunico in WWE has announced he has changed his name. The 42-year-old Jorge Arias will now be wrestling under the name Cinta de Oro. The name had previously been used by one of his wrestling idols growing up who would later become a coach of his.
According to a report from Pro Wrestling Sheet, Arias received permission to use the name from the sons of the original Cinta de Oro, who also gave him their father’s mask to wear.
Arias and the sons of the original Cinta de Oro posed for a picture on Instagram:
Last month, Sin Cara took to social media to ask WWE for his release.
“Last night, after much consideration and prayer, thinking about my kids and their future, I made one of the toughest decisions but most sensible that I could have made in my professional wrestling career; I have asked WWE for my release,” Sin Cara began his statement with.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity I was given, however, I’ve noticed that I’m trapped in a place where I’m not valued as an athlete or talent. I’ve worked hard and honestly, throughout many years pulling my weight, I’ve been loyal, respectful, a team player, a supporter and I’ve waited patiently for an opportunity to show the world all that I can do. Unfortunately, after all these years, that opportunity never came and I feel like that will never come so long as I stay in the spot that I am.”

In the wake of several WWE Superstars being released from the promotion, other Superstars have since reacted to the news. Luke Harper, who has been lobbying for his release for some time, was one of those who have finally been granted it. Sin Cara, who recently took to social media to inform his followers he had requested his release was another. Both Konnor and Viktor of the tag team The Ascension have also been released by WWE.
Their former colleagues Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler and Rusev, were just some of the few WWE Superstars who reflected and commented on their departure.
Ryder posted pictures from different moments featuring each of the released Superstars. One shows him and several Superstars about to have Sin Cara land on them during WrestleMania 32. Another has Harper clotheslining him, and the last is Ryder in makeup posing with The Ascension. He accompanied the memories with the caption, “Gonna miss these brothers.”
Ziggler uploaded a post similar to Ryder’s, thanking them. He also shared photos of him in-ring with Harper and Sin Cara as well as a picture of The Ascension with Tyler Breeze during a backstage segment.
It’s been reported that Cara had about three years left on his contract. The former WWE star returned to in-ring action earlier this year after having reconstructive knee surgery.
He would be placed in a feud alongside masked newcomer Carolina, who’s already back in NXT, against Andrade and Zelina Vega.
Luke Harper and Mike Kanellis are just two names that have recently requested for their WWE releases.
It’s been reported in the past that WWE officials were not interested in releasing talents who ask because they thought those talents would go to other promotions such as AEW and NJPW where they would add value to those companies
Now a new report from PWinsider has provided some more updates on the situations and it reveals how the WWE Officials are reacting to the high flying star’s request.
The report reveals that he is interested in joining the Combate Americas MMA promotion which features several wrestlers including the former WWE World Champion Alberto Del Rio.
However, while the Raw star may have started thinking about his future, word going around is that the officials will not be granting his request and he is expected to stay with the company. Cara has 3 years left in his current contract.
Sin Cara is part of WWE’s ongoing European tour and he was scheduled to be featured on next Monday’s episode of Raw from Boston, Massachusetts but now the plans have changed and officials have decided to send him home instead.
Jorge Arias, the man who currently plays the Sin Cara character joined WWE in 2010. He spent a couple of years in development, before being brought up to main roster in 2011 as Sin Cara temporarily, in the absence of Luis Urive who originally played the character.
He took over the gimmick permanently after Urive was
released from his contract in 2013 and he has been playing the role on WWE
television ever since.
Sin Cara has asked for his release from WWE. Real-name Jorge Arias, the 42-year-old has portrayed the Sin Cara gimmick since 2013. The character had previously been played by the luchador better known as Mistico or Carstico.
Sin Cara posted the following to social media earlier today:
Sin Cara is the latest WWE Superstar to go public with his request for a release. Over the past several months, Luke Harper and Mike Kanellis have done the same, yet both men remain under contract.
Sin Cara Asks For His WWE Release
“Last night, after much consideration and prayer, thinking about my kids and their future, I made one of the toughest decisions but most sensible that I could have made in my professional wrestling career; I have asked WWE for my release,” Sin Cara began his statement with.
He then noted that he feels trapped in his current position on the WWE roster.
WWE SmackDown star Sin Cara has made his return to the ring at Friday’s WWE live event in El, Paso Texas on 27 September.
He participated in an opening eight-man tag team match where he teamed up with Kalisto, Lince Dorado and Titus O’Neil to defeat the team of EC3, Eric Young, Tony Nese and WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak.
After being involved in a short-lived feud with Andrade, Sin Cara underwent knee surgery back in August 2018. During the checkup, medical personnel found scar tissue in his joint which was surgically removed.
In March of this year he was cleared to return to the ring and he was seen a couple of months later participating in the 51-man battle royal at Super ShowDown in June. That was all we saw from him until last Friday.
Sin Cara’s son also made it to the ring to celebrate with his father after the match at the live event.
The live event was opened with a video tribute for the victims of the August 3 El Paso shooting. Sin Cara and his son welcomed the El Paso first responders to the ring, as another tribute.

Kurt Angle Defends Baron Corbin As WrestleMania Opponent
Kurt Angle announced Baron Corbin as his WrestleMania opponent on this week’s episode of Raw and it’s safe to say that this isn’t the most popular decision WWE has made in recent times.
Fans have been showing their displeasure with the announcement on social media since it was made and Angle looks to be defending his choice with the following post:
There are speculations that Corbin will not end up being Angle’s opponent afterall but as of now, The Lone Wolf vs. The Olympic Gold Medallist is the part of the official match card for the show.
Sin Cara Signs New Contract
Former NXT Star and former NXT Tag Team Champion Sin Cara has signed a new 3 years deal to remain with WWE, according to PWInsider.
Cara, real name Jorge Arias has been with WWE since 2009 and he took over the moniker when the original Sin Cara Luis Urive, better known as Místico left WWE in 2013.
Sin Cara has been out of action since last August due to a knee injury. We last heard of him earlier last month when he teased a return and a possible tag team with Rey Mysterio.
Sin Cara, who is currently signed to the WWE’s SmackDown Live brand, has been out with a knee injury since August 2018. He had to get scar tissue removed surgically from his joint and has been recovering since.
The masked luchador has been getting close to an in-ring return, as he was spotted at the WWE Performance Center in Florida on 14 January. It was reported last month that Sin Cara was expected to work with Rey Mysterio when he returns.
Recently, Sin Cara made a post on Twitter where he wrote that it is almost time to get back in the ring and posted a picture of his mask beside Rey Mysterio’s and teased a future tag team formation:
“Almost time to be back and ready to be the best that I can be.
Future Tag Team!?”
Almost time to be back and ready to be the best that I can be. Future Tag Team⁉️🇲🇽🇺🇸 Todo puede suceder, así que a seguir a darle con todo a la Lucha de día a día. 🙏🏼#Dreamspic.twitter.com/lBPv9kdKeW
The team of Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio can be a great addition to the tag-team division of SmackDown Live. This opens up opportunities for the masked superstars to later have a feud in the future which will be interesting to see too.
There are reportedly plans being made for Sin Cara once he returns from injury. The Luchador Superstar has been out of action since August with a knee injury. Apparently Sin Cara has returned to the WWE Performance Center this week and has begun training for an in ring return.
The plan according to PWInsider is for Cara to feud with Rey Mysterio at some point in the near future. This will of course take place on the Smackdown Live brand.
There were rumors many years ago of a planned Mysterio vs Sin Cara match to take place at a WrestleMania. This was with the original Sin Cara who worked as Mistico in Mexico as the top star for many years. The original Sin Cara now works as Carístico for CMLL and New Japan Pro Wrestling during their Fantastica Mania tours. The original reported plan was that WWE was attempting to break a record. The company would hand out masks for the crowd to wear and to make it the biggest crowd in history (inside of a dome or Arena) to simultaneously be masked. These plans were quickly scrapped when Sin Cara did not become the ‘replacement’ to Rey Mysterio as WWE had hoped.
WWE has been looking for a Mexican star to essentially take up the mantle of Rey Mysterio for years. This could be WWE’s attempt to re-develop the newer version of Sin Cara, played by Hunico.
Sin Cara, who has been out of action following knee surgery back in August, was spotted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, according to a recent report by Pwinsider.com. He’s been working towards getting cleared to officially return to action. He was last seen when he lost to Andrade Cien Almas at the Extreme Rules PPV.

SmackDown Star Sin Cara has been away from WWE programming for a few months now due to an injury but it appears that he may be gearing up for a return now.
PWinsider is reporting that Sin Cara has been cleared to return to the ring by the medical staff and he has been spending time at Performance Center recently while preparing for his comeback.
Sin Cara lost in a match to Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas during the Extreme Rules PPV earlier this year and then in mid-August, it was reported that he has undergone a knee surgery.
Elias Mocks Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley’s return to the WWE hasn’t played out like many were expecting. There are people who believe that his persona has been lacking charisma and it appears Elias has heard this talk too.
Lashley recently took a shot at Elias saying that he will defeat him at the upcoming TLC PPV and replying to him, the NXT Star said that he has been trying to make Bobby relevant but at TLC he will put the Raw Star behind him:
You guys want a spoiler for #WWETLC?? 3 days from now, you’ll hear a guitar strum from @IAmEliasWWE, my music, a couple slams, & the referee count 1-2-3. Get used to it boys and girls. The #AllMighty is taking the next step to becoming the #UniversalChampion you can be proud of! pic.twitter.com/9oECxW7XO7
It’s a ladder match & it ends when I smash your dumb ass with a guitar. I’ve spent the better part of 2018 making you relevant & giving you every opportunity to have a personality. You’ve managed to fail at both. At TLC I put you behind me and ascend to space in 2019. https://t.co/H49dsImOGI
As we noted before, earlier there was talk of WWE converting Baron Corbin vs. Braun Strowman match into a multi-person fight but it appears that they are going with one on one bouts instead.
Sin Cara was spotted in Birmingham, Alabama a couple of days ago and it was later confirmed that the former NXT Star has undergone a surgery. According to WWE, Sin Cara underwent surgery on his right knee. Dr. Jeffrey Dugas performed the procedure.
Sin Cara underwent a medical evaluation last week after sensing something was wrong with his knee. It was discovered that scar tissue was causing his discomfort. He began physical rehabilitation less than 24 hours after going under the knife.

Sin Cara last wrestled in a one on one match during the SmackDown Live Event from Albany, Georgia on August 5th. The former NXT Star had scored a victory over Aiden English in this bout.
Prior to that, he was involved in a short-lived feud with the former NXT Champion Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas. Their rivalry ended when the two faced off in the Extreme Rules kick off show.
No word yet on how long Cara will be out of action or if the company has any plans for his return but we’ll keep you posted.
We reported yesterday that SmackDown Live star Sin Cara suffered an injury. PWInsider first reported the news. It was noted Cara said on his Instagram story he was on his way to visit Birmingham, Alabama to see a doctor.
Today on Twitter, Cara confirmed that he underwent surgery. The operation was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas on Tuesday. Check out Sin Cara’s Twitter post here:

Brock Lesnar has a big weekend ahead of him. The WWE Universal Champion will defend his title against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. All the action goes down live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on August 19th.
In the weeks leading up to the fight Lesnar has had issues with RAW General Manager Kurt Angle. Angle has continuously called Lesnar the worst WWE Champion of all time. “The Beast” hit Angle with an F5 on RAW several weeks ago.
Angle recently took to Twitter to issue out one final shot at Lesnar before SummerSlam. He said he hopes Roman Reigns “kicks Brock’s ass” in New York on Sunday. Here’s what the Olympic gold medalist had to say:
“Brock hardly ever shows up, nor does he defend the Universal Championship consistently. I Hope @WWERomanReigns kicks Brock’s ass this Sunday at SummerSlam. Then the Title will show up on Raw each week, the way it should.”

Another WWE Superstar has gone down with an injury. That star is Sin Cara.
On Monday, August 14, it was revealed by Mike Johnson of Pwinsider.com who reported that the SmackDown star mentioned on his Instagram Story that he has traveled to Birmingham, Alabama in order to see a doctor that indicates that he could be going under the knife in order to get surgery.
As of this writing, there’s no word yet on what the injury issue may be but he will be on the sidelines for a bit as a result.
Most recently, the company booked Cara to work with former NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas in a feud on the blue brand that kicked off on the May 30th episode of SmackDown Live only to be blown off once the stars took to the ring to compete in a match that went down on the Extreme Rules Kickoff show on July 15 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He has not competed since that match and hasn’t been seen on WWE television. Once we have more information on his injury, we will pass that along. We hope Sin Cara has a speedy recovery as he battles his way back from this injury.
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan gave some praise to NXT General Manager William Regal in a response to Regal’s initial tweet in which he said that he did not train Bryan and Brian Kendrick. Bryan wrote the following:
“To classify us as “great” in 2000 would be a generous overstatement. Rudy and Shawn provided excellent training for a beginner who wanted to learn, but I would have never had the success I did without your mentorship #fact.”
Bryan is slated to take on Big Cass in a singles match at the upcoming WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view event on Sunday, June 17, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois at the Allstate Arena.
Unhappy Sin Cara
As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Corpus Christi, TX at the American Bank Center on the USA Network, Sin Cara was brutally attacked backstage by Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas. Now, they will square off next week in a match on SmackDown. Sin Cara took to Twitter to give his thoughts on his former friend:
Better to have an enemy that slaps you in the face, than a friend that stabs you in the back! ?
I may wear a mask but you are the one ?? that is two faced! I didn’t lose a friend, I just realized I never had one! This is far from over Andrade! ?????#Enemigos ?? pic.twitter.com/v3nxAqUer5
Sin Cara has been medically cleared to compete after suffering an injury scare at a WWE live event from Spain earlier this week.
Sin Cara acknowledged the injury on Twitter, writing (translated):
“Due to an knee injury I could not participate today in #WWELisbon. Apologies to those who attended. I hope to see you again soon.”
“For those who say it’s only entertainment. We love this sport and we put ourselves at risk for it every day.”
According to f4wonline.com, Sin Cara got the green light from a WWE doctor earlier today and won’t miss any more ring time.

– The Superstars from WWE’s United Kingdom division will be appearing on this week’s 205 Live episode from Manchester, England. Stars advertised to appear are WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne, Mark Andrews, Jordan Devlin, Tucker, Tyler Bate, Joseph Conners and James Drake. As noted, this week’s RAW in Manchester saw Dunne make his RAW debut with a non-title win over WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore.
– Sin Cara took to Twitter and confirmed that he suffered a knee injury at Sunday’s WWE live event in Spain. He was pulled from Monday’s live event in Portugal due to the injury. WWE has not commented on the injury but they did re-tweet his comments. Sin Cara tweeted (translated),
“Due to an knee injury I could not participate today in #WWELisbon. Apologies to those who attended. I hope to see you again soon.”
“For those who say it’s only entertainment. We love this sport and we put ourselves at risk for it every day.”
Stay tuned for updates on Cara’s condition going into this week’s SmackDown.

– This week’s WWE RAW in Manchester, England saw Sheamus and Cesaro defeat Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to become three-time RAW Tag Team Champions. Below is video of The Bar talking to Mike Rome after the big win, which came after The New Day appeared in the crowd to distract everyone.
The Bar brags on beating The Hardys, The New Day and now The Shield. They now look ahead to their match against SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos. Cesaro says The Uso Penitentiary can’t hold them because they just don’t break bars, they are The Bar.
Sin Cara was injured at Sunday night’s WWE live event from Madrid, Spain.
During a triple threat match also involving United States Champion Baron Corbin and Sami Zayn, there was a a spot that involved Corbin charging at Sin Cara, who ducked down and grabbed the top rope, sending Corbin to the outside. Corbin stepped on Sin Cara’s right foot while going over the top rope and Sin Cara’s ankle appeared buckle. Sin Cara was visibly in pain and had to be helped to the back after the match.
SmackDown Live star Sin Cara has signed a new multi-year contract with WWE, according to a report by PWInsider.
The Sin Cara character first appeared on WWE television back in 2011. He’s a former NXT Tag Team Champion along with Kalisto, when they competed as the Lucha Dragons.
Sin Cara has been featured more prominently on television lately, picking up consecutive wins over United States Champion Baron Corbin over the past two weeks.
Earlier this month, Footlocker announced that Sin Cara was getting his own Reebok sneaker as part of WWE’s collaboration with designer Alexander John.
Sin Cara recently spoke with Sports Illustrated to talk about various topics. Here are the highlights:
Reason WWE Superstars dislike Enzo Amore:
“To be honest, I’m not sure, exactly, what is going on. Maybe they’re thinking he hasn’t gone through enough to have the successes he’s having, but who am I to judge? All I can say is about myself. The only thing I can say is I wish him the best. Hopefully, that helps his career and makes him better, not just with his promos, but his in-ring work, too.”
Rumors that he had issues with Chris Jericho earlier this year: “Me and Jericho are good friends. He actually asked me if he could borrow one of my masks for that segment, and I said that it would be an honor. There is no heat between him and I. Nowadays, with social media, there are always a lot of rumors, but we are fine. That’s why I let him borrow my mask. If that wasn’t the case, I would have said no.”
WWE Superstar Sin Cara recently did an interview with Hidden Remote to talk about a variety of professional wrestling topics. Cara was asked if he believes there’s any Latino stars who can fill Eddie Guerrero’s shoes, WWE expanding their partnerships with sneaker companies, and his brief work in the Cruiserweight division. You can check out the highlights here below:
If any Latino stars can fill Eddie Guerrero’s shoes:
“I don’t think, to be honest, that’s a question anyone can really answer. I can’t compare myself to Eddie or that I’m going to fill anyone’s shoes. I’m Sin Cara, I’m unique, I’m different from everybody else. Kalisto’s different. I think we’re just trying to make our own history here in the company, and for me, the most important thing is keeping myself healthy and keeping my legacy going and hopefully one day when my career’s over, I can say I also had a great career, but nobody can replace Eddie.”
WWE expanding their partnerships with sneaker companies such as Foot Locker:
“I think there’s a lot of sneaker lovers and some people that don’t know about wrestling that are going to end up knowing who Sin Cara is or who Ric Flair is or who other Superstars are because it won’t be the typical going to WWEShop.com or going to a wrestling show to buy a wrestling shirt. You’re going to see it at a Foot Locker and maybe the fan that’s not the normal fan for us is going to have the opportunity to buy a t-shirt even if they don’t know about wrestling but if he likes it, he’s going to buy it and wear it. That’s the great opportunity here to get to a different type of market.”
His brief work in the Cruiserweight division:
“To be honest, I was trying to make the most of my opportunity, but in my case, I was only there for a couple of weeks. I wasn’t really there for long. I think the Cruiserweights are great athletes and talented wrestlers, but in my case, I think I’m too big for the division. Not weight-wise because I weigh like 198, but height-wise I’m a lot bigger. I’m about 5 ’10” and I put on the boots and I’m 6?. But it’s one of those things where they want a certain type of wrestler in the division and that’s fine. I didn’t think it was a bad decision by the company not using me there but now there’s a lot of opportunities for the all the kids that are doing that. Kalisto just transitioned into 205 [Live] and I wish him the best and hopefully that division can flourish now.”
