Tiffany Stratton Signs Contract With WWE SmackDown Brand

Tiffany Stratton made a lot of noise in the #29 spot during the 2024 Royal Rumble event. Now, she is on the SmackDown brand.

Tiffany Stratton is SmackDown

During the February 2nd episode of WWE SmackDown, they made two big announcements in one backstage segment. Naomi came out of an office with a freshly signed SmackDown contract, but she was not alone.

Tiffany Stratton came out next, with a SmackDown contract as well. She declared that she is now on the main roster, and the blue brand is her home.

Rumors About Tiffany Stratton’s Main Roster Call-Up

Rumors were circulating backstage at Monday’s Raw about Tiffany Stratton’s standout performance in the Royal Rumble match, sparking discussions about her potential move to the red brand, according to PW Insider.

It is interesting that Stratton is on SmackDown now, because putting her on RAW would align with WWE’s tendency to keep real-life couples on the same brand, as Stratton is in a relationship with Ludwig Kaiser.

Who Is Tiffany Stratton

Tiffany Stratton joined WWE in 2021 after being trained by Greg Gagne. She held the NXT Women’s Championship for 107 days until her reign concluded with a loss to Becky Lynch at NXT Battleground 2023.

In early January, Stratton wrapped up a feud with Fallon Henley in a unique “ranch hand or servant for a day” match at New Year’s Evil, resulting in noteworthy vignettes showcasing Stratton’s humorous struggles while assisting on the ranch.

Now that Stratton is on the main roster, it appears that she won’t waste any time.

WWE Higher-Ups See WrestleMania Main Event In Top NXT Superstar’s Future

WWE has several soon-to-be big deals in NXT, and a few of them are ready for their spotlight right now. Although it may not be Trick Williams’ time yet, they are preparing him for big things internally.

Trick Williams Has Eyes On Him

Haus of Wrestling reports that the WWE SmackDown creative team was highly impressed with the crowd’s reaction to Trick Williams. Some influential figures within the company now believe that Williams possesses “future WrestleMania main eventer potential.”

One top WWE talent reportedly said that Trick has a “great attitude and skill set that he’s cultivating.” They are seeing a future with some positive outcomes for him.

Williams is set for significant momentum this week with two crucial matches. He teamed up with Carmelo Hayes in a Dusty Rhodes Classic semi-final match against the LWO this week on NXT. After winning, it was determined that the two will advance to the finals this Sunday at Vengeance Day, where they will face Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker.

Trick Williams’ Big SmackDown Reaction

This past Friday on WWE SmackDown, WWE NXT star Carmelo Hayes faced off against Austin Theory. The two men had a previous encounter a few weeks ago, but it was cut short due to a botched Avalanche Spanish Fly that worried a lot of people.

In their rematch, Austin Theory secured the win with the help of distractions from Grayson Waller and a roll-up involving a handful of tights. Following the victory, Waller and Theory initiated a beatdown on Hayes, prompting WWE NXT Star Trick Williams to make a save amid the crowd’s enthusiastic chants of “Whoop That Trick!” WWE higher-ups certainly noticed that reaction for Trick.

Kevin Patrick’s Replacement On WWE SmackDown Announce Team Revealed

WWE made a big change to the SmackDown announce team when they took Kevin Patrick off of his duties. It was confirmed a short time later that Patrick has been released from the company, but they still needed to figure out a replacement.

Kevin Patrick’s Replacement on WWE SmackDown

I was the first to report that Kevin Patrick was moved off SmackDown. Now, we know who will replace him on the blue brand’s desk.

According to PW Insider, Wade Barrett has been moved over to SmackDown to replace Kevin Patrick. The new SmackDown announce team will be Corey Graves and Barrett.

The future broadcast team for WWE SmackDown involves Wade Barrett and Corey Graves. Graves is set to take on the lead announce position, while Barrett will continue in his role as a color commentator.

The reason given to me for Kevin Patrick’s removal was that it just wasn’t working out. Now, Barrett is taking that role for him.

WWE RAW’s New Announce Team

Pat McAfee was revealed as the new full-time announcer on RAW. He will sit alongside Michael Cole every Monday night to call the action in the ring. That helped facilitate this change for Barrett’s blue brand move.

Wade Barrett’s Career In WWE

Wade Barrett’s real name is Stu Bennett, which he has used for several projects outside WWE. He had a notable career in WWE as a Superstar as well.

He joined the company in 2007 as part of the developmental system, Florida Championship Wrestling, and he rose to prominence in the first season of NXT, as he won the competition.

Barrett later led the group known as The Nexus, making a significant impact in storylines. Throughout his WWE tenure, he engaged in various feuds and alliances, including commentator and an authority figure role.

After leaving WWE in 2016, Barrett pursued other ventures, contributing to his diverse career in the wrestling industry. He eventually returned to WWE in 2022, where he was placed on the NXT announce team. He was later placed on main roster commentary, and that is where we find ourselves today.

Watch: What Happened With Drew McIntyre After SmackDown Went Off Air

WWE presented the Royal Rumble go-home edition of SmackDown from the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida tonight with the final build for the PLE tomorrow.

The show opened with a confrontation between Randy Orton, AJ Styles and LA Knight before they all challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed title in a Fatal Four-way match on Saturday. This segment ended with Knight retreating while AJ caught Orton with a Pele Kick.

The show also included a face-off between The Pride and The Final Testament and a Women’s Tag Team Championship match where The Kabuki Warriors defeated Kayden Carter and Katana Chance to capture the gold.

What Happened After SmackDown

The main event of SmackDown saw LA Knight taking on Solo Sikoa in a singles match. Though the bout ended in a double disqualification after AJ Styles came out of nowhere and delivered a Phenomenal Forearm to Knight.

The whole thing quickly turned into a brawl with Jimmy Uso and Randy Orton also joining in on the fight. Randy Orton hit an RKO to Styles after taking out both Bloodline members. LA Knight then delivered a BFT to The Viper and the Megastar stood tall in the ring to end the broadcast.

Though Orton remained in the arena for quite a while after the show went off air and greeted the fans for as long as he could.

That wasn’t all as fans also got to see Drew McIntyre in action after SmackDown. McIntyre faced The Miz in a singles match. The stars delivered an entertaining match for the crowd before the Scottish Warrior picked up the victory with the Claymore Kick.

WWE Working To Introduce Stronger Realism In Their Television Product

WWE saw a ton of changes in 2023, and 2024 has already been a banner year for adjustments, and we’re not even out of January yet. The company is taking extra care and focusing on some of the little things to pull everything together.

Latest Changes To WWE Programming

WWE is a scripted program, but they also realize that realism is important to really connect with today’s fan base. It appears that they are paying attention to some smaller details now to help boost that illusion.

PW Insider noted that WWE is taking extra measures to make their programming come off as realistic. They are taking a “sports-centric” approach to elements on television now, and fans can already spot those signs if they know what to look for.

We are told that the talk at Raw yesterday and at WWE HQ today is that the company will be incorporating some sports-centric elements into the programming. Cody Rhodes being interviewed on Raw “earlier today” complete with the clock listing the time was an example given of trying to root the product in stronger realism. We are told that interviews will reflect this as well.

Changes For WWE Programming

Two notable segments have captured attention on recent episodes of WWE Raw and SmackDown. One highlighted Chelsea Green and Piper Niven at a club, engaging with Kayden Carter and Katana Chance. The other, featured on SmackDown, brought focus to the dynamic between Butch/Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate, as they met in a coffee house setting.

As we previously noted, both of those segments were credited to the fact that long-time WWE Executive Producer Kevin Dunn departed from the company. Now, WWE is trying out different things, and under Lee Fitting and Endeavor’s new vision, they are doing just that.

WWE Removes Kevin Patrick From SmackDown Announce Team

WWE’s commentary team has a very important job to make sure the action is called in the ring. It is also a difficult assignment, because fans can be very critical of the people in those roles. Although Kevin Patrick gave his all, fans didn’t seem to connect with the Irish announcer as much, and now he has lost his spot on television.

Kevin Patrick Is Gone From SmackDown (Exclusive)

Kevin Patrick was on Raw from October 2022 before transitioning to Smackdown in 2023. Now, he is no longer on the blue brand. I reported last night that Patrick was removed from SmackDown.

A tenured member of the WWE team contacted me during RAW this week. They had a very interesting note about a change for the company’s other main roster show. After some digging, I was able to confirm this change.

While a permanent replacement hasn’t been determined yet, the reason given is that it just wasn’t working out. Now, Patrick is off the blue brand.

SmackDown set for a change.

Kevin Patrick is out.

No replacement named yet.

Reason I was given: “It just wasn’t working out.”

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed my previous report. Kevin Patrick is gone from his SmackDown gig, but a replacement has not been determined yet. It was also noted that this move wasn’t a big surprise.

“Kevin Patrick’s gone, unless something changes. I don’t know details. I don’t know who’s gonna be replacing him. I’m not surprised.”

Who is Kevin Patrick?

Kevin is from Raheny in North Dublin, and he pursued journalism studies at Griffith College Dublin. In 2004, he worked as a runner for RTÉ Sport during the Summer Olympics.

After making the move to the United States in 2009. he worked for CNN and served as the commentator for Atlanta United home games on Apple TV+. Then he got his break in WWE in 2021.

What’s Next

Although Kevin Patrick is no longer with the SmackDown brand, I have not been able to confirm whether he is still with WWE. I was additionally told, “Nothing is 100 percent. People get fired and hired back the next day.”

We will have to see what is next for Kevin Patrick in WWE, but he is not a voice on SmackDown anymore. Corey Graves is still on the show as color commentator, but they will need a new play-by-play voice.

New WWE Segment Concepts Credited To Kevin Dunn’s Exit

WWE saw a lot of changes in 2023, as the company merged with the UFC under Endeavor’s new TKO Group Holdings. Now in 2024, the company’s production is on the verge of breaking out some new ideas for the company.

WWE Programming Changing After Kevin Dunn’s Exit

Kevin Dunn’s era in WWE is over, and many fans are paying close attention to what the company puts on television. Some observant fans noticed two distinctive segments that didn’t seem to fit the norm that Dunn established for decades.

Two segments have stood out from WWE Raw and SmackDown in recent memory. One featured Chelsea Green and Piper Niven at a club, confronting Kayden Carter and Katana Chance. The other, showcased on Smackdown, puts the spotlight on Butch/Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate.

Sean Ross Sapp noted on Fightful Select that fans making comparisons to NXT would be accurate to do so. Triple H let Jeremy Borash make up a team in NXT, one that was off Kevin Dunn’s radar of influence. Now that Dunn is gone, they can do a lot more that he would previously nix.

We’re told that Triple H allowed Jeremy Borash to put together a team in NXT for the past three years, where it would be safely under Kevin Dunn’s radar. Triple H was said to have been happy with how they played out, and with Dunn’s departure, there is a door open to feature that style of promos across all WWE shows.

We’ve spoken to several people associated with helping put together the promos that spoke highly of the new process and the freedom to to them. One source noted that under Dunn, the segment would have likely cut away to several different things, but the new method was to let the characters breathe, and the segment to play out.

WWE After Kevin Dunn’s Exit

It seems that the people making these promos are having a good time. It was also noted that both segments received positive internal feedback.

Lee Fitting took over for Kevin Dunn upon his exit from the company. Many were shocked to see Dunn finally leave, but it came after Vince McMahon’s retirement, as Dunn was Mr. McMahon’s right-hand man in production.

Austin Theory May Have Entered Medical Protocol After Scary Botched Spot On WWE SmackDown

WWE Superstars are professionals, but they aren’t perfect. Austin Theory and Carmelo Hayes’ match on SmackDown last week ended suddenly, but thankfully, they are both okay now.

Carmelo Hayes & Austin Theory’s Scary Botched Spot

On the January 12th episode of WWE SmackDown, the match featuring Austin Theory and Carmelo Hayes was halted by the referee due to an incident during an Avalanche Spanish Fly from the top turnbuckle that resulted in both wrestlers landing awkwardly.

The referee, signaling the “X” position to indicate a potential injury, decided to wave off the match. Reports indicated that facial contusions were sustained by both wrestlers as a consequence of the spot.

Bryan Alvarez shared an update on Wrestling Observer Radio, suggesting that Austin Theory entered medical protocol, hinting at a potentially more significant impact from the incident.

Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown

Carmelo Hayes previously made his SmackDown debut towards the end of the preceding year, participating in the WWE United States Championship No.1 Contenders Tournament.

His return to the blue brand occurred in a backstage segment, discussing Royal Rumble chances with SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, leading to a confrontation with Austin Theory and Grayson Waller and ultimately setting up the match between Hayes and Theory later in the show.

Hayes is currently booked with Trick Williams in a team as they take on the 2024 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. That storyline is getting a big spotlight in NXT, as it should.

Exclusive Insight On Austin Theory & Carmelo Hayes’ Botched Spot

I was told by a tenured member of the WWE team that the referee was actually concerned about both Theory and Hayes after that botches spot. It was not one more than the other.

I was further told that the “referee thought they were both hurt and did the proper protocol by calling for the bell and calling for the doctor.”

WWE’s commentary team also praised the referee in this instance for his quick decision-making, as they put an emphasis on keeping Superstar safety at the forefront.

What Happened With Drew McIntyre After SmackDown Went Off Air

WWE Raw star Drew McIntyre made a surprise appearance on this week’s episode of SmackDown and picked up an impressive victory after the show went off the air.

The first SmackDown of 2024 was an eventful show with a number of big developments. This included Kevin Owens defeating Santos Escobar to become the #1 contender for Logan Paul’s US title.

The main event of the show was a triple threat match among AJ Styles, Randy Orton and LA Knight to determine the #1 contender for Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble.

All three of these men were committed to earning a shot at the glory of defeating The Tribal Chief. The very physical match between them even led to Knight getting busted open the hard way during a spot.

What Happened After SmackDown

The match however ended without a winner when The Bloodline attacked all three participants. Nick Aldis then revealed that Reigns will now have to face all three of these competitors in a fatal four way at the upcoming PLE.

The broadcast ended with The Bloodline standing tall in the ring but the night was far from over. Fans got to see not one but three dark matches after this bout.

The first two dark matches after the show ended saw Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley picking respective victories over Chelsea Green and Ivy Nile.

The third and final dark match was between Drew McIntyre and Ricochet. The One and Only showed some impressive moves but McIntyre ended up picking the victory after delivering Claymore.

AOP Returns to WWE, Forms new faction with Karrion Kross

WWE brought New Year’s Revolution for fans on SmackDown on January 5th. The show also marked the return of a pair of former Tag Team Champions.

AOP Returns To WWE

During WWE SmackDown this week, Akam and Rezar made their long-awaited return to WWE television. This went down in Vancouver, and fans were very excited to witness WWE history first-hand.

The Authors of Pain were paired up with Karrion Kross and Scarlett. They will battle Bobby Lashley and the Street Profit’s new trio to start things out for themselves in the WWE landscape once again.

AOP made their return during SmackDown, as they interrupted a promo from Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits. After revealing Paul Ellering on the entrance ramp, Akam and Rezar laid waste to Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits. Karrion Kross then joined them in the ring to finish Lashley off.

The segment concluded with Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits laid out in the middle of the ring. Karrion Kross and the newly returned AOP stood tall.

Who are AOP?

Authors of Pain achieved the WWE NXT Tag Team Championship once, and also secured the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship on one occasion. Additionally, they clinched the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2016.

Hints About AOP’s WWE Return

Hints about the Authors of Pain’s return to WWE have been impossible to avoid at this point. Akam and Rezar were teased to join Karrion Kross.

AOP’s return is a long time coming, as rumors of their comeback have been going around for a while. Now they are back on WWE television, so Triple H can book them in his vision.

Programming Note About Special Best-Of SmackDown On December 29th

WWE is closing out 2023 with a special episode of SmackDown. The December 29th episode will be a recap of the greatest moments of the year, and now we have more details.

WWE SmackDown December 29th Plans

WWE SmackDown won’t air live on December 29th, opting for a special show instead. Despite the non-live format, FOX will deliver a two-hour broadcast filled with highlights. This week’s episode is dedicated to the Best of 2023, providing fans with a retrospective look.

TV Guide shared a preview of the episode, promising a special night revisiting the standout moments of 2023. No live matches will be featured on the show, but the two-hour show will be full of big moments.

Hosts Jackie Redmond and Corey Graves relive the absolute best matches and moments from 2023, featuring John Cena, Logan Paul, and the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Hosts Jackie Redmond and Corey Graves will guide viewers through the year’s best matches and highlights, featuring notable figures like John Cena, Logan Paul, and the reigning WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

WWE Best of 2023

WWE SmackDown in 2023 saw big stories on the blue brand, including the dominance of the Bloodline. It will be interesting to see what they include in the upcoming best-of episode, because you could fill a full show with just highlights of Roman Reigns and his stable.

WWE SmackDown in 2024

Looking ahead, SmackDown’s New Year’s Revolution special will mark its return to live television on January 5th, 2024, at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. That episode is already loaded with matches, and you may find that card below.

WWE SmackDown January 5th New Year’s Revolution Card:

  • Santos Escobar vs. Kevin Owens – Tournament final to determine the #1 contender for the WWE United States Championship at Royal Rumble
  • Butch and TBA vs. Pretty Deadly
  • Iyo Sky (c) vs. “Michin” Mia Yim – WWE Women’s Championship
  • Randy Orton vs AJ Styles vs LA Knight – Triple threat match to determine the #1 contender to the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Royal Rumble

(Possible Spoiler): WWE’s Current Strategy For AJ Styles’ Booking On SmackDown

AJ Styles made his return to WWE during the December 15th episode of WWE SmackDown. This was a big surprise to close out the show. That being said, we must include a spoiler warning for this article, because it could reveal WWE’s plans for the Phenomenal One.

Fightful Select reports, based on internal WWE sources to Fightful’s Corey Brennan, that it might not be a full-fledged heel turn for AJ Styles. This seems to stray from the impression he gave after laying out LA Knight on SmackDown last week.

Based on internal WWE sources to Fightful’s Corey Brennan, it might not be a full-fledged heel turn.

It is reported that “the direction is for Styles to be somewhat justified in his attack of LA Knight.” Another source reportedly told Fightful that “it’s a bit of a ‘choose your own adventure situation with Styles.”

It will be interesting to see if plans for AJ Styles changes along the way. AJ Styles is versatile, so he can play babyface and heel characters. It all depends on how they need to utilize the former World Champion.

During the December 22nd episode of WWE SmackDown, which was pre-taped, AJ Styles is scheduled for an in-ring promo and a match against Solo Sikoa.

Spoiler On WWE’s Working Plan For Former Tag Team Champions’ Return

WWE signed a long list of talent after Triple H took over the creative reins of the company. While some of them returned with great fanfare, one pair of signings haven’t been seen yet, but things are expected to change for AOP soon enough.

WWE’s Plan For AOP’s Return

Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that word is that AOP is making their return to WWE television sooner than later. It was also specifically noted that their home is expected to be on the SmackDown brand.

Fightful Select has learned that the Authors of Pain aka AOP are planned for a return to WWE TV soon. Specifically, we’re told that the working plan for them as of now is for them to appear on the Smackdown brand, though that could always change.

Akam and Rezar were spotted at the WWE Performance Center in August 2022 as well. Hopefully, fans will see them again soon.

The report from Sean Ross Sapp also confirmed that, “Paul Ellering has been expected to join the two, which had long been an important factor to them.”

Insight Into AOP’s WWE Return

I was told that AOP was signed in late 2022, but they never debuted. I was also able to confirm reports about Paul Ellering’s involvement a long time ago. He was also involved in talks to bring them back.

AOP was around the WWE Performance Center last year, and they were even backstage during NXT one week. That didn’t translate into their return, but they apparently inked deals.

There have been rumors about their on-screen return for a while now. It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see them return as a big surprise to create the biggest moment possible.

AOP burst onto the WWE scene with an impactful debut in 2016. Hailing from the world of mixed martial arts, they quickly made a name for themselves with their powerful and dominating presence in the ring. They were also a favorite of Triple H’s NXT during their time, and now Triple H will apparently get a chance to book them on the main roster.

Spoiler On Long-Awaited Return Expected For 12/15 WWE SmackDown

WWE is set for SmackDown in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and that episode could include a big return. This is your official spoiler warning, because this article is full of them.

Spoiler for 12/15 WWE SmackDown

PW Insider reports that, “AJ Styles is expected to return tonight at Friday Night Smackdown,” This return has been a long time coming.

AJ Styles has been out of action as he sold a beatdown from Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. At the time, Styles was set to be John Cena’s tag team partner at Fastlane against the Bloodline, but then LA Knight took Styles’ spot.

It was further noted that, “AJ Styles had initially been planned for a return several weeks back, but WWE decided to hold off on the return.” It is reported that this week is more of a sure thing, as Styles will return to the road for WWE.

Status Of The OC In WWE

AJ Styles’ OC stablemates, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, returned to the ring several weeks ago, but they have only worked live events. Their television hiatus may end with Styles’ return

Fans can probably expect AJ Styles’ return to WWE SmackDown during the December 15th episode. With the Royal Rumble coming up on January 27th, that event will mark 8 years since he shocked the word by finally landing in WWE after a career outside the company.

Exclusive Insight into AJ Styles’ WWE Return

I was told on several occasions over the past 30 days that AJ Styles is set to return “imminently.” This is something that they have held back on for some reason, but it appears the Phenomenal One will be joining the company to close out 2023.

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown will also be a double taping. So, AJ Styles can get two weeks’ worth of tapings out of the way on one night to really jumpstart his comeback.

What Happened With Gunther After SmackDown Tribute To The Troops

This week’s SmackDown was an episode to send the Ruthless Aggression era fans a trip down memory lane, as it featured names such as Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton and CM Punk.

WWE also confirmed the brackets for the announced US Championship #1 contender tournament during the night as the competition kicked off.

The show opened with a first-round match that saw Santos Escobar defeating Dragon Lee. The second tournament match of the night then featured Bobby Lashley who beat Karrion Kross.

CM Punk’s announced appearance on the show gave fans a lot to talk about. The Straight Edge Star cut a promo, making references to Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and the Brawl Out incident that eventually led to his AEW departure.

What Happened After SmackDown

In the main event of the show, Randy Orton teamed up with LA Knight against the common adversary in The Bloodline. Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa represented The Bloodline in the match but they couldn’t get the win.

Orton picked up the victory by delivering an RKO to Jimmy Uso. The broadcast ended with Randy Orton holding up the hand of LA Knight as the pair stood tall.

This wasn’t the end of action however, as fans got to see a rematch between Gunther and Chad Gable after SmackDown went off air. The two arch-rivals put on another great match reminding people of their previous encounters. The bout, however, ended in a disqualification with Gable picking up the victory.

The second dark match of the night saw Cody Rhodes once again taking on Dominik Mysterio. Cody cut a promo after winning the match and he then gave away another table to end the show.

Surprising Name Spotted Backstage At 12/8 WWE SmackDown

WWE is on the long road to the Royal Rumble on January 27th, and you never know who may show up. Fans might see a familiar face on SmackDown this week, because a WWE Hall of Famer is around who has been known to mix things up.

A former WWE Champion is present backstage at today’s WWE Smackdown in Providence, Rhode Island. It was reported on Fightful Select that Corey Brennan has learned that former WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield is at the show.

As of this writing, “It’s unclear as of now whether or not he’ll appear on-screen.” JBL hasn’t been around the WWE main roster in a while, but you never know if he could start a new run with the company. Even if he’s just around to visit, JBL is always welcome backstage in WWE.

JBL was paired up with Baron Corbin earlier this year, and they had a nice run as a duo. As much as he tried, JBL wasn’t able to make a champion out of Corbin. That partnership ended, and JBL really rubbed salt in the wound upon his exit.

JBL last appeared on WWE programming on November 21, announcing the qualifiers for the Iron Survivor Challenge for NXT Deadline. That was a nice treat to see JBL on NXT television. Lita, Mick Foley and Jerry Lawler also appeared in those segments to announce Iron Survivor Challenge qualifier matches.

We will have to see if JBL shows up on WWE SmackDown this week. We will have coverage of the show, here at SE Scoops

What’s your take on JBL showing up backstage at SmackDown this week? Do you want to see more from him on WWE programming? Let us know what you think in the comments section!

All In Pay-Per-View Referenced on Latest WWE SmackDown on FOX

The 2018 All In wrestling supershow was referenced during this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown on FOX.

In September of that year, stars of various promotions came together to host the event, billed as “the biggest independent wrestling show ever.”

After showing that there was support for a non-WWE product, many of the names associated with All In would go on to be part of All Elite Wrestling, which launched in January 2019.

SmackDown

One significant name who was part of All In is Cody Rhodes, who made an appearance on this week’s edition of the blue brand.

Speaking about his upcoming WrestleMania match, Rhodes said there are those who think toppling Roman Reigns is an impossible goal, but he has a history of defying the odds.

The American Nightmare said that there were people who believed he would never be more than Randy Orton’s lackey, referring to his days in Legacy.

Rhodes added that there were some who thought that All In would be possible, saying:

“There’s no way 10,000 people would pay to see my buddy’s little indie show.”

Cody Rhodes.

At the September 2018 event, Rhodes would defeat Nick Aldis to capture the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

The event began after Dave Meltzer dismissed the idea that any event other than a WWE show could sell 10,000 tickets, a statement that Rhodes accepted as a challenge.

Reigns Response

Rhodes, as predicted, was very passionate with his promo, but the Tribal Chief had some barbs of his own.

Speaking about being trained by Cody’s father Dusty Rhodes, Reigns bust-out an impressive impression of the American Dream, who told Reigns in developmental that he had ‘it.’

The two men shook hands without coming to blows and agreed that the better man will win next month at WrestleMania 39.

Watch: What Happened With Cody Rhodes After SmackDown Went Off Air

Cody Rhodes made an appearance on this week’s episode of SmackDown to confront Roman Reigns. He also put on his 33-match undefeated streak on the line after the show went off air.

The opening segment of this week’s SmackDown saw The American Nightmare confronting The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. The two had a heated exchange that got personal.

The WrestleMania opponents, however, avoided a fight before their upcoming big match. The segment ended with both the stars shaking hands.

The main event of the show saw Sami Zayn competing in a bout against Solo Sikoa. Though this wasn’t the last match of the night and WWE presented two dark matches after SmackDown went off air.

What Happened After SmackDown

The first dark match after the show featured Charlotte Flair in action. The SmackDown Women’s Champion put her title on the line against Sonya Deville.

The second dark match then saw Cody Rhodes, who has been undefeated since his return last year facing Finn Balor in a singles match.

The former AEW star went on to win the match against the Judgement Day Leader. Rhodes cut a promo after the bout and said that he hopes to leave WrestleMania as the Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Watch: Uncle Howdy Gets Physical On SmackDown

Uncle Howdy has remained an ominous figure who lurks around but never gets his own hands dirty ever since his introduction to WWE TV, but this changed on tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

Bray Wyatt called out the winner of the Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar match at Elimination Chamber before the PPV last month. The bout, however, ended in a disqualification after The Beast Incarnate delivered a low blow to his opponent.

Later reports revealed that Lesnar has declined a WrestleMania match with The Fiend. Wyatt then started targeting the All Mighty in various segments.

Bobby Lashley made a trip to SmackDown this week in response to Bray’s tricks. He called out the former Universal Champion for a confrontation.

Uncle Howdy In Action

While Bray was nowhere to be seen, Uncle Howdy did make an appearance. He first showed up in a video on the Titan Tron.

The mysterious character then attacked Lashley from behind, marking it the first time he has gotten physical with an opponent.

Though Bobby Lashley did not stay down for long. As Howdy ran the ropes, Lashley planted him and set him up for a spear. However, lights then went out and when they came back on, Bobby was left alone in the ring.

WWE has not made the match between the former WWE Champion and The Eater of Worlds official yet but all signs indicate that they will meet at the Show of Shows this year.

WWE SmackDown Results (3/3): Cody Rhodes Confronts Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn Escapes The Bloodline’s Attack, More

WWE‘s latest edition of SmackDown went down on (3/3/23) from the Capital One Center in Washington D.C.! Cody Rhodes confronted Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns ahead of their WrestleMania 39 main event and Sami Zayn once again escaped the clutches of The Bloodline!

Live Coverage

Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and The Bloodline Confrontation

The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns makes his way down to the ring to kick off tonight’s show. The champion is flanked by Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman. Cody Rhodes then makes his way down to the ring. Cody says he’s not here to fight, he’s here to talk to Reigns and says that he doesn’t think there’s any reason for the rest of The Bloodline to be out here. Reigns tells Jimmy, Solo, and Heyman to leave, which they reluctantly do. Roman asks Cody if he’s more comfortable now and he drops his titles before asking Cody, ‘what do you wanna talk about?’. Cody says Roman has been the champion for over 900 days and while it seems like an impossible task to defeat Roman, he’s (Cody) made career on doing the impossible. Roman says what Cody’s done is impressive but asks ‘The American Nightmare’ if he’s ever headlined WrestleMania or won the WWE Title before. Roman said Cody’s father, Dusty Rhodes prepared him (Roman) for where he is today and even remembers Dusty telling him that he’ll headline WrestleMania and win the WWE Title one day.

Roman says Cody isn’t the only one who misses Dusty and says that he wishes Dusty was here to see their WrestleMania main event. Roman says if Dusty didn’t teach Cody something, he’d be more than happy to school him (Cody). Roman tries to shake Cody’s hand and Cody says their WrestleMania match is a necessity and the only way he (Cody) can exist, is if he beats Roman Reigns and become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania 39. Cody tells Roman that the better man will win at WrestleMania and he (Cody) finally shakes Roman’s hand. Cody’s music hits and Roman exits as the crowd sings along with Cody’s theme song.

We then see Rhea Ripley, alongside Dominik Mysterio walking through the backstage area and Rhea will face Liv Morgan after the break.

Dominik Mysterio (with Rhea Ripley) def. Santos Escobar

Drew McIntyre makes his way down to the ring. McIntyre wastes no time and calls out the Intercontinental Champion Gunther. However, Sheamus’ music hits and out comes the leader of the Brawling Brutes. Sheamus asks McIntyre why he’s calling out Gunther since he knows how much the Intercontinental Title means to him (Sheamus). McIntyre says Sheamus isn’t his father and doesn’t need his permission to call out anyone that he wants. Sheamus calls McIntyre a ‘backstabbing b*tch’ and McIntyre says if Sheamus doesn’t like the call out, he shouldn’t have lost to Gunther not once, but twice. LA Knight’s music hits and Knight says if you’re talking about the Intercontinental Title, you’re basically talking about him…’YEAH!’. Knight says you can’t have WrestleMania in Los Angeles without him.

The New Day’s music hits and out comes Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. The former multi-time tag champions say this whole ordeal is sad and Knight needs to worry about winning a match before he’s concerned with any titles. Karrion Kross and Scarlett then interrupt and Knight attacks New Day from behind. Sheamus joins the fray, as does McIntyre, and Kross wallops Sheamus to end the brawl and we head to a commercial break.

Back from the break and we see a pre-taped segment of Shayna Baszler and Tegan Nox attacking one another backstage before the show and Ronda Rousey helped Shayna take out Tegan.

We then had back to the arena and Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey make their way down to the ring and Shayna Baszler will face Tegan Nox after the break.

Shayna Baszler (with Ronda Rousey) def. Tegan Nox (with Natalya)

We then see Adam Pearce backstage with the Intercontinental Champion Gunther, who’s with his Imperium stablemates Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci. Gunther tells Pearce that he’s a waste of an official because he’s yet to book any of the three of them in a match for WrestleMania 39.

Back to the arena and Bobby Lashley is making his way down to the ring and we’ll hear from Lashley after the break.

Back from the break and Bobby Lashley says that he’s tried to call out Bray Wyatt but since he refuses to show his face on Monday Night RAW, he decided to come do it himself on Bray’s show, SmackDown. Uncle Howdy’s music hits and Howdy pops up behind Lashley and attacks the former WWE Champion. Lashley fights back and lines Howdy up for a spear but the lights go out and when they come back up, Howdy is gone. Bray Wyatt’s logo pops up on the screen and we head to a commercial break.

Backstage, we see Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman. Roman asks Jimmy if he’s spoken to his brother, Jey, and Jimmy says he has. Jimmy tells Roman that Jey told him that he needs more time…then reveals that Jey actually told him (Jimmy) to tell Roman to ‘leave him the hell alone.’ Roman said he doesn’t understand why Jey has been acting like this but he knows it started when Sami Zayn started to come around The Bloodline. Roman says if Jey doesn’t show up next week and re-join The Bloodline, he’ll stop blaming Sami Zayn and start blaming Jimmy Uso.

Solo Sikoa (with Jimmy Uso) def. Sami Zayn

After the match, Solo and Jey continue their attack on Sami but Sami fights back and breaks free as the show goes off-the-air!

Cody Rhodes Going to SmackDown for Roman Reigns

Ever since Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns has been dodging him. Although he’s acknowledged him in a promo, Reigns has sent “The Wise Man” Paul Heyman on his behalf.

Rhodes has even said he was open to the possibility of adding Sami Zayn to their match at WrestleMania 39. However, WWE has reportedly been concerned about Zayn being so over with the fans and that it might hurt Rhodes leading into his match with Reigns.

After defeating Chad Gable, Rhodes looked in the camera to address Reigns directly.

“He is on SmackDown this Friday and I am ecstatic that Roman Reigns is on SmackDown this Friday because I’ll be there too.”

WWE is promoting Rhodes as “being in the same building” as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Do you think Reigns and Rhodes will actually come face to face on Friday? Or do you think Heyman will prevent it?

Moss and Vinci start this one off. Moss plants Vinci with a slam and makes the tag to Ricochet, who nails Vinci with a standing moonsault and goes for the cover but Vinci kicks out. Strowman wants a tag but Vinci clocks Ricochet with a massive lariat to avoid the tag and he makes a tag of his own to Kaiser. The former NXT Tag Team Champions double-team Ricochet and Kaiser shoves Ricochet face-first into the mat after bouncing off the middle rope. Imperium seclude Ricochet in their corner, Kaiser dumps Ricochet to the outside, Vinci distracts the referee, and Gunther wallops Ricochet with a back-body drop onto the apron as we head to a commercial break. Back from the break and Kaiser is working over Ricochet back in the middle of the ring. Kaiser plants Ricochet with a slam and goes for the cover but Ricochet lifts the shoulders after a two count.

Kaiser makes the tag to the Intercontinental Champion Gunther. Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre slowly makes his way down to the ring and he and Gunther lock eyes from afar. Gunther turns his focus back to Ricochet and makes the tag to Vinci, who stomps on Ricochet’s arm. Vinci delivers a trio of lariats but Ricochet spins out of the final attempt and dives to the corner to make the tag to Strowman! The ‘Monster Among Men’ takes out both Kaiser and Vinci and he and Gunther come face-to-face in the center of the ring. Gunther lights up Strowman with a chop then drop-kicks him into the corner and Moss makes the self-tag on Strowman. Santos says it’s now time to show the WWE Universe how much he respects Rey and Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley interrupt. Dominik says Karrion Kross will put his father (Rey) to sleep tonight and Santos says he may need to teach Dominik some respect. Santos gets in Dominik’s face but Rhea steps in-between them and laughs at Santos before she and Rhea exit. Rey looks distressed and leaves after Santos tries to console him and we head to a commercial break.

Back from the break and Jimmy Uso is with Solo Sikoa backstage with Paul Heyman lurking in the background. Jimmy says he thinks Jey is ‘spooked’ over the whole Sami Zayn situation. Heyman says Solo should sit in the back with him while Jimmy ‘handles’ Jey in the ring, man to man, brother to brother, Uso to Uso. Jimmy agrees and we head back to the ring, where LA Knight is making his way down the ramp.

LA Knight is in ring gear but grabs a microphone and says ‘lemme talk to ya!’. Knight says everyone is talking about their WrestleMania moment but not him. Knight said he came to WWE to make money and win titles and he starts that journey by going to WrestleMania ‘YEAH!’. Knight says he won’t be the one having a WrestleMania moment and says Los Angeles can’t have a WrestleMania without LA Knight being there, so, he’ll give WrestleMania an LA Knight moment. The New Day’s music hits and out comes Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. Kofi laughs and says Knight doesn’t realize how WWE works. Kofi asks Knight who he even is thinking he can demand a WrestleMania match. Knight calls Kofi and Xavier the ‘Nerd Day’ and says if they stopped playing video games, they’d realize how much of a mega star he is ‘YEAH!’. Xavier says being nerds has made the New Day a lot of money and says he and Kofi can tell Knight loves hand outs considering the looks of the leather vest that he’s wearing. Xavier said Kofi had one of the biggest WrestleMania moments of all-time and Knight interrupts him and asks Kofi how ‘Kofi Mania’ worked out for him.

Kofi gets in the ring and says ‘Kofi Mania’ worked out pretty well for him and asks Knight if he wants him (Kofi) to ‘shut him up’ right here in Evansville, Indiana. The crowd seems to want it, and Xavier Woods calls for Adam Pearce to send out a referee and a referee makes their way down to the ring and we’ll have an impromptu match after the break!

It’s then announced that SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley will come face-to-face after the break.

Back from the break and SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair makes her way down to the ring. Charlotte immediately calls Rhea Ripley out and Charlotte’s challenger doesn’t oblige. Charlotte says Rhea must be having second thoughts about choosing her after winning the Women’s Royal Rumble Match. Dominik Mysterio makes his way down to the ring and says he’s not going to allow Charlotte to run down ‘Mami’ like that. Charlotte tells Dominik to be a ‘good little Nino’ and tell ‘Mami’ to come face her like ‘a real woman’. Dominik says Charlotte is a beautiful woman and while females are the ‘softer sex’ Rhea is aggressive and ‘breaks’ his back. Charlotte says she has a real Latin man at him (referring to AEW’s Andrade El Idolo). Dominik says he and Charlotte have a lot in common being second generation superstars who have ‘surpassed’ their father’s even if the fans refuse to agree with it.

Dominik says Rey’s father is a lot worse than Charlotte’s, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. Dominik says Rey messed his childhood up and because of that, he’ll always have a chip on his shoulder. Dominik says when ‘Mami’ beats Charlotte at WrestleMania, Charlotte will realize that Ric was right…she (Charlotte) just isn’t good enough. Charlotte says unlike Dominik, she loves her father, and Dominik is lucky because Ric isn’t here, because otherwise, he’d knock Dominik out. Charlotte takes off her title and gets in Dominik’s face and Rhea Ripley’s music hits. Rhea gets in Charlotte’s face but Dominik holds her back and they get out of the ring. Rhea rushes back in the ring as Charlotte hoists her title in the air and the challenger gets in the champion’s face. Natalya clocks Shayna with a kick to the chest and plants her with a German suplex, then a lariat, before going for the cover but Shayna kicks out. Natalya looks for the Sharpshooter but Shayna slides out of then ring. Natalya nails Shayna with a Baseball slide and tosses Shayna back into the ring. Natalya gets in Ronda Rousey’s face but Shayna drills Natalya with a knee on the apron, drags Natalya back into the ring, and applies the arm-bar to get the tap out from Natalya!

Winner – Shayna Bazler

After the match, Tegan Nox rushes the ring and a quick brawl ensues between the four competitors as Ronda and Shayna make their exit.

It’s announced that Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Funhouse will go down after the break.

Back from the break and it’s time for the Firefly Funhouse! We see the Funhouse set and it turns red as the camera turns to the TV inside of the Funhouse. We see two Undertaker figures fighting each other and we see Bray Wyatt watching his promo back from last week where he called out the winner of Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar, which went down this past weekend at Elimination Chamber, where Lashley won via disqualification. Bray Wyatt pops back on the screen and he’s with Ramblin’ Rabbit. Bray asks Rabbit who opened the door but they then run a weather report, where we see Uncle Howdy. Bray then appears in game show attire and asks if everyone can keep a secret. Back at the Funhouse, things appear to get more serious as we see some flashes of horror movie scenes and Bray pops back up with a mask and asks if he told everyone a story, if they could keep a secret and that’s the end of the Funhouse.

Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman are shown backstage. Heyman shows Jimmy his phone where Roman Reigns texted him saying that Roman will be live at SmackDown, next Friday night. Heyman says that Roman also says that if Jimmy doesn’t handle Jey Uso, tonight, Roman said he’ll do it himself, next week.

It’s then announced that Rey Mysterio will face Karrion Kross after the break.

Rey Mysterio vs. Karrion Kross (with Scarlett)

Mysterio dumps Kross right to the outside and lays Kross out with a diving cross-body through the middle rope and we head to a commercial break. Back from the break and Kross is working over Rey back in the middle of the ring. We see a picture-in-picture of Kross firing Rey into the ring post with a Razor’s Edge during the break, which is how he gained control. Rey springboards himself of the middle rope but Kross catches him and slides up to the outside. Kross goes out and scoops Rey before drilling him with a sidewalk slam over his own knee. Kross tosses Rey back into the ring and puts Rey on the top turnbuckle and climbs up with him. Rey gets behind Kross and plants him with posoinrana from the top turnbuckle. Rey shoves Kross into the middle rope and looks for the 619 but Scarlett comes diving into the ring, pretending she fell to distract the referee. Rey continues with the 619 but Dominik comes from under the ring and shoves Rey on the ground. Rey climbs back into the ring and walks right into an elbow from Kross, who locks up the Kross Jacket and Rey goes to sleep!

Winner – Karrion Kross

After the match, Dominik gets in the ring and shoves Rey and Rey gets in his son’s face but refuses to hit him. Dominik yells at Rey to hit him but he still won’t. Rey says something to Dominik and kicks the bottom rope before exiting.

It’s announced that we’ll hear from Jimmy Uso after the break.

Back from the break and one-half of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, Jimmy Uso makes his way down to the ring. Jimmy grabs a microphone and directs his attention to his brother, Jey. Jimmy says if Jey isn’t there tonight, he knows he’s watching and he knows that he’s hurt. Jimmy says he knows Jey is torn and no matter what, he’s always been there and will be there for Jey. Jimmy says people are saying that there’s cracks in The Bloodline and that they have a Sami Zayn problem and a Kevin Owens problem and he (Jimmy) can’t do it alone. Sami Zayn comes through the crowd and gets in the ring. Sami grabs a microphone and says he’s not there to fight and he just wants to talk to Jey. Sami says he also wants to talk to Jimmy and says every time Jimmy says brother, it hurts him because they used to be brothers too. Sami says Jimmy always trusted him, even when Jey, Roman Reigns, and Paul Heyman didn’t. Sami says without Jimmy there’s no Sami Uso but when things went left, Jimmy turned on him immediately and that hurt him (Sami). Jimmy looks like he’s about to attack Sami but he says Sami is selfish. Jimmy says the blame isn’t on him because Sami’s the one who took a steel chair to Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble. Jimmy says what he did was what family does, Sami interrupts and says family doesn’t make you prove yourselves every single week and family doesn’t manipulate each other like Roman did to him…and Jey. Speaking of Jey, he comes in through the crowd and Sami continues talking to Jimmy. Sami says there’s a way out for both he (Jimmy) and Jey. Sami looks up to Jey and Jimmy attacks Sami. Jimmy waves on for Jey to come help him but Sami drills Jimmy with a Helluva Kick. Solo Sikoa rushes the ring and chases Sami off and Jey remains behind the barricade and everyone locks eyes from a distance as the show goes-off-the-air!

WWE Firings Were a Hot Topic of Conversation Backstage at SmackDown

Recent departures from WWE were all the roster could talk about backstage at this week’s taping of WWE SmackDown on FOX.

Earlier this week, it was reported that WWE is in the process of laying off several staff members, all of which are from the corporate side.

There is no word yet on how many people have been let go, or whether the layoffs are still ongoing.

These layoffs have taken place despite (now former CEO) Stephanie McMahon saying in a meeting earlier this month that little would change following Vince McMahon’s return to WWE.

SmackDown

No WWE Superstars have been laid off (at this time) but these office cuts were a huge talking point this week.

Fightful Select reports that these layoffs were a “big topic of conversation” and many were surprised to learn that Adam Hopkins was gone.

Hopkins had worked for WWE for 25 years and was a Vice President of Communications before his departure this month.

It remains unclear whether Hopkins’ departure was a resignation or whether he was fired by the company.

Talent Cuts

While no Superstars have been released since McMahon’s departure, many feel it is just a matter of time before this happens.

On Wrestling Observer Radio earlier this month, Dave Meltzer noted that talent are worried that Vince McMahon’s return will see more mass layoffs.

When WWE was laying off talent in droves, starting with the April 15, 2020 cuts, it was suggested that the company was looking to boost profit margins and look more desirable to a potential buyer.

Ricochet Shares Photos Of Gruesome Injury From SmackDown

Ricochet teamed up with Braun Strowman to compete in a Miracle on 34th Street Fight against Imperium during the December 23rd edition of WWE SmackDown.

The main event featured cameos from a ballerina as well as The New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods both of which emerged from a gift.

The ending of the bout saw Strowman reviving Ricochet with a kiss from his real life girlfriend Samantha Irwin. The duo then defeated Imperium after Ricochet hit a crossbody off Strowman’s shoulders.

Ricochet Shows Graphic Injury

While the high-flying star did win the match it was revealed later that he suffered an injury. The former IC champion’s head was split open during the bout. While he was able to finish the match, the officials checked on him afterward.

The SmackDown star provided an update on his health on Twitter after the pre-taped show. He shared some graphic photos of the injury and revealed that he received six stitches from the cut:

https://twitter.com/KingRicochet/status/1606717187783536640

Ricochet has been involved in a feud with Gunther over the IC title recently. He won the SmackDown World Cup to earn a shot at the championship. Though he was unable to capture the title when he faced the Ring General earlier this month.
