    – WWE NXT star Roman Reigns (formerly known as Leakee), defeated Heath Slater at Saturday night’s live event in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

    – James Laurinaitis, the son of wrestling legend Road Warrior Animal (and nephew of John Laurinaitis), has signed a huge 5-year contract with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams that could be worth upto $41.5 million. The deal includes a $23.5 million guarantee.

    – Recently released WWE developmental diva Sofia Cortez (Ivelisse Vélez) teased on Twitter over teh weekend that she might be getting back into MMA. She will be appearing several wrestling convention appearances later this year and can be booked through warrioressjuliet@hotmail.com.

    – Episode 37 of WWE’s Youtube show Are You Serious? Featuring footage from the 90’s match between “Paul E. Dangerously” vs Jim Cornette in a Tuxedo Match.

     

  • WWE Releases Another NXT Diva?

    With the relaunch of WWE’s official NXT website on Tuesday, FCWWrestling.info, the Divas roster page no longer lists former Tough Enough contestants Sofia Cortez and Caylee Turner—a general sign of a talent departure from developmental.

    Cortez announced Saturday on Twitter that she was released from her WWE developmental contract.

    Turner’s absence from the index could be a website error as unlike Cortez, her profile remains online.

  • WWE Releases Developmental Diva, WWE Highlights Luchadors

    – Ivelisse Vélez, who appeared in Florida Championship Wrestling as Sofia Cortez, says she has been released by WWE. She announced Saturday on Twitter:

    Vélez, who began her professional wrestling career in 2005 in Puerto Rico, rose to prominence as a contestant on Tough Enough last year, a televised competition that awarded the winner a WWE contract.

    Vélez was eliminated from the competition due to injury, but offered a developmental contract in November. She had been appearing on WWE NXT as of late.

  • Layla Returns To The Ring, Sunny Remembers Candido, More

    — Layla made her return to in-ring competition at a non-televised Florida Championship Wrestling event on Thursday night. Alongside babyface Audrey Marie, they defeated Paige and Sofia Cortez.

    The final WWE Women’s Champion has been sidelined since May due to tears of both her Anterior cruciate and Medial collateral ligaments, which required surgery. She underwent rehabilitation in the meantime.

    — WWE Hall of Famer Sunny posted a message on Facebook remembering the late Chris Candido, who would have turned 40 years old on Wednesday. She wrote of her former boyfriend with the following image, “I miss you honey…xoxo.” After several people posted photos and messages remembering Candido on her Facebook wall, she wrote, “ok, enough sadness about CC….lets move on to happier things…Heaven isn’t too far away…closer to it every day….”

    Candido died on April 28, 2005 due to a blood clot, a complication from leg surgery three days earlier.

    — WWE Hall of Famer Howard Finkel will appear at WrestleReunion 8 taking place April 13-15 at Doubletree Toronto Airport 655 Dixon Rd. Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
