Jeff Jarrett Receives Ovation, Words Of Encouragement After Owen Hart Cup Loss

What does the future hold for Jeff Jarrett? ‘The Last Outlaw’ felt at a loss after his loss to Hangman Page in the quarterfinals of The Owen Hart Cup, but fans still paid ‘Double J’ respect.

Chicago exploded for the in-ring return of Hangman Page, but it was quickly discovered that his ‘Cowboy S***’ mantra came with cruel intentions. Page was ruthless in his assault against Jarrett, who happened to eventually get the Chicago crowd on his side. Jarrett even got a huge reaction when he locked Page in Owen Hart’s sharpshooter. Jarrett escaped Page’s grasp several times, but was caught with a Buckshot Lariat and it was good enough to keep Jarrett down. However, Page wasn’t done. For good measure he hit his Dead Eye finisher for the 1-2-3.

Page made his return after being away for months and from a storyline perspective was suspended by The Young Bucks. However, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson were the ones to reinstate Hangman and implement him into the tournament. While he was a heel against Jarrett, Page also shared his disdain for The Bucks, making it clear to him he wasn’t their puppet.

Despite the loss, The Windy City did tip their cap to ‘The Last Outlaw’ as they cheered Jeff making his exit to the back.

Later on, camera crews caught up with a frustrated and despondent Jarrett as he tried to gather himself after the loss. Both Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt gave him words of encouragement, letting him know that he didn’t let the legacy of Owen Hart down, with Dutt adding opportunity will present itself stemming from the outcame. Jarrett wasn’t too convinced by that.

Tony Khan reveals who helps him book AEW storylines

If you’ve been curious who’s been involved in the creative process for AEW after losing a name like CM Punk, Tony Khan provided a little clarity to that. Speaking on The World’s End Media call, Khan spoke with SEScoops correspondent Dominic DeAngelo about whether or not he’s reconsidered his booking strategy as we round the corner into 2024.

During the All Out 2023 media scrum, it was mentioned how overworked Khan is and to Bryan Danielson’s suggestion, hired Jimmy Jacobs as a full time assistant. Those two, along with others, are names he said he had working creatively at AEW Dynamite.

Who helps Tony Khan book AEW?

“We have a great group of people. Just an example, yesterday, you had a great group with Bryan Danielson, Mike Mansury, Will Washington, Jimmy Jacobs, Sonjay Dutt, Sarah Stock and Dean Malenko and several others that were in my office throughout the day at various points. Bryan had his match, people were in and out, I think everybody had great points and there were a number of other people.”

Khan talked about how the recent string of shows from AEW have been very good, but the system he does have set up could likely use some tweaking.

“It wasn’t quite the set-up I was looking for so I’ll see if I still get it, but very excited to talk about the science of the booking and I think in particular, recently, we’ve had some of the best shows we’ve ever done.”

Khan noted that the Continental Classic has been a huge influence of how he books moving forward and then reiterated the confidence he has with his strategy.

“I think the experiments we’ve been doing are working and I have a better sense of where to go and what to do going into 2024 than I ever have been.”

Satnam Singh Learning From Paul Wight

In September 2021, Satnam Singh signed with AEW. When he made his television debut in April 2022, he attacked Samoa Joe and aligned himself with Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal. Singh has had a few tag team matches, but had yet to have a singles match.

On the latest episode of The Session with Renee Paquette, Sonjay Dutt spoke about his relationship with Singh.

Dutt gets to speak Punjabi every week with Singh. “Obviously, his English is good. He’s been here since ’13 or ’14 he’s been here experiencing the NBA and whatnot. But, I understand –I kind of empathize with him in that he’s still in a strange place. He’s still surrounded by people that he — his sister finally got her visa and finally got to move to Canada, so she’s a little closer. It was great. He was telling me and he was crying. It was an emotional moment for both of us. I felt for him. But most of the time, we strictly speak Punjabi.”

“It’s a connection me and Satnam have. And you know, hopefully he can feel a little more at home when he’s around me at work.”

Sonjay Dutt on His Connection with Satnam Singh

Dutt has really enjoyed getting to know and work with Singh. He and Paqutte discussed Singh’s warmth and his presence. “I love him as a person. Me and him obviously have this bond where we’re both from the same place with the same background. We speak the same language and there’s not many of us in professional wrestling. That connection kind of brings us together right off the bat. We have this connection and he wants to excel at this.”

“And Lethal and I have kind of taken a hand in kind of cultivating his in-ring stuff whenever we can. Anytime there’s tag matches with he and Lethal — he hasn’t had a singles match so we’re getting to that point. I think we’re getting real close. Anything we show him, anything we tell him, he soaks it up. He utilizes stuff that we tell him to utilize; ‘hey, do this differently.’ And I didn’t think that would be the case. I’ve worked with other Indian giants and that was not the case at all.”

“So, you know experiences with him is cool because I always tell people yes, he’s seven-foot-four. Yes, he’s giant or whatever you want to call somebody of that stature. He’s got size 20 feet, but he’s an athlete. That’s the difference between him and anyone else of his size that’s gotten in professional wrestling. He’s a legitimate athlete, so anything we show him or tell him, bam! He pulls it off.”

“And I love that and he’s got such a bright future in wrestling. He’s 26, Renee. Let’s not forget that. He is a kid. So, I always kind of keep that in the back of my mind every week when we’re kind of talking to him, that ‘hey, he’s still a kid.’ He’s 26 and he’s working in this new world that he probably had no clue about before he stepped in it. So for him to excel this quick in something he probably never even watched as a child, that says a lot about his character and his athletic prowess.”

Paul Wight Mentoring Satnam Singh

Paul Wight
Paul Wight (Photo: AEW)

“Paul Wight has taken a lot of interest in Satnam and they kind of hit it off. So when it comes to tape study and stuff, I tell Satnam, ‘whatever Paul tells you, just listen and do that.’ And I appreciate Paul taking that time, effort, and energy that he spends with Satnam because there’s just some days where Lethal and I don’t have time get in the ring with him, but Paul does.”

“I’ve kind of told Satnam, ‘Paul will be your ticket to success if you just listen to what he’s telling you to do. He is experienced.’ If there’s anyone in AEW that can empathize and sympathize with Satnam’s issues and problems and kind of excelling at something like this, it’s Paul.”

“So that’s why I tell Satnam a lot of times, ‘look, Lethal and I will tell you our perspective, but our perspective is going to be way different than his. His perspective and his insight will be more centered and gear to you. So, whenever he wants to sit with you, just sit down and listen and soak it all in.'”

AEW Talent Rules Out Ever Returning to In-Ring Action

One current AEW onscreen talent has ruled out the possibility of having another match.

AEW is filled with stars and it doesn’t stop with in-ring action. The company also has plenty of managers such as Stokely Hathaway and former in-ring legends turned managers such as Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, and Jake Roberts.

In the case of one AEW/ROH manager, his days of sharing the ring with some of the best in the world have come to an end.

Sonjay Dutt Has No Plans of Wrestling Again

During an appearance on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Sonjay Dutt made it clear that he doesn’t plan to wrestle anymore due to physical ailments.

“There will be zero chance that I will be returning to the ring. Let’s put it like this. If I was fixed physically, if my body was 100%, that would be something I would consider. But until that happens, there’s no way I’m doing it.”

Sonjay Dutt rules out in-ring return

Dutt is not only an AEW producer but he’s also found his way as a manager for Jay Lethal and Satnam Singh. Lethal will challenge Samoa Joe for the ROH World TV Championship at Death Before Dishonor on July 23.

The former IMPACT Wrestling star discussed his longtime close friendship with Jay Lethal.

“Tony Khan came up to me and he had this idea. I guess it’s no secret to him and a lot of people backstage that Jay Lethal and I are best friends. We’ve been best friends for 20 years. When I say best friends, I mean Thanksgiving, Christmas, vacations, he’s family.

“Tony said, ‘Hey, man. I got this idea. I want to try to link you with Jay Lethal on television, and then he drops the Satnam bomb. Since I stopped wrestling, I was very adamant that my future was not in front of the camera. I refused those roles in previous companies.

I was very fulfilled, and I still am very fulfilled with what I do backstage in cultivating new talent, and helping them out and showing them the ropes. That is where I truly feel like I have excelled in the last five plus years. So when he came to me with this idea, I was kind of hesitant, but when he dropped ‘Hey, you’re going to work with Jay on camera’, it was a quick yes.

Being on camera and working so closely with my best friend, I mean, I can’t write a better story. It is truly like a dream come true to be out there with Jay.”

Dutt also put over Satnam Singh as a quick learner and relishes teaching him the ins and outs of the wrestling business.

Sonjay Dutt Joins AEW As A Producer

It was reported earlier this week that Sonjay Dutt had left WWE after having worked in a producer’s role for the company since 2019. According to a report from PW Insider, Dutt was backstage at AEW Dynamite last night. He is believed to have signed on to work full-time in a producer’s role.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Dutt left WWE on his own accord a couple of weeks ago. He had been with the company since early 2019. In addition to working backstage as a producer in WWE, he also worked at the Performance Center as a trainer. He left Impact Wrestling in January of 2019 and began work backstage in WWE shortly after.

Dutt hasn’t wrestled since 2017. He underwent surgery for a torn right achilles in early 2018 and quietly retired after. He then started working as a commentator and backstage in Impact Wrestling.

During his in-ring career, Dutt is a former 1x X-Division Champion in WWE. He’s also a 2x CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion and was inducted into the promotion’s Hall of Fame in 2019. Dutt also held the GFW NEX*GEN Championship in Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling. He began his career in 2000 and broke out in 2003 with Major League Wrestling and would then debut for TNA Wrestling later that same year.

Sonjay Dutt No Longer Working As A Producer In WWE

WWE’s internal shakeups continue. Producer Sonjay Dutt is no longer with the company, as first reported by Fightful. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer adds that Dutt left on his own after asking to be released a couple weeks ago.

Dutt requested his release from Impact Wrestling in early 2019 and signed with WWE shortly after receiving it. The 39-year-old is a former X-Division Champion in TNA/Impact. Upon his retirement in 2019 was inducted into the CZW Hall of Fame as well.

Meltzer also reported that Canyon Ceman was also out as the Senior Vice President of Talent Development. However, WWE has denied Ceman’s release and Meltzer backtracked, calling it a “crazy story.”

Ceman has been with WWE since March of 2012. He is one of the most influential people behind the scenes, working closely with Superstars on their contracts and also scouting new talent for the company.

Prior to joining WWE, Canyon Ceman worked as an executive with the Association of Volleyball Professions after having playing pro volleyball for 14 years.

There have been numerous shakeups regarding WWE executives recently, however, including Mark Carrano’s release earlier this year.

Abyss & Sonjay Dutt Gone From Impact, Rumored For WWE

Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer Abyss and Sonjay Dutt are both gone from Impact Wrestling. According to PWInsider, both men are expected to join WWE in the near future. That report states Abyss and Dutt had “great opportunities” awaiting them in WWE and Impact willingly allowed them to pursue them.

Abyss had been with Impact Wrestling since the company’s formation back in 2002. After a storied career, he was inducted into the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame during Bound For Glory weekend last October. Abyss had been working behind the scenes as a producer. He is the last of the Impact “originals” still on board.

It will be very interesting to see what Abyss’ role will be in WWE and whether or not he gets an on-screen run before settling into a backstage role.

Dutt started with Impact back in 2003. He’s a former X-Division champion and was also working as a producer.

Konnan and Tommy Dreamer will replace Abyss and Sonjay Dutt on the Impact creative team. They’ll be working with Don Callis and Scott D’Amore in the months ahead as Impact looks to gain traction in 2019.

GFW Star Reveals Why He Rejected An Offer From WWE

Last year when WWE was hiring several former TNA performers amidst the company’s financial crisis, there were still some stars who decided to remain with the company through its most uncertain times. One such star who made the decision to return to the company now known as GFW despite having an offer from WWE is the Indo-American professional wrestler Sonjay Dutt.

During his recent Interview with Wrestlinginc, Dutt spoke up about his decision to choose GFW over WWE and revealed the reason behind his move.

According to the GFW star, he has to put his family first while making any serious decisions in his life and it was also an important reason behind it among other things:

“A lot of factors played into that, I’m 35, I’ve got a wife, I’ve got two kids and I’ve got a family that I have to put first before my decisions in life. That took a good chunk of the decision-making process, what is best for them. You know, uprooting my family and two young children, that was a huge part of it.”

In previous interviews, Dutt has also mentioned that his relationship with the GFW founder Jeff Jarret was also a reason for his GFW return.

It’s worth noting here that Sonjay Dutt worked as a guest trainer at WWE Performance Centre last year and he was later offered a contract by the company.

Though he rejected the offer and signed with GFW as a full-time producer instead. He later also made his in ring return for the company and became the X-Division Champion for the first time during the recent GFW tour of India.

Sonjay Dutt Talks His Health, Global Force Wrestling, and More

https://youtu.be/wryNkfSJn90

Sonjay Dutt is a veteran cruiserweight/X Division style wrestler who made a name for himself in TNA and other promotions, but lately, he hasn’t been as visible as a wrestler. In large part that’s because he’s working in the office for Global Force Wrestling along with Jeff Jarrett and Scott D’Amore. This week, he talked about GFW, his health, and more as the latest guest on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, and here are some of the key quotes they sent out:

What was his reaction to Daniel Bryan announcing his retirement?

I think the number one thing coming from that and it should have hit every wrestler watching is if his brain is supposedly like that, then who knows how many other wrestlers are in that same situation. It’s just that we just don’t checked, we don’t get it checked out and had the rigorous testing that he had. It was obviously sad that someone so talented and so young would be forced to retire. Who knows if me or the next guy who went through the same testing won’t find the same thing in our brain. Which is scary to think.

What’s next for Global Force Wrestling?

I think the number one question is when are we going to see it on TV and that is the next step. What I’ve learned is trying to get 52 weeks of television content on a major cable network is not the easiest thing in the world or the quickest thing to do but that is the next step for Global Force and 2016 is just starting and this year we’ve made quite the leeway in those regards and I think that the further along we get here in this year, the more announcements we are going to be able to make and hopefully sooner then later we can get our content on television and really show wrestling fans how we are trying to be different and what type of program we are trying to present.

Has GFW considered some kind of streaming service for their TV show?

Initially we’ve discussed it and still those discussions are on the table. We’ve discussed all digital platforms. Technology and entertainment are ever evolving and some stuff that was around a year ago isn’t around now and new stuff comes and goes and we are trying to figure out what the best route is to showcase Global Force whether it be on cable television or whether it be through a digital or a streaming service like a Netflix, and all of those options are absolutely 100% on the table.

What did he think of working on GFW shows as part of the company’s minor league baseball stadium tour last summer?

I loved them. They are just so different from your regular arena setting and your regular arena shows and honestly on a nice summer day what is better than sitting in a ballpark watching pro wrestling. It’s a cool atmosphere and a cool environment. We’ve got a lot of families and a lot of kids coming around and there is a nostalgia factor to it as well and at all of our ballpark shows we’ve had a legend of pro wrestling come and sign and it was a good time across the board.

Does GFW have one of the most underrated rosters in the business?

I think that the name of the game of any start up pro wrestling company is getting the word out there and getting people to know you exist and then you can really showcase your talent which at the end of the day is THE number one thing that sells a pro wrestling company. What we are trying to do is show a different batch of guys out there that you might not know and that is what we were doing on our baseball shows. We would go to these towns and have your regular wrestlers and we would go to these towns to try and find that diamond in the rough and since Independent wrestling is (crazy) thriving throughout the country, just to find out those stars that are regional and nobody knows about and put them on a bigger stage.

Reason Why GFW Took NEX*GEN Title Off PJ Black Before First “Amped” Episode

https://youtu.be/17MjPfQnJwQ

Regarding PJ Black (Justin Gabriel) losing the Global Force Wrestling NEX*GEN Title to Sonjay Dutt last week, prior to the airing of the first ever GFW Amped episode, the decision was made out of necessity as Black has signed with Lucha Underground.

Upon finding out about the signing, GFW officials decided to immediately take the title off of Black and put it on someone else, with Dutt being the talent that the office settled on.

Dutt defeated Black to become the second-ever GFW NEX*GEN Champion at the WrestleCade “Showcase of Champions” event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on November 7th.

Sonjay Dutt On Sabu & Raven, TNA’s X-Division, Amazing Red & More

Veteran pro wrestler Sonjay Dutt recently appeared on Main Event Madness Radio to discuss a number of topics. Below are some of the highlights from the interview:

On working with Amazing Red & early days of the TNA X-Division: “It was great, I was very young. So when you’re young and you’re put in that type of position you know, there really can’t be anything wrong. Everything is cool you’re in a different environment, a lot of fun in those early days in Nashville.”

On his feelings on Sabu & Raven: “I loved it because I was actually one of the biggest ECW fans there ever could be. I was fascinated by ECW. I watched it religiously, everything, anything I could get my hands on. I knew everything about everybody and Sabu was one of those guys I idolized and looked up to growing up watching wrestling. So just getting to work with him was a dream come true.

“[Opinion on Raven] It was awesome. He actually helped get me my job in TNA. He was a big proponent for me, and we had a real good relationship.”

On if the X-Division could’ve helped TNA, and his feelings on how it is today: “Yea absolutely. I think that was one of the main reasons people were watching. It was unlike anything else on television at the time.”

“[On how the X-Division is Today] Yea it’s definitely not what it was. I dont think it ever will be. I dont think they care to make it what it was. You’ve got to enjoy what’s put in front of you i guess.”

Sonjay Dutt Interview: Global Force, The NEXT&GEN Title, Jarrett-TNA & More

Global Force Wrestling star Sonjay Dutt appeared on The Rack Radio Show last Thursday, hosted by Lindsey Ward & Sir Rockin. The full show is available for streaming at WildTalkRadio.com.  Here are some highlights of what he said about:

If he’s excited to take part in the launch of Global Force Wrestling and being a part of the NEX*GEN Championship Tournament: “Yeah, absolutely. I’m just really excited to be a part of something new, on the ground floor and in the first stages of this brand new company. It’s very similar to back in 2003 when I started with TNA and it was about a year old, or barely a year old and Jeff Jarrett had just started a new company and I climbed on board and here we are in 2015 and we’re doing it all over again.”

If GFW Grand Slam events are different than traditional indoors events and how so: “You know, being outside and outdoors is a completely different monster; you’ve got a lot of the elements to deal with and you’re just not sure of the weather and constraints so it’s just hard being outside. Noise travels all over the place but it’s a really cool atmosphere and a really fun time. We’re trying to be the most fan interactive group that you can possible go to a show for; we’ve got the fan meet-and-greets at 5:30, before bell time for about an hour, talent is very easily accessible; no one is hiding out and everyone is mingling with the fans. It’s just very cool to get up with the fans that I might not normally be able to at other shows.”

If he took anything from his early days with TNA to use as examples here or is he just taking it as it comes: “I think the presentation of the product is a little different, I guess very different, so you can’t really predict how things are going to go but I do know that we’ve got an awesome roster and I think the one thing that separates us for every other wrestling promotion is talent and we’ve got a loaded line-up next Friday at our first TV tapings; our Grand Slam events had loaded line-ups as well. We’re not just looking for the world-wide international stars but we’re looking for the regional stars and the diamonds in the rough, the ones the fans might not know about that need that stage to shine.”

What would it be like to be the first NEX*GEN Championship for GFW: “It would be amazing. It would be awesome; being a part of something brand new and being crowned the first ever. The first ever anything is kinda cool but especially in this environment where it’s the kind of wrestling I excel at and honed over the years and perfected, that kind of adds to it.

I think all that stuff is going to come to life not just next Friday, but as the days and weeks go by. The NEX*GEN division is going to be very similar to the X-Division but we’re going to be focusing on the next generation of high-flyers, the next generation of hybrid wrestlers out there, basically taking every style here is out there in pro wrestling and meshing it together and there’s a lot of guys out there that have traveled the world, much like I have, and perfected your Lucha style, your Japanese style, your American style and bring them all together and get this one big, hybrid style of wrestling and we truly think that is the next generation of wrestling. Gone are the days of the slow, and I don’t want to say boring, but action-based pro wrestling is the future and action-based pro wrestling is the next generation.”

His reaction on seeing Jeff and Karen Jarrett appear on TNA TV to publicize GFW: “I think it was crazy and was about the same reaction everyone else had in ‘What is going on here?!’ I’m sure that’s what was going on Jeff’s mind as he was walking to the ring and as he was ring the ring speaking his mind. But, it’s a crazy business; the wrestling business is a crazy business. You cannot predict anything and you cannot rule anything out. Time will only tell what this brings not only to TNA but to GFW as well.”

Who would he like to see in GFW and who would he like to compete against: “Let’s so, oh many this is a tough on; there’s so much good talent out there. Right now, I think the connection Jeff (Jarrett) has and GFW has with New Japan Pro Wrestling in producing the Tokyo Dome pay-per-view this past January, I think North American fans were exposed to so much talent and they just didn’t know it. Being an aficionado of the Japanese wrestling scene and having spent a year to year and a half of my life out there wrestling and was up close and personal with it; some of those guys I would love to see over here. (Kazuchika) Okada, (Shinsuke) Nakamura, (Tomohiro) Ishii, (Hirooki) Goto, (Katsuyori) Shibata and we’ve gotten a taste of the Bullet Club and the Young Bucks during the Grand Slam tour. So, I think those guys coming in here creates so many fresh new match-ups. We’ve got IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Kushida, he’s going to be in Las Vegas next Friday and getting that type of flavor in GFW is priceless. There’s a lot of guys out in Mexico as well and they’re getting exposure out in California and in AAA. So there’s a lot of high-flyers out there that I would love to get in the ring with.

Who does he see walking out as the first ever GFW Global Heavyweight Champion: “That’s a tough one. I really like Nick Aldis, formerly known as Magnus, I’ve always enjoyed everything about his work and the way he carries himself as a professional wrestler both inside and outside of the ring; I think he’s a real special performer. He’s got a real shot, starting fresh and showing the world what he can do and showing that maybe he didn’t get that opportunity previously and this is it. Also, a guy like Brian Myers (formerly Curt Hawkins in the WWE) maybe he wasn’t given that ball that he deserved over the years and maybe this is the time for him to grab that ball and show wheat he can do.”

Talents GFW Has Reached Out To, Jeff Jarrett Denies Eric Bischoff/GFW Reports

Jeff Jarrett has been contacting a number of talents to be part of his upstart Global Force Wrestling promotion in recent weeks.

Jarrett is apparently going after signed talents that have their deals with Ring Of Honor or TNA expiring soon, as well as unsigned talents.

The biggest name that GFW has reportedly reached out to is Roderick Strong, however there are rumors of talks with Team 3D, Chris Masters and Shelton Benjamin as well.

Jarrett has Sonjay Dutt and Scott D’Amore working on the office side of things for the promotion, and Dutt has been the one calling most of the aforementioned talents.

Regarding the offers to talents, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Jarrett has been offering the possibility of working 39 dates with the promotion.

As far as the rumors of Eric Bischoff being part of the promotion, Jarrett is denying these claims. Regarding Bischoff, Jarrett stated, “If GFW and BHE (Bischoff-Hervey Enterprises) are going to work together, we will not announce it at a Q&A in the U.K. They obviously heard what they wanted to hear.”
