Videos: Stephanie McMahon Talks About WWE’s Strategy With NXT, Social Media

Stephanie McMahon was in Las Vegas two weeks ago and spoke at the 2015 Experian Marketing Services Client Summit, which was attended by several UFC employees. UFC employees were said to be very impressed with the way Stephanie represented the WWE brand and the company’s promotional strategy.

Stephanie pushed the NXT brand and noted that WWE is well aware that the main product is not going to be embraced by their entire audience. She acknowledged that fans have varied tasted in what they’re looking for, which was a big part of WWE’s initiative to make NXT a full fledged touring brand.

WWE positioning NXT as a minor-league brand with high production values allows the company to cater to indie wrestling fans who will connect with the next generation of talent and follow their journeys to the main roster.

She also pushed the idea that WWE having two different styles will result in each brand helping each other. The idea is fans that like the NXT style will follow their favorite Superstars and Divas to the main roster and the main roster fans will watch NXT to see the future Superstars and Divas first, with the idea that they will become bigger stars because of it.

WWE Partners With DoSomething.Org Again, Stephanie McMahon Comments

WWE issued the following press release on Monday to announce that they are partnering with DoSomething.org for the second straight year.

Below is the official press release, which features comments from Stephanie McMahon.

DOSOMETHING.ORG AND WWE TAKE ON BULLYING FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

New York, NY – August 3, 2015 – DoSomething.org, one of the largest global organizations for young people and social change, and global entertainment company WWE and its Be a STAR anti-bullying initiative, are teaming up for The Bully Text: Superstar Edition. The campaign, now in its second year, gets young people to take action around bullying by playing an SMS text message game.

From today until Monday, August 31, young people can virtually work their way through six levels of scenarios with guidance from WWE Superstars and Divas, including Roman Reigns®, Dean Ambrose®, Paige®, Natalya® and Alicia Fox®. Then, each player is given options to stand up and speak out against bullying. For example, “You sit behind Roman. Someone in the back of the bus keeps throwing paper airplanes at him. Do you A) Play it cool- it’s not your fight or B) play Superman?” Along the way, players will see how their anti-bullying skills compare to others, and ultimately whether they’ve earned the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title in bullying prevention. Every player will also receive the chance to win a Be a STAR rally at his or her school or community center.

“WWE’s massive reach and stellar talent have helped us activate thousands of young people around anti-bullying,” said Naomi Hirabayashi, chief marketing officer at DoSomething.org. “We’re excited to rally WWE fans around this issue for year two to make it bigger and better than ever!”

“We are proud to once again partner with DoSomething.org and provide thousands with resources to help put an end to bullying in their communities,” said Stephanie McMahon, WWE Chief Brand Officer. “Utilizing our global assets and larger than life WWE Superstars and Divas, we are confident that this campaign will help educate young people on the dangers of bullying and encourage them to stand up for themselves and others.”

In 2014, nearly 100,000 young people played the Bully Text game. To play Bully Text this year, text BULLY to 38383 or visit DoSomething.org/bully*.

Stephanie McMahon Joins Children’s Hospital Of Pittsburgh Foundation Board Of Trustees

WWE issued the following press release on Thursday to announce Stephanie McMahon joining the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation Board of Trustees.

WWE® Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon Joins Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation Board of Trustees

PITTSBURGH, July 30, 2015 – Stephanie McMahon, Chief Brand Officer for WWE, has been named to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation board of trustees.

McMahon, her family, WWE, and its fans have been strong supporters of pediatric cancer care and research at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC over the past two years.

McMahon became involved with Children’s Hospital in 2014, when she and her husband, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, met WWE fan Connor Michalek. Connor, 8, was battling medulloblastoma, a rare tumor that affects the brain and spinal cord, at the time. Connor formed a special connection with McMahon, Levesque, and many of the WWE Superstars and Divas. When Connor lost his battle with medulloblastoma in April 2014, Stephanie and Paul decided to honor his spirit by creating Connor’s Cure, a fund within Children’s Foundation that supports brain tumor research. To date, Connor’s Cure has raised more than $560,000 and has been supported by WWE and fans all over the world, including 49 states and six countries.

“We are honored to have Stephanie join our Board of Trustees. She and her family formed a very special bond with Connor, and she quickly demonstrated a passion for putting her talents and resources to work in the fight against pediatric cancer,” said Greg Barrett, president of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. “In the relatively short time she’s been involved with Children’s Hospital and our cancer program, Stephanie has already made a significant impact and I’m excited to see how her ideas and leadership will further enhance our goals and mission.”

“I’m extremely humbled and privileged to join Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation’s Board of Trustees and help play a role in their continued efforts to further pediatric cancer research,” said Stephanie McMahon, WWE Chief Brand Officer. “Connor Michalek had such a profound impact on so many people, including my husband and me. Through the tremendous work at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, I hope we can help find a cure for pediatric cancer, and ensure no other child has to endure Connor’s fate.”

Connor’s Cure supports research by Ian F. Pollack, M.D., chief, Pediatric Neurosurgery in the Brain Care Institute at the Children’s Hospital, including laboratory-based research and a vaccine-based immunotherapy research study. This study examines the efficacy of a unique immunotherapy that treats the tumor using a vaccine not entirely unlike the sort of vaccines most of us are familiar with, such as the tetanus or polio vaccines. Dr. Pollack and colleagues observed overexpression of a series of proteins on the surface of gliomas and ependymomas and determined that these proteins could be used as a component of the vaccine.

As WWE Chief Brand Officer, Stephanie is responsible for working with WWE’s business units to support key growth initiatives and represents WWE as its global brand ambassador among key constituencies including community and business partners, advertisers, media, and investors. She is the primary spokesperson for WWE’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, including Special Olympics, Susan G. Komen, and Be a STAR, WWE’s anti-bullying program. Stephanie is also a TV personality, appearing regularly on Monday Night Raw®, one of the most-watched shows on cable each week.

Stephanie McMahon Says Darren Young’s Character Isn’t Gay, But Could Be Soon

Jen Yamamoto of The Daily Beast recently questioned whether or not WWE is “too scared to go LGBT,” in the headline of a new story. WWE executive Stephanie McMahon claims WWE is not, yet noted that openly gay wrestler Darren Young’s (Fred Rosser III) character is not gay.

“Darren Young was the first WWE Superstar to really come out as being homosexual, but his character in the show is not,” said McMahon.

“At least, we haven’t done anything with it either way — just yet.”

Stephanie added that WWE is open to the idea of having gay characters.

“It could very well pop up in WWE because we are all about what’s relevant, and what’s pop culture, and what people want to see,” she said. “So if there is an opportunity, we might just take it.”

Update On NXT Divas Being Called Up, Backstage Arguments Over The Decision?

WWE reportedly went back-and-forth in recent weeks over how to bring the group of NXT Divas to the main roster, as well as which Divas to use, so much so that arguments broke out between various members of the creative team.

At one point, there was an idea to bring the NXT Divas to the main roster and have them replace the current WWE Divas division, outside of a couple of Divas that could keep up, as well as those needed because of Total Divas.

Stephanie McMahon was always scheduled to be involved and that fact was never debated, however there was some discussion as to whether or not she should take credit for bringing the Divas in on television, as it is seen as a babyface move.

Originally, there was talk of calling up four NXT Divas — Sasha Banks, Charlotte Becky Lynch and Bayley, and at times, they were thinking about bringing only two NXT Divas to the main roster — either Charlotte and Banks or Charlotte and Lynch.

The belief is that both Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are invested in this angle and are fully in support of it, so it likely won’t be one of those WWE angles that is quickly forgotten about in a matter of a few weeks.

Becky Lynch, Charlotte & Sasha Banks Make WWE Main Roster Debuts On RAW

On Monday’s WWE Battleground “go-home” edition of RAW, Stephanie McMahon announced a revolution of women’s wrestling in WWE.

Stephanie brought up the success of women in sports these days and went on to bring Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Sasha Banks to the main roster.

The storyline appears to be three groups of six, as Team Bella consists of The Bella Twins and Alicia Fox, while Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Paige were grouped together, and the trio of Naomi, Tamina and Sasha Banks were paired together.
