WWE Files For Interesting New Trademark

WWE continues to apply for interesting new trademarks. PWInsider reports that the company has now applied to trademark the term “Global Localization.” WWE applied for the trademark on April 7th, 2018, and the description for the filing can be found below:

“Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment; fan club services, namely, organizing and staging events with wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the field of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs in the fields of sports entertainment; business development; entertainment services, namely, development and distribution of talent and content”

It should be noted that this trademark comes on the heels of rumors that WWE is looking to revamp its “Global Warning” pay-per-view (PPV) event in Australia later this year at a 100,000 seat arena. WWE originally held the event in Australia back in 2002.

Triple H & Stephanie McMahon Name Their Greatest Superstar Of All Time

WWE COO Triple H and Monday Night RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon recently appeared on ESPN First Take to promote their Mixed Tag Team match at WrestleMania 34 against Ronda Rousey and Kurt Angle. Host Stephen A. Smith asked the pair who they think is the biggest star in WWE.

Stephanie named WWE Hall Of Famer Andre The Giant, while Triple H named off several stars like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Undertaker. Here’s what they had to say:

Stephanie:

“For me personally it’s got to be Andre the Giant. I think a lot of people would say The Rock, a lot of people might say John Cena, especially recently, but I would say Andre,” Stephanie said. “He’s a pop culture icon that has transcended media around the world. Of course we have our HBO special that’s going to be premiering in a couple of weeks in April and it’s just going to be an incredible reflection on the life of an icon.”

Triple H:

“For me the answer is kind of mixed because there are different aspects to that,” Triple H answered. “You can talk about the impact of Hulk Hogan or The Rock and him now being the biggest box office attraction in Hollywood, you can talk about “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. But there’s one guy for me within our industry that resonates beyond all else.

“When I go to India or the Middle East or Europe or Japan or Australia, South America, it doesn’t matter – one of the names that’s always brought up first and foremost is The Undertaker. The character, iconic character of that… it just transcends everything and it is for so many people that kind of character that encapsulates what WWE is.”

Co-host Max Kellerman named Hulk Hogan and Stephen A. Smith agreed, before naming others like The Road Warriors, Ric Flair, Randy Savage and Paul Orndorff. Triple H responded with the following:

“That is the thing, when you talk about it, you can talk about the genius of Vince, you can talk about the brand, you can talk about all the things, WrestleMania and all that. Nobody, nobody in any form of entertainment or sports has put out the amount of characters that have transcended generations,” Triple H responded.

“That storytelling, that level of character development that transcends generations, that touches your childhood and makes you feel something, takes you back in time to that moment … those moments transcend time, connect with you on a level and a character level that few things in this world can. That’s really the genius of Vince McMahon, that storytelling and that character creation.”

Ronda Rousey Says Stephanie McMahon’s Slap Actually Hurt

WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey recently did an interview with Yahoo Sports to promote her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34. “The Rowdy One” will team up with WWE Hall Of Famer and RAW General Manager Kurt Angle in a Mixed Tag Team match to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Rousey discussed how important it was for her to live life outside of the spotlight, get married, and enjoy life before joining WWE:

“It really was myself and Travis [Browne] planning on settling down that made me decide that I needed to go for it. We’re ready to start having kids soon and I was thinking about what I’ve left unfinished in my life because I want to entirely focus on having kids when that time comes. I took a long look at my life and thought that if I don’t try and take a shot with the WWE, I would regret it for the rest of my life.

“I want to be an example to my kids about pursuing your dreams and being able to do anything. I guess this is my way of nesting and getting ready for children. I’m trying to prove to my unborn babies that they can accomplish any dream that they want to go after.”

The ex-UFC women’s bantamweight champion also discussed getting slapped by Stephanie McMahon on an episode of RAW:

“I’ve never been slapped before. Anybody who has ever been slapped tells me that it hurts more than you think. Man, when she hauled off and whacked me, my first thought was ‘Wow, that really hurt way more than I thought it would.’ Everyone was right. Slaps suck and there was a loud noise followed by the crowd’s ‘Ooooh!’ I didn’t see that coming at all.”

Rousey also said that she’s looking forward to paying McMahon back for the slap at WrestleMania:

“Oh man, I can’t wait. As they say, revenge is a dish best served cold and I cannot wait to serve her the coldest dish at WrestleMania.”

Stephanie McMahon Calls Jinder Mahal’s WWE Title Run ‘Incredibly Interesting’

Jinder Mahal has had an interesting run with the sports entertainment company.

If you recall, in April of 2011, Mahal made his main roster debut and would eventually find himself as a member of the Three Man Band (3MB) trio alongside McIntyre and Heath Slater. In 2014, however, his run with the WWE came to an end when he was released from his deal.

After he was released from WWE, he returned to the independent circuit for two years where he would reinvent himself creatively and physically before being brought back to WWE around the time of the Superstar Shake-Up. After some time on RAW upon his return, the shake-up moved him over to Tuesday nights on SmackDown Live.

Mahal would win a Six-Pack Challenge match that earned him the status as No. 1-contender for the WWE Championship, which was then-held by Randy Orton who defeated Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 33 for the strap.

Mahal would later beat Orton for the title and held it for several months before losing it to AJ Styles on an episode of WWE SmackDown Live on the USA Network.

Stephanie McMahon recently spoke with the Times of India, and during the interview, she was asked if Mahal’s run as WWE Champion last year was a success. This is what she had to say:

“I think his Championship run was incredibly interesting and successful to our global audience and not just to India. If he became a bit of a hero in India as a result, well that is awesome too… Jinder of course is playing the antagonist here in the States.

I think he was received as a homecoming hero when he performed live in India and whenever there is a local star there is significance to the audience there. Our audience is so much bigger, it is global, so we have to entertain everyone.”

Stephanie McMahon Highlights Burden Of Growing Up With Vince As A Father

While Stephanie McMahon may appear to have a hard-skin, no nonsense attitude in the ring, a recent interview on the Lilian Garcia podcast, Chasing Glory, gave her the opportunity to open up about her experience of bullying as a child.

Stephanie’s most recent onscreen appearance has been alongside Triple H, Kurt Angle and the newly signed Ronda Rousey.

And although she is no-longer living under her father’s shadow, Stephanie admits that it wasn’t always easy being Vince’s daughter.

“I was bullied for being Vince McMahon’s daughter, you know. People either loved me just because I was Vince McMahon’s daughter, or they hated me just because I was Vince McMahon’s daughter. It used to bother me a lot that people would treat me a certain way without knowing who I was, you know. I always felt like, if you got to know me and you don’t like me, that’s fine, but at least get to know me, you know?”

When Stephanie talked to her dad about what she was experiencing, Vince said:

‘Steph, look. It’s a fact of life. Not everybody’s going to like you, but as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror, and look yourself in the eyes and know that you’re a good person, that’s all that matters.’

The RAW commissioner explained that it could be even more tough for her children who will grow up with social media, but she hopes the same advice will see them through.

That’s one of the problems with kayfabe, some don’t know where the act ends and can take things too seriously, especially with the access given by social media and the internet.

Stephanie McMahon Reveals She Was Bullied While Growing Up

WWE’s Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon was Lilian Garcia’s guest on the latest Chasing Glory podcast over at PodcastOne.com. During the conversation, Stephanie spoke about her passion for WWE, her bumpy road to the top of her family’s business, Ronda Rousey joining WWE and more. The episode is available now on PodcastOne Sportsnet and iTunes. Here are some excerpts sent in by the show’s producers:

Ronda Rousey Joining WWE

Garcia: “I’ve just got to ask you about Ronda Rousey. This is pretty exciting. I mean, you guys were in the middle of the ring at Wrestlemania, had an incredible moment with her, and now she is signed to the WWE.”

McMahon: “I think it’s been a dream of ours, and I know of hers, for a very long time…I think it also really speaks to the women’s evolution, and it speaks to the level and caliber of athlete that we have as a part of our roster, that Ronda wants to be a part of this movement. And I think that, you know, Ronda – she wants to earn it. She absolutely wants to work incredibly hard. You talk about a work ethic – holy cow. And she brings this tremendous star power, this incredible talent. I mean, she’s an Olympian. She was the first-ever UFC women’s champion, the first-ever UFC women’s bantamweight champion. What she has meant to the whole rise of women in sports – now she’s bringing all of that to WWE. I couldn’t be more excited for our company, for our roster, for the women’s evolution, and what it’s going to mean for Ronda and WWE.”

Being Bulled As A Child For Being Vince McMahon’s Daughter

McMahon: “I was bullied for being Vince McMahon’s daughter, you know. People either loved me just because I was Vince McMahon’s daughter, or they hated me just because I was Vince McMahon’s daughter. It used to bother me a lot that people would treat me a certain way without knowing who I was, you know. I always felt like, if you got to know me and you don’t like me, that’s fine, but at least get to know me, you know? I talked to my dad a lot about that when I was a kid, and he said, ‘Steph, look. It’s a fact of life. Not everybody’s going to like you, but as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror, and look yourself in the eyes and know that you’re a good person, that’s all that matters.’…that lesson my dad taught me was something I’ll never forget and that I try to pass to my kids…they’re going to have to deal with something I never had to, which is social media.”

Stephanie McMahon Addresses Ronda Rousey, Big Segment Announced For WWE RAW

Stephanie McMahon, Triple H and Kurt Angle were all present during Ronda Rousey’s contract signing during the PPV. Things were going swimmingly until Kurt Angle brought up how Triple H and Stephanie had been claiming that they only brought Ronda Rousey to WWE so that they could manipulate her. Angle claimed that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were still pissed off about what went down at WrestleMania 31 with Ronda Rousey and The Rock. Rousey wound up throwing Triple H through a table tonight at the PPV. Stephanie then slapped Ronda and then retreated backstage. Rousey signed her WWE contract and flipped it onto Triple H who was lying on the canvas.

Following the Elimination Chamber PPV, RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon joined Renne Young and Peter Rosenberg on RAW Talk. Stephanie stated that things got out of hand tonight and that RAW GM Kurt Angle needs to apologize tomorrow night on RAW. Stephanie noted that Rousey got swept up in the emotions of the evening and has some explaining to do tomorrow night.

Stephanie added that she is Rousey and Angle’s boss and that she just has to remind them of their roles in WWE. Stephanie stated that she needed to educate Rousey a little bit and smooth out some of those rough edges. Stephanie claimed that she still proud that that WWE signed Rousey. Renee Young asked if she had spoken to Rousey since she slapped her in the face and Stephanie said that she has not. Stephanie spoke about the first-ever RAW Women’s Elimination Chamber match tonight and said that she was proud of all the women that competed in the match.

Ronda Rousey Takes Out Triple H At WWE Elimination Chamber, Signs Contract (Photos, Videos)

Ronda Rousey signed her RAW contract at tonight’s WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in a segment that also featured RAW General Manager Kurt Angle, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Triple H confirmed during the segment that Rousey will be wrestling at WrestleMania 34. Angle ended up telling Rousey that Triple H and Stephanie have been plotting to keep her down in WWE due to how she embarrassed them at WrestleMania 31. Triple H tried to hush up Angle as he kept spilling their secrets but this backfired as Rousey slammed Triple H through the contract signing table. This led to Stephanie slapping Rousey and retreating before Rousey could get her hands on her.

As we’ve noted, the plan has been for Triple H and Stephanie to face Rousey and a partner at WrestleMania 34. Rumors on Rousey’s partner include The Rock, Angle, Seth Rollins and SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon.

Below are photos and videos from tonight’s segment:

Update on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon Taking Over From Vince McMahon

72-year-old Vince McMahon recently sold $100 million worth of WWE stock in order to invest in his new company, Alpha Entertainment. The company has since announced the planned return of the XFL in 2020.

With news that Vince McMahon is investing in non-WWE projects, it has led to speculation he will be reilinquishing more responsibilities in WWE. According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that is exactly what is taking place behind the scenes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khlfATUQDE8

Report on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon Taking Over WWE

The report in the Observer states the belief backstage is Paul Levesque (Triple H) will be taking over more of Vince McMahon’s responsibilities in the near future. Levesque has already taken over the booking of 205 Live as of late. Jeremy Borash’s hiring in NXT is believed to be part of Triple H putting together “his team”.

Perhaps the biggest sign that Triple H and Stephanie are taking over more of Vince McMahon’s responsibilities is that they were responsible for signing the deal with Ronda Rousey and not Vince.

The report also notes Vince McMahon normally deals with Brock Lesnar’s contract but that could change as well. There is speculation that Triple H and Stephanie could take over that role as well when Lesnar’s contract comes due later this year.

Brock Lesnar Added To Upcoming Raw, Lilian Garcia Lands Magazine Cover, Stephanie McMahon

This will be her third consecutive year at the event, where she talks about WWE, content marketing and how to build a global brand.

WWE Reportedly Using Ronda Rousey To Elevate Stephanie McMahon’s Mainstream Status

The hot topic in the professional wrestling world at the moment is the WWE’s signing of Ronda Rousey to a full-time deal. Rousey made her debut at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) following the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble. She pointed to the WrestleMania 34 sign, indicating her intentions to wrestle at the event.

Per a report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one “key reason” WWE brought the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion in is to help Stephanie McMahon become a bigger mainstream name. While McMahon is a big name in the world of professional wrestling, she isn’t as well known outside the context of WWE. Meltzer noted that although she didn’t fight in 2017, Rousey was still the most searched female athlete in the U.S last year.

The entire goal for a Rousey-Stephanie program is to help elevate McMahon’s mainstream star status outside of the company. The goal was compared to that of how Vince McMahon’s name was made – through his feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin. And Austin’s rise in mainstream media came with the help of his feud with Mike Tyson.

This explains why WWE is planning a Mixed Tag Team match between Rousey and a mystery partner (WWE hopes that can be The Rock) against the team of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 34.

WWE Announces First-Ever Women’s Elimination Chamber Match

Stephanie McMahon kicked off this week’s week’s edition of Monday Night Raw with a major announcement. Next month, the RAW Women’s Championship will be on the line in the first-ever Women’s Elimination Chamber match.

Alexa Bliss will defend her title against 5 other competitors still to be determined.

The men’s Elimination Chamber match to determine Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania opponent will also feature 6 competitors. Qualifying matches for that match will take place over the next two weeks.

WWE Elimination Chamber 2018 takes place on Sunday, February 25th from Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena.

“I would love to do it,” Stephanie said when asked if she would like to return to the ring. “I think anytime I have the opportunity to be physical in the ring, it’s a privilege for me. So if, you know, the storyline and our audience demands it, then, of course, I’m going to give it to them.”

The Commissioner of Monday Night Raw also discussed tonight’s Royal Rumble event, her match with Brie Bella at SummerSlam 2014, Raw 25, Ronda Rousey and more.

– Natalya, Carmella, and Bayley are guests on the latest edition of Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia as they discuss the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match. Becky Lynch is also on the show as Lilian Garcia’s co-host. You can listen to the interview on PodcastOne or iTunes.

The competition started with New Day singing “Motownphilly” by Boyz II Men. Jimmy Fallon went with “Billy Don’t You Lose My Number” by Phil Collins. As for Stephanie and Triple H, they ended up singing “How Far I’ll Go” from the Moana soundtrack, even though Triple H had wanted “Seek and Destroy” by Metallica. He got into it by the end, though.

Triple H & Stephanie McMahon Comment On Rich Swann’s Domestic Abuse Charges

Last month former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann was arrested for an incident that occurred between himself and his wife. Swann’s wife, Vannarah Riggs (aka Su Yung), competed at a FEST wrestling event earlier in the night and was being critiqued by Swann while riding together in a car. Things got heated and Riggs got out of the vehicle as it was still in motion. Swann stopped the car and chased Riggs down before forcing her back into the car via headlock.

Swann was subsequently arrested for the incident. In late December Swann’s wife posted a picture indicating that she and Swann had made-up:
