Ric Flair Addresses WWE 2K14 Symposium Controversy, Rey Mysterio Note, More

-As noted recently, part one of the Ric Flair interview on the “Steve Austin Show” is available online. The following is a quote from the interview, where Flair addresses the controversy stemming from his behavior at the recent WWE 2K14 symposium.

Flair said, ” don’t know what happened last night. They told me to entertain ’em and I did. But apparently it wasn’t received the way it was supposed to be. The people who are running the game loved it but the problem is corporate WWE gets mad at me, number one, which upsets me because I love the company and respect them so much. I guess we just drifted and told stories and they wanted the focus of the evening to be about the game.”

Check out part one of the interview online at PodcastOne.com.

-WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio will be making a personal appearance at the Sports Arena Home Depot in San Diego on August 24th from 1-3pm. The first 300 fans to show up will get to meet Mysterio and receive a custom mask and autograph.

Steve Austin Speaks On Being Angry In WWE, Wrestlers Hating “What?” Chants & More

The following are highlights from a recent Sam Roberts interview with WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin:

Seeming happy now and if he was an angry guy during his peak with WWE:

“There’s been so many times that people think I’m mad all the time because Stone Cold was always anti-authority or against the system during the peak of my run in WWF… But as a human being or just in life, I’m the happiest guy in the world.

“When you’re selling out 20,000 seat arenas every single night of the week, it doesn’t matter what night of the week it is, there’s nothing to be mad at. When you go get your paycheck, there’s a reason to be happy. It’s funny, I go into so many meetings and people think I’m going to be mad, ticked of, not have a sense of humor or drunk. A lot of the things that Stone Cold did on the air, but that was a character. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of me is in that character, but it’s not me as a human being.”

Wrestlers being upset with fans chanting “What?!” during promos:

“The fact that my presence is still felt, or my influence is still felt, it’s an honor and a privilege… Everybody always says ‘What?!’ ruins everybody else’s promos. It does not! If you leave that gap in between your sentences, your words, your phrasing… don’t interrupt your cadence and give them that end for the ‘What?!’ If you just keep talking, just like I’m doing, I don’t give you a chance to say it.”

Jim Ross Q&A: Austin vs. Punk In WWE, Owen Hart In WWE HOF?, Politics In WWE

The following are highlights from a recent Q&A with WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On rumors that he was drunk at the WWE 2K14 symposium: “I wasn’t but thanks for asking.”

On Daniel Bryan not holding the WWE Championship for any real length of time: “I think Bryan is more popular today than he ever has been. I’ll enjoy the chase.”

On whether or not Bill Watts ever owned a part of Georgia Championship Wrestling, and talent-sharing in those days: “WATTS at one time owned a piece of Georgia. Talent trades were not unusual in those days either way. JYD & others wrestled in Atlanta.”

On what The Undertaker’s reaction was following the infamous Hell In A Cell match at King Of The Ring 1998: “That was 15 years ago. I really don’t recall. He was likely spent.”

On chances of a Steve Austin vs. CM Punk match in WWE: “Seems like that ship has sailed but I’m merely guessing. I’d love to see it.”

On politics in WWE: “I think politics are overrated and discussed usually on hearsay & by disgruntled individuals. Cream always rises to the top w/ few exceptions.”

On the subject of wrestling newsletters back in the day: “Newsletters weren’t a big topic of open discussion back in the day. Most guys tried to distance themselves from wrestling while traveling.”

On who will replace John Cena as the face of WWE and if a “streak” storyline would work: “I’d say Daniel Bryan is next man up. Don’t see Streak launching a new face of WWE.”

On if Owen Hart will ever be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame: “Likely so. Don’t know when.”

On the career of “Rugged” Ronnie Garvin: “Ronnie was a tough, highly skilled, intelligent in ring talent. Also a pilot. I thought the sharpshooter was a Japanese submission.”

On past WWE Divas in the new WWE 2K14 video game: “I’m not aware of the Diva involvement. Sorry.”

Part One Of “Steve Austin Show” With Ric Flair, IWGP Jr. Tag-Titles To Be Defended In ROH

-Part one of the episode of the “Steve Austin Show” everyone has been waiting for is finally available, for free, online. The first installment of a three-hour interview between WWE Hall Of Famers “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair can be heard at PodcastOne.com.

-ROH recently announced that the IWGP Jr. Tag-Team Titles from New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) will be defended at their “Death Before Dishonor” event on September 20th in Philadelphia.

ROH issued the following:

HISTORY IN THE MAKING…
The IWGP Jr. Tag Titles To Be Defended In Philly!

It has been over a year since the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles were defended in the United States, coincidentally by The Forever Hooligans during their very first reign as champions. In fact, in the 15 year history of the championships, a Stateside defense is something that has only happened on four occasions. That will change on September 20th when Ring of Honor comes to Philadelphia for “Death Before Dishonor XI”!

On that night, in a bout officially sanctioned by New Japan Pro Wrestling, the current IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions The Forever Hooligans (Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero) will make their third title defense against The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards)!

“It is an honor to have this IWGP championship match taking place during our Philadelphia event.” said ROH Match Maker Nigel McGuinness, “It will already be an historic night as we crown a brand new World Champion and now, with the addition of this New Japan sanctioned bout, September 20, 2013 will be a night that wrestling fans around the world will remember forever. These are two of the finest tag teams in the world today and if their previous encounters are any indication, this contest could be a show-stealer!”

The history of these two units is well known. From Rocky & Davey’s championships days together in ROH as part of The No Remorse Corps to their days teaming in New Japan where they also claimed the IWGP Jr. Tag Titles to the athletic rivalry that has sprung up in 2013 between The Wolves and The Hooligans, these four men have proven time and again that tag team wrestling is alive and well in both ROH and NJPW.

Now, in a rivalry that has been dominated by The Wolves and has already seen the ROH World Tag Team Titles change hands back at “All Star Extravaganza V”, Davey, Eddie, Rocky, and Alex will collide one more time on 9/20 and the prestigious IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles will be on the line! Plus, win or lose, The Hooligans will also be in action on 9/21 as part of the “Ring of Honor Wrestling” TV Tapings!

“Death Before Dishonor XI” weekend will go down in history as one of the most important in ROH history and with addition of this IWGP Jr. Tag Title match, it just became even more important! Do not miss out as history is made in Philadelphia! Tickets on-sale now!!!

Update On Ric Flair/WWE Situation, New Steve Austin Show, Total Divas Rating

Steve Austin Talks Tough Enough & Ric Flair Appearing On His Podcast

WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin spoke to Variety.com this week to hype SummerSlam and the new WWE 2K14 video game. During the interview, Austin spoke about being “pissed off” that the show never got an additional season.

“When that show didn’t come back, I was pissed off,” Austin said. “It was a great show. The numbers were very good. We had a great time doing it. Why they didn’t bring it back still baffles me to this day because I loved doing that show. It was a great way to be in the business I know and love without having to be in the ring taking lumps.”

Steve also plugged his podcast which will feature Ric Flair as a special guest this week.

“Whether’s it one hour or six hours or whatever, he’s my favorite pro-wrestler of all time,” Austin said. “I had a wonderful career that I’m proud of, but when I look in the dictionary of pro-wrestler, I see the picture of Ric Flair. WWE SummerSlam Spoilers

CM Punk Talks Brock Lesnar, Undertaker, Steve Austin Wrestling Again

WWE Superstar CM Punk spoke to Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated this week to hype Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Buildup To His Match Against Brock Lesnar: I think we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing. We’re selling tickets and we’re selling pay-per views. I think behind the scenes a lot of people want to see this match and I’m excited for it. It’s not every day you get to wrestle somebody that can push you and make you better. I think there’s a lot of eyes on us that normally wouldn’t be because people want to see what I can do. It’s an interesting dynamic.

The Challenges Fighting Brock Lesnar: There are always going to be detractors who will say I don’t look like I’ll be able to hang with Brock Lesnar. But Brock’s a freak of nature and I don’t know anybody who looks like they can “hang” with Brock Lesnar. But anyone can be choked out in seven seconds.

His Match Against The Undertaker At WrestleMania: I think everybody is always selling me short and then I always prove them wrong. It keeps me pissed off and that’s where I need to be, I guess. I’m sick and tired of pulling main event matches and not being in the main event at WrestleMania. Eventually it’s just gonna get to the point of, “OK, I deserve to play with this toy, you’re not gonna let me play with it, then I’m gonna find some other toys to play with.” It gets me down when I really think about it and analyze it, but in the end it keeps me sharp and like I said, pissed off. But I don’t think I’m the guy you want pissed off forever.

If He Voices These Concerns To Vince McMahon: : Absolutely. All the time. We have conversations about it. Hell, if you’re in this business and don’t want to be in the main event at WrestleMania you shouldn’t be in this business. This past WrestleMania, I proved it to the one person that I needed to prove it to, that I should’ve been in the main event. I’ve shattered every negative stereotype people had about me. I proved to the one person that mattered that last year’s main event should’ve been mine and that person is me and I don’t give a sh-t about anyone else.

Who He Wants To Wrestle:  I’m in a very unique position. I can have a viable WrestleMania main event with anyone. I can do it with John Cena. I can do it with Daniel Bryan. I can do it with The Undertaker. I can do it with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

If Steve Austin Will Wrestle Again: Yeah, my gut tells me that he will. Whether he makes the right decision or not to wrestle me is up to him.

Punk vs. Austin Seeming Like A Big Money Dream Match: You would hope. They tend to miss the mark on a lot of common sense stuff sometimes.

If He Would Ever Do His Own Reality Show: Reality show? What the hell is reality TV any way? It’s as scripted as anything. I wouldn’t want my life acted out on television in some weird drama. If somebody wants to follow me around with a camera, I do think my life is pretty entertaining on its own without trying to spice it up. But it doesn’t sound like anything I’d sign up for. I do like the small sliver of privacy I’m afforded.

Steve Austin Interview: Daniel Bryan Having The “It Factor”, Cena’s In-Ring Work & More

Stone Cold Steve Austin gives his thoughts on Daniel Bryan, Cena, and Ring of Honor in an Interview on AfterBuzz TV

Los Angeles, CA –(afterbuzztv.com)– “Stone Cold” Steve Austin made an appearance on AfterBuzz TV’s Smackdown and Redneck Island aftershows Sunday night. In his appearance, Austin gives his thoughts on Daniel Bryan, John Cena and Ring of Honor. He also talks about how the industry has changed since his time. Links to Steve Austin’s interview can be found at YouTube & iTunes.

Here’s what Steve Austin said about:

How Wrestling Has Changed: “It’s a different game out there right now. These kids aren’t getting enough time to tell the whole story….the product inside the ring is at a more accelerated pace, so what comes with that is not total selling of everything you can sell. You do something to elicit a response…It’s a short attention span theater and guys are moving faster than I’d like them to be, they’re overselling a lot of stuff in the wrong way and underselling stuff in the wrong way as well,” says Austin, “Everybody seems to be coming from the same camp these days. That has its pros and its cons.”

Ring of Honor: “I like Ring of Honor, but sometimes these guys overwork themselves and try to go too much into the nuances, the shoulder slapping and the pulling up of the trunks, you know the little time fillers…They almost go back to a caricature of what was real deal wrestling. I do like the product.”

Daniel Bryan Having The “It Factor”: “You’ve got to have it. You look at a cat like Daniel Brian, who is a hard worker, can wrestler, can tell a great story. The it factor was undiscovered. It has been discovered and now this kid is having great success with super strong talent.”

John Cena’s Ring Work: “Cena can have a great match with anybody, but he needs somebody who can bring it out of him.”

Jim Ross Q&A: Total Divas Scripted?, Austin’s Infamous Walk-Out, Lawler, More

The following are highlights from yet another Q&A from the official website of WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On whether or not Total Divas is scripted: “What reality show on TV isn’t scripted to some degree? I can answer that…none of them that I’ve seen.”

On working with Jerry Lawler: “Jerry is very easy to work with and is a light hearted, fun person to be around. He’s like family to me.”

On whether or not WWE will run a second season of Total Divas: “A 2nd season of Total Divas likely depends on how the first season goes.”

On Steve Austin’s infamous walk-out on WWE in 2002: “Steve had a legit issue but I felt like he handled it wrong.”

What a hassle! ;-)” The tweet was accompanied by a photo of Hardy holding up a sign that sarcastically read, “You don’t understand how hard it is to be Matt Hardy.”

-“WrestleMania” trended worldwide during the airing of the WrestleMania 29 special on NBC on Saturday night. “WrestleMania” reached as high as the number two spot, trailing only “#UFC163,” which trended worldwide at number one throughout most of the entire UFC pay-per-view show from Brazil on Saturday night.

BREAKING NEWS: Major Change Made To WWE SummerSlam PPV Lineup

Jim Ross Blog: Steve Austin’s Opinion Of John Cena, WM30 Main Event & More

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com.

In this installment, JR once again stated that he does not believe John Cena will ever turn heel, gave his thoughts on the premiere of Total Divas and said that he doesn’t watch TNA or ROH on a regular basis. Here are some highlights of what he wrote about:

Steve Austin’s Opinion Of John Cena “Being a former head of talent relations, I’d take a locker room full of John Cena types as it relates to work ethic, passion, toughness, dedication, reliability and heart all day long. Those that can’t see that likely haven’t left their Mommy’s breakfast table yet. I know that @steveaustinBSR feels much the same way.”

WrestleMania 30 Main Event: “… Whatever is positioned as the main event of that event outside the Undertaker’s Streak match, which I feel will happen in New Orleans, will be hard pressed to outshine the advance publicity and anticipation for the Deadman’s next challenge. I’m unaware of how many more Streak matches in which the Undertaker will compete but I personally take it one year at a time and always look at each WrestleMania/Taker match as possibly his last one. In other words, for me, WWE would have to book an out of this world main event to over shadow The Streak match at WrestleMania for this fan. I hope that both happens.”

As always, you can buy JR’s amazing line of BBQ products at WWEShop.com.

Steve Austin Speaks On The Shield Breaking Up, Offers Advice To John Cena, More

WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was recently interviewed by AfterBuzzTV.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Shield Breking Up: “They’re gonna break up The Shield one of these days after these guys get a little more seasoned…The guys are still great in the business and they have wonderful potential.”

John Cena: “Here’s the thing about John Cena…that guy’s walking on the edge of a razor blade. Some people love to hate him, some people love to love him. But let me tell you something about John Cena; they all respect him. That guy has done a tremendous job for that company. He’s a guy that always shows up, he’ll work in pain, he always has a smile on his face. He goes to the nth degree to promote that brand. I’ve got nothing but respect for that guy. Really the way the fans take him. Some people say, ‘Would you please stop pushing this guy down our throat?’ But they’re not. He’s the face of the company. What do you do? Make number one the Blistering Heel? I tried that back in the day and I was Stone Cold. I was that grey area between black and white. Cena’s the face of the company, you don’t do that. When you turn down the cameras, the lights…he’s the face of the company. John Cena is a young veteran. He’s been in the ring, he’s told some great stories, he’s had a lot of high profile matches. He’s a young man, but he’s a veteran. You gotta work smarter, not harder. John, take care of your body.”

Getting back in the Gym following Surgery: “Right now I haven’t been workin’ out too much. I had a few set backs, but to answer your question [I work out] usually 5-6 days a week. Normally, I’m in there for about an hour and if things are going well I will add in 30 mins of cardio. I live about 2 miles from Gold’s [Gym]. I’ve been training there for many years, but I started training at a little hole in the wall place when I was healing up my shoulder a couple year’s ago.”
