That same year, he signed with WCW as a commentator, and earned the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s worst TV announcer award of 1996. Shortly after, he transitioned into an in-ring role the following year and captured the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship in 1997.

It was just over a week ago when Steve “Mongo” Michael would finally get the news that he’d be inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame along with two other former Chicago Bears players. The news officially broke during last week’s NFL Honors ceremony.

Mongo notoriously played a primary role in the vaunted Super Bowl-winning 1985 Chicago Bears defense. McMichael is the second all-time sacks leader in Bears history and in addition to having a Super Bowl ring, he’s a four-time All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler.
