D’Angelo Dinero Officially Removed From 2012 BFG Series

TNA’s official site has announced that “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero is officially out of the 2012 Bound For Glory Series.

Last week at Hardcore Justice, The Aces and 8s viciously attacked Dinero, particularly his shoulder, rendering him unable to compete that night in his scheduled Bound For Glory Series match. Following a visit to the doctor, Dinero said he would be sidelined for a few months. Enclosing an image of a broken collarbone, Dinero tweeted, “Looks like Pope will be out of action for a couple months. Damn You Aces & Apes!!! ~PHS.”

Dinero’s news has caused Impact Wrestling to officially eliminate him from the remainder of the Bound For Glory Series. In this year’s format, every wrestler was scheduled to face everyone in the tournament. Dinero had three matches left to compete in, against AJ Styles, Rob Van Dam and Robbie E.

ImpactWrestling.com says Sting will make a decision regarding the matter and those matches tomorrow night on Impact Wrestling on Spike TV at 8/7c.

Songwriter Files Lawsuit Against WWE Over WCW Theme Songs

A licensing inquiry by THQ led one songwriter to file a federal lawsuit against WWE, WWE-owned company Stephanie Music Publishing, Inc., WWE employee Michael Seitz (a/k/a Michael “P.S.” Hayes) and WWE employee James Alan Johnston (a/k/a Jim Johnston). According to a lawsuit filed by songwriter James D. Papa, the sports entertainment organization redirected royalty payments to several wrestling related songs he either wrote or co-wrote by securing the rights to music unlawfully.

The songs in question are featured in the 1992 WCW compilation album Slam Jam 1 and were used as entrance themes by wrestlers. The songs include “Badstreet USA” (The Fabulous Freebirds), “Don’t Step To Ron” (Ron Simmons), “Man Called Sting” (Sting), “Mr. Bang Bang” (Cactus Jack), “Master of the DDT” (Jake “The Snake” Roberts), “Freebird Forever” (The Fabulous Freebirds), “Simply Ravishing” (“Ravishing” Rick Rude), “Johnny B. Badd,” “The Natural” (“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes) “The Dragon” (Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat), “He’s Smokin” (Barry Windham) and “Steinerized” (The Steiner Brothers).

Papa says he was contacted by video-game company THQ for permission to license “Badstreet USA” for its Legends of WrestleMania title that was released in March 2009. The lawsuit alleges, “THQ’s records showed the song to be owned by World Wrestling Entertainment.” The suit continues:

“As a result of the confusion, Papa contacted BMI to ensure that ‘Badstreet USA’ was properly registered to him and his companies. Upon his investigation, Papa learned that ‘Badstreet USA’ had been improperly and erroneously reregistered by Defendants and been given a new registration number, resulting in the royalties being redirected to Defendants. Eventually, through working with BMI, Papa was able to correct the registration to properly reflect his ownership in the work. However, by the time the registration was corrected, THQ had decided not to use the song.”

The suit says, “His investigation revealed a systematic pattern of errors and omissions by WWE personnel that effectively misappropriated Papa’s musical works and deprived the Plaintiffs of royalty payments that would have been paid but for these errors and omissions.” According to BMI.com, “Mr. Bang Bang” has two separate registration numbers: one for Papa, another that credits James Alan Johnston as songwriter and Stephanie Music Publishing as publisher. Johnston is WWE’s longtime music composer while Stephanie Music Publishing is a company owned by Vince McMahon that was named after his daughter, Stephanie.

Papa says his songs have appeared on myriad places including numerous video releases, broadcasts of cable television shows and on-demand programming, without his permission and without receiving financial compensation. He is seeking royalties paid (plus pre- and post- judgment interest) on the sale of videos, computer games, the sale or licensing of ring tones, and the broadcasts of cable television shows and on-demand programming; a preliminary and permanent injunction to halt the use of the copyrighted materials; an order directing the named defendants to file a report detailing how they have complied with the injunction; reimbursement for legal fees; and a trial by jury where the court will determine damages. He also wants the court to certify that he owns the rights to the music.

The entire complaint is available here.

Hogan & Sting Teaming At BFG, Dixie Carter On Real Housewives?

– TNA recently announced that Bound for Glory on October 14th will take place from Phoenix, Arizona at the Grand Canyon University Arena. The basketball arena typically holds 5,000 fans. Capacity will be closer to 3,500 when the stage is set up.

There is talk of Sting and Hulk Hogan teaming up against the new Aces & Eights mystery group that attacked Sting and have been taunting Hogan on Twitter. Even though Hogan is extremely limited in what he can do in the ring, Sting could work most of the match and Hogan could get in a few of his signature spots in what would be a “special attraction” match.

– TNA President Dixie Carter could be crossing over into the world of reality television. The production company behind “Real Housewives” of Beverly Hills and Orange County are working on a new “Real Housewives of Nashville” and Dixie Carter is one of the women under consideration for the show. Due to her high profile, she’s in the top tier of candidates and there’s a good chance she’ll be cast.

Sting’s Mystery Attackers Taunting Hulk Hogan On Twitter

As previously reported the group that attacked Sting on Impact Wrestling several weeks ago have set up a Twitter account and are calling themselves “Aces and Eights.”

The group has been taunting Hulk Hogan on Twitter in recent days, including a countdown that culminates on Thursday:

They also tweeted a video clip from Impact when an unidentified person delivered the envelope containing the cards and a message to Hogan:

New Destination X Match Announced, Identities Of New X Talent

Sting’s Mystery Attackers, “King” Mo Lawal’s Status, Tessmacher

– Sting will be off television for several weeks as a result of last week’s attack by three mystery men. TNA has not yet decided who will be revealed as the masked attackers and it’s possible that TNA will not immediately follow up on the angle. The general feeling is that the segment did not come across well on television, but was done to explain why Sting is not part of the Bound For Glory series.

– During a recent interview with MMAJunkie.com, Bellator MMA & TNA Wrestling star “King” Mo Lawal said he’ll be reporting to Ohio Valley Wrestling (TNA developmental) in approximately two months. Lawal says his injured knee should be close to 100% by then.

He also revealed that he’ll be training with WWE Announcer Booker T in the coming weeks and wants UFC fighter Rampage Jackson to be his tag team partner in TNA. Jackson is one of many UFC fighters that has expressed interest in a pro wrestling career once his MMA fighting days are over, but we have not heard anything about Rampage talking with TNA (or WWE, for that matter).

– TNA Knockouts champion Miss Tessmacher did not compete in this year’s Hooters pageant last Saturday, despite being advertised. Instead, she worked a TNA live event from Orlando.

– Sting was announced as the first inductee into TNA’s Hall of Fame at Sunday’s TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view. The official induction ceremony will take place at the Bound For Glory pay-per-view in October. The belief in TNA is that more than one person will be inducted at Bound For Glory – and Sting will be the head of the first class.

Dixie Carter’s announcement that Sting would be the first inductee was a surprise to virtually everybody in TNA. Neither Sting or Hulk Hogan knew about the news before Sunday.

– TNA has released the following promo video for their next pay-per-view on July 8th, Destination X:

Sting Talks Retirement, Almost Signing With WWE, Undertaker

TNA star Sting participated in a conference call on Wednesday to promote this weekend’s Slammiversary pay-per-view. Here are some highlights:

– Sting said he was very close to signing with WWE before last year’s WrestleMania. He was looking forward to wrestling the Undertaker and said he was surprised the deal didn’t come together. Aside from a few younger stars in TNA, Undertaker was one of the few remaining people he wanted to wrestle before retiring.

– He has talking with a publisher about writing an autobiography.

– When asked about the future top stars of TNA, he named Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, James Storm and Magnus.

– Once he retires, he’s interested in working for TNA behind the scenes, possibly in a creative role.

– Sting plans to retire with TNA. Every year, he expects it will be his last, but he finds it hard to walk away when TNA is “not quite there” in terms of being a company that can truly compete with WWE. His interest and motivation have gone up in the last year.

– When asked about the TNA Hall of Fame, Sting says he should not be the first inductee because guys like Jeff Jarrett and AJ Styles are far more deserving.
