Steve Austin Believes Modern Wrestling Has “Regressed”

WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has argued that the modern in-ring product has regressed over recent years as the business has “sped up.”

Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, Austin addressed his take on the current landscape of pro wrestling.

“There’s a lot of demand for new people in the business, so sometimes they’re not as honed up as they need to be, so you see a lot of holes out there,” he stated. “It’s not an indictment on the system or anybody because you still have your veterans out there doing a lot of solid work and people doing athletic things and that’s cool, but the work – the work – has regressed as things have sped up, just as far as being able to see through the illusion.”

He continued, “When you’re green, you think bumping is the ticket. I’ve got to bump a lot because that’s what’s going to elicit a response,’ or ‘taking bumps is the ticket,’ or ‘that’s the way to do it.’ Eh, it’s a means to an end and there needs to be a reason that you’re taking all those bumps. The biggest mistake that green guys make is doing things too fast.

Austin further explained how the second biggest mistake current talent makes are their willingness to take too many bumps. He claims nobody wants to give the bumps, they all want to impress management and fans by taking them. He noted, however, that bumps are great as long as they serve a purpose and are used only when they are needed.

Steve Austin recently began working with WWE again on a new studio interview series titled, ‘Steve Austin: The Broken Skull Sessions.’ The first episode featured a lengthy discussion with The Undertaker. It aired after November’s Survivor Series pay-per-view.

Austin recently confirmed that Bill Goldberg will be his next guest. The episode with Goldberg premieres this Sunday night (December 15th) immediately following WWE’s Tables, Ladders & Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view.

Steve Austin Recalls Being Given His First Scripted Promo In WWE

WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has recalled the first time he was expected to deliver a scripted promo. Speaking with National Wrestling Alliance’s Eli Drake on his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, Austin looked back on coming back from surgery only to have a script presented to him by Vince McMahon.

“I’ll never forget when I came back from getting my neck fused, C3 and C4, in ’99 or whenever it was,” Austin recalled. “And when I left, we were cutting promos just like I told [Drake], man, you kind of go out there and it was what it was. You might have a bullet point or two, or someone might say, ‘hey man, remember this’ or whatever, but you go out there and you cut a promo.”

He continued, “When I came back, that’s when the papers started coming around. And all-of-a-sudden, man, I’ll never forget […] I was in a room with Vince, and, well, somebody had to track me down. I was watching matches. ‘Hey man, Vince wants to go through this promo with you’ and so, just like this piece of paper here, and I said, ‘Vince… when I get my hands on you… I… am… going… to… tear… you… limb… from… limb…'”

Austin explained how Vince expected him to deliver an “A-promo.” He pushed back, however, believing he wouldn’t be able to. He shared how the “Stone Cold” character was clearly missing from the words he was given. He shared how nothing helps him inhabit “Stone Cold” more than when the red light is on for the cameras, and he’s in front of a live crowd.

Stone Cold Steve Austin On If He Was Nervous Interviewing The Undertaker

The debut episode of the Broken Skull Sessions hosted by Stone Cold Steve Austin which aired after Survivor Series saw the WWE Hall Of Famer interviewing the Undertaker.

Prior to the airing of the premiere episode of the new series, WWE posted a promo video promoting the show on YouTube in which Steve Austin talked about his experience of interviewing the Phenom.

When asked if he felt nervous on having the legendary Dead Man as the first guest of his show, the Texas Rattlesnake replied positively saying that he was indeed a little bit nervous:

“Well, yeah, a little bit, I’m not going to lie to you, it’s the first one out of the gate, I’m used to my one man podcast, shootin’ the breeze, all of sudden you throw in all the production values that WWE throws in and it looks like a million bucks.

It takes it to a whole another level, so you want to do the best you can, but also you’re taken aback just a little bit. I think we worked through that and I’m proud of it.”

Apart from this Steve Austin also talked about how Taker has shown incredible toughness in his time in the business, their interview turning into a long Broken Skull session and more.

The debut episode of the Broken Skull Sessions saw The Undertaker talking about his health after 30 years in the wrestling business, his start in the industry and more.

Steve Austin Explains Why Brock Lesnar Is “The Guy”

WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin believes that Brock Lesnar is “the guy” in WWE.

Speaking on the State of Combat podcast, Austin was asked to name who he believes is the best wrestler of the past decade. He pointed to Lesnar’s impact and “it factor” as two contributing factors adding to his decision.

“With Brock, you can say ‘part-time’ or this or whatever, but when Brock goes to the ring, I still get a sense of danger or I sense that I don’t really know what he is going to do,” Austin said. “How often does he go to Suplex City? How bad did he really hurt somebody? What’s he going to do to this opponent or what is he going to do to dismantle him?”

He continued, “Brock Lesnar creates more questions in my mind than anybody else who has walked into the ring for the last 10 years, no question in my mind. Cena is up there with the top of the top, but moving past that, Brock Lesnar, when he walks into an arena or steps into an Octagon, you always wonder what’s going to happen with that guy. He might not be around as much as many people would like, but as far as impact and pure ‘I have to watch this match’ factor, it’s hard to say a guy other than him.”

Austin’s new show, The Broken Skull Sessions, premieres this Sunday on the WWE Network.

Rumor Killer On Stone Cold Steve Austin Wrestling At Crown Jewel

Former World Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin recently made some interesting comments about his future when he claimed that he is fit enough to have one more match.

These comments from the Texas Rattle Snake made some fans wonder if they were an indication of Austin being brought back for a match soon, presumably at the upcoming Saudi Arabian PPV. However, latest reports suggest that this is not the case.

According to reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is nothing to the rumors of Stone Cold returning to ring for the upcoming Saudi Arabian PPV.

The former Champion is currently not booked for the event called Crown Jewel taking place on October 31 later this month and this situation is not expected to change.

Though this doesn’t necessarily mean that Stone Cold Steve Austin won’t be returning to the ring at all and he can very well be brought back for a future Saudi show or an event like WrestleMania.

It’s worth mentioning here that Austin is not the only star who is being subjected to such rumors and after announcing his retirement from podcast, Edge has also become a point of discussion.

He recently signed a new deal with WWE and new reports suggest that there have been internal talks of the former World Champion possibly wrestling again. You can check out a detailed report on the matter here.

Steve Austin Offers Advice To Current WWE Superstars

WWE Hall of Famer ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin has shared some advice for WWE’s current roster of Superstars.

In an interview with SI.com, ‘The Rattlesnake’ spoke about the importance of connecting with fans through emotion. He explained that if the WWE Universe doesn’t care, then they have no reason to watch.

“Emotion sells tickets and draws ratings,” Austin explained. “If you don’t care, then why watch? If you care, you’re invested in those characters. So slow it down a little bit.”

He continued, “You can move as fast as you want in the ring, but to me, the business is built on characters, emotions, and depth. When you have great action on top of it, that’s even better. Right now, those guys and gals are operating at such a high speed and high level of athleticism. It can’t get any higher than it is right now, so they need to keep finding ways to make people care about them. That will elevate the business and make it resonate with the audience.”

Another former WWE Superstar, Ryback, also recently vocalized his concerns over the lack of psychology and emotion.

WWE goes head-to-head with All Elite Wrestling’s Dynamite TNT premiere this Wednesday night. It will be the first time the two shows compete.

Stone Cold Steve Austin Says He Not Going Back To Road Full Time

Stone Cold Steve Austin recently spoke to TV Insider, where he discussed things like having NJPW Star Lance Archer on his show, his experience of hosting reality shows and more.

Steve Austin has made a couple of appearances for WWE recently. Not only did he return to Raw for the recent Reunion special but he also made a special appearance at this week’s episode of the show from Madison Square Garden.

While talking about his return to WWE programming, the former Champion revealed that it was planned well in advance. However, he made it clear that he has no intention of going back to the road full time:

“It’s just something that is happening. It’s not like I’m going to go back on the road full-time or anything, it’s some good opportunities. It makes sense TV-wise, business-wise. I’m there to lend a hand or help out as much as I can.”

Steve went on to say that going back to MSG felt like a homecoming because WWE’s headquarters is in Stanford, Connecticut and so they always considered it to be their backyard.

Apart from this Stone Cold Steve Austin also talked about his return saying that he has been away for a long time and so he wants the young talents to get all the TV time.

However, he is okay to go out there and give someone a rub or go there in front of a crowd that was there when he was active and who wants to see him again. You can check out his full interview at this link.

Steve Austin Talks About RAW’s Return To Madison Square Garden

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin enjoyed a homecoming to Madison Square Garden during last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW. In the run-up to his appearance, where he participated in a contract signing between WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman, Austin spoke with SI.com about coming back to MSG.

“Walking through those doors at the Garden is still special for me,” said Austin. “That’s the WWE’s backyard. Even though they’ve been away for a couple of years, that’s a very special building to Vince.”

Austin reflected on how some of the most iconic moments of his career took place at Madison Square garden, including delivering his first-ever Stone Cold Stunner on Vince McMahon in 1997. He shared that the MSG crowd is a “tough” audience, but “if you can win them over, you’ve really done something. It’s a crowd that you’ve got to work really hard for to earn their respect, and I love that about that building.”

Leaving The Garden

The passionate crowd had a very different reaction to you depending on whether you were a heel or babyface, as Austin recalled incidents with fans ripping mirrors in the heat of the moment.

“I remember when the business got so hot back in the day that when you would drive your rental car into the Garden, the fans would line up and wait for you on the way out,” Austin stated. “Depending on how over you were as a babyface or how much heat you had as a heel, they would tear off your side-view mirrors and rip off your antennas. People tearing up your automobile was almost like your reward for being over or having heat. We didn’t like it, but that was how it was. And eventually it started meaning something to us.”

He added how Vince McMahon would always be in attendance for WWE shows at MSG, even house shows. When he did, Austin added that everyone worked even harder than they already were because they knew Vince was watching them.

Video: Steve Austin Delivers Another Stunner After RAW

This week’s episode of Raw did not have any dark matches after the show but the fans did get to see another Stone Cold Steve Austin stunner after the episode got over.

The opening segment of Raw saw AJ Styles and the OC interrupting the contract signing between Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman moderated by The Texas Rattlesnake.

After a lot of trash talk from Styles, Strowman and Rollins attacked the Club and the segment ended with Stone Cold delivering his signature stunner to the Phenomenal One.

Austin came out once again later in the night and he celebrated with Cedric Alexander, The Viking Raiders, Braun Strowman, and Seth Rollins after they defeated the team of The Club, Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode in the main event of the show.

The show went off air with the Hall Of Famer celebrating a beer bath with everyone but he stayed around afterward and called AJ Styles back in the ring.

The former World Champion then went on to praise Styles and expressed the desire to share a cold one with the former TNA Star, saying that he respects everything AJ has done.

The two then shook hands and shared a beer but Stone Cold Steve Austin still delivered a second stunner of the night to Styles to close the segment:

Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman will now face each other for the Universal Championship at Sunday’s Clash Of Champions PPV. You can check out the full match card for the event here.

Steve Austin Reflects On Drinking With Ric Flair At RAW Reunion

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin recently had WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair join him on his podcast, The Steve Austin Show. The two reminisced on their time together on WWE’s recent RAW Reunion show. They also spoke about what could have happened had they feuded while in their prime.

Austin explained that he and Flair were drinking, hanging out, and sharing stories in the run-up to RAW Reunion. He added that, once Flair started telling stories, he wouldn’t want to “tap out” from hearing one of the greats.

“I Don’t Care What The Doctors Say”

“Yeah, I was talking about the RAW reunion a little bit, and I said, ‘Man, I was down there at the bar with Flair and Flair was telling stories, so if Flair’s telling stories, I’m not going to tap out. I’m going to keep drinking!’ And then, people started jumping on [Flair’s] ass saying, ‘Well, Ric Flair’s not supposed to be drinking.’ I saw [Flair] nurse about two or three Bud Lights and Bud Light is about as light as you can get in the alcohol category, and [Flair] nursed them all night long.” Austin explained.

“Well, let me tell you something about the next day. I was kind of hungover the next day because I always pace myself here at the house, but [Flair was] telling stories all night long. [Flair] was kind of holding court. I was like a parrot. I was right behind [Flair], damn near on [Flair’s] right shoulder laughing my ass off. And every time I would give the guy the signal to bring me another margarita or another Jack and Coke or another beer – he didn’t make a margarita worth a s**t – so anyway, I kept rotating all my different alcohols.”

Flair added that anytime he gets to see Austin, he’s going to “jump at it.”

“I don’t care what the doctors say – I’m going to have some drinks!” Flair said. “What a way to go! Hey listen, my motto was that I want to die either on top of Wendy or in the ring. Now it’s with the boys or doing [Austin’s] podcast!”

The two discussed what might have been had they been able to feud against each other. Austin recalled he worked with Flair a bit near the end of his career, but was frazzled and burned out. He’s confident, however, that the two would have set box office records.

Flair agreed wholeheartedly, stating that they would have set records everywhere.

Reason Why Steve Austin Is Scheduled For RAW At Madison Square Garden

As previously reported, WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin will be in attendance at WWE’s September 9th episode of Monday Night RAW. The show takes place in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The reason behind his scheduled booking allegedly lies in WWE’s push to try and sell out this MGS show, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Apparently, the 9/9 episode of RAW and the 9/10 episode of SmackDown Live are both yet to sell out. This led to their bringing in “The Texas Rattlesnake.” Since the announcement, sales for RAW have increased but there still plenty of tickets available. They currently range from $31 to $1,1606 each. It is believed that RAW will eventually sell out.

Dave Meltzer noted how important it is for WWE to be able to sell out their MGS shows in the run-up to the Wednesday Night Wars against All Elite Wrestling. Success in the Garden will apparently keep AEW from being able to book shows there.

Austin won’t be the only legendary Superstar appearing for WWE that week. The Undertaker is also scheduled to appear during that week’s episode of SmackDown.

There is no information at the time of writing as to what Austin or The Undertaker’s roles will be.

“Stone Cold” was recently on WWE television screens again for the RAW Reunion special last month.

Steve Austin Responds To Fan, Comments On Modern Kayfabe

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin has previously shared his love of the way Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would sell his finishing move, the Stone Cold Stunner.

In an interview with KFC Radio, Austin recalled how The Rock would be “flip-flopping” around there ring, his legs careening off the ropes and hitting him in the head as he sold it.

“I hit him with that damn stunner, and half the time I’d have to watch out because he’d crash over me,” Austin said. “And The Rock, I mean he’s always been like 275, and when his legs or whatever careened off the ropes and hit you in the head, it’s like, ‘Goddamn, that hurts!'”

Since then, Austin uploaded a Gif to his Twitter account showcasing The Rock’s selling skills, accompanied by the following:

“And the Academy for best selling of a Stunner goes to @TheRock. #goodtimes TCB. RT @90sWWE: Legendary. @steveaustinBSR @TheRock”

This post led to a social media interaction between himself and a fan, with Austin ultimately sharing his take on modern-day kayfabe attitudes.

A fan decided to share their opinion on the video, highlighting his dislike of Austin’s usage of the words “academy” and “selling.”

“Love SCSA but hate this tweet. ‘Academy,’ ‘selling ‘… ugh. Yes, I realize kayfabe is dead, but can’t you just say it’s a devastating move and that’s why it f****d Rock all up?”

Steve Austin responded, writing:

“Wake up bruh. It’s almost 2020. People kinda know what’s up.”

Christian Recalls Learning An Important Lesson From “Stone Cold” Steve Austin

Christian has revealed a piece of advice he received from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin that helped change his approach towards his matches.

Speaking with SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Christian recalled his attitude towards his career at the time. He also described seeking feedback from Austin after an early match in his singles career.

“For me, early on in my career, […] I think I was smart enough to realize what I was, and that I was never gonna be the biggest guy, I was never gonna be the strongest guy, I was never gonna be the fastest guy,” Christian explained. “So, instead of focusing and trying to be great at one thing, I wanted to be good at everything.”

“It’s funny, if I look back at tape of myself now when I first started with WWE, I was like ‘Man, how did I get a job?’ You know, I just wasn’t that good. It just seemed like I was out there trying to put 10 pounds of crap in a 5-pound bag, just trying to do things,” he said.

Shortly after branching off into singles matches, he asked Austin for some thoughts on a match he believed had gone well. Turns out Austin thought differently.

“I came back, I sought out Steve, I was like ‘Hey, what did you think?,’ he turns around and looks at me dead in the eyes and says ‘Why don’t you learn how to effin’ sell?’ and walked away. That was a kick in the face, and I was like ‘Wow, like..what?”

Off this advice, Christian explained how he “went back and I watched a bunch of my tapes, and I was like ‘He’s right.’ I’m registering, but I’m not selling. So I had to fix that part of my game.”

Stone Cold Steve Austin Continues The Celebration After Raw Goes Off Air (Video)

This week’s Raw Reunion episode saw the return of many legends and it was filled with many fun segments and angles involving current and former WWE Stars.

The show featured segments such as the multiple title changes to the 24/7 Championship, the match between Sami Zayn and Rey Mysterio and the bout between Seth Rollins and AJ Styles, all of which involved a number of wrestling veterans.

The final segment of the show was Stone Cold Steve Austin presenting a toast to Raw and the episode ended with Austin and other legends celebrating in the ring.

Though the party didn’t end there and while the rest of the legends made their way backstage, the former WWE Champion stayed in the ring even after the show went off air.

He stayed in the ring for a while and continued the celebration and then went to the stage area and celebrated on the announcers’ table before finally making his way to the back.

WWE later posted a video of Austin’s actions after the show went off air on their YouTube channel and you can check out the footage embedded below:

Though as we noted before, the whole show didn’t go as smoothly as WWE was hoping and the company had to make a lot of last-minute changes. You can check out the reason for the same here.

Steve Austin Talks About His Favorite Opponents

WWE Hall Of Famer, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, has revealed the wrestlers he considers his favorite opponents of all time.

Speaking with Dale Earnhart Jr. on Dale Jr, Download, Austin discussed the people he enjoyed working with the most as he recalled some his top moments and matches in the squared circle.

Blood From A Stone

Austin spoke highly of his feud with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, highlighting WrestleMania 17 as a particularly memorable bout. He also reminisced on wrestling Vince McMahon, and how their feud transcended wrestling. He stated that for two years, their rivalry became mainstream water cooler talk.

Other notable legends “Stone Cold” mentioned included The Undertaker, Triple H, and Mankind. He then spotlighted one man in particular: fellow Hall Of Famer, Bret Hart.

Steve Austin believes the trust and respect the two had for one another—a mutual respect he claims was present from day one—allowed them to have truly memorable encounters. Their feud would culminate in a bloody clash at WrestleMania 13.

He considers that match an exclamation point to their feud and spoke about the moment he had to blade for the match, referring to it as a rite of passage based off what he had watched coming up in the industry.

Steve Austin Has Advice For Wrestlers Wanting To Leave WWE

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin recently offered advice to wrestlers who are considering leaving WWE. He made his comments during an appearance on Dale Earnhardt’s podcast.

Austin noted that anyone considering leaving should make sure they depart the company in such a way that momentum is on their side.

“If you got some feelers out there and you’re trying to network other things based upon you having a high Q rating or a lot of television exposure, and you get your hands into different things, do it,” Austin said. “Right now (WWE) is your bread and butter, but starting planting those seeds right now so when you spin out of this you come out with momentum.”

Austin continued to say he wished he hadn’t of waited as long as he did to start his acting career after retiring from wrestling.

Stone Cold On What Made Him Popular

Austin also noted how things were different back when he was at his peak. He was asked about who he feels is the next “Stone Cold” and he hesitated to answer.

“That’s a tough question to answer right now,” Austin admitted.

“Do you see those guys in this current climate?” Earnhardt asked.

“When I got hot, I pushed the envelope,” Austin said. “I was saying words you could still say on television, I wasn’t dropping f-bombs, I knew what I could get away with. The deal was I wasn’t afraid to push the envelope, I wasn’t afraid to go out on a limb, so I did. And I knew I had to, and it was in me!”

Austin would continue to say there is more control and restrictions on the current roster.

“When you turn me up to 11, that’s me,” he added about his character.

Austin then suggested WWE could give their talent more freedom with their characters and stories.

Steve Austin Responds To Kevin Owens’ Use Of The Stunner

In case you missed it, this week’s episode of SmackDown Live saw the return of Kevin Owens. He would be introduced by Vince McMahon, who informed Kofi Kingston that he would be replaced by Owens in the WWE Championship matchup at the upcoming Fastlane event.

Owens also happened to bring something else back that Tuesday night: the Stunner.

Not only that but an effective Stunner that ended the match after he managed to hit it on “The New” Daniel Bryan. This would give the impromptu team of Kevin Owens and Kofi Kingston the victory in their tag team effort against Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan.

He would reach out to the man who pioneered the move as a finisher, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin:

“Hey @steveaustinBSR, I finally figured it out!”

Now, “The Rattlesnake” has responded to Owens bold claim.

“Highly effective. When executed properly the results are complete devastation.”

Austin accompanied the tweet with a nice video comparison of the two Stunners. One is Owens’ from SmackDown, the other is his own from WrestleMania XIV. That particular ‘Mania finish, accompanied by a three count by “Iron” Mike Tyson, saw Austin claim the WWF Championship for the first time back in 1998.

“Stone Cold” has been critical over the use of the Stunner by other Superstars in the past. He has not only lambasted Owens for his prior attempts but was equally unimpressed when John Cena started using a springboard variation of the move.

Kevin Owens Reaches Out To Steve Austin Regarding The Stunner

The WWE Universe welcomed back Kevin Owens last night as he returned to SmackDown Live. “The Prizefighter” was introduced by Vince McMahon, who referred to him as “more deserving” of facing Daniel Bryan at Fastlane. Mr. McMahon’s decision would lead to Kofi Kingston losing his opportunity at the WWE Champion — something The New Day took issue with.

Despite this turn of events, however, the two Superstars would end up teaming together by the end of the night. They would face off against “The New” Daniel Bryan and his partner, Erick Rowan.

The match would end after Owens managed to hit Bryan with a Stunner, allowing him to scoop up the victory.

This isn’t the first time that KO has used the Stunner. In the past though, it has led to some pretty lukewarm feedback from the man who popularized the move: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

This time, with Owens able to end the match with the finisher, it seems things are different, as Owens tweeted out to Austin, saying: “Hey @steveaustinBSR, I finally figured it out!”

https://twitter.com/FightOwensFight/status/1100595564046139398

“Put Some Stink On It, Kid”

“Stone Cold” has been pretty vocal about his disdain regarding Superstars using variations of the Stunner in the past. His frustrations stemmed from the move being devalued, as it wasn’t used as a move to end the matchup. Instead, it was just another move.

When Owens used the manoeuvre in the past, Austin actually tweeted:

“Damn. I guess I gotta teach @FightOwensFight how to do a GD Stone Cold Stunner. Put some stink on it, kid. @WWE #royalrumble”

Hopefully “The Rattlesnake” will be happy to see the Stunner returned to its status as a true finisher.

Video: AJ Styles Impersonates Steve Austin After Smackdown

Following Tuesday’s SmackDown Live and 205 Live tapings, WWE Champion Daniel Bryan defended his title against AJ Styles in a dark match. Bryan wound up retaining his title over “The Phenomenal One” via disqualification. However, after the match, Bryan cut a heel promo on the Alabama crowd.

Bryan poked fun at their college football team for losing the National Championship game to Clemson in a blowout. Styles then came back and attacked Bryan before celebrating with a young fan. He then did an impersonation of WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Styles asked the crowd if they want to see him hit Bryan with a Phenomenal Forearm, then give him a “Hell Yeah.”

After the crowd chanted “Hell Yeah” Styles hit Bryan with the elbow. He then mimicked Austin’s beer drinking celebration with water bottles.

Eric Bischoff Believes Becky Lynch Is The Next Stone Cold Steve Austin

Former WCW President Eric Bischoff just threw out a comparison that has been making the rounds as of late. Now-former SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch has been getting comparisons to Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin. Lynch has become, arguably, WWE’s biggest star in recent months. After turning heel on Charlotte Flair, the WWE Universe really began to get behind “The Irish Lass Kicker.”

She went on to capture the SDL Women’s Title at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (PPV) from Flair. However, she recently lost it to Asuka in a Triple Threat Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) match. That’s thanks in part to some interference from RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. With that being said, Lynch is undoubtedly one of WWE’s hottest stars at the moment.

Its been quite some time since fans have gotten behind a Superstar the way they have for her. During a recent edition of the “After 83 Weeks” podcast, Bischoff explained his comparison between Lynch and Austin:

“I’m more of a Becky Lynch fan right now than I have been a fan of anybody in the last fifteen years. It’s because about two weeks ago I began noticing her social media, tweets, the messages she was putting out…

“If she has somebody writing them for her, I want to know who that person is because they are a really smart writer. If she doesn’t have somebody [writing the tweets] for her and she’s doing it herself, she’s going to be the next Stone Cold Steve Austin for WWE because she is a believable character.

“Forget about what I’ve seen on television. I’m not discarding it, but setting it aside. Her ability to capture my imagination on social media was profound. I mean, I went, whoa! She’s got it! She’s becoming so believable and unique and you can’t teach that.“

What do you think of Bischoff’s comparison between Lynch and Austin?

NFL Star Celebrates Touchdown With Stone Cold Stunner (Video)

In the late 90s and early 2000s, there wasn’t a hotter star in professional wrestling than Stone Cold Steve Austin. “The Texas Rattlesnake” has produced some of the biggest pops of all time, is one of the greatest characters WWE TV has ever seen, and was the face of the Attitude Era. Austin inspired an entire generation of youngsters that would eventually go on to be today’s sports mega-stars.

Just a few weeks ago, Portland Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard arrived to one of his games in a Steve Austin mask. He also carried the Smoking Skull WWE belt around the arena. The scene made quite the buzz on social media, and even got a response from Austin on Twitter.

Over the weekend, another sports star paid homage to Austin during his game. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce hit one of his teammates with a celebratory Stone Cold Stunner. Kelce hauled in the opening touchdown of the Chiefs vs. Oakland Raiders game on Sunday. Check out Kelce’s Stone Cold Stunner here:

The Chiefs went on to defeat Oakland 40-33, and remain a top favorite to potentially win this year’s Super Bowl.

What do you think of Kelce’s touchdown celebration?

Steve Austin Shares Which Current WWE Superstars He’d Like To Work With

When asked recently on his podcast, ‘The Steve Austin Show,’ which current superstar he would enjoy working a final feud with, Austin came back with two interesting answers.

First up is the current WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar.

“I’m good friends with Brock Lesnar,” said Austin, “and it’d be fun to work with Brock ’cause I was supposed to all those years ago.”

“Stone Cold” is actually referencing a storyline that was meant to occur in the early 2000s. That feud would have seen him go one-on-one with Brock Lesnar, back when Lesnar was known as “The Next Big Thing.”

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Austin famously “took his ball and went home” and left WWE because Vince McMahon wanted him to lose to Brock Lesnar on Monday Night Raw with virtually zero build up.

The second name? Well, turns out that Austin wants to walk with Elias.

“I also really think Elias is doing well. I’d like to work with that guy to elevate him,” he admitted. “I think he’s on his way to being a top guy.”

“I’ve known Brock forever and we’re good friends,” Austin reiterated, “but Elias has been making more and more progress. The character is coming around. The guitar work is great. Damn good hand in the ring. Great gimmick. He’s working baby[face] now and I think that’s great.”

If he were to do it one last time, who would you want to see “Stone Cold” feud with?

Becky Lynch Reveals Advice Received From Shawn Michaels

Becky Lynch has been on fire the past several months. Following her losing effort for the SmackDown Live Women’s Title at SummerSlam, WWE decided to attempt to turn Lynch heel. She attacked Charlotte Flair after she won their SmackDown Live Women’s Title bout. Despite attacking Flair, the WWE Universe has actually begun cheering Lynch, and booing “The Queen.”

“The Irish Lass Kicker” won the SDL Women’s Title at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (PPV), and has continued her feud with Flair on SmackDown Live. It’s currently one of the hottest feuds on WWE TV right now. Not to mention Lynch’s popularity has really risen. It turns out, she received a key piece of advice from WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels. This came after they worked together on the film “The Marine 6: Close Quarters.”

Lynch told TV Insider things weren’t going great for her before she left to film “The Marine.” Michales offered her the following words of advice:

“Things weren’t going as well as they are now before I left to shoot. I remember him giving me advice saying, ‘When you go back, go in as a different person. Hold your head a little bit higher.

“Have that attitude that you’re a top star. Go with it. I think this is what I’ve been trying to do since I came back.”

What do you think about the advice “HBK” gave Lynch?

Steve Austin On Khabib Vs. McGregor, Post-Match Chaos

While the fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov was one of the most iconic UFC bouts of all time, the events that followed made more headlines than the actual match.

A lot of people called what transpired after the match a black eye on the UFC, but it appears that WWE Legend Stone Cold Steve Austin thinks differently.

During the latest episode of his Steve Austin Show, the former World Champion discussed the match between these two. He said that it was a hell of a fight and Khabib had an answer for everything Conor did.

Talking about the post-fight incident, Austin mentioned how some people were saying that this is a black eye on the UFC, but claimed that he doesn’t look at it like that.

Steve Austin said that while he doesn’t have an opinion on who was at fault, as a fan, he wants to see stuff that entertains him and the whole incident doesn’t make him think any less of the UFC.

Continuing on the topic, the Texas Rattlesnake said that every time he buys a UFC PPV, he expects everything but the kitchen sink and the show highly entertained him.

Bob Holly On Past Pill Addiction During WWE Career

Former WWE star Bob Holly was recently a guest on WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast, The Steve Austin Show. Holly signed with WWE back in 1994, after having served as a jobber for the company before in 1991. He lasted 15 years with WWE before being released in 2009.

During his time with the company; Holly won the WWE Hardcore Title six times, was a three-time WWE Tag Team Champion, and also captured the NWA World Tag Team Titles with Bodacious Bart. Over the course of his career, however, Holly developed an addiction to pain pills.

He opened up on the situation while speaking to Austin:

“When I broke my neck, I did end up getting into the pain pill thing and getting on those. And I was able to get off that stuff. And so, but that wasn’t easy, so I had to have help. I wrote about that in my book.

“I had to have help to get off that stuff and I did. But that was the worst I did. I didn’t get into the alcohol. I didn’t get into the cocaine. I didn’t get into anything heavy like that. I mean, I did steroids. Whoop-dee-doo.

“But that goes without saying. When I broke my neck, that was the worst, the heaviest I got into anything as far as that you shouldn’t be doing, but, like I said, I got off that and everything. I never drank and I never did anything else.” Holly explained, “I started taking too many [pills] and I was like, ‘this is ridiculous – I’ve got to stop,’ so I did.”
