WWE Possibly Reaching Out to Major Name for SummerSlam

It looks like WWE will be looking to add a big star to the SummerSlam card amid uncertainty with Brock Lesnar.

July 22, 2022 will forever go down in wrestling history. Vince McMahon, the former longtime Chairman and CEO of WWE, announced his retirement.

He not only leaves behind those two roles, but he won’t have anything to do with creative or any other executive role within the company goring forward.

The news apparently did not sit well with Brock Lesnar, who essentially told WWE brass that if Vince is out then so is he.

Enter Goldberg?

Cultaholic is reporting that WWE could be making overtures to Goldberg for a WWE Undisputed Universal Title match against Roman Reigns if Brock Lesnar ditches SummerSlam.

Lesnar was scheduled to be featured on the July 22 episode of WWE SmackDown but he exited the TD Garden in Boston, MA hours before the show was scheduled to go on air.

Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline has reported that WWE does have someone in place should Lesnar not make it to the show but the company is trying to keep the original plans intact. Bryan has NOT confirmed whether or not the replacement is indeed Goldberg.

Pretty much everyone is in agreement that Vince McMahon didn’t retire due to old age. He has come under fire after two Wall Street Journal reports uncovered alleged million-dollar hush pacts with former employees.

The second WSJ report claimed that Vince has paid millions in NDAs over the course of 16 years.

WWE Confirms When TV-14 Programming Will Return

Next Saturday, WWE will host their annual Summerslam Premium Live Event, marking the first time the show has happened outside of the month of August.

The show will be headlined by a Last Man Standing match between Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, in what WWE is billing as their final match.

Both Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles will also be defended, as well as Logan Paul’s singles debut when he faces The Miz.

The Rating

A lot has been said about WWE ratings over the past week, ever since it was reported that there are plans in place for Monday Night Raw to become a TV-14 show.

While that hasn’t happened yet, the Peacock streaming app lists next weekend’s Summerslam premium live event carrying a TV-14 rating.

TV-14

The impending TV-14 rating has excited WWE fans, who believe the show will push the envelope, but the change did not come from WWE.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the decision for Raw to change came from WWE’s broadcast partners at the USA Network.

The belief is that the new rating will not see the return of blading, as WWE is against blood except in exceptionally rare circumstances.

It is believed that the rating will allow for more profanity on Monday Night Raw but little else will be changed.

WWE Management Unhappy With SummerSlam Plans

It appears WWE management isn’t too thrilled with how the 2022 SummerSlam card has shaped up.

The big WWE summer event will be held inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. In the main event, Roman Reigns will put the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship on the line against Brock Lesnar.

That title match will be contested under Last Man Standing rules. This is being billed as Lesnar’s final chance at dethroning Roman.

WWE has heavily teased Money in the Bank briefcase holder Theory cashing in on the winner.

There will also be two women’s world titles matches on the card. Liv Morgan will defend her SmackDown gold against Ronda Rousey, while Becky Lynch will look to take the Raw Women’s Championship from titleholder Bianca Belair.

WWE Not Happy With SummerSlam

WrestleVotes reports that there are those in WWE management who aren’t pleased with the SummerSlam card despite being the ones to put it together.

“In the most WWE of ways, I had a source tell me this morning “they really don’t like the SummerSlam card” ‘They’ being the people who put it together. Um, what?!”

WrestleVotes report on SummerSlam

This year’s SummerSlam event will be taking place on July 30. Here’s how the card is shaping up:

  • WWE Undisputed Universal Title: Roman Reigns (c) vs Brock Lesnar (Last Man Standing Match)
  • WWE SmackDown Women’s Title: Liv Morgan (c) vs Ronda Rousey
  • WWE Raw Women’s Title: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Becky Lynch
  • Seth Rollins vs. Riddle
  • WWE United States Title: Bobby Lashley (c) vs Austin Theory
  • WWE Undisputed Tag Team Titles: The Uso’s (c) vs The Street Profits (Jeff Jarrett is special guest referee)
  • Pat McAfee vs Happy Corbin

Special Guest Referee for WWE SummerSlam Title Match Revealed

We now know who the special guest referee for a key WWE SummerSlam title match will be.

At this year’s SummerSlam event, WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions The Usos will put their gold on the line against the Street Profits. One stipulation added to the match is that there will be a special guest referee.

During the July 15 episode of SmackDown, that referee was revealed.

Jeff Jarrett Will be Referee for WWE SummerSlam

At the conclusion of the most recent SmackDown show, Adam Pearce announced that Jeff Jarrett will be the official for the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship match at SummerSlam.

The move makes sense for the Nashville area. Jarrett is quite popular in the state of Tennessee. This year’s SummerSlam show will be held inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

After the announcement was made, The Usos and the Street Profits brawled to end the July 15 SmackDown show.

Reason Why John Cena Won’t Wrestle at WWE SummerSlam

We now know why John Cena won’t be in the ring for a match at WWE SummerSlam this year.

WWE recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Cena on the June 27 episode of Raw in Laredo, TX. Many expected Cena and Theory to kickstart a feud on the show, which would lead to a showdown on July 30.

While the seeds were planted for a potential rivalry between Cena and Theory during a backstage segment, it won’t be for a SummerSlam match.

When Cena addressed the WWE Universe, he said he didn’t know when he was going to wrestle again but promised he has more than just one match left in him.

Why John Cena Isn’t Booked For SummerSlam

Theory has now been booked for a rematch with Bobby Lashley, who defeated him at Money in the Bank earlier this month to capture the WWE United States Championship. They’ll collide inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee for SummerSlam.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live noted that John Cena has begun filming for season two of Peacemaker. This would explain why he won’t have the time in his schedule to make it to one of WWE’s biggest premium live events of the year.

Theory is the men’s Money in the Bank briefcase holder. WWE has been heavily teasing that he will attempt to cash in on the winner of Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the Undisputed Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

It’s led some to speculate that Theory could be WWE’s top champion going into WrestleMania in 2023 with John Cena possibly challenging him.

It’ll be interesting to see when Cena’s schedule will allow him to get back inside the ring for a match.

Undisputed WWE Tag Team Title Match Announced For SummerSlam 2022

Another match for the 2022 SummerSlam premium live event has been announced.

New Tag Title Match Announced

WWE has announced that The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) will defend their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) at WWE SummerSlam.

The Usos defeated The Street Profits at WWE Money in the Bank. However, Montez’s shoulder was up during the pinfall, giving the Street Profits a valid reason for a rematch.

WWE had the following to say in their announcement post:

Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos say there isn’t a team in WWE who can beat them. After a controversial finish to their recent title matchup against The Street Profits at WWE Money in the Bank, however, their status as “Undisputed” has now come into question. And that question will be settled, one way or the other, in a rematch at SummerSlam!

The Usos have been on an absolute tear since becoming champions, overcoming the best that SmackDown has to offer in their record-setting reign, including unifying the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships against RK-Bro and emerging victorious in a close battle with Shinsuke Nakamura & Riddle on the blue brand.

Although Jimmy & Jey also officially retained the tag team gold against explosive former titleholders Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins at the WWE Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, a replay showed that Ford’s shoulder was clearly off the canvas before the three-count.

At The Biggest Event of the Summer, The Street Profits will be up and looking to both knock The Usos down a peg and finally lay claim to the Undisputed Tag Team Title. Can Ford & Dawkins take back the the championship gold, or will another climb to “Mount Bloodline” knock the wind out of them once and for all?

Find out at SummerSlam, streaming LIVE on Saturday, July 30, at 8 ET/5 PT on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.

Possible Street Profits Breakup

It was recently reported on the Wrestling Observer Radio that the current plan for Montez Ford is for him to be pushed as a singles star. This could be where the official breakup of The Street Profits takes place.

Pat McAfee vs Happy Corbin Announced For WWE SummerSlam 2022

Another match for the 2022 WWE SummerSlam premium live event has been announced.

On the June 17 SmackDown, Happy Corbin confronted Pat McAfee following a loss to Madcap Moss. Corbin harassed the commentator due to Pat constantly calling him a bum. McAfee made sure that the crowd laughed Corbin out of the arena.

The next week, on the June 24 SmackDown, Pat challenged Corbin to a match at SummerSlam.

At Money in the Bank on July 2, after the show went off the air, Corbin attacked the commentator and accepted his challenge.

This is going to be Pat’s second match on the main roster. He had his first main roster match at WrestleMania 38 earlier this year when he defeated Theory.

The match will take place at WWE SummerSlam on July 30 at 8 p.m. ET. It’ll be held in Nashville, TN at Nissan Stadium. So far, the only other match announced is Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship in a Last Man Standing match.

WWE had the following to say in their announcement post:

It will be no laughing matter when Pat McAfee tangles with Happy Corbin at SummerSlam!

McAfee's issues with Corbin became apparent on the June 17 edition of SmackDown. Just moments after losing a Last Laugh Match against Madcap Moss, an irate Corbin attempted to take out his frustrations on the blue brand announcer. In response, the outspoken McAfee led the WWE Universe members in Minneapolis in laughing a humiliated Corbin right out of the arena.

The following week, McAfee challenged Corbin to a showdown at The Biggest Event of the Summer and proclaimed he was ready to feel alive. Corbin responded at WWE Money in the Bank with a brutal attack after the show went off the air and let the electric commentator know his challenge was accepted.

The passionate, fearless McAfee claimed an eye-opening win against Theory at WrestleMania, but will he have what it takes to overcome the former King of the Ring, Mr. Money in the Bank and United States Champion.

Plans For Liv Morgan at WWE SummerSlam

Liv Morgan made history on Saturday night by winning the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, cashing in on Ronda Rousey later in the show and capturing the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

We now look ahead to SummerSlam, where Morgan is slated to be featured in a top match on the summer spectacular.

Money in the Bank

Liv Morgan had a career-altering night at Saturday’s WWE Money in the Bank.

After winning the women’s MITB ladder match in the first match of the show, she would cash in on the same night after SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey successfully retained the title over Natalya.

After Ronda’s title defense, Liv ran to the ring and cashed in immediately. As soon as the match began, Rousey locked Morgan in the ankle lock.

Morgan then kicked Rousey’s bad knee that had been worked over in the match with Natalya, allowing Liv to roll her up and get the win.

SummerSlam Plans for Liv Morgan

On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that the current plan for Liv at SummerSlam on July 30 is to defend the title against Ronda.

There apparently has been some speculation that WWE might utilize Charlotte Flair and reignite her feud with Rousey at this upcoming event.

Charlotte has been off of WWE TV for a while after getting married to AEW star Andrade El Idolo.

Dave said, “Right now, the plan is Liv Morgan and Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, which kind of surprises me in a lot of ways, especially because they didn’t leave with any heat. Ronda just hugged her, walked out of the ring, and let her have her moment.

“They’ve been building for this with Liv Morgan for a while. It is interesting, though, as I think almost everybody figured it was going to be Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, and it’s not.”

As of right now, WWE has not yet confirmed these plans for Liv, Ronda, or Charlotte.

WWE Has Backup Plan For Major SummerSlam Match

WWE is said to have a plan B in place for a major SummerSlam match.

This year’s SummerSlam event is set to take place inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. The premium live event will air live on July 30.

SummerSlam is always one of WWE’s biggest events of the year. It also happens to be WWE’s only stadium show in the month of July this year.

The company had plans of using Allegiant Stadium to host the July 2 Money in the Bank show, but lagging ticket sales derailed that plan.

It had been reported that there were plans in place for a big WWE Undisputed Universal Title match at SummerSlam but some changes are likely in order.

Backup Plan For Roman Reigns’ Opponent

WWE had been targeting a title match between WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Randy Orton for SummerSlam. Fightful has reported that WWE now fears that Orton’s back injury could keep him out for the remainder of 2022.

Orton may need surgery.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE does have a backup plan in the event Orton can’t go. It’s noted that the backup plan is not Riddle.

Roman is scheduled to put his gold on the line against Riddle on the June 17 episode of WWE SmackDown. If Riddle loses, then he can never challenge Roman for the championship again.

Massive WWE Title Match Planned for SummerSlam

There will be a big fight feel for this year’s SummerSlam event when it comes to one title match.

WWE SummerSlam will take place inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee on July 30. Some big names are expected for the show.

Many anticipate the likes of Roman Reigns, Ronda Rousey, Charlotte, and potentially Brock Lesnar to appear. With this being a stadium show and one of WWE’s biggest events of the year, the heavy hitters will be out in full force.

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports that Roman Reigns is currently set to put the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line against Randy Orton at SummerSlam.

WWE has been running an injury storyline with Orton. The story told by WWE is that Orton could barely walk ahead of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Title match against The Usos on the May 20 episode of SmackDown.

Sports Illustrated recently reported that Reigns isn’t scheduled to be on the Money in the Bank card. If that plan sticks, then Roman’s next title defense will likely be against Orton instead of Riddle.

The SmackDown brand has been feeling the effects of Roman’s new WWE deal in recent weeks. The new contract allows Reigns to work fewer dates and his absence has been noticeable on the blue brand.

“The number one question I’ve gotten over the past three years, at live shows, on social media, or in interviews is, ‘When is the next STARRCAST,’ said STARRCAST founder and creator Conrad Thompson.

“I’m so happy I can finally answer; July 29th through the 31st at the beautiful Nashville Fairgrounds. As our Top Guys at AdFreeShows.com know, when my team and I get together on these events, our goal is to over-deliver for the fans, and the line-up and events we have scheduled for STARRCAST V will make it a can’t miss event for any wrestling fan.”

We can’t wait to be in Nashville to present what’s going to be another historic event for professional wrestling fans.”

Theory Hints At SummerSlam Match With John Cena

Theory is teasing a SummerSlam showdown with John Cena.

It’s no secret that WWE is pushing Theory as the next big thing. Theory is aligned with Vince McMahon on TV and has been labeled as the WWE Chairman’s new “Chosen One.” Some reports have even claimed that WWE is trying to make Theory the next John Cena.

Theory vs. John Cena At SummerSlam?

Theory recently took to Instagram Stories to drop a big tease regarding a potential match with Cena (h/t The Brass Ring).

https://twitter.com/TheBrassRing1/status/1520890918353711108

Theory is the reigning United States Champion. He captured the gold on the April 18 episode of Raw. He pinned Finn Balor to win his first singles championship in WWE.

WWE seemingly dropped its own hint of a possible collision between Theory and Cena. During the April 25 episode of Raw, Mustafa Ali returned and said he was hoping Theory would have an open challenge for the United States Championship.

During John Cena’s runs with the United States gold back in 2015, he held open challenges with the title on the line. If Theory eventually does the same, then it would be yet another hint.

Theory stoked the flames of a potential rivalry, taking to social media to claim he’s a better U.S. champ than Cena was. Cena responded, warning Theory to not get too big for his britches.

Bianca Belair Opens Up About SummerSlam Loss: ‘It’s A Hard Blow”

The call of letting Becky Lynch squash Bianca Belair for the SmackDown women’s championship during her SummerSlam return has been one of the most controversial booking decisions from WWE officials this year.

The EST of WWE recently had an interview with Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat. Among other things, she opened up about the disappointing SummerSlam loss.

Bianca admitted that losing to Lynch in 26 seconds was a hard blow. She mentioned how the day was very chaotic and she felt like the title was snatched away from her very quickly. Though she also credited her husband for keeping her intact:

“SummerSlam, that was a day. That whole day was so chaotic. Everything was so last minute. This one sitting beside me here [Montez Ford] really kept me intact and constantly checked my perspective.

I was champion, and then to lose my title to Becky Lynch in 26 seconds,” said Bianca Belair, “It’s a hard blow, especially because I feel like I was just getting started and it got snatched away so quickly.”

The former women’s champion also discussed the aftermath of the show. She mentioned how she doesn’t usually look at people’s reactions online. However, her mother encouraged her to look at the comments supporting her after her loss.

Despite the unpleasant experience, Bianca Belair is keeping a positive outlook. She said that nobody can stop her from getting what’s for her and she will eventually get back to the top of the mountain.

H/t to Fightful for the transcribed quotes.

Sean Waltman On Bianca Belair’s SummerSlam Loss: ‘This Ain’t It’

Sean Waltman has thrown in his two cents on Bianca Belair’s controversial SummerSlam loss.

Belair entered Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada as the SmackDown Women’s Champion. She was expected to put her title on the line against Sasha Banks. Belair made her way to the ring when it was announced that Banks was unable to wrestle.

Becky Lynch made a surprise return and asked Bianca for a last-minute title match. Bianca accepted and Becky nailed her with a cheap shot followed by a pump handle slam for the three-count. The match didn’t make it to the 30-second mark.

During an edition of his Pro Wrestling 4 Life podcast, Waltman expressed his dismay with how WWE booked Belair’s title loss.

“Bianca is on her way to being a MEGA star, and a lot of people are really emotionally invested in her. You can’t do that to people in this day and age,” Waltman pointed out. “You used to be able to do it. That’s why I was saying that was the old mentality, but everyone knows what’s going on. The fan base is incredibly educated, and WWE, I’ve heard them compare themselves to Marvel. Marvel, when it comes to fan service, they’re amazing. This ain’t it.

“You can’t sh*t on a huge portion of your fan base like that. I’m a huge Becky Lynch fan, really big. I was so happy with her run and when she got the bloody nose, cut the promo and all that sh*t, and I’m still a big fan. This did her no favors. It was just unbelievable. Bianca, she’s a thoroughbred. It’s just totally unbelievable that she would get beat that quick by anybody in that f*cking roster. MAYBE Nia [Jax].”

It has been reported by PW Insider that Lynch will be turning heel following her actions at SummerSlam. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter later reported that Lynch was the one who requested the heel turn.

Backstage SummerSlam Notes: John Cena’s Future, Original Brock Lesnar Plans, Sasha Banks

SummerSlam gave people a lot to talk about. From Brock Lesnar’s return to a returning Becky Lynch squashing Bianca Belair, the PPV created both positive and negative buzz for WWE.

Dave Meltzer talked about the PPV on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. He provided a lot of interesting backstage tidbits about the event.

According to Meltzer, WWE originally planned to hold off the Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns match till WrestleMania 39 in 2023 but they changed the plans. After the SummerSlam confrontation, it looks likely for the upcoming Saudi event.

As for John Cena, despite the beatdown angle after last night’s event, he seems to be done with the company. There are no immediate plans to bring him back anytime soon and he is not being discussed for any future storylines as of now.

The company apparently knew that Sasha Banks will not make it to SummerSlam 8 days prior to the event. So they brought Becky Lynch back earlier than planned.

Though it’s not known whether the short match was a result of Lynch not being ready for a longer bout or just a creative decision. There was no mention of the reason behind Sasha’s absence so it’s hard to say when she will be back.

Some fans were concerned about the new US Champion Damien Priest. He looked to have injured his hip during the show but he was said to be fine backstage.

Fianlly, WWE announced during the show that there were 51,326 fans attending the SummerSlam 2021 event. The actual number was close to 45,000.

Nikki Bella Criticizes Booking Of Bianca Belair’s SummerSlam Loss

Nikki Bella is not a fan of how the SmackDown Women’s Championship reign of Bianca Belair came to an end.

Last night (Aug. 21), WWE SummerSlam took place inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Belair was expected to put her gold on the line against Sasha Banks. Wrestling Inc. reported that Banks was off the card and WWE ended up having Becky Lynch replace her as a surprise.

Fans didn’t get much of a match, however. Lynch extended her hand to Belair but ended up taking a cheap shot followed by a pumphandle for the three-count. The match lasted about 27 seconds.

During a post-SummerSlam event, Nikki Bella made it clear that she wasn’t happy with the finish to Belair vs Lynch.

https://twitter.com/Tessflocker/status/1429543693799800834

“I can tell you what wasn’t my favorite moment and it was when she lost [points over to Bianca Belair, who was also at the event]. That definitely was not my favorite moment. I don’t actually know if I had a favorite moment, because, you know, I’ve always backed the women and always for the women.

“You have someone like Bianca, who is such an incredible talent and you can’t help but get frustrated when you see moments like that of like, a championship that meant so much and was lost within seconds. So, I have to admit, for this SummerSlam, there truly wasn’t anything that was my favorite moment.”

Belair recently commented on the quick loss, saying she was glad to be a part of the moment. Belair vowed to get the SmackDown Women’s Championship back in the future.

Bray Wyatt ‘Fiend’ Sign Confiscated At WWE SummerSlam

Bray Wyatt was released from WWE on July 31st, but that hasn’t prevented fans from supporting the former WWE Champion at live events. WWE sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling world when they announced Wyatt ‘s contract was terminated after 11 years with the company.

“We want Wyatt” chants have been audible at WWE TV tapings since his departure. During Sunday’s SummerSlam kickoff show, a large Fiend sign was shown at ringside. It did not take long for security to approach the fan and confiscate the sign, which incorporated the Fiend mask into the Las Vegas Raiders logo.

Bray Wyatt’s Future

Bray Wyatt’s 90-day non-compete clause runs through the last week of October. He will be unable to work for other wrestling companies until then, but it is believed he’ll be joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

The night CM Punk returned to wrestling at AEW Rampage: The First Dance, Bray Wyatt posted an Eddie Van Halen Quote on Twitter. Many wrestling fans are interpreting this as another indication that we have not seen the last of Bray Wyatt inside the squared circle.

Becky Lynch Comments On SummerSlam Return

Becky Lynch made her triumphant return to WWE during the SummerSlam PPV. The Man went on to reclaim her throne and won the SmackDown women’s championship during her comeback.

The new champion was interviewed backstage after the show. She was asked how it feels to be back. She responded by saying: “The Man is back, and it feels good!”

Reports of Sasha Banks potentially being pulled from SummerSlam had come out a few weeks before the show but officials did not confirm it until the day of the event.

The match was still on until Bianca Belair made her entrance. She was only informed after she got in the ring that the boss will not be able to compete on the show.

It was then announced that Carmella will be replacing the former women’s champion in the SummerSlam match. Carmella came out for the fight but Becky Lynch made her return before the bout could start.

Lynch got in the ring and attacked Carmella. She replaced Carmella in the women’s championship match and Becky ended up defeating Belair in a quick fashion.

Other notable moments from the show include another massive return and multiple other title changes. You can check out the complete SummerSlam result at this link.

Watch Brock Lesnar Attack John Cena After SummerSlam Went Off Air

Brock Lesnar made his surprise return after the SummerSlam main event where Roman Reigns defeated John Cena. The Beast Incarnate received a massive pop from the audience on his comeback.

The former world champion confronted Reigns on the show but the tribal chief backed out from a fight. The event ended with the former world champion standing tall in the ring while a shocked Roman Reigns retreated to the stage.

Though while Lesnar didn’t get the fight he was looking for with Reigns, it didn’t stop him from getting physical after SummerSlam.

As seen in the video below, Brock ended up attacking John Cena after the cameras went off air. He delivered multiple suplexes to Cena before finishing things with an F5:

https://twitter.com/x_Beast17_x/status/1429296766659223554

Since the events took place after SummerSlam went off air, it’s hard to say if they mean anything for the future and if we are gonna see Cena and Lesnar coming face to face anytime soon.

One thing that seems to be confirmed is that we are going to get the inevitable rematch between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar very soon. It would be interesting to see which side Paul Heyman takes in this battle.

The PPV featured another massive return apart from Brock Lesnar and included multiple big title changes. You can check out the full SummerSlam results here.

RK-Bro Are The New RAW Tag Team Champions

AJ Styles & Omos defended the RAW Tag Tag Team Championships against RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle) in the first match of SummerSlam. Orton and Styles started off the action and Randy connected with a Suplex of his own. Riddle tagged in and continued to beat AJ down.

Styles rolled out of the ring and slammed on the announce table out of frustration before tagging in Omos. Riddle ran towards Omos but it backfired and he shoved him to the canvas. Omos lifted Riddle up for a bit before sending him to the canvas with a massive Body Slam.

Lynch bashed Belair with a cheap shot after extending her hand for a handshake. Becky followed it up with a Uranage for the pinfall victory. Becky Lynch is the new SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Opinion: Becky Lynch is incredible and it is awesome to see her back. However, I couldn’t stand this. I have no problem with Becky walking out of SummerSlam with the title but I don’t get why Bianca Belair was made look like a goof in the process after building her up so much. I’m sure this will lead to a rivalry but the way this match went down soured the moment for me.

Gage Goldberg rushed into the ring and Bobby applied the Hurt Lock to him. MVP broke it up and grabbed a microphone. MVP shouted that there is no way that Lashley could have known that was Goldberg’s son and the two left the ring as Goldberg checked on Gage.

Opinion: As Jim Ross would say, this match was bowling shoe ugly. Goldberg looked to be in incredible shape but also appeared to have no control over his limbs during certain portions of this match. I don’t know how else to explain it. He was taking moves to the midsection and somehow landing on his head. It also looks like WWE has set up a potential rematch as well with what happened after the match. I’d like to think that the next encounter between the two won’t be a longer match focused around Goldberg selling an injury.

Roman Reigns Retained, Brock Lesnar Returned

Lesnar nodded and bounced around in the ring as Reigns raised the Universal Championship to close the show.

Opinion: Reigns and Cena had a very good match to close the show and Brock Lesnar returning was an awesome moment. Overall, this year’s SummerSlam had some incredible moments and others that are hard to make sense of. Either way, it is an exciting time to be a wrestling fan.

Sasha Banks ‘officially’ off WWE SummerSlam PPV

WWE SmackDown Superstar Sasha Banks has reportedly been pulled from the SummerSlam 2021 card this evening.

The company were still promoting her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match on the pre-show to the event, however WrestlingINC confirmed in the past few minutes that the former Champion would not be on the show tonight.

There had been rumors of WWE having to cancel the match earlier this week, however reports indicated that both women had been cleared to compete inside of Allegiant Stadium tonight.

Sasha Banks pulled from SummerSlam

It is not currently confirmed exactly why Banks is unable to compete on tonight’s show, however attention now turns to Bianca Belair and how WWE will address this situation on the PPV itself.

There have been rumors of Becky Lynch making her return to the company shortly, and with Sasha Banks unable to appear WWE may well pull the trigger and have ‘The Man’ return tonight as a make-good for fans.

We hope to update on the status of Banks as and when the information is available, keep checking back for more as the news comes through.

Report: Sasha Banks Not At SmackDown, SummerSlam Match Possibly Off

The highly anticipated rematch between Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks may not be happening at SummerSlam.

Belair is scheduled to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Banks tomorrow night (Aug. 20). The bout was feared to have been in jeopardy as both Belair and Banks were pulled from consecutive live events. While nothing had been confirmed, speculation of COVID-19 ran rampant.

WWE fans had some good news when it was reported that Belair and Banks were “cleared” to compete this weekend. The good news didn’t last, however.

PW Insider is reporting that Banks isn’t present for the go-home episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Furthermore, there is reportedly backstage talk that the title rematch could be off the SummerSlam card.

Belair is reportedly in Phoenix, Arizona for SmackDown tonight. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not Bianca Belair will get a replacement opponent if Sasha Banks is unavailable. Last week’s episode of SmackDown ended with Banks using Belair’s hair to apply more force to the Bank Statement.

During last week’s contract signing, Carmella and Zelina Vega attacked Belair, leading to Banks locking in the Bank Statement. It’s possible that they could be involved if Belair needs a new opponent for this weekend’s PPV, but of course, that is just speculation at this time.

SEScoops will stay on top of this story as more details become available.
