Mick Foley Writes About His “Wardrobe Malfunction” At WWE SummerSlam

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley took to Facebook to post a new blog about his “wardrobe malfunction” during his WWE SummerSlam opening segment with Jon Stewart.

“The Hardcore Legend” wrote the following:

MICK’S SUMMERSLAM MALFUNCTION

Did some of you sense some uneasiness as I fumbled with my mouth, right before speaking at last week’s ?#?SummerSlam?? That was me, panicking, realizing that my new bottom dental flipper had come loose, and was wedged between my other bottom teeth in a way that would not allow me to pull them out, to speak clearly, or push them back in. I was finally able to reinsert them in the nick of time – at which point I spoke with all the ease and comfort of a man gargling billiard balls.

For those of you keeping score at home, the flipper replaced the teeth knocked out in the infamous 1998 ?#?HellInACell? – which had been reinserted into my gums at the hospital in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, despite repeated efforts over the years, the teeth never truly “took” and had become noticeably discolored over the past few years.

I thought I’d look ok with a few more missing teeth. After all, the knocked out front teeth not only didn’t look bad, but they’s been part of my “look” since late 1989. But after walking in my front door, I was met by my 12 year-old, who seems to be on some type of mission to tell me the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. “Dad”, he said. “You used to look kind of cool. Now you just look like a meth addict.”

So I got the flipper…and I hate it. Nine months and $15,000 from now -after two more teeth are pulled (yep, a total of four teeth were damaged on that fateful night) I should have a decent smile. Until then, I’ll just give thanks that wrestling is fake.

Have a nice day!

Backstage News On The Finish To Undertaker vs. Lesnar At SummerSlam

Heading into SummerSlam this past weekend, there were a lot of questions surrounding how WWE would handle the finish to the Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker main event. With Brock Lesnar’s historic win over The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30 and the Dead Man getting some heel heat prior to the showdown, fans were wondering who would walk out victorious and whether the match would be the end of their storied rivalry.

What we got at SummerSlam was a controversial finish that initially came off as sloppy and disjointed but did provide a solution that allows the feud to continue without damaging the viability of either man.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon felt like The Undertaker had to win this match but he didn’t want Lesnar to suffer a clean loss. There will almost certainly be a final chapter of Undertaker vs. Lesnar, but it remains to be seen whether WWE can wait 9 months until WrestleMania 32 before pulling the trigger.  Undertaker tapping out without the referee seeing it and Lesnar passing out without giving up accomplished this objective.

Photos: Triple H Brings “Curtain Call” Fans Backstage At Monday’s WWE RAW

As seen in the new “The Kliq Rules” WWE DVD and Blu-ray set, WWE contacted Mani Mohtadi and Jason Cosmides, the fans who recorded the infamous Madison Square Garden “Curtain Call” incident with Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.

In addition to being interviewed for the DVD, Triple H also brought the fans to SummerSlam week and had them backstage at Monday’s RAW at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Below are some photos of the two at the show.

Attendance For SummerSlam, NXT Takeover: Brooklyn & RAW

Despite incredibly strong ticket sales for WWE’s 3-night stint in Brooklyn, New York over the weekend, the numbers touted by WWE were inflated.

WWE touted that NXT Takeover: Brooklyn drew 15,589 fans, SummerSlam had 15,702 fans and RAW did 15,597. The arena was actually set up to accommodate a maximum of 13,438 seats for each show.

Some additional seats were opened up at the last minute after the production setup was finalized, but that would have only added a couple hundred seats per show. There were also a lot of free tickets given away, especially with all the media in town and the WWE 2K16 promotional events.

WWE has been overstating recent live attendance by about 2,000 people. That said, the company was most impressed by ticket sales for NXT, which they were only expecting to sell around 5,000.

– WWE and Stephen Amell raised over $400,000 for Emily House charity by selling 15,694 t-shirts that Amell and WWE produced with the proceeds going to the charity. Backstage Update On The Dudley Boyz’ WWE Return, Plans For Their Future

As seen on Monday’s post-SummerSlam edition of RAW, legendary tag-team The Dudley Boyz made their WWE return, taking out WWE Tag-Team Champions The New Day.

The Dudley Boyz are now back full-time with WWE, and will be going on the road with the company for pay-per-views, television and live events. There’s talk that both Bubba Ray Dudley and Devon Dudley have signed multi-year deals with WWE, however that has not been confirmed as of this writing.

The Dudleyz were kept hidden before coming out on RAW on Monday night, as practically nobody knew they were there until they came to “Gorilla Position” before going out to the ring. Top WWE officials were obviously aware of the fact that they were back, as they had pyro, music and new merchandise ready.

It appears that The Dudley Boyz will be facing The New Day, and possibly The Prime Time Players, who they squared off with on RAW as well, at the September 20th Night Of Champions pay-per-view.

Divas Lash Out Over RAW Crowd Reaction, How WWE Tried To Prevent It

As it turns out, WWE actually scrambled to try and prevent the crowd takeover that occurred during the Divas match at RAW on Monday night.

As reported earlier, Paige, Nikki Bella, Brie Bella and Alicia Fox took to social media after RAW to vent their frustrations about the negative crowd reactions during their six-Divas tag-team match.

Paige tweeted (and then quickly deleted), “You helped us create change and then did your best to disrespect. Niceeeee jobbbbbbbb!”

To counter the negative crowd reactions, WWE actually inserted an extra commercial break into the West Coast feed of RAW, as they actually suddenly cut to a commercial break right when Paige took Nikki into the corner of the ring and hit a shoulder block.

As a result, WWE effectively prevented most of the “boring” chants, “we are awesome” chants and the wave, from airing on the West Coast feed of the show.

It’s worth noting that unlike the aforementioned four Divas, Becky Lynch and Charlotte did not complain on social media. You can check out their reactions below.

Natalya Comments On WWE’s “Divas Revolution,” NXT Takeover Match With Charlotte

WWE Diva and Total Divas star Natalya recently spoke with our friends at Wrestling INC to promote WWE SummerSlam weekend. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On WWE’s current “Divas Revolution”: “I think it’s something that’s been long overdue. There have been so many talented Divas in the WWE and it’s really awesome and refreshing that we’re finally getting a real chance to showcase our talent. I think it’s a testament to the fact that WWE fans across the world are pretty much demanding that the girls get treated better.

It’s not like anybody ever intended for the Divas to have one minute matches before, but if you’re silent and don’t stand up for yourself and you don’t have a voice and don’t use your reach? You can get whomped on. Nobody wants to be a doormat. Nobody wants to be treated like a doormat. As far as the voices of the Divas being heard, I think Vince McMahon is listening. I think you can really see that in the last month or so with the Divas’ Revolution. It’s something that’s really awesome. I’m really proud of all the girls.”

On her match with Charlotte at NXT TakeOver 15 months ago: “It meant everything to me. It was somebody actually believing in me and understanding that wrestling is not just in my blood. It’s something that I think about constantly. I have a passion for it, I’ve studied the history of it, I’ve wrestled all over the world before I ever came to WWE. When you look at Nattie, the character is really just someone who embodies wrestling. So, for me, to be able to show the world a masterpiece like the match I had with Charlotte, it wasn’t just about Nattie, it was about paying it forward.

And that’s what life is all about, is giving back. It’s about using what you have, your reach, your equity, and also being able to help somebody else shine, too. I’ve talked to Charlotte about this: The way that I paid it forward to her, she needs to use her skill to pay it forward to someone else down the road. So hopefully, all of the girls get the opportunity to do that at some point. That match meant everything to me and I think that people really started to look at women’s wrestling differently when they were saying ‘This isn’t just the women’s match of the year, this is one of the best matches of the year.”

Jim Ross Blog: SummerSlam Thoughts, Jon Stewart’s Heel Turn, Lesnar/Taker Finish

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross updated his official blog following the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn and WWE SummerSlam events this past weekend. Below are some of the highlights.

On his overall thoughts of WWE SummerSlam: “I certainly would give Summer Slam a good grade as in a B+. I enjoyed watching it at home even though my Chrome Cast apparatus did not work for me and forced me to watch the show on my iPad. It still worked but not as easy to watch as our big screen TV.

One thing for sure and that it s impossible to make all fans happy these days when it comes to match structure or how the matches end. As I have said, and it’s true, there are multiple ways to do something right in a pro wrestling match and everyone’s taste will never be the same. I had no major issues with any thing that I saw but I liked some things better than others.”

On Jon Stewart’s heel turn: “The Jon Stewart using a chair on John Cena was a head scratcher but hopefully we will find out more about that matter tonight on RAW. I hope that the reason leads to something significant as it should. It would be poor booking if it doesn’t.”

On the finish to Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar: “Interesting and controversial conclusion to the Lesnar-Taker bout that did not adversely affect either man and facilitated a potential rematch in the future, likely at Wrestlemania in April, but perhaps not. That’s TBD I assume but if Taker considers retiring there then a Lesnar-Taker Hell in a Cell match with Lesnar winning in Satan’s Playground would be another ground breaking moment for Brock. Does Taker need to win his ‘retirement’ match? Not specifically and especially if it elevates WWE’s biggest star and monetizes their investment in Brock. Perhaps the ‘rubber match’ will be help prior to WM32 and Taker ends his ‘run’ at the Texas sized event with another opponent that’s unlikely to be Sting.”

Undertaker Injury Update Following WWE SummerSlam

The Undertaker flew home to Texas earlier today and will not be at RAW from Brooklyn.

After collapsing near the backstage area following his match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, The Dead Man was banged up from the match, but was not hospitalized.

Taker had been scheduled to attend RAW (although he was never advertised to appear), but those plans obviously changed.

As noted earlier, Brock Lesnar will be at RAW, with Paul Heyman noting on Twitter that he “plans  on venting a bit” about the controversial finish to last night’s main event.

WWE Hypes Brock Lesnar Appearance On RAW Tonight

In addition to announcing that he will be “venting a bit” on RAW tonight, it looks like his client, “The Beast Incarnate” himself, will also be at the show in Brooklyn, New York this evening.

WWE is hyping up a Lesnar appearance on tonight’s show. Their official RAW preview includes a line that reads as follows:

“Rumors are already circulating that Brock Lesnar himself might stay in Brooklyn for tonight’s Raw rather than fly home to the Minnesota wild.”

John Cena Comments On Jon Stewart’s Heel Turn, Cena/RAW Segment Revealed

WWE is hyping the fact that John Cena will react on tonight’s WWE RAW to losing his WWE United States Championship to Seth Rollins at WWE SummerSlam on Sunday night.

Additionally, Cena commented on Twitter about his loss to Rollins and addressed the fact that SummerSlam host Jon Stewart turned on him, which led to him losing the match — and his title — to the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Cena tweeted the following:

Mick Foley Talks About Conversation He Had With Vince McMahon Before SummerSlam

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley posted the following blog on Facebook recounting the conversation he had with Vince McMahon prior to going out for his opening segment with Jon Stewart at Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view.

GOOD TO BE BACK

Yes, it was great to be back in WWE -even for a night.

Basically, if you get a text saying that Jon Stewart would like you to be his guest at Summerslam, you go – especially if you live 90 minutes away.

Let me share with you the touching words Vince McMahon and I shared before I made my entrance.

Mick: Thank you for this opportunity, Vince.

Vince: Always good to have you back, Mick. Now take off that fanny-pack!

What did you like best about SummerSlam? About SummerSlam weekend? What did you like least? I know not everyone cared for the ending of the main event.

Let me just leave you with the same words I used following the ending of The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania in 2013: “think of the Heyman promos!”

Paul Heyman To Address SummerSlam Main Event Finish Tonight On RAW

Paul Heyman tweeted on Monday morning that he plans on “venting a bit tonight” on RAW regarding The Undertaker’s controversial victory over Brock Lesnar last night at SummerSlam.

Referee Charles Robinson spoke to WWE.com after SummerSlam and said the ringside timekeeper rang the bell on his own. Upon reviewing the footage, Robinson acknowledged that The Undertaker did tap out and he would have awarded the match to Brock Lesnar, had he seen The Undertaker submit. The match continued and The Undertaker picked up the victory after choking out Lesnar with Hell’s Gate.

No matter what Heyman says tonight, it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the last of Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker’s rivalry.
