PROGRESS Matches for Super Strong Style 16 Day 2 Announced

PROGRESS Wrestling will be heading to Alexandra Palace on May 4th/5th/6th for their Super Strong Style 16 tournament. As is traditional the second night of the weekender will see some top non-tournament bouts taking place, including Championship bouts.

Three matches have been confirmed for Night 2 thus far. They are as follows:

  • Title Unification Match – WALTER (PROGRESS World Champion) vs Trent Seven (ATLAS Champion)
  • No Disqualification Match – Mark Haskins, Jimmy Havoc, Mark Andrews and Ligero vs Do Not Resuscitate (Spike Trivet, William Eaver, Drew Parker and Chuck Mambo)
  • Jinny w/ Laura di Matteo vs Session Moth Martina

The Title Unification match was teased as part of a recent Chapter event but is now officially confirmed. Trent Seven won his ATLAS Championship as part of last year’s Wembley Arena show. Seven defeated Doug Williams to retire the UK legend and become the new Champion. WALTER also won his PROGRESS World Championship last year against Travis Banks.

Check out the tweet below for more information on the three day event. Tickets are still available for the tournament as well as Kaiju Big Battel, Junior playing at The Dome and Fight Music at Alexandra Palace.

Bracket Announced for PROGRESS’ Super Strong Style 16 Tournament (05/04)

PROGRESS Wrestling will be heading to Alexandra Palace on May 4th/5th/6th for their Super Strong Style 16 tournament. The brackets for the tournament have now been announced and there are some unbelievable bouts that will be taking place in the opening rounds:

  • Chris Brookes vs Ilja Dragunov
  • Trevor Lee vs Aerostar
  • Travis Banks vs DJZ
  • Artemis Spencer vs David Starr
  • Kyle O’Reilly vs Chris Ridgeway
  • Darby Allin vs Paul Robinson
  • Lucky Kid vs Jordan Devlin
  • Kyle Fletcher vs Daga

PROGRESS announced the full line up for the tournament earlier this month and now with the matches confirmed there’s a few big bouts coming up. Some NXT UK Superstars will be taking part in the event, including Travis Banks and Jordan Devlin. The company has also lined up Lucha Underground’s Aerostar for his PROGRESS debut, he’ll be taking on Trevor Lee which could easily steal the show on Night 1.

SEScoops will be at Super Strong Style 16 and we’ll be bringing you coverage throughout the weekend.

First Two Competitors for PROGRESS Super Strong Style 16 Confirmed

PROGRESS Wrestling has revealed the first two names for their Super Strong Style 16 tournament later this year. The annual tournament is held over 3 days and features some of the best independent (and sometimes WWE) talent across the globe. The World Famous Alexandra Palace in London, England will be hosting the 3 shows once again.

NXT UK Superstar Travis Banks will be taking part in this year’s tournament. The ‘Kiwi Buzzsaw’ actually appeared during the Wembley Arena event last year and confirmed his participation. Banks was the PROGRESS World Champion back in 2018. The South Pacific Power Trip member held the title for a year plus before finally losing to WALTER.

PROGRESS has also confirmed that Ilja Dragunov will also be part of the tournament. The former wXw Unified World Champion has been heavily linked with WWE over the past few months.

Last year’s event was won by Zack Sabre Jr, who unfortunately could not challenge for the PROGRESS Championship at Wembley as initially expected. ZSJ was booked in a New Japan event in the United States, this wasn’t announced until after PROGRESS had confirmed their Wembley main event. Will Ospreay was also removed from the Wembley Arena event, he was expected to face Jimmy Havoc.

PROGRESS Super Strong Style 16 Bracket Revealed

PROGRESS has announced the full card for this weekend’s Super Strong Style 16 tournament. The three day event will be taking place at London’s Alexandra Palace and will feature some of the biggest names from the independent scene, both in the UK and abroad.

The matches are as follows:

  • Chris Brookes vs Kassius Ohno
  • Tyler Bate vs Jordan Devlin
  • Pete Dunne vs Doug Williams
  • Joey Janela vs One of the Grizzled Young Veterans
  • Angelico vs Mark Andrews
  • Keith Lee vs ‘Flash’ Morgan Webster
  • Chuck Mambo vs Zack Sabre Jr
  • TK Cooper vs David Starr

Opinion: As a fan of the UK scene this has to be one of the single greatest tournament line ups I have ever seen. I would quite happily put this up against any PWG BOLA show or even the inaugural WWE United Kingdom Championship field. There are some absolute barn burners in this first round, with some unexpected gems such as Pete Dunne vs Doug Williams pitting the present/future of wrestling against one of the country’s most beloved icons.

My guess is that Chris Brookes, ‘Flash’ Morgan Webster or Chuck Mambo will walk away on Monday night as the next Number 1 contender, but in all honesty almost anyone could win the tournament. Rumored WWE signee Keith Lee could easily be in the final against Kassius Ohno and take the shock win before he departs for the United States…so we will just have to wait and see.

PROGRESS: WWE UK Champion Announced for Britain’s Biggest Tournament
