NXT On SyFy Draws Lowest Viewership Since TV Premiere

While AEW’s audience is on a steady increase since the end of Wednesday night wars, NXT doesn’t seem to be attracting a lot of new viewers. This week’s episode of it has recorded the lowest audience since the show’s premiere.

This Tuesday’s edition of the Black and Yellow brand on SyFy drew a total of 520,000 viewers according to Nielsen which is the lowest TV viewership in the show’s history.

Last week’s episode of NXT drew 709,000 viewers. The numbers this week saw a big 20.5% decline compared to last week’s average audience.

The episode drew a 0.12 rating in the much talked 18-49 demographic which is a 40% decline from last week’s 0.20 ratings in the same demo.

USA Network was airing the Olympics this week due to which NXT was moved to SyFy. This change and the competition from the Olympics seem to have been important factors in the big rating drop.

The show will air on SyFy next week as well so the ratings aren’t expected to improve much. NXT will return to USA Network for the August 10 episode and we will have to see how the viewership rebounds for that episode.

Edited 2-Hour RAW Coming To SyFy Friday Nights

SyFy announced earlier today that a weekly 2-hour (edited down) edition of WWE RAW is coming to the network.

The 2-hour RAW will air Friday nights from 8-10pm EST, the former home of SmackDown. SyFy is of course part of the NBCUniversal family, so it’s an extension of WWE’s relationship with the company.

It will be interesting to see how the rating fares. The Friday night RAW replay probably won’t draw anything close to what the first run show does, but Syfy knows it will still bring viewers and will perform better than a lot of other programming would.

Final Rating For Tuesday’s Live Edition Of WWE SmackDown On USA Network

The Tuesday, December 16th special live edition of WWE SmackDown on the USA Network scored a final cable rating of 1.51, according to Nielsen Media Research. The number was down a considerable amount from the previous week’s taped airing in the usual Friday slot on SyFy, which drew a 1.74 final rating.

Tuesday’s SmackDown “Super Show” averaged 2.027 million viewers, which was also down quite a bit from the average of 2.531 million viewers for last week’s show in the usual time slot.

  • More Evidence That WWE Is Likely Moving SmackDown To Thursday Night

As noted recently, WWE is possibly moving SmackDown to Thursday nights on the SyFy Network, as opposed to keeping it in their normal Friday time slot. At this point, WWE themselves have only acknowledged the rumors in the sense that they claim they are contemplating the idea of making the move, despite the fact that WWE production trucks had SmackDown labeled as “airing on Thursday nights.”

In a move that could be considered as further evidence that SmackDown is changing nights, SyFy announced recently that their original series “Haven,” which features Adam “Edge” Copeland as one of the stars of the show, is moving from Friday at 10pm EST. (after SmackDown) to Thursday at 10pm EST.

SyFy has reportedly always liked the idea of putting “Haven” on immediately after SmackDown, as it features a former popular WWE Superstar in Edge, which allows them to better monetize the wrestling audience.

If SmackDown does move to Thursday at 8pm on SyFy as rumored, “Haven,” now airing at 10pm on SyFy on Thursday night would still immediately follow it.
