When I first arrived we were doing four segments with the girls on one episode. It was nice because we got to showcase not just being boobs and butt, we got to go out there and showcase our talent, what we train to do is wrestle, kick-butt and not just having five minute matches.”
“We were having 12 minute matches, cage matches, the full works. It was amazing and the girls were all shapes and sizes we had the likes of Awesome Kong and ODB and it was just exciting to be a part of.”
Working For Vince McMahon vs. Dixie Carter: “I rarely got to talk to Vince McMahon, I would always say hello if I walked passed him in the corridor but he was always really busy, and I can imagine he has a lot going on in his life.”
“On the other hand Dixie is always around backstage, we can approach her and she has a lot of meetings with us girls and tells us what an important role we have on the show, so that’s nice.”
“I respect Vince, he created a palace and I have learned a lot from both Vince and Dixie.”

Her inspiring story earned her the Pro Wrestling Illustrated award for Inspiring Wrestler of the Year, as announced by Dixie Carter this week.
Highlights from the interview below. You can listen here:
On her rookie year in Impact Wrestling: “It’s been a crazy journey so far. I look back a couple of years ago, and seeing where I am now, there’s no way I thought I’d be where I am right now.”
“It’s truly amazing to see where determination and drive will lead you. From people telling me, ‘Oh no, you’re too small’ and ‘You can’t do those things that everyone else can do because you’re so small’, and you put those people to rest saying, ‘I can do this no matter what’. I had Tommy Dreamer, who’s amazing to me, from the very first day I met him — he actually was the one to say to me, ‘I believe in you, I know that you can do this. Let’s see what you can do at TNA’. Everybody at TNA has been amazing to me too, so I’ve been truly blessed on this whole [journey].”
On winning PWI’s Inspirational Wrestler of the Year award: “I remember when I was first presented the award, I was amazed. Usually when I’m shocked, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God’ — I just lose my breath and I [get] lost for words. I just looked at it like, ‘Oh, my God, this is amazing’.”
“I just remember bringing it home to my mom and she just started crying. She couldn’t even believe that her daughter — her crazy little daughter [Laughs] — actually touched the lives of other people to say that I’m an inspiration. It was an absolute honor.”
The screen time & opportunities afforded to the Knockouts division: “I think it’s super important [to have the screen time and opportunities the Knockouts receive]. Back to what I was saying about Hardcore Justice, I mean, despite the fact that myself and Sarita lost against [Brooke] Tessmacher and Tara, that was one of my favorite matches and that match alone was a good 10 minutes. When was the last time you really got a [Divas] match that’s over two minutes in WWE?”
“I’m just glad that we are given that time to show everybody who we are and show everybody what we have. And everybody is so different — you can look at Sarita and know that [there is] no comparison to Velvet Sky or Angelina Love. Everybody has their own certain characters. Everybody has something that they bring to the table.”
“I think it’s great that we get so much airtime to show that, and if you look, sometimes there’s more than one Knockouts match. You’re lucky if you get one Divas match in WWE.”
On her on-screen cousin Sarita overcoming the difficult year she’s had with facial paralysis & a nasty fall in Mexico: “From the moment I met Sarita, you can see that she is just, from top to bottom, inside and out, tough. She’s very tough. She’s very sincere, and she’s very sweet, but she’s tough as nails. No matter what, she will always get up from a fall. She didn’t let facial paralysis stop her from performing. She didn’t let that fall [in Mexico] stop her from coming back to the Impact Zone and doing what she does best and I couldn’t be more proud of her because there’s just some things, people are like, ‘Okay, I’m not going to go wrestle anymore after that’ or ‘Not my face, no’, but she’s not afraid of anything. It’s crazy. That’s another reason I look up to her.”
— The Wrestling Observer reports that much of Karen Jarrett’s demeaning on-air dialogue designating Velvet Sky as a promiscuous woman is based on how certain TNA Wrestling officials legitimately view the Knockouts Division star.
— Former WWE talent Maria Kanellis is advertised to face Tara in her return to the squared circle on February 25, 2012 for New York City based promotion Family Wrestling Entertainment.

He’ll get his shot at the upcoming “Genesis” event in January. However, Hardy won’t get any rest on Thursday, as he’ll face Bully Ray in one-on-one action!”

The TNA Knockout wrote Sunday on Facebook, “I survived yesterday’s earthquake in Mexico City (6.7!) and made it safely into Orlando today. Hug somebody you love.”

TNA Knockout Tara has posted a new video message to her fans and heaped praise on fellow knockout Sarita. After catching one of their fans paying each of them the same compliment, Tara talks about what sets Sarita apart from the rest of the women in wrestling today:
“I think of her as hands down, the toughest, most disciplined female in the history of professional wrestling,” Tara says. “The girl had facial paralysis—half of her face was paralyzed. If that was me, I’d be in a hospital. She puts on a mask and wrestles. A couple of weeks ago at a match in Mexico, she dove out of the ring and landed on her head on the cement. She was taken off on a stretcher. After that, I would have been at home in bed eating ice cream. Where was she? Competing in a bodybuilding contest—first place.
“So if you’re going to write Sarita a letter, don’t tell her she has a great butt. Tell her she is one of the toughest athletes to ever compete in our business.”
Former WWE Women’s Champion and TNA Knockouts Champion, Lisa Marie Varon, better known as Tara in TNA and Victoria in WWE, joins us for an exclusive interview about her career.
Lisa talks about many topics including her time in WWE, her current run in TNA, the reaction to her YouTube video with Brooke Tessmacher about the “Thanksgiving Thong Thunder” match, what it’s like teaming with Brooke and writing for Chicago Athlete magazine. Plus, Lisa reminisces on the “good old days”, the golden era of the Divas division, what it was like being part of the first ever Divas cage match (this week is the anniversary of that match) and much more.
Talking about her longevity in wrestling and being on TV for nearly 10 years: “I’m very lucky. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had injuries — a torn ACL in 2002, my elbow in the cage match with Mickie — but I don’t know how nothing has taken me out. I do work out hard and listen to my body when I need rest. It was hard in WWE to travel four days a week and maintain the healthiness in your body. I was very lucky to get seriously put out.”
“It’s very unusual for a 40-year-old to be competing against 20-year-olds coming in the ring. It’s tough. It’s a bit intimidating for me. I’m looking for the fountain of youth as well. But I think I have accomplished a lot, because I’m still good out there in the ring. I don’t feel like I’ve lost my flow.”
“My age was 29 and a half when I started in this business. I get a lot of people on Twitter, they always ask me, “Am I too old to get in the business?” and I hate saying that you’re never too old to get in the business, but when they look for the wrestlers, they do generally look for the 18-25 year olds that they can mould and create into their own. There’s always that special 30-year-old. I was better in my 30s than in my 20s, like being physically in shape and at my peak. I like to be a positive role model for people my age, even though I don’t act my age. [Laughs]”
Her future in wrestling & wanting to stay at her best: “When I do sign my contract, I sign year-to-year with TNA. I had the option [to do that] which I was very lucky [to have]. I have to listen to my body. I want to be on TV as long as I’m at my best. I don’t want to be where you see me limping down to the ring and feel sorry for me. That’s kind of why I left WWE. I don’t know if you remember the last couple of years of my career at WWE, what did you think of me? You kind of felt, “Oh my gosh, she’s not a champ”. I was helping the new talent look good in the ring, so that wasn’t really my best. I was really flattered that I was able to do that and everybody had confidence in me to make people look good in the ring but that didn’t make me feel like I was giving the fans the best Victoria. I wasn’t happy doing that, so I moved on. But I had a terrific, terrific career there.”
On Gail Kim’s TNA return: “You know what? That girl! I’m gonna kick her butt. I text her and I said, “I heard you’re coming today”. She goes, “Where’d you hear that from?” I didn’t want to say who I’d heard it from so I said, “Oh, just a rumor on the internet” and she goes, “You can’t believe everything you read”. I know that was my favorite saying. You can’t read every internet site. There are some things that are reported wrong. I saw her at the show and I go, “What the heck?!” and she goes, “Hahaha!” I said, “I knew you were coming! I don’t know who you’re trying to pull one over!”
“But I’m so excited to have her back. Her and I were travel partners. We get along so well and I’m so happy to have an old friend back in the ring. I wanted to win that number one contender’s match, though. I’ll be honest with you, because Gail Kim and I can really throw down in the ring. We never got the opportunity in WWE. We had a couple of matches but it was just a match thrown here and there, but I think we can really work up to something dangerous. I’d like to do another cage match, maybe, with her. That’d be awesome!”
