Tatanka Comments On His WWE Career

Former WWE Superstar from the ’90s Tatanka recently did an interview with Ringside News to talk about his run with the company. He first talked about not having ever won WWE gold during his run and how the meanings of titles have changed over the years:

“People were asking me at today’s signing, “Well, we’ve never seen you with a championship belt.” The belts were different. In today’s business, they’ve lost there meaning because they exchange hands too much.

“The belts back then, they were a tool to get someone over the top. The company also used other ways to get people over, like having a two-year undefeated streak. When it comes to the belts if you’re already a fan favorite, you don’t need a belt.”

Tatanka then revealed his favorite televised loss of his WWE career:

“While they referred to me as The Undefeated Native American Tatanka. I finally had that first defeat against Ludvig Borga on tv, with the help of Yokounza with Mr. Fugi, it really meant something. You know, fans were like, “Oh my gosh!”

Finally, Tatanka offered his thoughts on Ludvig Borga:

“They(WWF) really liked him and wanted to push him. Not like a Hulk Hogan but they wanted to give him a strong push, but he just didn’t get the flow of things in the ring. He was too robotic. They used him to defeat me so they could elevate his career. So it shows you just how important that two-year streak was.”

  • WWE Bringing Legends Back To Raw, Bearer Addresses Absence

    – The Wrestling Observer reported last week that with the ratings success of the weekly “Legends” segments on Raw, WWE officials are strongly considering making the feature routine by having one former Superstar brought back on every show. PWInsider.com reports Monday that internally, the belief is that the re-emergence of former talent such as Vader, Sycho Sid and Bob Backlund caused part of a lapsed wrestling audience to tune in to WWE programming again. Should WWE continue the angle, names most likely to resurface are Tatanka, Steve Blackman and Big Daddy V. Those three and several other alumnus were contacted to appear on Raw 1,000, but WWE officials ultimately changed their minds and limited the Heath Slater gang beating to the APA and those who had already participated in the storyline.

    – Conspicuous by his absence last week on Raw 1,000 during the Brothers of Destruction reunion between The Undertaker and Kane was longtime manager Paul Bearer. When Bearer last appeared on Raw in April, he was kidnapped by Randy Orton and then stuck in a storage freezer while strapped to a wheelchair. Kane later came for Bearer, only to roll him back into the freezer and say, “I’m saving you…from me.” A Twitter user pondered whether Bearer’s noticeable absence stemmed from the legendary manager still being locked up in the freezer. Bearer responded, “Yeah….. still in the freezer, dumb ass.”

Bearer also said of his whereabouts, “I am not going to waste my time playing your silly “where were you” games. I never said I would appear, not scheduled, enjoyed being home.”

The Princess Bride, featuring WWE Hall of Famer Andre the Giant in a starring role, will be screened for free this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

  • Tatanka Reveals Who He Wants To Induct Him Into The HOF

Arda Ocal of The Score Television Network spoke with former WWE Superstar “The Native American” Tatanka while he was in Toronto to promote his upcoming appearances for CWI Wrestling (www.cwiwrestling.com). Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Looking back on the two-year undefeated streak and why it didn’t lead to something bigger than it did:

“It did lead to a big thing, it lead up to Yokozuna, lead up to Ludvig Borga. Ludvig Borga was the one who actually defeated me. But Ludvig Borga, (WWE) had big plans for him, they really wanted to push him to the sky. They really wanted to do some real big things with Ludvig Borga, but it just never caught with him.”

Does Tatanka think about the WWE Hall of Fame, has his name come up at all and who you would he like to induct him?

“Ricky The Dragon Steamboat would be awesome, and the reason for that is because when I started the business, I was in the North Carolinas and we just hit it off. Im one of those guys that beleive that you never become successful by yourself.”

    * Whether or not there was ever any other consideration for a character for Chris Chavis before Tatanka was chosen.

    * His Wrestlemania IX match with Shawn Michaels in 1993 and having the honour of “opening WrestleMania.”
