The Real Reason Paul Ellering Split From The Authors Of Pain

Former NXT stars The Authors Of Pain have been called up to the main roster, but after having a successful first outing on RAW they decided to drop longtime manager Paul Ellering from their ranks.

Much speculation began to swirl as to why this decision was made, the most common assumption being Ellering no longer wants to travel as much nowadays given his age. Ellering recently ditched that rumor on Twitter with an explanation of his own:

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reports that the Ellering/Authors Of Pain split had nothing to do with travel. WWE reportedly wants the Authors Of Pain on their own now and would prefer Ellering to stay on NXT and help younger talent.

Johnson added Ellering would’ve done anything WWE wanted, even if it meant traveling, but they decided to go this route instead.

Discussion: Was it a mistake to have Ellering split from the Authors Of Pain?

Former NXT Tag Team Champions Debut On WWE RAW (Videos)

Heath Slater and Rhyno came down to the ring and called out anyone from the back to face them. Akam and Rezar came down to the ring and dominated in quick fashion. Akam and Rezar planted Heath Slater with the Last Chapter for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Akam and Rezar shoved Paul Ellering away and left him behind on the entrance ramp. It appears that The Authors of Pain want nothing to do with their manager anymore now that they have joined the main roster.

The Authors of Pain were a dominant team in NXT. They competed in a Triple Threat match at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans this past Saturday night against Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong and The Undisputed Era. Roderick Strong betrayed Pete Dunne during the match and ensured the victory for Undisputed Era.

Akam and Rezar are set to make an immediate impact on RAW’s tag team division.

(Spoilers) Updated Takeover Card: Big Dusty Classic Change, Ladder Match, More

NXT Tag Team Champion Bobby Fish was at tonight’s NXT TV tapings but was on crutches after suffering a knee injury at a weekend live event. PWInsider reports that Fish is scheduled to undergo knee surgery later this week in Birmingham, AL.

There’s no word yet on when Fish will be back from the surgery but it was announced at tonight’s tapings that he and partner Kyle O’Reilly will put their titles on the line at “Takeover: New Orleans” during WrestleMania 34 Week.

In a change of plans, perhaps due to the injury, the finals of The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic came down to air on NXT TV instead of Takeover. Roderick Strong and WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne vs. The Authors of Pain was set to begin as the finals but Adam Cole and O’Reilly attacked both teams for the contest. NXT General Manager William Regal then announced a Triple Threat for Takeover with Dunne & Strong vs. The Authors of Pain vs. O’Reilly & Fish with the winners being crowned Dusty Classic winners and NXT Tag Team Champions.

It was also confirmed at the NXT tapings that the Ladder Match to crown the inaugural NXT North American Champion will feature EC3, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan, Killian Dain, The Velveteen Dream & Ricochet.

Here’s what looks to be the updated card for Takeover, which takes place on Saturday, April 7th from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Stay tuned for more updates & clarifications on the Takeover card.

The Authors Of Pain’s In-Ring Debuts, Kevin Owens On Full Sail Crowds

The Authors of Pain with WWE Legend Paul Ellering, who attacked American Alpha at Takeover: The End last night, will make their NXT TV in-ring debuts next week against two local wrestlers.

On a related note, the Full Sail University fans got heat from wrestlers and other fans at Takeover when it appeared they were chanting “who are you?” at Ellering. It’s still not clear if they were chanting at Ellering or The Authors of Pain in the ring but Kevin Owens took to Twitter and voiced his opinion, as seen below:

Identity Of New NXT Tag Team Managed By Paul Ellering

It looks like WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering of Road Warriors fame is now managing “The Authors of Pain” Sunny Dhinsa and Gzim Selmani in NXT.

The two have been wrestling at house shows for a while but debuted at Takeover and laid out American Alpha tonight, right after their NXT Tag Team Championship loss to The Revival.
