Sheamus Praises Cesaro’s Genius and Their Legacy as The Bar

The Bar, one of WWE’s most celebrated tag teams, left an indelible mark on the company’s tag team division during their run. Comprised of Sheamus and Cesaro (now Claudio Castagnoli in AEW), the duo brought a fresh dynamic to the ring with their seamless chemistry, hard-hitting style, and inventive storytelling.

In a recent discussion on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, Sheamus opened up about the profound influence Cesaro had on his career and the unforgettable moments they shared as a team. The Irish wrestler credited his former partner with reigniting his passion for wrestling at a pivotal time in his career, saying,

“Cesaro…is one of the reasons why, at that stage of my career, he totally reinvigorated me.”

One of The Bar’s defining moments came during their bout at WWE’s Roadblock: End of the Line event in 2016. Sheamus fondly recalled their innovative “fake tag” finish, a creative spot that cemented their reputation for pushing the boundaries of tag team wrestling.

“That fake tag finish was incredible…so creative,” he said, emphasizing Cesaro’s knack for thinking outside the box.

Sheamus also shared a lighthearted moment from their time together, mentioning Cesaro’s backstage nickname:

“Big Dick Tony—that’s what everyone calls him by the way in the locker room.”

While the remark added humor, it also highlighted the respect Cesaro commanded among his peers.

Reflecting on their time as The Bar, Sheamus expressed immense gratitude for the partnership that brought new life to his career. Together, they not only set a high standard for tag team wrestling but also forged a bond that continues to earn Sheamus’s admiration.

The Bar’s Legacy in WWE

sheamus cesaro

The Bar, formed by Cesaro and Sheamus on September 26, 2016, became one of WWE’s most dominant tag teams. Their achievements include four Raw Tag Team Championship reigns and one SmackDown Tag Team Championship reign, which they won on October 16, 2018. Notably, they ended The New Day’s record-breaking 483-day title reign and triumphed in WWE’s third-ever tag team Iron Man match against The Hardy Boyz at Great Balls of Fire on July 7, 2017.

Despite starting as an unexpected pairing of singles competitors, The Bar cemented their legacy with their powerhouse chemistry and iconic Spinebuster-Brogue Kick combination, establishing themselves as one of the most formidable tag teams of their era.

Cesaro Discusses If He’d Want to Reform The Bar When Sheamus Returns

WWE Superstar Cesaro recently spoke with Sportskeeda. During the interview, Cesaro addressed whether he had any desire to reform The Bar with Sheamus once his former partner returns to in-ring action.

“I was lucky to be in some very great tag teams with people I’ve gotten along with tremendously well: Jack Swagger, Tyson Kidd and Sheamus. ‘We The People’, by the way… That was our idea and it’s still over!”

He continued, “It’s great, being part of a tag team is a different challenge than obviously having success as a singles. I’m really stubborn about trying to be successful as a singles wrestler, so that’s what I’m focusing on right now. I still talk to Sheamus pretty much every day, giving each other c**p! Just like you saw on television.”

Cesaro recently shared how he had no interest in returning to WWE’s black-and-gold brand. He told Corey Graves during WWE’s After the Bell podcast that he wants to succeed on RAW and SmackDown rather than succeed on NXT.

His former partner, Sheamus, has been away from in-ring competition since this past April. He last competed in a six-man tag team match with Cesaro and Drew McIntyre. They lost to the New Day.

Cesaro Reveals How He Discovered The Bar Had Been Disbanded

Cesaro is back to competing in singles action after becoming one of the newest additions to Monday Night RAW. This move, made during the Superstar Shake-Up, saw the end of The Bar, his tag team with Sheamus.

Turns out that Cesaro wasn’t even fully aware the team were being split up until WWE changed his travel plans. It was at this point that he realised that The Bar was no more.

In an interview with TalkSport, Cesaro recounts discovering this news and his initial reaction to it.

“[…] I was traded after the Superstar Shake-Up. So, I actually thought that The Bar may not have been broken up, you know? You never know! Then, all of a sudden I get a message like ‘Hey, your travel changed,’ and I’m like ‘Ah, OK yeah, guess I’m a RAW guy now!’

This change brought a surprise end to the duo. They had been teaming together since 2016 after then General Manager, Mick Foley, forced them to team together after their best-of-seven series against one another.

Addressing their beginnings, Cesaro stated that “”For all I know, yes, it was [Mick’s] idea to put us together. He saw something in that, and he was lobbying for the best-of-seven series and then to make us a team. So, thank you, Mick!”

During their time as a team, The Bar would go on to win the RAW Tag Team Championships four times. They have also won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

The Bar Vs The Usos With Title Implications Booked For Smackdown

WWE Smackdown tag team champions, the Bar, will take on the Usos Tuesday night on Smackdown. Should Jimmy and Jey defeat Cesaro and Sheamus, they will have earned a title match against the champions at a later date.

“In a high-stakes match, Jimmy & Jey will face off against Sheamus & Cesaroand,” a WWE press release for the match reads. “if The Usos can prevail, they will receive a future SmackDown Tag Team Title opportunity.”

Smackdown will take place in the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena this Tuesday from Jacksonville, Florida.

The Bar vs the Usos and the Smackdown Tag Team Division

The last time the Bar defended the Smackdown tag team championships, they won a triple threat match at TLC. The other teams involved in the match were New Day and the Usos.

The Usos were the lone surviving team in the tag-team traditional Survivor Series match in November. Meanwhile, the Bar lost to then-Raw tag team champions, AOP, later that night. Last time out, however, the Usos went to a no-contest with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows due to outside interference.

The last time the Usos and the Bar met on WWE programming, it was the Usos who picked up the victory. That match occurred on an episode of Smackdown from Minnesota on November 27th.

Nicholas Takes Shot At The Bar’s SDL Tag Team Title Win

Last night (Tues. October 16, 2018) was certainly a day to remember for professional wrestling fans. Especially for The Bar. Sheamus and Cesaro teamed up and defeated The New Day to capture the SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles on SmackDown 1000. This was after some assistance from The Big Show, who turned heel and seemingly joined forced with The Bar.

Shortly after the victory, former RAW Tag Team Champion Nicholas took to Twitter to fire off a shot at The Bar. Here’s what he had to say:

“Congratulations to  and  for winning the  SmackDown Tag Team Titles!! couldn’t do it at Mania…just saying.”

For those of you who might not remember, Nicholas was selected by Braun Strowman to be his tag team partner at WrestleMania 34. “The Monster Among Men” picked Nicholas, son of WWE referee John Cone, out of the crowd. Together they defeated The Bar to capture the RAW Tag Team Titles.

It should be noted, Nicholas never engaged in any physicality in the match. He was tagged in for a few seconds before tagging back out. The following night on Monday Night RAW, however, Strowman and Nicholas vacated the titles.

What do you think about Nicholas’ shot at The Bar?

The New Day Retain The Smackdown Tag Team Titles at WWE Super Show-Down

The Smackdown Tag Team Championship match opened WWE’s Super Show-Down event earlier tonight. Champions The New Day retained against Sheamus & Cesaro. Cesaro rolled Xavier Woods up for a two count as Kofi Kingston made the save from outside the ring. Kofi then hit Sheamus with a Trouble in Paradise out on the floor before tagging in. Woods hit a Backstabber on Sheamus before Kofi hit a double stomp off the top rope to secure the three count.

What Happened After SDL & 205 Live Tapings?

Last night’s (Tues. July 24, 2018) episode of SmackDown Live featured some great moments. Andrade “Cien” Almas was in action against Rusev, The New Day collided with Sanity once again and Samoa Joe emerged as the next opponent for AJ Styles’ WWE Title.

After SmackDown Live went off-air WWE held its tapings of 205 Live as well. When the Cruiserweights wrapped up their show, WWE put on a big Six-Man Tag Team dark match featuring some of SmackDown Live’s biggest stars.

WWE Champion AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan and Jeff Hardy took on the team of United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro). “The Phenomenal One,” Bryan and Hardy picked up the victory and sent the crowd come happy:

Paige Announces Teams For Smackdown Tag-Team Tournament

Earlier this week, Smackdown General Manager Paige announced a tag-team tournament. The winners will receive a title shot against the Bludgeon Brothers. She has now released the names of the 4 teams which will be participating in the tournament.

The Usos, New Day, Sanity, and the Bar are all entered. The most notable team not included in the tournament is Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows. A possible reason the team wasn’t included in the tournament is that they have already lost two title matches on television to the current champions.

Watch Paige’s announcement:

Smackdown Tag Team Division vs Raw Tag Team Division

Although the SD tag division consists of fewer teams than Raw’s, it arguably has the stronger ones. New Day are the longest reigning tag champions of all-time, the Usos are arguably the hottest tag-team on the roster, and Cesaro and Sheamus are multi-time champions as well.

Meanwhile, on Raw, the titles are currently held by Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. The B-Team defeated the Deleter of Worlds at Extreme Rules for the belts. Other Raw tag-teams include the Revival, the Authors of Pain, Ascension, Titus Worldwide, and Breezeango.

Paige As Smackdown General Manager

Paige took over as Smackdown General Manager on the first episode after WrestleMania. The night before on Raw, Paige announced she was not medically cleared to compete. It’s possible she never competes in a WWE ring again but she doesn’t seem to be abandoning hope.

Prior to Paige’s appointment, the show had been run by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. After Bryan’s reinstatement as a wrestler, however, he stepped down as brand GM. Shane McMahon stepped away from the role after WrestleMania as well, citing his problems with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens as a reason why.

NXT Star Suffered Injury During Takeover, Why The Bar Has Been Off TV

NXT Star Suffered Injury During Takeover

Both Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan gave everything they had during the NXT Tag Team Championship match at Takeover: Chicago II but they still failed to defeat the Undisputed Era for the titles.

However, now it appears that this loss was not the only bad news for the duo coming out of the special event as Pwinsider reports that Lorcan suffered an injury, during the same bout.

The site reveals that Oney suffered a broken orbital bone and he is set to have surgery to repair the damage. No word yet on when the surgery will take place or how long he will be out of action but we’ll keep you posted.

Why The Bar Has Been Off TV

Former Raw Tag Team Champions The Bar Sheamus and Cesaro were moved to SmackDown Live during the Superstar Shakeup earlier this year, however, the duo hasn’t been featured much on the Blue Brand.

Since the Greatest Royal Rumble event in April, the two have appeared on only three episodes of the Blue Branded Show, making many wonder about their status.

Now in an update, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer revealed the reason for their absence and killing the rumors about them on Twitter, Meltzer stated that the only reason why the former Champs have been away from TV is because the creatives don’t have anything planned for them.

What Is The Secret Behind The Bar’s Success?; Velveteen Dream Takes Shot At Ricochet

What Is The Secret Behind The Bar’s Success?

Cesaro replied to a photo uploaded by Sheamus of himself on Twitter, revealing what the secret to The Bar’s success is:

Velveteen Dream Takes Shot At Ricochet

Velveteen Dream took a shot at Ricochet on how he used to get low pay after matches in the indies.

Ricochet vs Velveteen Dream

Ricochet and Velveteen Dream both failed to capture the NXT North American Championship to become the inaugural champions at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. On May 9 Dream confronted Ricochet which led to a match the next week which ended in a no contest as Lars Sullivan attacked them both. The two then teamed up to take on Sullivan in a handicap match a week later but Dream back-stabbed his partner Ricochet during the match and they lost. On last week’s episode of NXT Dream challenged Ricochet for a match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago which Ricochet accepted.

The two will face off each other at WWE NXT TakeOver: Chicago II which will take place on June 16 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago.

Young Bucks Offer To Face The Bar At WrestleMania, How Much Vince McMahon Is Worth

– On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW The Bar retained their RAW Tag Team Titles against The Revival. Sheamus and Cesaro currently have no challengers for their titles at WrestleMania 34. “The Celtic Warrior” sent out an open challenge to all tag teams via Twitter to challenge them at “The Show Of Shows”:

PWInsider reports that The Bar’s challengers at WrestleMania 34 are “not currently a team.”  The Young Bucks took to Twitter to declare their interest in possibly answering the call in New Orleans:

https://twitter.com/NickJacksonYB/status/971164075660009472

https://twitter.com/MattJackson13/status/971251309486727169

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter was asked about this possibility. He didn’t seem very optimistic:

“Anything is possible, but realistically that’s close to impossible.”

– Forbes’ 2018 Billionaire List reports that WWE’s Vince McMahon is ranked number 1,394 with a net worth of $1.7 billion.

The Shield Set To Face IC Champion and RAW Tag Champions Tonight On RAW

After several battles with make-shift teams, The Shield will take on the Intercontinental Champion and the RAW Tag Team Champions.  Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns, face up against The Miz, Sheamus and Cesaro.

Roman Reigns has been off duty with a viral infection, causing the shock change to the TLC PPV card that saw Kurt Angle complete the 3 vs 5 main event.

Triple H also appeared at a house show in Glasgow, donning the tactical vest and ending the match-up with a 3-man powerbomb which was made famous by Roman and his fellow Shield members.

Last week saw RAW Under Siege Part 2, with The New Day raising the alarm, forcing Kurt Angle to call all superstars into action to chase off the invasion during a tag team title match: Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs Sheamus & Cesaro.

The Bar was able to take advantage of the confusion, causing a surprising change of champions, who will now face The Usos at Survivor Series.

But before then, The Bar will have to team up with the Intercontinental Champion, The Miz, to take on a recovered Shield team that will feature the original 3 members.

Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose will be looking to seek revenge for losing their titles, and Roman Reigns will be looking to make a statement on his return by sending a strong message to The Miz and anyone else who thinks that they can mess with The Shield.

While the match won’t feature any title changes that affect Survivor Series, it holds potential to be an extremely good showdown between the 2 groups before The Shield takes on The New Day on Sunday.

Opinion:

Whether you have a positive or negative opinion of Roman Reigns, it’s hard to not feel excited about seeing all members of The Shield in the ring together taking on the current top heels in the brand.
