WWE 2K16 Apparently Getting The Tokyo Dome In Next DLC Pack

At a couple different points tonight, the official WWE Games Twitter account tweeted these animated GIFs to hype Tuesday’s release of the Hall of Fame downloadable content pack for WWE 2K16, which is out this Tuesday:

It was already known that 1991 versions of Ric Flair and Tatsumi Fujinami plus a relevant match replay mode were in the Hall of Fame pack, but they had two matches that year. It seemed like it made more sense for 2K to base it off their match from Superbrawl in St. Petersburg, Florida, but from the above footage, it looks like they didn’t. Instead, 2K picked the OTHER Flair-Fujinami match, from the NJPW Tokyo Dome show that year, which is known as both WCW Japan Supershow and NJPW Starrcade ’91 In The Tokyo Dome. So that means that the arena that comes in the pack is an ersatz Tokyo Dome, faithfully recreated by 2K Sports. They can’t call it that (and I don’t believe WWE games ever name real venues), but 2K does a great job with the presentation of the arenas and this should be no exception.

Here’s the full lineup for the DLC pack, which, if this is any indication, should also include at least two more WCW arenas and some early ’90s WWF arenas along with period appropriate versions of the wrestlers:

  • “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts
  • Rikishi vs. The Rock
  • Alundra Blayze vs. Paige
  • Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Dustin Rhodes
  • Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Ric Flair
  • The Bushwhackers (Butch Miller and Luke Williams) vs. The Natural Disasters (Typhoon and Earthquake)
  • The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) vs. Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray)

Bushwhacker Luke On His WWE HOF Induction, Not Talking To Vince At The Ceremony, More

WWE Hall Of Famer Bushwhacker Luke recently spoke with the folks at The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast about his induction this year and more. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On whether he ever expected to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame: “Never would have thought we would end up in that. When we started there was no wrestling on television in New Zealand. I’m not just talking wrestling on television but television itself. On Saturday or Sunday night you would sit and listen to the Soap Operas on the radio. To promote a wrestling show you would actually go down to a radio station and promote it there or just put posters around town so when you walk the streets at lunch time, the main streets of town is where everyone congregated. It has really all come a long way. When we walked out on that stage, I looked out and saw some of our friends from 1970s in the audience like Roddy Piper, it was just so great to be on that stage. At last we are on the biggest platform in sports entertainment.”

On if he spoke to Vince McMahon prior to his speech: “No, no we only talked to Jimmy (Hart) and Terry (Hulk Hogan) in the morning. When we first went in the back we were just going over old times and BS’ing like it was in the ’80s. It’s a completely different ballgame today.”

On what caused the switch from the villainous Sheepherders to the lovable Bushwhackers: “When we first went up there and met with Vinny (Vince McMahon) he said to us that he wanted to make us “good guys” and Butch got up on Vince’s desk and his nose was about fifth teen inches from Vince’s nose and said; “If you can make these faces good-guys then go ahead”. Vince turned around and said check out the mugs on my top baby faces; Hogan, Jake (Roberts), Hacksaw Jim Duggan they aren’t the prettiest. He said I want you guys to be between the Moondogs and the Sheepherders but I want you as good guys. Butch said to me afterwards, that the Moondogs have been on the USA Network for five years, we were on Ted Turner’s WTBS off and on for ten years so let’s create something different. Hence, what we came up with. The marching and the licking and all of that BS. Vince gave us a new name but we came up with the characters.”

On the creativity of the team and the origin of the infamous Bushwhackers’ march: “I’ve got to give it to Butch. He came up with that. We were always creative, when we first came over to North America in 1972, we were Sweet William and The Brute but he (Butch) had to change his name because the Brute here was Brute Bernard. He had been all over Canada and the States so they changed his name to Crazy Nick Carter, so it was Sweet William and Crazy Nick Carter and I led him around on a chain. I was doing that from around (19)69 to 73-74, we were doing the Beauty and the Beast gimmick at the time and we constantly changed our gimmicks. When we went back to New Zealand in the mid-70s to do the first television shows we went back as The Dream Team which later on in life I saw Vince had Greg Valentine and Brutus the Barber as the Dream Team. When we were the Sheepherders we would go to the outside and when we were out on the floor we would go “WHOA” to the people. That was the Whoa and Yay. We had done that before as heels swinging our arms in the air to sort of scare the people at ringside at the barrier. So we decided to put that into our baby face thing, knees up high and swinging the arms.”

Bushwhacker Luke Talks About Butch Challenging Vince McMahon Backstage, The Sheepherders

Bushwhacker Luke recently spoke with The Tampa Tribune to promote his upcoming induction, alongside his tag-team partner Bushwhacker Butch, in this year’s WWE Hall Of Fame. Below are highlights from the interview.

On liking The Sheepherders team more than The Bushwhackers: “The Bushwhackers made me more money but — I hate to say it — I loved The Sheepherders more. Fans would sit down, stand up, sit back down and then stand up again when we wrestled. We had them really rooting against us. They wanted us to lose.”

On Bushwhacker Butch challenging Vince McMahon: “My partner hopped onto Vince’s desk and went nose to nose with him and said if you can make people cheer for these ugly faces, then try. We didn’t believe it could happen”

Bushwhacker Luke Talks WWE Hall Of Fame Induction, Butch’s Health & More

Luke Williams of The Bushwhackers, this year’s tag-team inductees into the WWE Hall Of Fame, appeared on Main Event Radio recently to talk about their induction. Below are highlights.

On being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame: “To all the fans, thanks for pushing for the Bushwhackers to get in [the WWE Hall of Fame]. I knew in January mate, they notified us that we were picked to get into the Hall of Fame. I don’t know how it happened, but here we are.

On the Hart Family and three generations of Samoans: “I worked in the ring with and against all the Harts – with Stu Hart, with Smith, Bruce, Keith, Bret, Dynamite Kid. Not many people can say that. Bret was a piece of talent. Both he and Shawn Michaels, when I worked with HBK when he was 18 years of age, I knew already that both of those guys would go far in life. I was fortunate in that I worked against Peter Maivia, I worked against Rocky Johnson, and I worked against the Rock in the last year of mine in the WWF.”

On the culture shock when he first came to North America: “I had never been in cars with electric cars and electric windows. I had never seen escalators or elevators. I had never seen microwave ovens. The first time I ever saw an electric carving knife I thought there people are bloody lazy, never saw one before!”

On transitioning to the Bushwhackers: “We came in as the Kiwis from 1971-1979. Then we became the Sheepherders in 1979. The transition to the Bushwhackers was easy for us. Vince said he wanted us to be between the Moondogs and the Sheepherders. The Sheepherders had been on TV for 10 years, the Moondogs for many years – so we decided that we wanted to create something different than either of those teams. Moving away from the roughhouse style, we were professionals – we went from a wrestling company in the NWA to a celebrity company. They [NWA] sold wrestling; WWE/WWF sold celebrities – Hulk Hogan, Wrestlemania. I’m a Sheepherder because I’m wild and hardcore at heart. But the Bushwhackers made the money; Vince’s promotion put my face around the world.”

On Bushwhacker Butch’s health: “He left me in 2002 due to sickness. He was in the hospital for 12 weeks, in a really bad state. He was in ICU for 11 days, arms strapped down and on tranquilizer. If I hadn’t found him, a few hours later he would have been dead. He’s much better now. After the 12 weeks he packed up and went home to be with his kids and grandkids. In 2010, he had a relapse and woke up in the hospital. They took his hip out, and didn’t put another one in until 2012. He will be using crutches, but he will be at the Hall of Fame.”

On today’s stars: “I was around in ROH when Bryan was there, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, CM Punk, Tyler Black [Seth Rollins] – great bunch of guys, turned out to be great workers. Dean Ambrose, he’s a bit of a lunatic, he worked for me. I was a booker for years, originally for Joe Blanchard in 1983 and then in Puerto Rico with Bruiser Brody and Stan Hansen and Abdullah the Butcher. Then more recently for eight years in IWA Puerto Rico with Savio Vega and Vampiro and Ricky “Mesias” Banderas. Abyss was created by me and Dutch Mantell. I gave him the mask and put him in the ring, and Dutch gave him the name Abyss.”

WWE Teasing Diva Hall Of Fame Announcement For Monday’s RAW

WWE is promoting another WWE Hall Of Fame announcement to take place on Monday’s edition of WWE RAW, which takes place from New Jersey.

The official WWE website has an article up today hinting that the next Hall Of Fame announcement will be for a WWE Diva.

“Who will be joining “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rikishi and The Bushwhackers in the Hall’s Class of 2015 the night before WrestleMania 31?,” stated the WWE website.

The article continues, “Could it be a pioneering woman grappler who competed alongside the likes of Mae Young and The Fabulous Moolah? Could it be one of the Japanese women who brought their hard-hitting style to America in the early 1990s? Is it one of the sultry Divas from the infamous Attitude Era? Is it even a competitor, or could it be a woman who often accompanied legendary Superstars into battle?”

The belief is that the Diva that WWE is alluding to will be Madusa (aka Alundra Blayze).
