Matt Hardy: Jeff Hardy Wants to ‘Right the Wrongs’ in WWE Return

Matt Hardy says his brother Jeff Hardy wants to ‘right the wrongs’ with his WWE return.

The Hardy Boyz are set to make a return to WWE programming next week after years. The duo will be representing TNA Wrestling and face off against Tavion Heights and Myles Borne at the February 25 edition of NXT.

The Broken One opened up about his excitement about the upcoming appearance on his podcast. He revealed that the whole thing came together very quickly and he is not sure where it is headed:

“Really excited about this, man. All this stuff — even us popping up and responding to that challenge on NXT, that was a very last-minute thing. So it’s going to be interesting. It’s going to be fun.

I don’t know where this ride’s going. I really don’t want to know where this route is going in all capacities. Because I want, especially whatever we end up doing, I want everything to be as natural and as organic and as real as possible, as authentic as possible.”

He Wants To Show Them Who He Is: Matt Hardy

For Jeff Hardy, the return would be a sort of redemption after his infamous walkout during a live event match that led to his WWE release in December 2021. After his failed AEW run, the Charismatic Enigma has expressed interest in making a return to the company in recent times believing that he could retire CM Punk before going into Hall of Fame.

Matt Hardy also revealed how his brother feels about the comeback claiming that Jeff wants to use the opportunity to show everyone who he really is:

“He’s very happy to be going back and I feel like he wants to right the wrongs, he wants to leave on a good note, no more erratic behavior. He wants to go back and show them who he is.”

The Attitude Era star expressed the belief that WWE waited this long to do something with The Hardys as part of the TNA deal because they wanted to see how Jeff fared in his TNA run.

The PWI 500 and the Hardys: How a magazine helped a scared kid after Sept. 11

Two weeks after the attacks on Sept. 11, a then 12-year-old Jacob Grondy was on his way to the airport – and he was scared.

Not only was this his first flight, but he was dealing with what many in the country were feeling – fear of flying due to the recent attacks. But a surreptitious introduction with a few pro wrestling passengers – thanks to the just-released Pro Wrestling Illustrated Top 500 issue – assuaged his fears.

Grondy’s flight out of the Raleigh, N.C. airport was shared by the Hardy Boys, Amy Dumas – who wrestled for the WWF at the time as Lita – and Shane Helms on board. They were four of the hottest acts in the WWF at the time and were heroes to a 12-year-old Grondy, especially after they turned what could have been a traumatic experience into one of his favorite childhood memories.

“I was honestly trying to act tough,” Grondy said. “But as we were getting closer to the airport, I was visibly scared. I wasn’t talking at all, which was extremely rare (for me) as a kid.”

On the way to the airport, his dad gave him a copy of the PWI 500 issue to read and keep his mind off the recent attacks. Growing up in North Carolina, Grondy said he was immersed in pro wrestling. As a kid he watched WCW and the WWF religiously and was excited when ECW made its TNN television debut. He’s continued to be a fan well into adulthood. He hosts a podcast called Curtain Jerkin’ on Spotify.

The issue provided a bit of a distraction, but it was who he saw in the airport that relieved his fears.

“I don’t remember anything other than getting to the terminal, sitting down and looking up – and there was Jeff Hardy,” Grondy said. “He was dressed exactly how you would see him on TV. I leapt up in excitement. My dad had a pen on him and gave it to me so I could ask to get my PWI signed.”

Jeff walked Grondy over to his brother Matt Hardy to get his autograph. Matt then said they should get him Lita’s as well. As he walked back to his dad, his dad was smiling with relief, that he wasn’t as scared as he had been when he got to the airport. As he sat back down, he was approached by Shane Helms – who had just joined the WWF after the WCW sale and was beginning his Hurricane Helms gimmick. He said Helms asked to sign the issue, then asked if he could read it on the plane.

“As I let him read it, that’s when I realized that no terrorist was going to take down this plane, Team Extreme wasn’t going to let that happen,” Grondy said.

Grondy shared this story with Jeff at a meet-and-greet a year ago.

“He thought it was pretty cool.”

Grondy and his dad were flying to the United States Grand Prix in Indianapolis. It was the final race of the Formula 1 season, and was the first international sporting event to take place after the Sept. 11 attacks.

“(I) couldn’t tell you who won the race we went to, but every year the PWI 500 comes out I look back at that moment fondly. It was definitely a childhood highlight.”

Matt Hardy Responds To Fan Complaining About Jeff Hardy Being On Dark

Matt Hardy has responded to a fan complaining about Jeff Hardy being featured on AEW Dark: Elevation this week.

A fan noted how people were complaining when Jeff Hardy was in WWE and he was featured on Main Event a few times, while he is on Dark now.

Replying to him, the wrestling veteran noted how Tony Khan treats legends with the utmost respect. He revealed that the AEW owner had asked for their consent before putting them on the show:

“I’ll give you insight. TK treats veterans/legend with the utmost respect & uses us the same. It’s refreshing. Tony asked us if we were ok being on & we were both happy to. We want to work with young stars like Top Flight. It’s a treat to work at AEW.”

Matt Hardy first announced his departure from WWE back in March 2020 after his contract expired. He ended up joining AEW later that month, making his debut during the March 18 episode of Dynamite.

Jeff Hardy on the hand remained with WWE until late last year. He was released in December 2021. He has since joined his brother in Tony Khan’s promotion and returned to tag team action.

WWE Releases Ultimate Deletion ‘Behind The Scenes’ Footage

WWE has released a short video on their official YouTube channel which shows some ‘behind the scenes’ footage from the ‘Ultimate Deletion’ shoot earlier this year.

In a promotional short for tonight’s ‘WWE 24: The Hardys: Woken’ former TNA/IMPACT Wrestling on screen personality and producer Jeremy Borash is shown describing the filming concept behind the Broken/Woken segments. One of the more interesting takes from the video includes this statement from Borash; “If it fits in TNA, great. If it doesn’t fit in TNA then we’ll take it somewhere else. Obviously it found the best home it could, to have the most eyeballs which is WWE.

One of WWE’s senior figures Michael Hayes is also present in the video, where he discusses the ‘drone’ portion of the original TNA concept with both Borash and Matt Hardy, claiming that “If we don’t do more than what you guys did we’ll all be in trouble” (alluding to Vince McMahon expecting ‘more’ than the original concept).

The WWE 24 Network special on the Hardys will be released tonight immediately following Money In The Bank. You can check out the preview video below:

Matt Hardy Shares His Thoughts On TNA, Kevin Owens, Hardy Boys Still Going Strong

TNA Wrestling performer Matt Hardy recently spoke with Sean Ross Sapp of Wrestling Inc about a wide variety of topics. Below are some of the highlights of part one of their two-part interview.

On his match at tonight’s Impact Wrestling and being in such a high-profile position at this stage in his career: “It’s always an honor to be in a top position. When it comes down to it, I’m a kid who came from a small down in North Carolina and the dream was to become a professional wrestler. Obviously my brother and I have been very successful, but I still have a passion to be as good as I can be. I realize after 24 years that it’s hard to be as athletic as I used to be, but I feel like I have a lot of mileage in the tank. To go into this Full Metal Mayhem match tonight and challenge for the world title is very special. I guarantee people will walk away from this match in disbelief that Matt Hardy is still doing these things when he’ll be 41 in a month. That’s my goal coming out of this. I feel like no one can represent TNA better than I can right now.”

On both of The Hardy Boys wrestling at age 40 despite people thinking they wouldn’t due to their style in the ring: “I don’t know, man. I never try to predict the future. Even when we started with the WWE and were doing regular matches, the pace, the moves. We were doing splashes and Jeff was taking flat back bumps to the floor, and our finish was a legdrop/splash. The veterans who watched our matches said we wouldn’t be able to walk by the time we were 35. It was very scary. To still be a part of that right now and be able to do the things I do, I’ve had to totally change my thing. It’s a lifestyle, and you can tell the changes I’ve made in the last year. I really just try to work hard and stay passionate about things. I’m very lucky, I think.”

On still working crazy stipulation matches this late into his career: “Honestly, I didn’t expect it. I’m pleasantly surprised that I feel as good as I do. I try to be a statement for someone who is a regular person in this business and their longevity. I’m living proof that it can happen. I’ve been through struggles and survived. I was with the Young Bucks this weekend and we were talking about how intense Kevin Owens’ schedule was. For 12 years I was doing ten days on, four days off, then 5 days on, a day and a half off. There’s no way to describe the damage that puts on your body, especially if you wrestled a high impact style like I did. These TNA TVs are a little challenging sometimes because we have several days back-to-back. We did that recently. It was aggressive and tough for me. As soon as I was done, I’d get back to the room and sleep for an hour, then I’m up training, stretching, staying in survival mode. I really had to change my game. I have to make wrestling my lifestyle and what I build my schedule around.”

On his thoughts on TNA as a whole: “I encourage fans to check out TNA on Destination America not just tonight, but each week. We have a lot of really great programming and wrestling, and I think maybe some older fans who fell away from the brand would really enjoy it.”
