The New Day Discusses Possibility of Turning Heel

The New Day members, King Xavier Woods and Big E, shared their thoughts on turning heel.

Metro.co.uk Alistair McGeorge spoke with them about if they considered making the change. The group is currently working as babyfaces and is thriving. However, WWE fans may remember the group performed as heels in the past. Woods responded positively to McGeorge’s question and shared why.

McGeorge transcribed the quotes.

“… It’s just super fun to scream at little kids, ’cause when we were heels before, our stuff would see kids getting legitimately mad and upset at us. It’s just so much fun to be snarky, to be rude and disliked,” said Woods.

He also compared working babyface and heel. “It’s great being cheered, and people pulling for us and being the good guys – both sides are really fun to play, but I wouldn’t be mad at it at all. We love that. We talk about it all the time.”

Big E Thoughts on Turning Heel

Former WWE champion Big E also expressed intrigue in the group making the change. He admitted that he has so much fun being a heel. However, he also wants it to be an organic decision to switch roles.

“…My feeling is if we do turn, it feels organic, and it feels natural again. Unfortunately, we’re in a position right now where our reactions are pretty damn good. So, I don’t see that happening any time soon, but who knows,” said Big E.

Both Woods and Big E are open to turning heel, but it won’t happen anytime soon. Big E shared that he’s enjoying doing charitable work that helps because he is a babyface.

“What I’m doing in the ring dovetails so well into all the things I wanna do outside of the ring, as far as just charitable work, just telling my story with my issues with depression and mental health,” said Big E.

What’s Next for the New Day

The group is hoping to get back to becoming champions. Woods and Kofi Kingston lost their opportunity to regain the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at Day 1 on January 1st to the Usos. While the feud could continue, the Usos won the match clean.

Big E lost the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar in a Fatal Five-Way match at the same event. Big E also lost clean like his partners, and Lesnar pinned him. The WWE could give Big E another opportunity at the WWE championship in the future. However, he lost a Fatal Four-Way match to Bobby Lashley to become the number one contender to face Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.

The New Day will have to work their way back to gaining championship opportunities. It’s unclear what the WWE has planned for them. While they are not rushing to become heels, the role change could give them a fresh start.

Angelo Dawkins Shares His Dream Match for Wrestlemania 38

The Street Profits Angelo Dawkins has shared his dream match for Wrestlemania 38. This year, the event occurs at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on April 2nd and 3rd.

Dawkins appeared on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, where he revealed his dream match. He wants to team with Montez Ford to challenge The New Day and The Usos in a three-way tag team match for the Raw and Smackdown Tag Team Championships. He also wants to show that The Street Profits are on the same level as both teams.

“…Us, me and Tez vs. The New Day vs. The Usos for all the marbles. Both tag team titles on the line,” said Dawkins. He explains, “We beat The New Day at Survivor Series. We have yet to beat the Usos. They probably have the best rivalry in tag team history, pretty much. New Day being dawned the greatest tag team ever in WWE history, and the Usos are right up there with them at the mountaintop, and we’re the new kids on the block that are still trying to find our way, but we scratch the surface because we beat The New Day, but now we have to beat the Usos, but if we beat them both, we’re right up there with them.”

Street Profits Waiting on Wrestlemania Moment

The Street Profits have yet to perform at Wrestlemania in front of a crowd. WWE didn’t have them on Wrestlemania 37 last year. They also won a tag team match against Angel Garza and Austin Theory at Wrestlemania 36 on April 5th, 2020. However, due to Covid-19, they wrestled to no audience. When asked by Satin if Dawkins was frustrated that The Street Profits weren’t at Wrestlemania 37, Dawkins said he wasn’t.

“…Everything happens for a reason. I’ve always prided myself for being a patient guy, and I got a feeling that we are going to be on this year’s Wrestlemania. If not, we’ll be on next year’s Wrestlemania. I’m just going to have that mindset, and patience has always been a key for me and Tez, and we’ve both like prided ourselves on that no matter what,” said Dawkins.

What’s Next for The Street Profits

The Street Profits lost a Raw Tag Team Championship match against RK-BRO at Day 1 on January 1st. The Usos also defeated The New Day to retain the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at Day 1. However, it doesn’t look like their rivalry is over. For Dawkins to have his dream match, The Street Profits will need to win the Raw Tag Team Championships. If that happens, the WWE could potentially have The Street Profits vs. The Usos vs. The New Day in a winner takes all match at Wrestlemania 38. It’s unclear if WWE has plans for The Street Profits, but Dawkins seems to have an exciting idea for fans.

The New Day vs. The Bloodline Announced For Monday Night Raw

A massive six-man tag team match has been announced for the Sept. 20 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw.

On the Sept. 17 episode of SmackDown, newly-minted WWE Champion Big E made a surprise appearance. He and Finn Balor defeated WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos. Backstage after the match, The Usos attacked Big E.

As a result of what transpired on SmackDown, Big E will team with his New Day brethren Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to take on WWE Universal Champion Reigns and The Usos. The official Twitter account of WWE made the announcement.

AJ Styles & Omos Dethrone New Day As WWE Raw Tag Team Champions

The New Day made their latest defense of the WWE Raw Tag Team Titles against AJ Styles and Omos on the first night of WrestleMania 37.

The match happened in the middle of the pay-per-view event. It featured The New Day beating down AJ for the first few minutes. When Omos got the first tag, he got a nice pop. Omos no sold their moves and tossed them around the ring. Omos got the win with a powerslam.

Less than a month ago on an episode of Monday Night Raw, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods beat Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander to win the Raw Tag Team Titles when Kingston connected with a foot stomp off the top rope for the win.

This was a significant win for The New Day as they set their personal record of holding the straps 11-times and surpassed Dudley Boyz for the most Tag Team Championship reigns in WWE by a set of partners reigning together.

WWE was quick to move onto the next program as Styles cut their celebration short by walking down to the ring with his bodyguard to cut a promo about how he’s held all the titles in WWE except for the tag team straps. As a result, he issued the challenge for a match at the biggest event of the year for WWE.

The New Day On Title Win: “Don’t Be Mad At Us For Doing Our Job”

The New Day were able to win tag team gold again on this week’s Monday Night Raw as they became 11-time tag team champions. They defeated the top tag team on the Raw brand — The Hurt Business’ Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin to become the new Raw Tag Team Champions. Fans weren’t too happy with this decision however, as the win was met with reactions like “Again?”, “Tired of seeing them as champs,” etc.

Another reason why New Day’s new title reign was met with bit of a negative reaction was because it put a halt to the momentum that The Hurt Business was enjoying going into WrestleMania 37 with Bobby Lashley as the WWE Champion. After their Raw match, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were interviewed backstage where they noted fans’ censure against their title win.

“We told a lot of people what was going to happen. A lot of people are upset — ‘Oh, we’re tired of seeing New Day as the champions!’ Don’t be mad at us, be mad at Cedric, be mad at Shelton for not being to keep the tag team championships,” Kofi Kingston hit back at the criticism. “Be mad at all your favorite tag teams for not being able to step up against your boys. Be mad at them, don’t be mad at us for doing our jobs. All we do is we go out there, we entertain, and we win championships. That’s it. Don’t be mad at us, be mad at your favorites.”

“This is our 11th time. When you’re a child you think, ‘I wanna be a WWE Superstar.’ You don’t even fathom the fact that you can possibly become 11-time WWE World Tag Team Champions and then it becomes your reality,” Xavier Woods said regarding his run as part of The New Day. “You feel that? Our dreams are sueños, have become our realidad. Don’t be mad at us. We are frothing at the mouth for more teams. Please believe it. We want to beat up new teams, we want to pin new teams, we want to make new teams tap out. So come to us, wherever you are.”

The New Day were also challenged to a match at WrestleMania 37 by AJ Styles and Omos who came out to the ring after New Day’s match. Styles said he has held all title in WWE except the tag team straps, and now he’s eyeing them. A match for the titles was later confirmed by WWE for WrestleMania.

The New Day Win WWE Raw Tag Team Titles, WrestleMania Match Confirmed

The New Day is not only just the top tag team on the Raw brand again, but they’ve also received opponents at WrestleMania 37.

During Monday’s Raw, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods beat Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander to win the Raw Tag Team Titles.

The finish saw Kofi catch Benjamin with a head kick then Woods hit with an elbow dive off the top rope and finally Kingston connected with a foot stomp off the top rope for the win.

As a result, the group has held gold 11-times. They have surpassed Dudley Boyz for the most Tag Team Championship reigns in WWE by a set of partners reigning together. Also, this marks Kingston’s 13th Tag Team Championship reign of his WWE career. He is just behind Edge for having the most total Tag Title reigns in WWE history by an individual Superstar.

The New Day Win WWE Raw Tag Team Titles, New WrestleMania Match Confirmed

After the match, AJ Styles came out to the ring for a promo where he talked about how he’s held all the titles in WWE except for the tag team straps. He and Omos challenged The New Day for the titles at WrestleMania 37.

Kingston questioned whether they were registered as a tag team or if they knew how to work as a pair. Woods accepted the challenge.

The New Day Wins WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles, Group Split Up

The New Day has been crowned the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

The title change happened during Friday’s episode of SmackDown on FOX as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods capture the titles by defeating Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura from Orlando, Florida at the Amway Center.

This marks the seventh time that The New Day has been champions on the blue brand. Earlier in the night, Kingston and Woods reunited with Big E during a backstage segment.

That reunion didn’t last long as it was revealed after the match that not only had Big E been drafted to SmackDown, but Woods and Kingston had been moved to RAW with the blue branded titles.

Yes, the SmackDown Tag Team Champions have been drafted to the red brand even though RAW already has tag team champions, at least for now.

Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura beat Big E and Kingston in a Tables Match at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event in Orlando, Florida at the WWE Performance Center back in July.

Woods underwent surgery to repair an Achilles tear last October after suffering the injury while competing inside of the squared circle.

Big E On If He Feels Ready For A Singles Run

A lot of people including many legends have praised Big E over the years and characterised him as a potential world champion if the New Day member wrestles as a singles competitor. Now that he is finally getting a chance to showcase his skills on his own, the former IC Champion feels that he is ready to go solo after being a team player for over half a decade.

Big E recently had an interview with Yahoo Sports and discussing his singles run, the former Tag Team Champion mentioned how it all came out of nowhere. Though he later said that he hopes that the people who have clamoured for this for years will not be disappointed:

“This is all kind of coming out of nowhere. I feel confident that I am ready for this. The interesting thing and weird thing is we don’t have that organic response. I hope people enjoy this run, I hope it’s good and entertaining, I hope all of the people who have clamored for this for years are not disappointed.”

Even though he is getting the opportunity for a singles run, the former NXT Champion still sees himself as a representative of the New Day and he believes that his singes achievements will add up to the legacy of the group:

“I always see it as I am a representative of the New Day. The same way that Kofi credited Woods and me and said that when he won it was for all of us, that’s the same feeling I have.  This adds to all of our legacies because I don’t get this far, I don’t have this much without those two. I don’t even know if I am around in this company without those two.”

Xavier Woods has been out of action due to an Achilles injury since October last year. Kofi Kingston revealed during the July 24 episode of SmackDown that he will be out of action for 6 weeks after losing a Tables match at Extreme Rules, effectively giving Big E his first singles run since the formation of the group in 2014.

Big E Talks Favourite Match and Eddie Guerrero Being The “Greatest Ever”

WWE Superstar and member of The New Day Big E recently commented on his favourite WWE match and his love for Hall of Famer and legend Eddie Guerrero.

“I think the longer I’ve been in wrestling? The more I jump on the case for Eddie [Guerrero] being the best of all time” Big E began on The New Day: Feel The Power podcast. “Because just watching this stuff man, he could go with every style of wrestler. He was so fluid as a base, doing lucha stuff, like he could do everything you needed to do to work all these different nuances and styles? He could do.”

Big E on Halloween Havoc 1995

Big E would then discuss specifically a bout between Guerrero and Rey Mysterio from Halloween Havoc 1997. Kofi Kingston had previously revealed on the podcast that this was, to him, the greatest wrestling match ever. “And then some of the stuff? I just remember just seeing little clips from that match we’re talking about with with Eddie and Rey. It is so fluid, It’s like video game stuff, it’s so fluid. So, that’s a great choice.”

The SmackDown Tag Team Champion would finish by revealing his own ‘Greatest Match Ever.’ “I feel like it’s a lazy answer but I was gonna go with Sean and take her at WrestleMania 25, and 26 was also a great as well.”

Xavier Woods On What A New Day Cinematic Match Would Look Like, WWE’s Coronavirus Challenges

WWE Superstar Xavier Woods has detailed what a cinematic matchup featuring the New Day might look like. Speaking with The No-Sports Report podcast, Woods shared his excitement over the idea. He confessed that WrestleMania 36’s Boneyard match “really touched my soul.”

According to Woods, a cinematic match with the New Day would be set in a “weird, magical, like a rainbow world.”

Within this world, there would be an ominous shadowland where they don’t go. But, when they do, it would be “game time.”

“So, uh, lots of sunshine, lots of rainbows, lots of inanimate objects talking to you… It’d be super weird,” Woods stated. “I like the dissonance between something horrible happening like us just being someone to a pulp with like a nice, children’s music like “Baby Shark” playing in the background.”

Xavier Woods On WWE’s Coronavirus Challenges

Xavier Woods then addressed the challenges WWE has been facing during the coronavirus pandemic. He spoke about Superstars having to wrestle in front of zero fans and the difficulties of attracting new fans during this time.

He admitted he could imagine wrestling in front of an empty arena. Woods compared it to his experiences on the independent circuit. According to him, he had plenty of experience wrestling in near-empty locations to either “no people or like three people.”

He added how wrestling for three people was, in some ways, “more daunting than no people.”

He explained it’s because “[…] now you’ve got these, these six eyes on you and it freaks you out. But luckily the guys and girls that we work with are skilled enough to understand what factors of wrestling – whether it’s promos or matches – need to be altered and changed to go along with what the current situation is.”

Xavier Woods shared how this element is what he really likes about pro wrestling. To him, wrestling is akin to “live performance art.”

He explained how it’s not about having the perfect match or promo. Instead, it’s about how you adapt and improvise if that match or promo derails:

“[…] this is one of those things where everything got derailed essentially and now everybody’s figuring out how they can look into their old school playbook like, ‘Okay, how do we do this?’ And they’re in there doing it.”

Wrestling Attracting New Fans During COVID-19

With few opportunities for live sports or entertainment currently available, Xavier Woods speculated how those curious about wrestling may be tuning in for the first time:

“I feel like a lot of people who didn’t enjoy it or may not have talked about it at all beforehand, might be watching it now.”

Woods added that people could potentially be seeing things on Twitter and feel compelled to give WWE a chance. He argued how, after a few more clicks, these people could be watching RAW or SmackDown. He acknowledged how there has been a “heightened level of conversation about WWE during all of this.”

Woods’ Achilles Recovery During Quarantine

Having been sidelined due to an unfortunate Achilles injury, Xavier Woods shared how he has been recovering at home during the pandemic.

He shared how he has been recouping whilst ensuring he is “being functional.”

He stressed how “being able to hang out with my kid” has been the best thing for him during this tough time.

Xavier Woods acknowledged that it’s a difficult time for so many worldwide. He added that he would be lying if he said he wasn’t enjoying the quality time at home with his family.

Big E On The New Day Being Declared “The Greatest Faction Of All Time”

WWE Superstar Big E has reacted to a WWE article that argued that his stable, The New Day, is the “greatest faction in WWE history.” Joining WWE show The Bump, Big E shared his thoughts on the article, admitting he didn’t know how to take it.

Big E admitted that the honor being bestowed is undeniably cool. He added how his job is to go out and perform and the best he can be, whether that’s in the ring or on the mic. He added how it’s the job of the fans and the media to determine who the best faction of all time is.

“Part of me thinks that this is flattering because I can think of many great factions,” Big E said. “I will say though, we’re not done yet, there are no other active factions – maybe Undisputed Era, I guess you could say because you don’t know what their reigns will look like or titles that they’ll win – but, this is not a conversation for me to decide. I’ll let people like you [The Bump panel] decide the greatest faction.”

He then reflected on the current coronavirus pandemic. Big E confessed it has been difficult for him and Kofi Kingston to keep their spirits up. This is especially true as they are competing in front of zero fans and receiving no live reactions. It’s something he misses as they love their fans.

Big E credited the fans with helping to establish the New Day. He stressed how if it wasn’t for their genuine reactions, they wouldn’t have been able to adjust their performances.

WWE Superstar Cesaro Talks ‘Beach Ball’ Incidents

WWE Superstar Cesaro recently appeared on The New Day’s ‘Feel The Power’ podcast. The ‘Swiss Superman’ discussed a number of topics from his WWE career, including the incidents involving ‘beach balls’ in the crowd. The most infamous was during SummerSlam 2017, when Cesaro went into the crowd and ripped up a beach ball on camera.

“Magic things like that just happen and you cannot plan that.” Cesaro began, recalling the moments. “I love it right. So, that was in Brooklyn. And I remember it must have been, I think it was like SummerSlam right? I think it was SummerSlam or something like that.”

Royal Rumble 2017?

Cesaro then talks about an incident that may or may not have occurred, unfortunately there’s some inconsistencies in the story. “Maybe a couple of months earlier it was me and Sheamus against Rollins and Ambrose, and it was at the Royal Rumble. We ended up going on after the Men’s Royal Rumble match and I think that was when Shinsuke won it.”

Nakamura actually won the Royal Rumble in 2018, and after that match Sheamus and Cesaro faced Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan. Watching the match back there doesn’t appear to be any incident, so he may have just got confused with another bout. Potentially from a house show around that time.

“So the crowd just was crazy (following Shinsuke’s win) and we go out and it’s just really hard to get them back into the match. Certain spots on the card are sometimes tougher to get the crowd into it. But I’m always like ‘no, forget it. Don’t worry, we’ll, we’ll get them out, I’ll find a way.’ We all find a way to do something.”

Frickin’ Beach Balls

Cesaro elaborated further, talking about the crowd not reacting to the match itself. “You’re look up and there’s frickin’ beach balls, and I’m like ‘why are they not paying attention?’ I look over there’s a beach ball. We’re all just trying our hardest to make it great right? I think Sheamus and Rollins are in there and like Sheamus is like ‘what’s going on?’ Because like he doesn’t see the beach balls he’s focused on [what’s going on] in the ring right? And I just look at Sheamus, I see the beach balls jumping around and I’m like ‘I don’t want to jump in the crowd, and then not get the beach ball. I’d look like an idiot (laughs).'”

‘SCREW THAT BEACH BALL THIS IS MY MATCH!’ – Cesaro

Cesaro finished by discussing how cathartic the feeling was of destroying the distraction to his match. “I wait till like one of our security or something just secures it, so now it’s in one place. And I just look at Sheamus he goes like ‘DON’T MOVE’ (laughs). I run over and grab it. It’s just like one of those like ‘no screw you (the fans) this is OUR thing.’ So when I saw that beach ball I was like ‘okay I’m not gonna let that beach ball ruin my match.’ I was like, ‘SCREW THAT BEACH BALL THIS IS MY MATCH!’. Again an organic moment that was authentic.

The New Day On Backstage Politics, Deciding Who Wrestles

During an episode of their podcast, Feel The Power, The New Day opened up about how they deal with backstage politics. They also broached how they decide which member of the group wrestles in a matchup.

“I feel like when you really look at [backstage politics], a lot of it is getting that tough skin, so you know you can bite back because cutting promos is how we sell [pro] wrestling.” Woods explained, “so if you can’t do it in the back, then they don’t think that you can do it out there.”

How The New Day Decide Who Wrestles

Woods broke down how they usually decide who wrestles in a matchup. He detailed how the first step is for everyone to share their “selfish” reasons for being in the match. Once those are out in the open, the trio will discuss those reasons before talking about why everyone else should be in the match. This process leads to a detailed discussion.

Despite this democratic process, there is also an element of rotation in play:

“[…] a lot of times, the rotation is, whoever wasn’t in gets rotated out, so like if it’s E and Kof, next it will be me and E, and then, it’ll be me and Kof. And then, Kof and E. Yeah, me and Kof are Speed Force. And then, Kof and E is Pops & Powers. And then, me and E are Muscle Bomb. Yes, E’s the muscle, Kof is the speed, and I’m the hybrid, so I’ll kind of adjust to whoever.”

At the time of writing, The New Day is not currently scheduled for a matchup at WrestleMania 36. The event is set to place on April 5 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

John Morrison & The Miz Win SmackDown Tag Team Titles At WWE Super ShowDown

The New Day won’t be staying on top of the SmackDown Tag Team Division as John Morrison and The Miz dethroned them.

At Thursday’s WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the King Fahd International Stadium on the WWE Network, Morrison and The Miz beat The New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston) to win the titles.

Starting last month, Miz and Morrison began feuding with The New Day (Big E and Kingston). Morrison would defeat Kingston and Big E on the January 17th and January 24th episodes of SmackDown.

Eventually, on the January 31 episode of SmackDown, Morrison and Miz defeated Heavy Machinery (Otis and Tucker), Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado), and The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) in a fatal four-way tag team match. With this win, they earned a championship match at Super ShowDown.

Time will tell whether WWE continues this feud or goes into a different direction heading into the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event next month.

The New Day Reveals Their Dream Matches

The New Day did a special Q&A during the latest episode of their new Feel The Power podcast and during the show, the trio answered questions about their dream matches.

Xavier Woods was the first to answer the question. Interestingly he said that his dream match would be the New Day going up against the Elite, a match which the Young Bucks had also revealed to be their dream match just recently.

The New Day then talked about their individual dream matches as singles performers and revealing the opponent he wants to go up against, Kofi Kingston said that his dream scenario would be facing Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania:

“Going up against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania. To me, Shawn Michaels is the greatest to ever do it…I’ve never seen him have a bad match and most of the matches that he are in, they are not good, they are great. So to me he’s the greatest of all time so growing up that’s what I would always want.”

Xavier Woods also revealed his own singles dream match and the New Day member said that he would like to go up against former ECW star 2 Cold Scorpio.

Woods dubbed him as the ‘greatest wrestler of all time’ and Big E agreed to his comments by saying that Scorpio does some crazy stuff for being a big man and people don’t give him enough credit.

The New Day Talk ‘Trash’ Promos That WWE Creative Have Given Them

The New Day made some interesting comments regarding their original heel turn back in 2015 on the latest episode of The New Day: Feel The Power. The trio discussed their first turn back in 2015 on the show and also discussed some members of the WWE creative team and how they would present “trash” to the group to say on air in promos.

“I don’t like when there’s the three of us and a writer is just kind of in the room just lingering.”

“We don’t write our own promos, I don’t want to say that” Big E began. “We are given promos and often times, Mike, who we always consider the fourth member of The New Day, when he left…actually he left right after we won the [tag team] titles for the first time. He was gone and moved on to new things in Hollywood, we [then] had some other writers that didn’t gel as well with us, and we were able to thankfully, with Vince, we were able to get a promo and say ‘we don’t really care for this. So we aren’t going to say that, that AANNND that.'”

Big E elaborated further, saying “let’s go huddle in a room for an hour and we’ll come up with what we wanna say. We’ve said this many times, our creative process together…is so fun, and easy and organic. I don’t like when there’s the three of us and a writer is just kind of in the room just lingering. I don’t want to take shots at anyone. But if we just read what was given to us on a regular basis…basura, basura, basura…THAT MEANS TRASH. Man, we’ve had some real stinkers.”

“I feel like all those people on the internet do talk about that and make that point.”

Xavier Woods also interjected with some interesting insights into WWE’s creative process and how The New Day managed to start apart. “To that point, which I didn’t think we were jumping into. I feel like all those people on the internet do talk about that and make that point. ‘Oh this was bad, this was bad.’ But I feel like there are certain situations…wrestling definitely being the top one. Where if you have someone writing something for you that doesn’t have similar life experiences, or the same sense of humor. Or has nothing really in common with you, it’s a lot harder for them to write in your voice. I feel like that’s something that we definitely ran into.”

“You can’t tell me what New Day is, I invented this”

Kofi Kingston is the longest tenured member of the group, having joined WWE over a decade ago. The former WWE Champion discussed how Vince McMahon would let the New Day find their own promo groove; “I feel like I’ve heard so many writers try to ‘sell’ me a promo. ‘You would say this, New Day would say and feel this..’ It’s like hold on a second, you can’t tell me what New Day is. I invented this, you know. You can’t tell us how to be us. Just let us have our process. He who shall not be named (Vince McMahon) would often get the promo we sent back. He’d read it and then just be like ‘I don’t get it. But if wanna do it just let them do it.’ Because he got it. The fact that we know our characters well enough and we connect with the people. That’s all that he [Vince] wants.”

Big E did also mention that he doesn’t want to pull “all of the onus” on WWE creative for the bad promos. As he mentions that there’s certain talents who just aren’t that good at talking; including himself in the early part of his career.

The New Day Retain SmackDown Tag Team Titles At WWE TLC

The New Day is staying on top of the SmackDown Tag Team Division as The Revival didn’t dethrone them.

Big E and Kofi Kingston successfully retained the SmackDown Tag Team Titles over Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder at Sunday’s (December 15, 2019) WWE TLC pay-per-view event.

WWE set up this title match back on the December 6th episode of SmackDown when the company crowned new #1 contenders.

A Fatal 4-Way Elimination Tag Team Match was booked that saw Chad Gable & Ali, The Revival, Heavy Machinery, and the Lucha House Party battle it out.

As seen in the contest, The Revival ended up winning. As a result, Dawson and Wilder were crowned the new #1 contenders.

The two tag teams have been feuding quite a bit over the last few months. In fact, The New Day beat The Revival to win the titles on November 8, 2019 from Manchester, England at the Manchester Arena on a taped episode of SmackDown.

Time will tell whether WWE officials plan to move on from this feud.

New Day Slams WWE Creative’s Ideas For Their Faction Name

WWE Superstars Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods revealed some interesting details about how WWE decided on calling their faction, The New Day.

‘The New Day: Feel The Power’ is now on the second episode. The group ran down the ‘list’ of potential names that they could have been called originally and were given by WWE creative, some of which they found completely ridiculous.

The Tribe!? – The New Day

Some of the names included Healing Through Harmony, The Tribe (which they completely lambasted for racial reasons) and The Commotions.

Kingston stopped whilst going through the list and names and said “it’s one thing to have the thought and to put it on a piece of paper. But to actually like submit it as a possible name…like this is our likelihood man.”

The Modern Marvels

Xavier the chimed in and said that a terrible stable name would’ve likely been the end of his WWE career. “Let us recap, y’all were both set. If [it didn’t work out] you (Big E) would’ve gone to NXT and Kofi would’ve stayed on the main roster, I’d of got fired. I’ve we were called THE MODERN MARVELS, I would’ve been gone.”

Big E also had some comments regarding the list, mentioning his most memorable name. “The one I didn’t need to check an old email to see was…KBX.” Woods then said “Let’s break that down. Kofi starts with a K, Xavier starts with an X and your first name…” Big E then replied “is Big?”

Submission Sorority & PCB

The New Day also mocked names that WWE creative came up for two women’s factions.

“We wouldn’t have lasted five years with a name like that, I wipe my cheeks with that name” Big E said of the Submission Sorority. “In fact you can actually customize toilet paper…I should customize toilet paper with KBX on each sheet. This harkens back to Paige’s group’s name, the Submission Sorority.”

Xavier Woods then discussed the ‘copyright’ issues surrounding that name, PCB stable, which consisted of Charlotte, Becky Lynch and the since-retired Paige. Woods said, “for one that’s already copyright-ten, and two, that’s not something that WWE can co-sign on.”

Big E then chimed back in, saying “so, we can’t use that name, we have Paige, we have Charlotte, we have Becky…let’s refer to them as PCB! Oooooh we did it!.”

New Day Reflects On Early Comparisons to the Nation Of Domination

Speaking on the premiere episode of their new podcast, Feel the Power, New Day members Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E discussed how their group was compared to ‘90s stable the Nation of Domination when they first formed.

Reflecting on how they came together, Kingston confessed there was a sense of disgruntlement amongst them. He noted, however, that “the difference between us and The Nation was that we weren’t promoting any kind of racial anything.”

Woods added, “I can understand like shades of it because our shade is brown and so people were like, ‘Oh man, it’s The Nation of Domination.’ I was like, ‘You never called The Wyatts The Godwins and that’s like the same thing.’”

“And then I think when people started trying to like label it, we took it upon ourselves to be like, ‘No. You don’t get to tell us what it is. We’re going to make it into whatever we want it to be, you know and kind of like took ownership of it that way,” Kingston added.

PLAN

Woods then explained how the initial idea of the three of them coming together had its origins back when Big E was in developmental. He shared how their idea was a group called PLAN, which stood for the People’s Liberation Of American Nationalism. Back then, the stable would have consisted of Woods, Big E, Byron Saxton and Abe Washington.

“The New Day is kind of an evolved thought of that, but it was essentially people who were not happy with their position in the company and wanted more from themselves and from their job and so that’s when I talked to E about it and we kind of shot a bunch of different things and pre-tapes and kicking back and forth ideas and that’s when it really hit me like ‘none of this is really clicking. None of it is really working.’ I was like, ‘I think we need a third person for this to actually work.’ He was like, ‘Who?’ I was like, ‘I think we need to get Kofi.’”

Kofi would agree to join the two Superstars. He reflected on how he was unhappy at the time and wanted to redirect his career and help Woods and Big E establish themselves on the WWE roster.

The Revival Win SmackDown Tag Team Titles At WWE Clash Of Champions

The New Day are no longer staying on top of the SmackDown Tag Team Division as The Revival has dethroned.

Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson beat Big E and Xavier Woods at the latest WWE show, Clash of Champions pay-per-view event, in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Spectrum Center on the WWE Network.

The New Day (Big E & Xavier Woods) beat Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan beat Heavy Machinery to win the titles at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view event. This show took place in Philadelphia, PA at the Wells Fargo Center.

WWE Clash Of Champions Results (9/15)

This match was set up when The Revival issued a challenge to the champions on SmackDown earlier this month.

At the time of the challenge, The Revival was technically RAW stars but have been making frequent appearances on SmackDown Live as part of their alliance with Randy Orton to feud with Big E, Woods, and WWE Champion.

The New Day will likely get a rematch heading into the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event on Sunday, October 6, 2019 in Sacramento, California at the Golden 1 Center.

Scott Dawson Blames The New Day For Turning WWE’s Tag Division Into An “Embarrassment”

WWE recently announced that New Day members, Xavier Woods and Big E, will be defending their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Revival at Clash of Champions.

Now, The Revival’s Scott Dawson has shared some harsh words aimed directly at their Clash of Champions opponents. As far as he is concerned, the New Day is to blame for turning WWE’s entire tag team division into an “embarrassment.”

Dawson shared his opinion on the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions via Twitter, writing:

“I blame New Day for the embarrassment this whole tag division has turned into. I blame you guys for cheering them on. We make our money in the division they’ve cheapened. It’s time to make a 7 figure dent in my bank account. #TopGuys #FTRKO”

His tag partner, Dash Wilder, also added his two cents, “Good luck, New Day. Break a leg. #FTRKO”

The pair have aligned themselves with “The Viper” Randy Orton on SmackDown Live, creating a formidable new partnership. While The Revival attempt to claim the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, Orton will be facing off against New Day member Kofi Kingston. They will compete for Kingston’s WWE Championship.

Clash of Champions takes place on September 15th from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Kofi Kingston Says He Questioned His Wrestling Future Before Idea About The New Day

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston is making the media rounds to promote the upcoming WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event.

In an interview with the Ottawa Sun, Kingston opened up on where his mindset was at before the creation of The New Day. This is where he admitted that without Xavier Woods and Big E, he wouldn’t be in WWE.

“It’s always fun and laughs. Woods and E, without them I wouldn’t be here. When they approached me about being in the New Day, I didn’t even know if I wanted to keep wrestling because I was doing the same thing over and over.”

Kingston recalled that he was someone who was going out and having good matches with some cool moves but would most likely lose.

He thought it became monotonous. That changed once Big E and Woods approached him with the idea as they weren’t happy with their positions in the company.

Kingston recalled people telling them that they sucked and rejected them but later embraced them. He would add that some people think they are one of the greatest factions of all-time and how they are WWE and SmackDown Tag Team Champions so their mission was accomplished.

Kingston defends the WWE Title against Randy Orton at SummerSlam. As of this writing, Woods and Big E do not have a match booked.

BOOM! Studios Announces WWE: The New Day Graphic Novel

BOOM! Studios has announced that they will be releasing a new graphic novel charting the career journey of The New Day.

Entitled WWE: The New Day, the story will follow the trio from their initial WWE debut through to their stratospheric rise to popularity amongst the WWE Universe.

Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods were originally featured in a BOOM! Studios WWE story in 2016. This new graphic novel, however, will be a much more detailed accounting of their story.

The news was revealed during Comic-Con International in San Diego after WWE Champion Kofi Kingston made a surprise appearance at the ‘BOOM! Studios: Discover Yours’ panel to announce it.

Editor of BOOM! Studios, Chris Rosa, said the following on the upcoming project:

“There are few modern WWE Superstars with a greater legacy than The New Day—and as they’ve shown this year, there’s no ceiling to what Kofi, Xavier and Big E can accomplish.”

He continued, “WWE: The New Day is the first time fans will get an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at their journey to the top of the proverbial mountain and we can’t wait to share more news with fans soon!”

WWE: The New Day will be able for sale, both in comic book stores and digitally, in 2020.

Lars Sullivan Has Reportedly Apologized To The New Day For His Comments

Lars Sullivan has been a hot topic of conversation in the past few days. This is due to a number of overtly incendiary bigoted and racist comments he has made in the past that have recently come to light.

Sullivan has issued a formal apology and an official statement in an attempt to quell the inevitable backlash.

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, it turns out that WWE has been well aware of his bigoted comments for quite some time.

Alvarez also mentioned that Lars Sullivan has also apologized to The New Day:

“He talked to Big E [and] I believe all of the members of The New Day. As I noted yesterday, WWE has been aware of this forever. This was nothing new and he apologized to them for it in the past, and it was considered a dead issue, but it has come up twice in the last six months so this time he did in fact address it with that statement.”

Despite the controversy, Sullivan is currently on the WWE European tour.

There has allegedly been no discussion over culling his main event push due to these comments. Sullivan will most likely continue to be pushed into a main event spot and, eventually, compete for the companies top titles.
