The New Day took part in a recent episode of Drop The Mic that aired Wednesday night on TNT where they battled iconic soul singers SWV in a no holds barred grudge match. The popular rap battle show is hosted by Method Man of Wu Tang.
Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods took the stage to show off their skills. This isn’t the first time that they have grabbed the microphone to battle it out with words in a rap contest.
The former WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions took on The Usos (Jey & Jimmy) back in 2017 during an episode of SmackDown Live that was hosted by hip-hop star Wale.
You can watch the segment from Drop The Mic here, which is pretty entertaining:

As of this writing, WWE has yet to announce a match for The New Day at WrestleMania 35, which is quickly approaching. On Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, Kingston beat Cesaro, Randy Orton and Rowan and Samoa Joe and Sheamus that was supposed to earn him the right to challenge WWE Champion Daniel Bryan for the title at WrestleMania 35.
However, after the match, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon announced that Kofi had to beat Bryan that night to get the title shot. He failed as Bryan won the match.
Kofi Kingston was recently screwed out of an opportunity to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35. This led the team to briefly discuss the idea of quitting — an idea that Kofi quickly nixed.
Big E, however, chose to vent his frustrations. In a video uploaded to Twitter, he sadly states that “people like us will only get so far. […] You can climb the mountain. They’ll let you climb the mountain, but as far as getting to the peak and staying at the peak – it’s not a thing that people like us, historically and moving forward clearly, can only get so far.”
Now Xavier Woods has provided his thoughts on their current situation.
“Its Definitely Showed Me Which Direction I Need To Go In”
Speaking from the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Woods addresses the unfair actions of Vince McMahon from Tuesday night. He also highlights that, like Big E, he needs to do what’s best for him and his family. He’s just not sure WWE fits into that anymore.
“I’m sure you guys saw what happened this past Tuesday to Kofi. You probably watched the video that [Big] E did and he, kind of, said it best, so I’m just gonna echo those sentiments,” he said.
“We have other things that we enjoy doing. We have other skills. Me? I love video games. I’m a part of this community and I love this community with all of my heart, and this community loves me back. That’s a relationship I’m willing to be in.”
“Constantly being treated in the way that we, New Day, has been treated and will most likely be treated from here on out…I just want to say that I appreciate what you did Vince, thank you very much. Because its definitely showed me which direction I need to go in to take care of myself and to take care of my family.”
With the New Day teasing quitting, and both Xavier Woods and Big E uploading videos to their personal accounts to address the unfair situation, this blending of reality and fiction adds a new dynamic to the story as people continue to clamour for Kofi-Mania on April 7th.
Daniel Bryan proved to be too much of an obstacle for Kofi Kingston this past Tuesday on SmackDown Live. After having endured a gruelling gauntlet match against five of SmackDown’s top Superstars, Vince McMahon would then insert “The Planet’s Champion” as a surprise sixth entrant.
It was just too much for an exhausted Kofi who, in losing the gauntlet match, has now lost his opportunity to face Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35.
The New Day regrouped backstage on Tuesday night, with Big E and Xavier Woods discussing quitting WWE — an idea that Kofi shot down.
Big E recently took to his Twitter account to upload a video of his thoughts on the situation. The video covers a lot of ground, with Big E lambasting WWE as he says that The New Day finally “understand the game.”
“If This Is All We Will Ever Be? I Don’t Know If It’s Worth It”
Big E believes that it doesn’t matter how good you are, how much your hone your craft and “jump through all the right hoops,” or how respectful you are as a professional and individual — to him the idea that if “You do everything, you check all the boxes, you show up in shape—you do everything that’s asked of you in this business —that if you do all those things you have a good chance of making it to the top” is a lie.
He goes on to say that “people like us will only get so far. […] You can climb the mountain. They’ll let you climb the mountain, but as far as getting to the peak and staying at the peak – it’s not a thing that people like us, historically and moving forward clearly, can only get so far.”
Clearly deflated from all these challenges being placed in front of his friend’s dreams, Big E would tease the idea of leaving WWE, contemplating whether all this hard work and being away from family for “250 days plus a year is worth it.” He ends the video by stating, |[…] obviously proud of Kofi, proud of us as a trio, proud of what we’ve done, but if this is all we ever be? I don’t know if it’s worth it.”
Kofi Kingston is on a trajectory similar to that of Daniel Bryan’s journey leading into WrestleMania 30. With authority figures doing everything to stop Kofi getting his opportunity, it will be interesting to see how they eventually make Kofi vs Bryan official. One thing is for sure, however: the WWE Universe want Kofi-Mania.
The main event of this week’s episode of SmackDown Live saw Kofi Kingston defeating not one but five back to back opponents in a highly praised gauntlet match.
However, Kofi wasn’t able to earn his spot into WrestleMania even after this as Vince McMahon put him into a final match with Daniel Bryan which he lost.
After the show, WWE posted a backstage video of the trio of Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods talking about possibly quitting the company after the events of the show.
As seen in the video below, both E and Woods were convinced that they should quit but Kofi declined, saying that if they quit now then it will be a win for Daniel Bryan and Mr. McMahon:
What’s Next For Kofi Kingston?
After this week’s episode of the show, it appears that the company is going the same route with the New Day Member as they did with Daniel Bryan before WrestleMania 30.
Daniel was denied a World Heavyweight Championship match against the then champion Randy Orton at the show.
Though he fought his way to a world title victory and the current WWE Champion had to defeat Triple H in a one on one match during the opening bout of WrestleMania to earn his opportunity.
It’s likely that we will see something similar with Kofi. With less than 3 weeks remaining for the show, it’s possible that Kofi Kingston’s fate will be decided on the day of WrestleMania itself.
Kevin Owens returned last night during SmackDown Live. He was introduced by Vince McMahon as Kofi Kingston’s replacement for WWE’s upcoming Fastlane event as a man “more deserving” of the spot than the New Day member.
The WWE Universe made their frustration known via social media after the announcement. This vocal disappointment was shared by fellow New Day members, Xavier Woods and Big E.
Both expressed their clear exasperation with the decision via Twitter, taking umbrage with Vince McMahon’s ruling.
Xavier, whose current Twitter name is #KofiVsBryan, said:
“So what else does @TrueKofi have to do? He’s a multi-time champion. He’s given 11 amazing years to this company. He’s pinned the @wwe champion. Kofi is more than good enough. Kofi is more than worthy. What else do you want from him? WHAT ELSE?”
So what else does @TrueKofi have to do? He’s a multi-time champion. He’s given 11 amazing years to this company. He’s pinned the @wwe champion. Kofi is more than good enough. Kofi is more than worthy. What else do you want from him? WHAT ELSE?
Despite this turn of events, Owens would eventually tag with Kofi Kingston in the main event of SmackDown. The two would defeat “The New” Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan after Owens hit a Stunner for the victory.
With WrestleMania edging ever closer, are WWE saving Kofi for a high profile title win? Could he finally do it on the “Grandest Stage Of Them All”?
WWE Superstar Kofi Kingston recently spoke to the The Canton Repository. The New Day member stated that the group worked so well due to their incredible chemistry. Kofi stated that he has not argued with Big E or Xavier Woods since their formation nearly 5 years ago.
“The stars aligned, and our chemistry is unbelievable. When we go out there, we’re having genuine fun. We’re not just characters going out there acting like it; it’s actual fun we’re having, and people feel that energy and want to be a part of it,” Kofi commented. “We’ve been traveling together for almost five years now, and we’ve never gotten into a fight ever. We all have the same interests and same hobbies, and we all want to be the best and at the forefront of sports entertainment in WWE. We’re fortunate to be in that position.”
Kofi also discussed what Vince McMahon thought of the group and their original positive preacher gimmick. Kingston also described what vision the WWE Chairman had for the three Superstars. “From the very inception of New Day, we told Vince McMahon no matter what he gave us we would be able to make it work, because we believe in the chemistry we had,” Kofi stated. “Going back and forth with Vince, we had a very different idea of what we wanted it to be. The idea he came back with, we said, ‘OK, he’s really gonna test us on this guarantee we gave him of making anything he gave us work.’ But we just kept doing it, and we evoked a lot of emotion from people, and really, that was what it was all about. Eventually, we kind of got to do what we first wanted, and over time it turned into what it is now.”
The New Day wasn’t always the fun-loving group they are today. Over time, the New Day members were able to add their own inflection onto their WWE characters, eventually turning into the trio known and loved today, becoming a group that may just be around forever.
That’s not to say, however, that New Day has always been popular amongst the WWE Universe.
New Day member, Xavier Woods, recently sat down with Corridor Cast. They spoke about a time when the group were starting to get booed, receiving ‘New Day Sucks’ chants. Wishing to lean into that momentum, Woods wanted to turn the group heel. Vince McMahon, however, didn’t believe that would work — primarily because of long-time babyface, Kofi Kingston.
Xavier would then make a unique bet with Vince: if he couldn’t get Kofi booed in four weeks, he would relinquish his place within the New Day.
“If I Can’t Make Good On This, Then I Don’t Deserve To Be Here”
“When they let us make the group, we were good guys. For the industry terms, we were babyfaces, and we thought we should be bad guys, heels, and after a while, some things happened and people were chanting, ‘New Day sucks,’ and it’s like, ‘Ok, yes, cool. They’ll let us turn a corner and we can be bad guys now,’ and they thought that since Kofi had been a babyface for so long that they wouldn’t boo him, and so, to me, I was like, ‘No, we’re in control of that. I guarantee you…’”
He continued, “I went to Vince McMahon and I was like, ‘If you give us — if you give me a microphone four weeks in a row, I guarantee you that they’ll boo Kofi Kingston, and he was like, ‘You really believe in this that much?’ I said, ‘Yes, I believe that I can do it’, and he goes, ‘Four weeks? And if you don’t do it in four weeks then what happens?’”
Woods’ response?
“I said if I don’t do it in four weeks, you’ve got 60 dudes in developmental that deserve this spot more than I do. [Vince responded with], ‘I can send you home? Get ready,’ and I said, ‘You should if I can’t do it. If I can’t make good on this, then I don’t deserve to be here,’ and he’s like, ‘Alright.’”
Thankfully, his gamble paid off as The New Day would eventually turn heel before establishing themselves as one of the top babyface groups in the company.
Despite rumors circling them regarding a potential breakup, WWE superstar and New Day member, Xavier Woods, believes that separating the trio wouldn’t benefit anybody.
Suffering an initial rocky start when the group first debuted, the New Day has since transitioned away from the initial gimmick that mired the members, embracing the pancake tossing, bright attire wearing, fun loving attitudes that they have proudly maintained for the past few years.
Speaking with The Post and Courier, Xavier Woods addressed why he believes it benefits the New Day to stay together “forever.”
“[…] it’s the best career move for all three of us [to stay together]. New Day’s staying together forever,” Woods proclaimed. “In the easiest terms, it’s the most fun option for us. Obviously, Kofi was killing it already. E was doing well. I wasn’t really doing much. The group has helped me become more recognized and things like that. But you also think about the things that Kofi and me were doing. [We’ve] gotten way more opportunities as well because of being part of the group.”
Woods reflected that, as a group, they’ve managed to stay relevant and on people’s screens, microphones in hand in order to entertain the WWE Universe, referring to promo time as “possibly the most important thing in the company.”
“[Being in New Day has] helped us with opportunities to have amazing matches with other teams that are just as amazing. So when you get to have a Hell in a Cell match, none of us had ever been in that position before. By having this group effort and being able to attack this as a group, we’ve been able to do a lot more than if we were just doing this alone.”
What do you think? Should New Day stay together forever?
WWE has announced a rather fun skit for tomorrow on their YouTube channel. A live stream of SmackDown Live Tag Teams The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods) and The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) will be held.
With Christmas right around the corner, WWE will be having the pair exchanges gifs live on YouTube in front of the entire WWE Universe. The IIconics and The New Day have worked together before on Woods’ UpUpDownDown YouTube gaming channel.
It will be interesting to see what WWE has in store for their gift exchange. The festivities will commence at noon Eastern Time tomorrow.
Rousey Shops For A Christmas Tree (Video)
WWE Monday Night RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey recently went shopping for a Christmas tree. She posted her journey on her own YouTube channel. Rousey, along with her husband and UFC heavyweight fighter Travis Browne, attempt to find the best Christmas tree for their ranch, “Browsey Acres.”

Not only did Samoa Joe made Jeff Hardy lose his match against Randy Orton last week, he made a “public service announcement” on the dangers of drinking in excess, mocking Hardy’s addiction problems.
The Charismatic Enigma will address Samoa Joe’s public service announcement in response tonight on SmackDown.
Naomi goes one-on-one with Mandy Rose
Naomi and Mandy Rose will see each other in the ring tonight after their war of words on Twitter. The two went on about each other on the website when SmackDown General Manager Paige had to get involved and set an official match between the two.

Current SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The New Day are arguably the best trio in professional wrestling today. The squad consisting of Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods have proven dominant over the past several years. The New Day have faced the best tag teams WWE has to offer.
However, there’s one team that sits above all that the three men have yet to share the ring with. That team being New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor’s The Elite (The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega). The two teams had a run-in with one another at E3 earlier this year. Their chemistry as entertainers got fans excited about a possible professional wrestling program.
New Day member Kofi Kingston spoke about this on a recent media call to promote tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live. Here’s what he had to say:
“It would be The Elite. It would be The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. I think it’s something that from the moment we came out, people were like, ‘Oh, is this going to happen? I mean, The Young Bucks and Kenny, and The New Day, there are three of you’.
“They are so talented, and they’ve been able to do so many cool things all over the world, especially in Japan, which are… the way they’ve been able to do those cool things. I think it’s kind of a fantasy match-up that people have been waiting with bated breath to see.
“But, you never know what’s going to happen in the WWE. Never say never, and I hope that it does happen at some point in time, but I guess we will have to wait and find out.”
What do you think about a potential New Day vs. Elite match?
For several years now the team of Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston have been going strong in WWE. Usually a faction will split up after a good run of several years – if not shorter. Woods recently addressed this in an interview with GiveMeSport.
Woods said that he has no intentions of coming to work and not working with his friends. While he knows some fans might think he’s saying this because it’s going to happen – Woods shut that down as well.
He seemingly went out of character, saying he’s speaking as Austin Watson now (his real name). He proclaimed that what he’s saying is the truth, and The New Day are not breaking up:
“I don’t remember a group in wrestling that hasn’t turned on itself, or they’ll turn, then come back and be a group again. New Day – I’m telling you this right now – New Day will never turn. Ever. And that’s because we have zero desire to ever do that. I have zero desire to go to work and not work with my friends.”
“People say on Twitter, ‘New Day is doing this, Big E is going to turn, this is happening. Oh, Woods is the snarky one, he’s going to turn. Oh, Kofi’s been up at the top of the mountain before, he’s gonna turn!. It’s like, why? We are having the most fun we’ve ever had in our careers.
“It’s not like someone’s like, ‘Oh, I need to sabotage my friends to be champ.’ What is it to be champ when you’re a champ by yourself? You’re standing up there alone on this cold mountainous castle? That’s not fun. I’d rather be up there with my friends.
“Especially, if Kofi wins the Heavyweight Title, I’m also the Heavyweight Champion because we have ‘The New Day Rule’ and we share it. Just basic mathematics, we have a better chance of becoming Heavyweight Champion if we stay a group and we just share it.”
“So, there’s your answer, internet. We will all retire before we turn. That’s a legitimate answer, this is not some, ‘Oh! He’s saying this because it’s happening!’ No, my government name is Austin Watson. Austin Watson is telling you that is the truth. Thank you.”
Discussion: What do you make of Woods’ comments? Do you think The New Day will split soon? Sound off in the comments section!
Here's a snippet of my chat with @XavierWoodsPhD at #insomnia63 and he addresses the internet's speculation on when the New Day will break up and which member of the group will turn on the group first. @TrueKofi? @WWEBigE? Himself? Just watch. #WWEpic.twitter.com/LK8lTWRR5B
With Rowan being out of action for the foreseeable future, the Bludgeon Brothers are not very likely to cash in their rematch clause for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against New Day anytime soon.
So General Manager Paige had to come up with an idea to determine the next challengers for the now 5 Times Tag Team Champions, and she decided to do another mini-tournament.
Paige announced in a video posted on her twitter account recently that they will be holding two triple threat tag team matches on the upcoming episodes of SmackDown Live.
The winner of these triple threats will go on to face each other in a regular tag match and whoever wins that, will earn the right to challenge the New Day for their title at the upcoming Hell In A Cell PPV:
The first triple threat that is expected to take place on this week’s episode of the show will see The Bar Sheamus & Cesaro battling against The Colons, Primo & Epico, and The Club Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson.
It’s worth mentioning here that this appears to be the Colons’ first on screen tag team match together since Primo suffered a knee injury and was put on the shelf back in June last year.
The participants for the second triple threat of this mini-tournament have not been revealed yet, but the company is most likely to announce it on the Blue Branded show this week.
With more than 1.6 million subscribers worldwide, Xavier Woods (real name: Austin Watson) has been presented with a certificate recognising his popular YouTube channel, UpUpDownDown, as the most subscribed to celebrity video games channel on YouTube by Guinness World Records.
He received the honour at the Insomnia Gaming Festival in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Woods started his YouTube endeavour in 2015, attempting to use the platform as a way to cross boundaries and connect with his fanbase.
Originally showcasing himself playing video games with different superstars, it allowed fans to see superstars out of character, and enjoy a peek behind the curtain of their lives.
UpUpDownDown has since expanded, allowing other superstars an opportunity to engage with their love of video games, providing a now established platform to share their passion, such as AJ Styles’ new series, Retro Styles.
When The New Day first formed back in 2014, the group wasn’t exactly met with open arms from the WWE faithful. Largely billed as a heel faction, The New Day struggled to gain a foothold with audiences but the talent possessed by the three members — ‘Big’ E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods — was undeniable.
While ‘Big’ E had tasted some success as a singles wrestler while previously holding the Intercontinental title, Kingston was by far the most established superstar of the group after a long run as one of the WWE’s top performers.
It turns out when The New Day first came together, The Big Show actually pulled Kingston aside and told him that he’d be better off without ‘Big’ E and Woods because he deserved to be competing for world titles, not mired in a three-man faction.
“So ‘Big Show’ when we were trying to get off the ground, ‘Big Show’ would pull Kofi to the side — like legit pull him [nearby] so we’re within earshot — and say ‘what are you doing with those two? They’re bringing you down. You should be in the world title picture’,” ‘Big’ E revealed when speaking to “Open Late” with Peter Rosenberg. “And this is [not] at a time when it’s ‘oh ‘Big Show’ it’s all fun and games’.
“We’re struggling to get on TV, me and [Xavier] Woods, thinking we’re about to get fired.”
Woods added that Big Show never tried to hide his contempt for the New Day when having conversations with Kingston backstage.
“He was legit concerned for me” ~ Kofi Kingston on The Big Show’s advice
“I had been on the road three months doing nothing,” Woods said. “So I had just come up from developmental like ‘oh everything is so shiny and new, I’m so happy to be here guys’ and then he’s just taking a dump on me like to my face.”
Kingston says Big Show wasn’t trying to be ill willed towards ‘Big’ E or Woods but rather was showing concern about his own individual future in WWE.
“I don’t think he cared that they were there at all,” Kingston said. “He was legit concerned for me.”
Obviously, The New Day stuck around past a rocky beginning and they are now one of the most marketable teams in all of WWE following multiple reigns as tag team champions. The New Day sell a ton of merchandise and are a massive hit amongst the WWE fanbase.
As it turns out, Woods says out of everyone who has ever talked bad about The New Day, Big Show was on the one superstar who came back around and apologized for what he had said previously.
“To his credit, for all the people who didn’t say things to our face, said things behind our back, he’s the one person who came up to us and said ‘I was completely wrong, you guys are awesome and you’re killing it and I’m glad that you didn’t listen to me’,” Woods stated. “He’s the only one.”
WWE recently posted the following video of John Cena from their Twitter account, in which the Cenation Leader teased a new move for the upcoming WWE Super Show Down from Australia, calling it his ‘secret weapon’ :
This is not the first time the former World Champion has teased a new move and as we noted before, he previously revealed that he will be debuting a ‘6th move of doom’ during the WWE Live Event from China on September 1st.
Cena was originally scheduled to face Kevin Owens in a one on one match at the upcoming Super Show Down event but the company has now converted the bout in a tag match, adding Bobby Lashley and Elias to the fight.
The New Day Talks Championship Victory On SmackDown
The main event of this week’s episode of SmackDown Live saw the New Day defeating the Bludgeon Brothers in a No Disqualification match to win the SmackDown Tag Team titles.
After the show, the trio was interviewed backstage where they talked about their championship victory during the episode and said that they will go into the history as one of the greatest factions in WWE:
As noted before Erick Rowan of the Bludgeon Brothers suffered a triceps injury during the SummerSlam PPV and this is believed to be the reason why they dropped the title to the New Day.
There are new tag team champions on the SmackDown Live brand. As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center on the USA Network, The New Day beat The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan) to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.
This was a rematch as The New Day was able to beat The Bludgeon Brothers in a SmackDown Tag Team Title match by DQ once Rowan hit the challengers with a mallet hammer at Sunday’s (August 19, 2018) WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event.
There is speculation that the reason for this title change is due to Rowan suffering an injury in that match at SummerSlam and undergoing surgery this week.
Harper and Rowan won the titles from The Usos at WrestleMania 34 on April 8 in New Orleans, LA where they would hold the titles for 135 days. WWE will have to decide on the challengers that will take on The New Day for the titles at the upcoming Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event that takes place on Sunday, September 16th from San Antonio.
New Day reacts to their SmackDown Tag Team Championship win:
This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw Paul Heyman being interviewed by Renee Young backstage where Heyman said that Roman Reigns doesn’t stand a chance against Brock Lesnar.
However, the company later posted an extended cut of the video from their YouTube account. In the video as seen below, Heyman says the same line but extends his comments by saying ‘unless’ before leaving:
What does this mean for the upcoming Universal Championship bout is yet to be seen but Paul Heyman’s comment is sure to start some speculation about Lesnar and the SummerSlam main event.
The New Day Celebrates With AJ Styles
The main event of this week’s episode of SmackDown Live saw The New Day defeating Sheamus and Cesaro ‘The Bar’ in the finals of the Tag Team tournament in a highly praised match.
This victory earned the trio the right to challenge Bludgeon Brothers for their SmackDown Tag Team Championships at the upcoming SummerSlam PPV.
After the episode got over, WWE posted the following video where the New Day is seen celebrating their victory on the show with the WWE Champion AJ Styles:
SummerSlam will take place on August 19, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York
It was a good tune-up match before Rousey challenges Bliss for the RAW Women’s Title at SummerSlam later this month. The pay-per-view (PPV) goes down from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on August 19th.
Shortly after her victory over Fox, Rousey took to Instagram and issued a stern warning to her SummerSlam opponent, Bliss. Here’s what she had to say:
“You should dread every second of experience I get in that ring.
Consider what you saw last night merciful compared to what’s coming to you August 19th”
Xavier Woods Invites Tyler Breeze To Join The New Day
Last night was pretty embarrassing for Tyler Breeze. One-half of Breezango, Fandango, has been sidelined for the next several months with an injury. This leaves Breeze to fend for himself on RAW as a singles talent.
During last night’s episode of RAW, Breeze had a segment with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns backstage. Breeze was denied a fist bump by the former Shield members:
SmackDown Live star and New Day member Xavier Woods offered a response on Twitter. He noted that Breeze could come over to SmackDown Live and join The New Day until Fandango is ready to return:
It's ok Breezy, come on over to #SmackdownLive and you can be in The New Day till Dango heals up ? we will appreciate you over on blue! https://t.co/LMzfJwP0IE
We noted before how this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw did its best numbers in almost a month and a half and the SmackDown episode only continued this momentum.
The audience for SmackDown this week was up for the fourth straight week and it was the best number for the show since its May 1st episode about 3 months ago.
The episode featuring Charlotte vs. Carmella in the main event drew a total of 2.401 million viewers which was up 2.6% from last week’s 2.340 million viewers.
It was also #1 in the 18-49 demographic this week. Though unlike Raw which ranked #1 in the cable viewership, the Blue Branded Show ranked #5.
New Day On Commentary
The New Day is without a doubt one of the funniest acts in all of WWE and there aren’t a lot of people who can match the sense of humor and comical timing of the trio.
The three showed another example of their comic sense during this week’s episode of SmackDown where they were doing commentary for the Usos vs. The Bar match.
The result of it is the following hilarious video which WWE posted on their YouTube account, featuring some of their best reactions throughout the bout:
The first match in the tournament to crown new #1 contender’s for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles has been booked.
It was announced over the weekend by SmackDown General Manager Paige that SAnitY, The New Day, The Bar, and The Usos will be part of the tournament. The winners of this tournament will challenge Luke Harper and Erick Rowan for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event that is slated to go down on Sunday, August 19, 2018 in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center that will air on the WWE Network.
On Monday afternoon, Paige revealed the first match for the tournament that will take place this week on SmackDown Live, which is New Day vs. SAnitY. She posted the following video on her official Twitter account:
WWE is in Evansville, IN at the Ford Center for this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.
The company has already announced a match and segment for the show that includes WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella vs. Becky Lynch in a non-title match with the stipulation that if Lynch wins then she gets a title shot at SummerSlam. Also, Paige will reveal who AJ Styles will defend the WWE Title against at SummerSlam.
What are your thoughts on this first tag team tournament match? Sound off in the comment section.
The New Day have been dominating the tag team divisions of WWE for several years now, and it looks like WWE has decided to change things up a bit. Cageside Seats reports that The New Day is set to move out of the tag team division for a while to work as a stable of singles competitors.
Big E is expected to get the biggest push of the three.
Hulk Hogan Wants To Manage Velveteen Dream
Velveteen Dream had a lot of people talking on social media when everyone saw his NXT TakeOver: Chicago in-ring attire. It seemed to be a mixture of Hulk Hogan and Prince Puma of Lucha Underground.
Hogan took to Twitter himself and noted that he’d like to manage Dream, and pitched an “all the gold,HollyWood style” idea as well. Here’s what the WWE Hall Of Famer had to say:
Yo when VelveteenMania hires me as his manager, then we will have “all the gold,HollyWood style”. Brother. HollyWoodHHoganLife
The Undertaker joined social media a few weeks ago, launching an Instagram account. Many begun to wonder whether or not it was real. Since its launched, Undertaker’s wife, Michelle McCool has tagged the account in a few photos, and several WWE stars follow the account as well.
McCool finally took to her own Instagram account to confirm that the account is in fact Undertaker’s and it’s his only account:
“YES, y’all….THIS is official! My man @undertaker is officially on IG & this is his ONLY account! Sit back & enjoy the ride…..#myheart #hubs”
