The New Day’s Xavier Woods recently did an interview with Newsday to promote WWE’s recently released book entitled “The Book of Booty: Shake It. Love It. Never Be It.” In recent weeks The New Day has grown an infatuation with pancakes as they hand them out to fans at ringside during their entrance.
There has been some criticism that their pancake affiliation is a racial stereotype. Woods took the opportunity to shoot that down, saying it instead had to do with a Lumberjack Match they were in late last year:
“I said, ‘Well, if I’m a lumberjack, what do they eat? They eat flapjacks.’ It was hilarious. So, we said the next week, ‘Are we going to do pancakes? Yeah, sure. Why not?’ And that’s where the pancakes came from,” Woods said.
“If there’s ever any source of contention or anything like that, I think that it’s a situation where you should take a look at yourself and think about how deep you are looking into something that’s not really there.”
Woods also pointed out the he and his partners, Big E and Kofi Kingston, are “very aware of how we present ourselves,” but doesn’t want to have to suppress their witty personalities due to being under a racial lens “simply because we are African-American males.”:
“All we want is a blank slate,” Woods said. “And if people continue to refuse to give us one, then they’re doing nothing more than continuing to hold up the social constructs that we’re trying to break down.”

– A new episode of WWE 24 airs this Monday after Raw on the WWE Network and it gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match. Here is the synopsis:
“Female Superstars are redefining sports entertainment with groundbreaking matches and the addition of Ronda Rousey to a star-studded roster.”
WWE has released a teaser clip of Dana Brooke honoring her late bodybuilder boyfriend, Dallas McCarver, who died suddenly on August 22, 2017.
Last March, Brooke and McCarver both competed in the 2017 Arnold Classic. To honor McCarver, she incorporated a small piece of McCarver’s posing trunks from the event by having it stitched onto her ring gear for the Women’s Royal Rumble Match. She had WWE seamstress Terry Anderson make the piece look like a dumbbell and have it placed over her heart.
On her tribute, she tweeted the following:
???? I am forever grateful 4 my angel @DallasMcCarver my heart aches daily but reminding myself he is always w/ me makes me stronger! PLEASE TUNE IN! @WWENetwork@WWE I thank u for allowing me to share this! I am forever thankful https://t.co/CJDRcFtlGa
According to Medium.com, an autopsy determined that McCarver died after an unwitnessed cardiac event contributed to by of combination of coronary atherosclerosis (a buildup of plaque in the arteries) and an enlarged left ventricle (a thickening of the heart muscle that causes it to work harder). McCarver had a family history of cardiovascular disease including both hypertension and atherosclerosis.

One-half of the SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions, The Usos, Jimmy Uso recently did an interview with The Mirror. Below are some of the highlights:
Lots has been said about the reinvention of the Usos, a transformation that began in late 2016. It feels like you’ve perfected the entire package – your look, theme music, ring work and promos. It’s all come together. How much input do you have in that process, like adopting new ring gear or selecting a new entrance song?
“That’s all us. I mean it, when you see this whole reinvention, that is every bit of me and my brother. It’s so funny because the ring work has never changed. That’s always been there. Our gear, literally, we wear that outside of the ring. That’s how I dress. Even with the baseball cap, I’m always having a cap on. And I just felt it was me to wear a cap out there. It’s little stuff like that to make us, us. That’s what that was. That’s how people found out we were real and they followed that and they could adapt to that. Everything is us, from the gear to the black and white, baseball caps to the shoes – I wore those same shoes I do when I’m wrestling – I wore them at high school. I wore those same shoes in high school. So when I’m telling you that’s the Usos, that’s the Usos.
“As far as our ring music, we was dying to go and hop on that track. We heard John Cena on his entrance music, I remember The Rock being on his entrance music, I just thought that was really cool and added a whole lot more personality to them, personally. So what you see out there, that’s 100% The Usos.”
Your feud with the New Day last year was fantastic. At Fastlane we get to see you go at it again, in what could perhaps become a triple threat, with Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin. What do you think Gable and Benjamin bring to the table and how excited are you to get to renew this feud with The New Day and freshen it up ahead of WrestleMania?
“I don’t know man, to me I feel like that’s something you got to ask Shelton and Gable. Ha ha. I know what we’re bringing to the table. These other tag teams have got to bring everything they’ve got to table to get on our level. The New Day, that feud right there – classic. Classic man. There was a rap battle in there and I ain’t never seen a rap battle done that way in the WWE. Yeah I’ve seen John Cena spit a couple of freestyles to Kurt Angle and stuff like that, you remember when he was the Doctor Of Thuganomics? But I ain’t never seen a rap battle like that though. I just thought that was fun man.
“Shelton and Gable, they are a real technical tag team, but they are new together so they still got a whole lot to learn about each other. But Gable is lucky he has Shelton in his corner, because Shelton was a mentor of mine before I started – he trained me at Booker T’s school [in Houston, Texas]. Gable is in good hands, I can vouch for that. I’m actually anxious to see what happens to Shelton and Gable man because that tag team right there, is the tag team to look out for, definitely.”

NJPW star Kenny Omega spoke with Sports Illustrated for this week’s Week In Wrestling feature and had strong praise for WWE Superstar The New Day.
In speaking with Justin Barrasso, Omega said he keeps up with WWE television and sees The New Day as having the “total package” of athleticism, in-ring ability and charisma.
“They’re three of my favorite guys in the entire company,” said Omega. “They clearly know how to entertain, and they’re all great athletes.”
NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom event earlier this month featured WWE legend (and free agent) Chris Jericho crossing over to battle Omega in match most fans never expected to see. Omega has been outspoken about wanting to find a way to work with WWE to make a match happen between The Elite and The New Day.
Despite New Day’s success, their act has not evolved a lot in recent years. When asked if WWE has them boxed into a certain role, Omega was quick to prop them all up.
“When I see Big E, I clearly see someone who could be world champion,” said Omega. “The guy is on another level. Kofi is one of those guys who is good in all situations and can challenge for all titles, and Xavier is another great athlete who is talented in the ring and confident on the mic.”
Having such a high opinion of the New Day, Omega says he’s seen their stagnation as an indication of what might be in store for him if he ever joined WWE.
“It’s things like that that really make me think twice about what I would be getting into if eventually I do go there,” said Omega.

– If you were watching SmackDown Live last night you probably noticed that three of the company’s biggest stars were missing – The New Day! Stephanie McMahon Tweeted out the following pictures; revealing that she, Triple H, The New Day, Mark Henry, The Miz, Maryse, and WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels were in California for the Television Critics Association Winter Tour event:
– Sasha Banks’ hair ended up for sale on Ebay after a fan purchased a Conor’s Cure shirt she wore and found two strands of purple hair on it. The fan said that after discovering the hairs he decided to put them up for sale on Ebay and ended up getting $39.99. Here’s the description of the item and the posting can be found at this link:
“*This auction is for the Sasha Banks 2 hair strands only, does not include signed tshirt these hair pieces were found enbedded in.
“This auction includes two stands of purple hair from WWE superstar Sasha Banks. I found these strands weaved into the connors cure tshirt I purchased on WWE auction. I pulled them out and placed in a bag. These are from the 9/18/17 Raw episode when Sasha comes out to block Alexa Bliss from leaving the match against Nia Jacks.
“This auction is for the hair strands only, not the signed ring worn tshirt.
“I promise all pieces were pulled from shirt after inspection upon opening. I assure the strands belonged to Sasha Banks on raw 9/18 when she worn this shirt which can be proven by watching or viewing the authenticity of the ring worn tshirt by WWE.
“Any questions feel free to ask. ”
– Big E posted a video of himself and his fellow New Day members trying to recruit “Ms. Money In The Bank” Carmella for the Mixed Match Challenge. The trio ordered a referee over to Carmella to deliver some pancakes that read “Will you be our partner?” Carmella was flattered by the gesture but noted that it’s up to the WWE Universe to vote on the teams for the tournament:
Tonight’s WWE SmackDown in Charlotte, NC, which was the final show before Sunday’s WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view, saw the RAW roster finally get revenge on the SmackDown roster for the recent “Under Siege” attacks.
The big brawl started when The Shield interfered in the SmackDown main event, which saw The New Day take on Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. This led to Team Captain Kurt Angle, Braun Strowman, RAW Tag Team Champions The Bar and other red brand Superstars destroying blue brand Superstars, including Team Captain Shane McMahon. SmackDown went off the air with Team RAW standing tall while Team SmackDown struggled to recover.
You can check out the current Survivor Series card for Sunday at this link.

Unicorns? vs. Hounds ?. One is magical and brings happiness to all. The other drinks out of the toilet and eats it's own excrement. We'll totally fight you, we just ask that you don't breathe in our general direction ?
– After losing the WWE Championship to AJ Styles during last night’s SmackDown Live, Jinder Mahal attacked one of the Singh Brothers in frustration. Below is a fan-made video of Mahal throwing one of the Singh Brothers into the barricades:
– Below is a video of The New Day celebrating Kofi Kingston’s victory over Sami Zayn during last night’s episode of SmackDown Live. In the video, the trio also mocked Raw roster for making them look foolish during the main event of this week’s episode of the Red-Branded Show:
It’s worth mentioning here that according to a report, the New Day will be working with the Raw Brand for the remainder of the UK Tour and they are expected to appear on Raw again in near future.
SmackDown Live stars The New Day will be working on the RAW brand for the remainder of the ongoing UK Tour, according to a report at PWInsider.
For those who missed it, New Day made a surprise appearance at the conclusion of Monday’s RAW and interfered in the tag title main event, allowing Cesaro and Sheamus to capture the gold from Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.
The Bar will now face The Usos at Survivor Series in an inter-brand Champions vs. Champions match.
With Roman Reigns expected back on WWE television next week, the stage is set for The Shield vs. New Day at Survivor Series.
Of course, this match occurring depends on Roman Reigns’ health by next week and whether or not he’s medically cleared to return to active competition.
It’s a known fact that WWE likes to decide everything that is going to be done or said on TV in advance and in most cases, all the promos cut by the stars on the Live Television are pre-approved.
Though it appears that the current SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The New Day are an exception to this rule and according to them they have the freedom to choose their lines on TV.
During a recent interview with William Mullally, the trio was answering a question about having creative control over their character and during it Kofi Kingston claimed that they have the freedom to say what they want to say as long as it hits:
“A lot of times, when we are given stuff to say, we just say what we want to say. As long as it hits… that is all Vince cares about. Even when he doesn’t agree with what we want to say, he looks at the crowd, sees everyone having a good time and trusts that we’re able to deliver.”
Though later Big E explained Kofi’s comments saying that this wasn’t always the case and they have worked hard for years to gain such trust. The full interview of the Tag Champs can be seen below, the above mentioned comments start at the 6:25 mark:
As we noted before, Mr McMahon returned to SmackDown Live this week and announced that Kevin Owens will face Shane McMahon in a Hell In A Cell match at the upcoming PPV of the same name.
Though now it appears that it won’t be the only match taking place inside the infamous steel structure at the upcoming SmackDown exclusive PPV.
According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE is planning another Hell In a Cell match between The New Day and The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
It’s worth noting here that there is no mention of the WWE Championship match taking place inside the Steel Structure on the official page for the Hell In A Cell PPV on WWE.com and it’s speculated that the match will not be contested inside the cage.
So if WWE does plan to make the Tag Title Match a Hell In A Cell bout, it would be the second match to take place inside the Cell at the next SmackDown PPV.
Considering the performance of both these teams in their last few encounters, it looks to be the right choice to have their next match take place inside the unforgiving steel structure.
It was surprising for many to see The New Day lose the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships to the Usos at SummerSlam considering that the trio only won the titles a few weeks ago at the Battleground PPV.
However, if some recent reports are to be believed their loss at the PPV is a part of a big and long term plan WWE has for the now former Tag Team Champions.
According to report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Wrestlinginc) WWE wants to establish the team of Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods as the “greatest tag team of all-time” and for this, the officials plan for the trio to hold the Tag Titles for more times than any other team in the history of the company.
The current record is held by The Dudley Boyz who have had a total of 10 Tag Team title reigns in the company and Meltzer speculates that the New Day’s loss was an effort to put the team a step closer to this record.
Although it’s worth mentioning here that including their recent run, the former Champions have held the Tag Team titles for a total of 3 times, so if the company wants them to break the record, then they have a long road ahead of them.
The WWE’s SummerSlam pre-show will kick off at 5pm EST on August 20th with a panel of Renee Young, Peter Rosenberg, David Otunga, and WWE Hall of Famers Lita and Jerry “The King” Lawler; with the pay-per-view (PPV) kicking off at 7pm EST.
Per a report from PWInsider, original plans had The Hardy Boyz taking on The Revival on the Kickoff Pre-Show, however, due to the recent bicep injury suffered by Scott Dawson that is likely to change. It is now believed that The Hardys will take on Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson instead, but that has yet to be announced.
The idea has also been tossed around of adding another Tag Team match-up to the Kickoff Pre-Show, that bout being The New Day vs. The Usos for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships.
The rap battle between The New Day and The Usos on Tuesday’s SmackDown Live turned out to be more entertaining than most fans were expecting. Guest judge Wale is also getting rave reviews for his appearance and his sweet nWo Wolfpac t-shirt.
The most noteworthy line of the rap battle came when The Usos told New Day, “Let’s just keep it PG, you know what’s good… don’t get all Rated R like ya boy Xavier Woods.” The audience reacted in a big way to the apparent reference to Xavier Woods’ cameo in a certain NOT-PG home movie featuring two other WWE personalities.
It appears the line about Xavier Woods was unscripted, since WWE censored it from the video posted on the company’s official YouTube page. It will be interesting to see if the line is also edited from this week’s Hulu broadcast.
The Usos and Wale had this interaction on Twitter late Tuesday night:
We all know that LaMelo Ball dropped a few ‘N-bombs’ during his appearance on Monday Night RAW alongside brother Lonzo and father LaVar, however, this is definitely not the first time we’ve heard the word on WWE programing. One of the most famous instances involved WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T, who cut a promo on Hulk Hogan backstage before accidentally saying “Hulk Hogan! We coming for you n****”.
During last week’s episode of SmackDown Live, The New Day decided to parody this with Big E saying “Listen up and put this flava in your ear. We want that gold sucka and at Battleground, we comin’ for you…” – right before getting cut off by Xavier Woods. Booker T took to his podcast, Heated Conversations, and expressed his displeasure for The New Day’s segment:
“I just want to make it publicly known that I don’t condone that at all especially coming off of Monday Night. We as a people, we gotta know when it’s time to speak up and when it’s time to shut up. My mother taught me that a long time ago. If you don’t know, it’ll come back and haunt you. [The WCW promo blooper] has haunted me for this many years. You put yourself in a situation for something to happen, just like Mike Tyson did, something can happen. For these young kids to understand and realize and be able to speak up for themselves…you know…then again, I spoke up because I was talent.
“I spoke up because I knew that I could speak up. I implore these young people out there to know exactly what they’re doing and how they are affecting our young people that are coming up. That’s the most important thing as far as I’m concerned. Me personally, I know I’ve made mistakes. That word that I said on national television in front of the world – I wish I could go back and erase it. I wish that I could take it back. I wish that WWE would never do something like that ever again.”
“Me personally, I don’t appreciate it. I don’t know if [WWE] knew that the parody was gonna go down because I know those guys do a lot of their own stuff. I don’t think that we as a company need to go that route. I think that parody should not have ever been shown on television because it wasn’t a great moment for us as black people. For us as black people, it was one of our worst moments. Just like the [Lamelo] Ball thing. The kid is 15-years old [and] I don’t blame him or anything like that. It was something that slipped out just like myself [in 1997], it was something that slipped out. For me as a person that’s trying to set an example for us as black people and for me to let so many people down – even the ones that thought it was the cool – even the ones that thought it was an anthem…
“…I want them to know that it was my worst day that I could have ever had being a black man and letting so many of our people down by calling us that word or saying that word in any realm [or] any form was definitely not right by any means. I wish I could take it right back. That one blemish is the only thing they have over my head that they could put out there to try to make me look bad in any way shape, form, or fashion. Of course, I could put a spin on it… … but does that make it right? No, it doesn’t make it right. It’s still a stain, a blemish, a mark that no surgical procedure could ever repair. So I just want young people to know exactly what they’re saying and when they’re saying it.”
Big E and Kofi Kingston were recently in India for a promotional tour and got the opportunity to speak to NDTV Gadgets 360 on a variety of professional wrestling topics. You can check out some of what they had to say here:
If they have creative freedom in WWE:
“We have a long leash for sure. That’s taken time to get trust from the higher ups and people of importance. But yeah, we don’t write everything. A lot of times we’re given scripts and we disagree with the script’s directions and we have some leniency to retool. A lot of times it’s ‘hey we need an overhaul and none of it works’ and sometimes it’s just a few tweaks here and there.
“We’ve been very fortunate. A lot of talent really don’t have that ability to just say ‘hey I want to rewrite this promo’ but it’s really helped us. And one thing we’ve noticed too is that as much as we – as a company – try to attach ourselves to pop culture, we felt also that a lot times they were a little outdated or a little bit, outside of their window of freshness.”
How social media influences their work:
“We’re on Twitter, we’re on Instagram, we like viral videos. It’s something we felt was needed in WWE. Something that was contemporary, something that was just hot on Instagram or Twitter or when Vine was still a thing, we wanted to implement that stuff immediately. Cause that’s the stuff we were just in the car buzzing over that made us laugh so why not use that the next day? I still vividly remember the hubbub over the Steph Curry shoes happened and when we talked in the car I think, it was a day later and we were in New Orleans and Kofi was all like ‘alright I gotta get these shoes’ and we wore them on TV and then we had to clown them for it.
“But it’s things like that people enjoy. People want stuff that’s up to date, that feels current, that feels fresh, that’s in the zeitgeist, that’s still being talked about so that’s an element that we’ve tried to use to separate ourselves and we take a lot of pride in that.”
WWE Superstar and one-third of former WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day, Big E, recently did an interview with Mid Day. Here’s what he had to say:
The impact The Hardys have had on the WWE’s Tag Team division:
“I think it’s definitely heating up obviously with the addition of the Hardy Boyz… that’s huge for igniting people’s passion with WWE tag team wrestling again. Also, The Revival, dastardly as they maybe, I think they are very talented. They say ‘what’s old is made new’ so, they borrowing a lot of Brainbusters from the tag team and wrestling of that age has helped them feel new. On SmackDown Live, seeing The Usos with their latest turn as heel and reigniting their careers as well as seeing how much momentum they have. I am a big fan of Breezango as well. Those guys need to be given a chance which they are finally getting. I really feel they are gonna tear it up with the opportunity they have with The Usos.
“It’s exciting to sit back a bit, we are kind of forcibly before we eventually make our SmackDown Live debut. The tag team division is in pretty good hands. We also have an eye on what is going on at NXT. There’s a lot to like about tag team wrestling and we will see how things shape after the superstar shake up.”
The New Day’s journey from being heels to where they are now:
“Oh it is a very long story! Well, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods (the third member of The New Day) and me noticed quite early that we shared chemistry and a bond that was uncommon. Regardless of what incarnation the group would take, the WWE universe would see our chemistry and that would be the selling point. We believe that energy attracts energy. When we have fun and enjoy each others company, people are drawn in. However, The New Day would have manifested, we would be fine. Initially, we had a rocky start with ‘The New Day sucks’ chants. I remember, Xavier Woods being really fired up in the ring a few times. Initially it just started with a ‘clap’ (The New Day’s gimmick) and no words and Xavier Woods came up with that. It was a way to give us a clap that was unique and one that fans register as The New Day. It was hard on us for months. I remember us working a lot of time outside of WWE, at home, writing texts and emails trying to get on the same page and going out of our way to get this off the ground. And for people to tell us we suck, I mean, we are working as hard as we can.
“Most of WWE’s hardcore fan base wants to see underutilized wrestlers in better positions. And that was us. Kofi has been with WWE for a long time and never really had a world title opportunity and Woods never got to showcase his talents. We thought people would pull through for us, as underutilized guys, but it was not that way.
“I think, the one beautiful thing is that the WWE universe demonstrated that they have a voice and that they matter. If it wasn’t for them being so vocal and if they were apathetic, The New Day would have been dead in the water. It was perseverance for us as we believed in each other and that is the biggest take-away from this for us. If the WWE universe believes, they can definitely change a lot – like with Daniel Bryan and his WrestleMania moment. That is what is unique about WWE, that the fans can change and alter careers of the very WWE superstars that they watch.”
The New Day have been named the official hosts of WrestleMania 33. WWE’s longest reigning tag team champions ever appeared on TMZ Live on Monday to make the announcement.
“Our main goal is to have as much fun as possible because if were having fun, everybody’s having fun!”
