Drew McIntyre Reacts To High Praise From The Rock

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave some high praise to current WWE star Drew McIntyre while doing a recent interview.

“The Great” spoke with TMZ Sports while in New York City this week to do promotion for the “Hobbs & Shaw” movie that is set to open in theaters on Friday.

During the interview, the former WWE Champion was asked who he thinks is the next Rock or John Cena, or the next big Superstar in WWE.

The Rock noted that he’s not too sure but he knows a lot of guys are working hard. He recalled spending time with Roman Reigns, who is in the film, this week and they talked about all of the WWE stars. This included everybody who has potential and who doesn’t.

“I like Drew McIntyre, The Rock stated before adding,” I think he’s got a great look and a great build. Especially as he continues to hone in on his craft and connect with the audience.”

It didn’t take long for McIntyre to respond to The Rock’s comments as he took to his official Twitter account to write the following:

The Rock wasn’t in attendance for the recent RAW Reunion Special and his status for the first episode of SmackDown Live on FOX that takes place October 4th is still up in the air.

As of this writing, McIntyre has yet to receive an opponent at SummerSlam pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, August 11, 2019.

The Rock Discusses Picking Roman Reigns For “Hobbs & Shaw” Role

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently spoke with Yahoo to promote the new “Hobbs and Shaw” movie.

In the interview, the former WWE Champion explained why he decided to choose Roman Reigns as his brother in the movie. It simply came down to Reigns being the first name that he thought of.

The Rock continued by stating that Reigns read for the role because they don’t believe in nepotism but rather taking care of each other. He added that Reigns had to earn it.

Rock noted that there are a lot of qualities about Reigns that make him appealing to a global audience.

“Obviously it shows when he’s able to make a transition like this, and the very first day, first take – bang! He knocked it out of the park. It was a very great feeling because then I was like, ‘Mic drop, b—–s. Look at my cousin.'”

The news was revealed by Sami Zayn, who noted on his official Twitter account that he saw The Rock at the facility and thanked him for supporting his efforts to raise money for the #SamiForSyria campaign to start a mobile clinic in Syria.

You can see his post here:

As of this writing, there’s no word yet on exactly why the former WWE Champion was there but it should be noted that his daughter Simone Johnson does train there part-time and has done so since last year.

This has caused fans to speculate on what his appearance at the Performance Center means. As of this writing, he is not advertised to appear on next Monday’s RAW reunion and there have been no reports to clarify his status.

The Rock is regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He picked up his popularity in the mainstream while working in the WWE from 1996 to 2004. He was the first third-generation wrestler in the company’s history.

Rocky Johnson Memoir “Soulman” To Be Released October 19th

WWE Hall-of-Famer Rocky Johnson’s memoir “Soulman” will be released on October 19th. The father of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s story begins with a homeless 13-year-old Johnson living in Nova Scotia and continues to tell the story of him becoming the first black man to win the Southern, Georgia, and Florida heavyweight championships.

“Few people know anything about the man named Wayde Douglas Bowles, but this book will tell you everything you need to know. Born August 24, 1944, he grew up in Amherst, Nova Scotia; but he disappeared from the face of the earth in the summer of 1965. At the same time, a man named Rocky Johnson appeared, seemingly out of nowhere,” Johnson writes early in the book.

“I was both of those men. In July 1965, I became a professional wrestler and changed my name to Rocky Johnson.”

Executive Editor from ECW Press Michael Holmes praised working with Johnson on the project.

“Rocky Johnson’s story moved me from start to finish — a Nova Scotia trailblazer who overcame hardship and seemingly insurmountable odds to become one of the most impressive wrestlers of his time, not to mention one of the first and most celebrated black professional wrestling champions in territories all over North America,” Holmes said to the CBC.

“We’re so happy to help share it with the world.”

Netflix To Release “Red Notice” Film Starring The Rock

Netflix has landed one of the biggest films to date as it was announced on Monday that the streaming service will release “Red Notice” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

It was also revealed that Ryan Reynolds, from Deadpool, Free Guy and 6 Underground, will star alongside the Rock and Gal Gadot, from Wonder Woman 1984 and Death on the Nile, according to Deadline.

There was a bidding battle for the film last year where Netflix was the runner-up and the rights bought by Universal Pictures. At the time, the studio wanted to release it on November 13, 2020. That all changed last week once the filmmakers sensed hesitation from Universal in a meeting late last month.

Now, there is a 2020 production start for the Rawson Marshall Thurber-directed and -scripted movie. Thurber’s finished script was shown to Netflix 10 days ago. It was noted that Red Notice was one of the biggest film packages brokered last year.

The Rock will make $20 million for the film while an eight-figure deal for Thurber, who directed Johnson in Central Intelligence and Skyscraper. Netflix pays upfront salaries and buys out the backend, which means that Netflix has committed to arguably its biggest feature film to date as it will include a production budget in the $130 million range.

The film is an international action thriller centered around the pursuit of the most wanted art thief in the world. It takes place in multiple countries.

The Rock commented on the news by writing the following on his official Instagram account:

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless  rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves. Elias Issues Challenge To The Rock (Video)

Elias recently took part in a media scrum ahead of WrestleMania 35 where he spoke about a wide range of topics.

During the scrum, he was asked about recently singing with Finn Balor at a live event, and if there are any other people, he would want to sing along with. This led to Elias talking about how he thinks The Rock is afraid of him and challenged him to be a man and show up to a WWE event.

This comes after Elias previously challenged both John Cena and The Undertaker. In a previous interview, the Monday Night RAW mentioned how he thinks he needs a program with a top star who has a great character.

“I believe he’s afraid of Elias. If The Rock has it in him, by all means, come on down, show up, try and walk with Elias. I’ll show you how it’s done.”

Every year there is speculation on whether he will appear at WrestleMania. He hasn’t wrestled since WrestleMania 29 against Cena but did have technically a match with Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32, but it was very brief.

WWE has yet to advertise The Rock for WrestleMania 35. Thus, it’s not likely “The Great One” will make an appearance.

The Rock Developing New Tequila Brand

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is developing his own brand of tequila, the popular alcoholic spirit derived from the blue agave plant.

The WWE legend turned box office kingpin says he spent all weekend taste testing every batch of his new tequila fresh out of the barrels from Mexico.

In a message posted on Instagram Monday morning, he wrote:

“I’m very passionate about my new tequila we’re developing. It’s been years in the making and every road has led here. Lots of growing excitement. Mana, passion, positivity, hard work and fun. This ones for you world, let’s have a drink. “

The accompanying photo (seen below) shows tester samples of silver, reposado and anejo tequilas.

Although The Rock did not reveal the brand name of his new tequila collection, his #2019 hashtag implies us non-Rock mortals will get to sample it later this year.

The Rock Says He Identifies As Both Black and Samoan

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has cleared up on what he identifies as in a Twitter thread.

The Hollywood star responded to a fan on Twitter who in a debate regarding his ethnicity, said that The Rock “identifies as Samoan in WWE and was booked that way.”

The former WWE Champion cleared up the confusion regarding what he identifies as and wrote, “Glad I came across this and I’ll give you guys some context & truth.
I identify as exactly what I am – both. Equally proud. Black/Samoan. And my friend, let me expand your thoughts a bit here – I transcended race in wrestling so there was no “booked that way”. Thx guys (sic)”

The Twitter thread stemmed from a comment which said that “Vince McMahon is going to extraordinary lengths to stop a black man becoming champion.” The man in question here is Kofi Kingston, who is currently involved in a top storyline with his WWE Championship pursuits. Despite a valiant fight this SmackDown Live in a gauntlet match and defeating the roster’s best five back-to-back, Kofi was blindsided by Vince McMahon who then put him in another match against Daniel Bryan which he was unable to win. New Day even thought of quitting the company, but Kofi said that if they quit now then it will be a win for Daniel Bryan and Mr. McMahon.

Rock, on the other hand, has been open and public about his dual ethnicity. He had also revealed that the character he voiced in Moana named Maui, was partly inspired by his late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia of Samoa. Rock’s mother Ata Johnson is Samoan, while his father is of Black Nova Scotian heritage. Rock is considered a non-blood relative of the Anoa’i wrestling family through his mother.

The Rock Lists His Greatest Wrestlers Of All Time

Many people believe that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. His accomplishments in the pro wrestling business backup that mindset.

However, in the eyes of “The People’s Champion,” he has his own top three list of wrestlers who fit into the category. Rock elaborated on this mindset during a recent post on his official Instagram account reflecting on his match against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 18 in 2002 at the SkyDome.

In this post, he named his three GOATS, which are Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair. He posted the following:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BvJiG8IBc6F/?utm_source=ig_embed

The Rock is regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. The Rock Buying His Father A New Home (Video)

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced on Instagram that he is buying a home for his father, WWE Hal of Famer Rocky Johnson.

In a video posted Friday, The Rock said he recently told his dad he wants to buy him a new home. His father was so touched by the gesture that he was practically speechless.

“My dad’s an old-school tough guy,” The Rock explained. ‘What the hell are you nervous about?’ And he said, ‘Well,’ he was searching for words. ‘No one ever called to tell me they were gonna buy me a house before and the fact that it’s you, it’s my son, I’m so proud of you and I love you so much.”

“I never heard my dad talk like that. It felt good to me and it felt good to my heart,” he emotionally said. “You know, my dad used to beat my a**. Tough love, and I hated it back then, but I’m so grateful for it now. It just felt good to kind of give back to the ones who raised you. So, love you too, Pop.”

Batista Clarifies His Statement Regarding The Rock

Dave Batista made an immediate impact upon his surprise return this past Monday on RAW. That wasn’t the only thing that has garnered “The Animal” media attention, however.

A recent interview with TampaBay.com saw Batista discussing his “hate” of being compared to John Cena and The Rock for moving from pro wrestling into acting.

Regarding The Rock, in particular, he would admit that “Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him. Would I consider him a great actor? F*** no.”

Batista has since tweeted out a statement in order to clarify his sentiment. He claims that he was not “bashing anyone” and that he speaks from the heart, which occasionally “comes across harsh.” He ended with a definitive point regarding the interview, saying, “I stand by the interview w/@TB_Times.”

https://twitter.com/DaveBautista/status/1100886065076989952

“The Animal” made his return to WWE this week after months of speculation. He would assault Ric Flair in Flair’s locker room, taunting Triple H once the attack had ended. Batista is scheduled to appear at next week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in the build-up to a potential match against “The Game” at WrestleMania 35.

Batista On The Rock: “Would I Consider Him A Great Actor? F— No”

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Batista recently did an interview with TampaBay.com where he spoke about a wide range of topics.

During this interview, he discussed how he “hates” being compared the likes of former WWE Champions John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as they are an elite group of WWE stars who have made the successful transition from being a pro wrestler to an actor in Hollywood.

“Do not compare me to The Rock or John Cena. Everyone does it. Those guys are wrestlers who became movie stars. I’m … something else. I was a wrestler. Now, I’m an actor.”

Batista also made some interesting comments about Johnson, who is a future WWE Hall of Famer and will go down as one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step foot inside of the squared circle. He wants to be his own person and not seen in the same light as The Rock.

“Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him,” Bautista says. “Would I consider him a great actor? F— no.”

Batista would continue by bringing up how he wants good roles that don’t have to be movies such as Fast and Furious or Bumblebee. Instead, he wants to work with Academy Award winners and be a character actor that is well respected.

“I want good roles. I don’t care about Fast and Furious or Bumblebee. … That’s not the kind of stardom I want. … I want to be in Dune. I want to work with Denis Villeneuve. I want to work with Sam Mendes and Jodie Foster. I want to work with Academy Award winners. I’m proud to be a character actor. I want that respect and credibility and education.”

Other topics discussed include his troubled upbringing, how he broke into wrestling his tattoos, politics and much more. Visit TampaBay.com to read the full interview.

The Rock Congratulates Chris Jericho On AEW Double Or Nothing Selling Out

All Elite Wrestling made history this week when tickets for Double or Nothing sold out in less than 5 minutes.

AEW star Chris Jericho posted a video on Twitter taking full credit for the historic achievement. Jericho said the entire AEW crew was celebrating their success, but he’s actually the one who is solely responsible.

WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took notice of Jericho’s video and got a kick out of it. Rock joked that he loves Jericho’s babyface promos and congratulated him on Double or Nothing selling out.

It’s not the first time The Rock has taken notice of big happenings in the world of pro wrestling outside of WWE. Back in September, The Rock congratulated Cody on winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at All In.

AEW Double or Nothing takes place Saturday, May 25th from Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

John Krasinski Comments on Fighting With My Family, Gets The Rock’s Name Wrong

The new feature length film ‘Fighting With My Family’ has been garnering rave reviews recently. The biopic of WWE Superstar Paige follows her early life through to her career in the WWE. The film was written by Office star Stephen Merchant and produced by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Hollywood star John Krasinski recently saw the film and tweeted some comments on the biopic. Krasinski said “Had the great pleasure of seeing the film tonight, written and directed by good friend and produced by Dave Johnson! It’ll make you laugh, cry… and suplex! Congrats to all involved!”

The Rock was quick to note that his name had been…incorrectly written. Dwayne responded to Krasinski saying “Whaaaaat an assh*le. If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times… it’s Darnell, not Dave. Thrilled you and Blunty loved our movie.”

Johnson recently made some public comments on the film and why Hollywood studios weren’t interested in Paige’s story. “We wanted a studio to buy into it, and no one did,” Rock said. “We got passed on everywhere. It was a small British comedy about a crazy wrestling family that wasn’t famous.”

Danny Garcia, who oversees Seven Bucks Productions added, “Wrestling is the conduit for Paige’s journey, and that has a certain stigma.”

The Rock On Reason Hollywood Studios Didn’t Buy Into “Fighting With My Family”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions has produced a feature film based on the life of the Knight family including Saraya Knight aka Paige that is titled “Fighting With My Family.”

The film was produced in conjunction with WWE Studios and Film 4. While doing a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, The Rock revealed that there were several big Hollywood studios that decided to pass on the movie because of the stigma that pro wrestling still carries.

Paige will not be playing herself but rather will be portrayed by actress Florence Pugh. Lena Headey and Nick Frost will play Paige’s parents in the film. Vince Vaughn as Jake Roberts and Zelina Vega as AJ Lee. The Rock will also make a cameo.

The film is slated to be in theaters around the country on February 22.

Mick Foley Talks WWE Halftime Heat Empty Arena Match

WWE will once again present Halftime Heat during tonight’s SuperBowl. NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano, and Adam Cole will be facing against Ricochet, The Velveteen Dream, and Aleister Black.

Mick Foley took part in an Empty Arena match for the last Halftime Heat, facing The Rock. Foley recently spoke to ESPN regarding the match and who thought of the idea to present a WWE show during the SuperBowl’s halftime.

“I think a year earlier MTV has had a lot of success doing Celebrity Deathmatch with claymation figures, one of which was Stone Cold Steve Austin, and they’d done a tremendous rating during halftime of the Super Bowl,” Foley stated. “I don’t know when the idea came to Mr. McMahon to take that giant audience and kind of keep it for ourselves, but I do remember being asked about it, and then it was my suggestion that The Rock and I do an empty arena match.”

Foley also discussed how different the presentation was to a usual WWE show. “The fact that it was so completely different than anything on television was also indicative of the chances we regularly took, whether it was on the microphone or in the ring” Foley claimed. “Later on, [that] really led to great chemistry as a tag team. We were really rolling, and it was understood that The Rock was going to go on to bigger and better things, one of them being a WrestleMania main event with Stone Cold Steve Austin.”

First Trailer Of The Rock’s Fast And Furious Spin-Off ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Released

Universal Pictures had teased a trailer release for the Rock’s Fast and Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw earlier this week, and the video was released earlier today.

The trailer as seen below features the Rock and Jason Statham who reprise their respective roles as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw from the multi-billion dollar Fast & Furious franchise:

Though the first part of the trailer focuses more on Idris Elba’s Brixton who is main villain of this movie. He gains some superhuman abilities like extraordinary strength after being the subject of some scientific experiments.

The later parts then advance the story with the authorities bringing Hobbs & Shaw together to neutralize this threat. As expected these two are not very excited about teaming up with each other.

As noted before, Roman Reigns is also a part of this movie and the Rock had recently revealed via an Instagram post that Roman is playing the part of his brother in the film.

Though we don’t get to see Roman’s character in the released video. So we’ll have to wait for some more time to get our first good look at the Big Dog’s character.

Hobbs & Shaw which is directed by Deadpool 2’s David Leitch will be released on August 2.
