Two of the WWE’s biggest stars in history will make the trip to Dallas, Texas for WrestleMania 32. The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin are confirmed for the event. Rocky announced it on his Instagram page and Austin just confirmed it for a second time in a recent interview.
That doesn’t include the third person in this title, Shawn Michaels. He’s not guaranteed for the event, but it is in his hometown and the rumors about his involvement in the main event have run rampant recently.
Despite the alliteration, these three men need to have a plan if they’ll be there. WrestleMania is the biggest show of the year and WWE fans aren’t keen on the main event. At this very second, Roman Reigns is set to take on Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight championship.
There’s nobody in their corners and a special guest referee hasn’t been announced. Less than six weeks still remains between now and April 3. WWE fans are so enraged, that “#CancelWWENetwork” was trending after WWE Fastlane.
In a recent column, I talked about how Shane McMahon, the Undertaker and Vince McMahon saved WrestleMania 32. There match will build suspense, drama, and it already has a great story to go along with it.
While many disagreed, more might need to be done before WrestleMania is “saved.” These three men could do just that, but it’s going to take a creative angle and originality. In this writer’s opinion, here’s what the Rock, Stone Cold and HBK should do for WrestleMania:
The Rock – He has to protect Roman Reigns as much a possible. Sure, they tried that at the Royal Rumble in Philadelphia in 2015, but Reigns was despised then. There are more fans that support Reigns, that didn’t use to support him. Most WWE fans know that Reigns will beat Triple H to win the title. If that’s the case, then he needs to be over-booked. Put the Rock in Reigns’ corner against the Authority. When Stephanie or even someone in HHH’s corner tried to do something, have the Rock perform one of his finishers on HHH while the referee is distracted. That allows for a big pop from the Mania crowd, by giving the WWE fans a chance to cheer indirectly for Reigns. It’s worth a shot.
Shawn Michaels – This one is a big difficult to figure out. If he is involved in WrestleMania, then he must be backing up his friend, Triple H. Then again, why not throw the entire kitchen sink at the Authority and have the Heartbreak Kid back up Reigns instead? Vince doesn’t want AT&T Stadium booing Reigns out of the building. He’s supposed to be the next face of the company. It won’t be as a heel, even though Reigns’ inevitable heel turn will succeed. Triple H is still the heel in this feud. HBK will be a babyface no matter what he does. HHH needs to reach for a sledgehammer and the Sweet Chin Music must connect with Paul Levesque’s face.
Stone Cold Steve Austin– WWE officials have some thinking to do before deciding what Stone Cold is doing at WrestleMania 32. Frankly, where does Austin fit? It wouldn’t make sense for him to get involved in the main event. For Austin, it’s probably best to put over a young guy in a big match. In that vein, a promo war between the New Day and Stone Cold would put “butts in the seats.” It doesn’t make much sense by looking at it, but Edge and Christian already helped put over the New Day even more. Giving Austin the platform to go back-and-forth with Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods isn’t a bad idea.
None of those ideas are guaranteed to happen. Reigns will surely be over-booked in fear of him getting booed out of the building at AT&T Stadium.
WWE put themselves in a precarious position with the booking of Reigns. Monday Night Raw was a great example of that. Triple H was beating him to a pulp and feeding off the crowd. HHH was the babyface in that exchange. The show ended with HHH standing over Reigns with the strap as the crowd cheered.
Something needs to get amended if they want Reigns to go above and beyond with the WWE Universe.
At one point, the Rock wasn’t well-liked by the fans. He was Rocky Maivia. When he turned heel, the rest is history.
Perhaps Roman Reigns should follow that path. WrestleMania would be a great place to do that.
At a couple different points tonight, the official WWE Games Twitter account tweeted these animated GIFs to hype Tuesday’s release of the Hall of Fame downloadable content pack for WWE 2K16, which is out this Tuesday:
It was already known that 1991 versions of Ric Flair and Tatsumi Fujinami plus a relevant match replay mode were in the Hall of Fame pack, but they had two matches that year. It seemed like it made more sense for 2K to base it off their match from Superbrawl in St. Petersburg, Florida, but from the above footage, it looks like they didn’t. Instead, 2K picked the OTHER Flair-Fujinami match, from the NJPW Tokyo Dome show that year, which is known as both WCW Japan Supershow and NJPW Starrcade ’91 In The Tokyo Dome. So that means that the arena that comes in the pack is an ersatz Tokyo Dome, faithfully recreated by 2K Sports. They can’t call it that (and I don’t believe WWE games ever name real venues), but 2K does a great job with the presentation of the arenas and this should be no exception.
Here’s the full lineup for the DLC pack, which, if this is any indication, should also include at least two more WCW arenas and some early ’90s WWF arenas along with period appropriate versions of the wrestlers:
“Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts
Rikishi vs. The Rock
Alundra Blayze vs. Paige
Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Dustin Rhodes
Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Ric Flair
The Bushwhackers (Butch Miller and Luke Williams) vs. The Natural Disasters (Typhoon and Earthquake)
The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) vs. Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray)
– Paul Heyman’s Heyman Hustle website has published a heartfelt open letter by Gabe Sapolsky addressing Daniel Bryan’s retirement.
– Speaking of Gabe, he announced on Monday night that Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay will headline the EVOLVE 59 live event in Dallas on 4/2 during WrestleMania 32 weekend. For ticket information and details of how you can stream the show live, visit MoreThanMania.com.
WWE management was not happy with The Rock going off the script during his segment on RAW last week. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, some WWE staffers were reportedly “freaking out” backstage when The Rock decided to interrupt his promo to talk to fans in the front row dressed as WWE Hall of Famers.
According to reports, for anyone other than The Rock or Cena, the stunt would have gotten them fired. The Rock is able to go off the script as there is nothing WWE can really do to him at this point.
Ha well at @WWE events, going "off script" is what I live for. So much fun for the fans. Nightmare for Vince. ? https://t.co/NeBxm8yMHI
For those who didn’t watch the show, the fan dressed as Randy Savage prompted several “Macho Man” chants during RAW by standing on his chair. Security told the fans to calm down, and they were eventually removed and given different seats.
A topic that’s gotten some attention this past week on wrestling websites and social media has been the continuing discussion of WWE’s treatment of women both behind the scenes and in terms of their storytelling. While this has been brewing for a while because of the whole NXT Women’s Division vs. WWE Divas’ Division dynamic, it came to a head this past week because of two moments on WWE programming:
Ric Flair forcibly kissing Becky Lynch as a distraction spot and the announcers laughing it off as a comedy spot.
The Rock’s entire interaction with Lana, who was returning to TV after a noticeable absence, being about the idea that she cheated on Rusev with him when he last appeared on Monday Night Raw.
Today, the topic was explored in an article at Vocative by Alex Groot titled “WWE’s Looming Sexism Problem.” When asked for comment on the piece, WWE issued the following statement:
WWE programming, which features fictional characters that cover a range of personalities similar to movies and television shows, tells stories of good versus evil. In addition, as our on-going storylines develop, we will continue to position women as both strong competitors and compelling individuals.
Of course, as mentioned by Groot, even if you can argue that at least Flair was an evil villain doing evil things, The Rock was the babyface and Lana was the heel.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s next movie, Fast & Furious 8, is set to be filmed in Atlanta, New York City, and Iceland. According to MovieWeb.com, the film will be released on April 14th, 2017 and filming will feature “one of the biggest explosions ever seen” in Iceland.
Johnson is also booked to film Baywatch this year, which will be released on May 19th, 2017. Earlier this month, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported The Rock will not be allowed to wrestle at WrestleMania 32 due to contractual obligations he has to the Baywatch movie and their insurance provider.
After those, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion will film Shazam!, which is set for an April 2019 release.
There is said to be ‘another round’ of heat on Lana, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.
Lana recently said something that’s getting her a lot of negative attention backstage. Meltzer noted that “it’s probably nothing except everyone is talking about it.” The Rock’s backstage interaction with her last night where he spoke about her coming to his hotel room and telling Rusev how ‘flexible’ she is that reflects her current standing with the company.
Previously, Lana was in the doghouse after she went public with her engagement to Rusev while they were broken up on WWE television. She also didn’t win anybody over by calling out Paige on Twitter a few months ago.
Despite what’s going on with Lana, Rusev is still well liked backstage.
– Former NXT creative assistant Rob Naylor was tweeting during RAW and liked what he saw with the Rock and New Day segment, especially Rock going off script and Woods-Big E showing their natural charisma.
Byron and The Rock interacting is legitimately undoing every second of poor tv I've watched all year.
– Chris Jericho will be Jonathan Coachman’s guest this week Tuesday night on ESPN Sports Center. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose will be on Jericho’s Highlight Wheel on Thursday’s SmackDown.

We are less than a week away from the season two premiere of one of the best pro wrestling shows on television, Lucha Underground. If you’ve got the El Rey network and want to catch up on all the action from season 1, there’s a 40-hour marathon that kicks off Saturday morning at 10am. Lucha Underground star Prince Puma tweeted a message to The Rock encouraging him to check out season 2. The Rock responded, saying the show looks cool and gritty. Director Robert Rodriguez thanked The Rock and the official Twitter account of Lucha Underground even extended an invitation for The Rock to visit the temple. You know you’re doing something right when you get an endorsement from The Rock!
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns spoke with The Times of India to promote this past week’s live events in New Delhi, where he replaced John Cena as the face of the tour. He was asked how it feels to fill the shoes of the world’s most popular wrestler.
“It’s a great honor. John Cena has been the standard-bearer of professional wrestling for the past 10-12 years, and to follow in his footsteps is a great opportunity. I just want to give my best and represent my family and my people,” said Reigns.
“It’s unfortunate that John couldn’t be here because of the injury and we all hope he will be fit again soon. I for one, can’t wait to square off against him. But then, you have to remember that I’m the reigning World Heavyweight Champion. There is a certain weight to that, a certain standard. Like John used to say, ‘The champ is here and in the end, that’s all that matters!'”
Reigns was also asked if he expects Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to challenge him for the title at WrestleMania 32.
“I expect The Rock would want to keep his pretty face intact for Hollywood. He better stay away from me in the ring,” Reigns said. “But honestly, anybody who wants to get into the ring with me and take the world title, just try!”
Reigns also discussed his rivalry with Big Show, visiting India for the first time, WWE matches being scripted and more. You can check out the interview here.
In what will likely kill some WrestleMania 32 rumors, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there is no way The Rock will be able to actually wrestle at the event. This is due to contractual obligations he has to the Baywatch movie and their insurance provider. The Baywatch movie will be filming around the same time as ‘Mania.
WWE reportedly has a full WrestleMania 32 card penciled in right now without any sign of The Rock on it. The Rock has been teasing an appearance at the company’s biggest pay-per-view of the year, and it seems that he will be limited to a speaking-only role.
Baywatch starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will hit theaters in 2017, and also features former WWE diva Kelly Kelly.

WrestleMania 32 takes place on April 3, 2016, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. We’ll have live results on that Sunday night here on SEScoops, and backstage news all week leading up to the biggest wrestling event of the year.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently wrote on Instagram about his days in the late-90’s Attitude Era of WWE. The Rock was reminded of his first run as a WWE Champion by some artwork sent to him by a fan. “1998 (Attitude Era) was a supremely special time for us – as a roster we were setting “box office” records every night, in every city, in every arena we played,” he wrote.
The Rock continued, saying that “as an OG of the wrestling business” he has some advice for the WWE roster: “Here’s the best part about the WWE today – that “brass ring” is ALWAYS up for grabs to anyone in that locker room who has the balls and smarts to take it and run and most importantly prove to the company that they can draw more money better than everyone on the roster.”
Here’s what the former WWE champ had to say in it’s entirety, along with the fan art that prompted his message:

Back in December, The Rock revealed he plans to make “all-time WrestleMania history,” and that he has a “little surprise” planned for WrestleMania 32 in April.
According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, while there’s enough time between now and WrestleMania 32 that it’s certainly possible an arrangement can still be made, The Rock won’t be wrestling an actual match on the show for the same reason reported in the past regarding issues with concerns from the insurance people involved in the “Baywatch” movie he is working on.
As of this week, WWE has a full card in mind for WrestleMania 32, which takes place on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and while whatever The Rock is doing is indeed scheduled to be a big part of the show, he is not included in any of the matches and is not expected to be added to any of them.
Currently, Triple H vs Roman Reigns is the main event WWE has in mind for the show, and with The Rock being related to Reigns and endorsing him in the storylines at last year’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, coupled with the fact that he was expected to wrestle Triple H if he did work a match on this show, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that it’s possible he will play a role in that match.
– WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns replaced the injured John Cena on the WWE tour of India, which kicks off this coming weekend. Cena took to social media to thank the champ for filling in for him on short notice, and to apologize to the fans for the fact that he won’t be there as advertised. Cena tweeted the following:
– Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appeared as a presenter at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday evening. The Rock presented the award for “Best Supporting Television Actress” alongside Jennifer Lopez. The award was won by Maura Tierney for her work on “The Affair.” Below is a photo of The Rock and J-Lo presenting the award last night.
– The new voice of WWE SmackDown on the USA Network, Mauro Ranallo, spoke with WWE.com for a “SmackDown Fallout” post-show interview. In the brief backstage interview, which you can view above via WWE’s official YouTube channel, Ranallo talks about it being a dream 30 years in the making to call a show for WWE.
– Speaking of announcers, the new NXT announce team of Tom Phillips and Corey Graves made their official debut at the NXT television tapings at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida on Thursday night.
– Vince McMahon posted the following on Twitter on Friday morning to congratulate The Rock on winning the Favorite Cable TV Actor Award at this year’s People’s Choice Awards.
As we settle into 2016, future WWE Hall Of Famer Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson continues to keep the buzz going on social media regarding his WrestleMania 32 appearance this April, which he announced this past Monday afternoon.
In addition to hyping up the fact that he plans to make “all-time WrestleMania history,” which he noted in his initial announcement earlier this week, The Rock is now promoting the fact that he has a “little surprise” planned for “The Show of Shows” this year as well.
It’s still unclear whether or not The Rock will be wrestling or simply appearing on the show, however the belief is he won’t be able to wrestle due to a number of issues, including his inability to get insurance coverage for his next movie project, something he was told would happen if he agreed to step inside the squared circle again before wrapping up filming.
Regardless, if you have been following The Rock’s various social media accounts since his announcement on Monday, it’s clear at this point that he has more planned than stopping by AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, April 3rd to simply say “hello” to the WWE Universe.
Below are The Rock’s latest tweets related to his WrestleMania 32 announcement, which shows the mainstream media coverage he can still garner for WWE by simply agreeing to appear at a big event for the company. As seen in the tweets below, “The Great One” responded to WWE, Variety, Vibe Magazine and Entertainment Weekly to hype the “next-level sh*t” and “little surprise” he has in store for WWE fans in April.
– The Rock and NXT star Bull Dempsey had some fun on Twitter earlier this week. The two joked around after Dempsey tagged The Rock in a tweet where he wrote, “The Rock obviously knows that #FitHappens. #BullFit.” The Rock ended up responding and before you knew it, “The Rock & Fruck Connection” was born. Below are the tweets Dempsey and The Rock sent to each other this week.
@BullDempseyWWE Ah 'fit' replaces 'shit'. Funny play ???. Let's evolve it in 2016 to "Fruck".
– Jeff Hardy and his wife Beth had an extra special New Year’s Eve on Thursday, as the couple welcomed their second daughter, Nera Quinn Hardy, to the world. Hardy posted the following on his official Instagram page:
WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross updated his official blog at JRsBarBQ.com with his thoughts on a number of topics. Below are some of the highlights.
On Kurt Angle in the WWE Hall Of Fame:
I’d think that Kurt Angle going into the WWE Hall of Fame is a lead pipe cinch but when its the only question that I have. I’d love to see Kurt in a WWE retirement match and then be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame if and when WWE has the time and desire to make this matter a priority. I’d assume WWE inducts Kurt into the Hall likely before he wrestles for them in a high profile match at Wrestlemania. Simply speculating that WWE is leery of Kurt’s lingering neck issues but that’s merely my speculation.
“I have no speculation that Kurt Angle isn’t a deserving WWE Hall of Famer in the future. How can that be debatable?”
On talking to The Rock through email recently:
“Exchanged emails with The Rock while in Miami as he’s busy with a new baby girl and HBO’s ‘Ballers.’ I know of no one who seeming stays as busy as the Rock in the world of show biz. He’s a one man conglomerate who will be appearing at Wrestlemania Texas in April but I’m doubtful that he will be in a match but I hope that I’m wrong.”
On the early WWE Royal Rumble betting odds:
“There is an early betting line on the ’16 Royal Rumble. I’m being serious. Where were all these betting lines on WWE events when I was in administration there? Probably a good thing it wasn’t around at least that I’m aware or I might have been guilty of ‘insider betting.’ BTW the favorites to win are entrant #1, go figure, and entrant #30. I’d lean toward Brock Lesnar as my favorite to win it all if he’s in it.”
– Regarding The Rock’s confirmed WrestleMania 32 appearance in April, which he continues to claim will “make history,” his availability to appear on RAW to help promote and build-up his appearance could be limited due to his Baywatch filming schedule.
– WWE is planning to use a smaller stage for their upcoming NXT TakeOver: Dallas live special during WrestleMania 32 weekend in April. The new stage setup will block fewer seats than usual and will allow an estimated 9,156 fans inside the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, as opposed to the 7,000 seats normally available with their standard setup. NXT TakeOver: Dallas is projected to be the third most-attended NXT event in history, trailing only NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn at the Barclays Center and NXT TakeOver: London at Wembley Arena.
– The Rock continues to hype the fact that he plans to make history during his appearance at WrestleMania 32 in April. His latest tweet about his WrestleMania 32 announcement from earlier this week reads as follows:
– New England Patriots player Rob Gronkowski was in attendance at the WWE live event in Providence, Rhode Island on Tuesday night. Below are some photos WWE posted of the NFL star with Mojo Rawley at the show, as well as a tweet Lana sent to “Gronk” about “disrespecting” Rusev at the show.
The Rock, Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan will be appearing in the upcoming Expendables 4 movie, according to a report at ChristianToday.com. The news has yet to be confirmed by any reputable movie news publications, so take this as a rumor for now.
The WWE legends will be joining Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and franchise newcomer Pierce Brosnan.
Production begins next year the film is slated for a 2017 release.
Hogan is expected to be playing the main villain in the movie. In a previous interview, Hogan said,
“We’re trying to figure out a way to maybe turn me into the most evil man in the world. You know, Stallone gave me my first break. He’s been a great friend for all these years. We had a great conversation, talking about the possibilities. Can I still run, can I still jump? Well, not as fast or not as high, but I think Hollywood could find a good stunt man to help me out.”
WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official blog at JRsBarBQ.com with his thoughts on Vince McMahon’s WWE television return, more potential changes coming with SmackDown moving to USA Network, The Rock’s WrestleMania 32 announcement and more. Below are some highlights.
On Vince McMahon’s TV return and being the company’s best heel:
“Vince McMahon was the star of the broadcast . He’s the WWE’s best heel by far. He loves his role, makes it is own and isn’t playing the role of a villain. I thought it was smart booking that WWE promoted the next RAW main event of which is a WWE title match with McMahon as the special referee. How many times will the Montreal Screw Job be referenced between now and January 4th?
“McMahon’s return has been a spark for RAW whose TV ratings have been in the tank.”
On more changes coming to WWE SmackDown:
“Tonight is the final Smackdown TV taping for WWE this year and before Mauro Ranallo takes over as the lead Smackdown broadcaster when the show moves to the USA Network the first Thursday in January. I expect there to be more announcer tweaks as the new year progresses as well.”
On The Rock’s WrestleMania 32 announcement:
“Rock will be a part of WM32 in Texas but will he wrestle? In any event for the Rock to simply be committed to the April 3 event in Texas is HUGE.”
As announced by the man himself on Monday, The Rock will be appearing at WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on April 3rd.
Since making the initial announcement and spending some time responding to fans on social media, The Rock and others have been hinting at something big being planned for his involvement at next year’s “Show of Shows.”
After noting that he intends to “make all-time WrestleMania history” as part of his original announcement, The Rock followed up later Monday evening and mentioned that he and WWE “have a big and history making night planned.”
Whether or not The Rock will be wrestling or just appearing on the show remains to be seen. Below are some more comments from The Rock about his WrestleMania 32 appearance, including a tweet from his originally rumored opponent for the show, Triple H.
Whether or not The Rock will be wrestling or just appearing on the show remains to be seen. Below are some more comments from The Rock about his WrestleMania 32 appearance, including a tweets from his originally rumored opponent for the show, Triple H and WWE Superstar Rusev.
Following the announcement he made on Monday afternoon that he will be appearing at next year’s WrestleMania 32 event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, The Rock stuck around on social media for a short while to respond to some of the fans reactions — both positive and negative — to the big news.
Below is a recap of The Rock’s replies to fans commenting on the fact that he will be appearing at WrestleMania on April 3rd.
