As promised, The Rock delivered the special announcement to his WWE fans prior to the final 2015 edition of RAW on Monday night, and it was actually a pretty decent announcement when compared to those who have made such promises in the past.
The Rock revealed via his official Instagram page that despite rumors to the contrary, he will be making an appearance at WrestleMania 32 on April 3, 2016 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The future WWE Hall Of Famer wrote the following on the social media account, informing fans on the three goals he has for his appearance at WWE’s biggest annual event.
IT’S OFFICIAL: People’s Champ is coming home to do 3 things with THE PEOPLE: Set an ALL-TIME attendance record, ELECTRIFY Dallas like never before & make all time #WRESTLEMANIA history. And we have FUN. Ok that’s four things but you know what the hell The Rock’s sayin’.. THANK YOU #WWEUniverse! It’s always an honor coming home and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. #PeoplesChamp4L #MakingElectrifyingHistory #SmackethLaidDownOnThyCandyAsses
Just minutes after he made the announcement, WWE.com posted an article to promote the fact that The Rock will be at WrestleMania 32, and WWE’s official WrestleMania Twitter page tweeted the following to create some buzz for the news on social media.
For Christmas, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave former WWE Superstar Haku (real name Tonga Fifita) a new truck.
While Tonga Fifita is known to wrestling fans as either Haku or Meng, to Johnson, he is Uncle Tonga. Johnson’s grandfather, WWE Hall of Famer High Chief Peter Maivia, helped train Fifita to become a professional wrestler in the 1970s.
Johnson shared a story on Instagram of borrowing a pair of purple trunks from Haku for his tryout match with WWE, which was also his first-ever wrestling match (he faced The Brooklyn Brawler in a dark match on March 10, 1996 at a Superstars taping in Corpus Christi, Texas).
Merry Christmas Uncle Tonga – enjoy your new truck! Cool Christmas story to share with y’all… Known my “Uncle Tonga” since I was 5yrs old. My grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia helped train him to become a professional wrestler in the 70’s. Throughout Tonga’s illustrious wrestling career he changed his name to “King Haku” and became one the WWE’s most sought after “bad guys” and still known to this day for being one of the toughest and legit most vicious man in wrestling history.
Years later and I get a call from WWE saying “Vince McMahon wants to see you wrestle immediately. He’s flying you to RAW tomorrow and you’ll have a tryout match.” I thought holy shit that’s awesome, buuuut there’s a few problems: For me, I wasn’t just having “a tryout match”, because I had never actually HAD a real match in my life. Ever. WWE thought that I already had multiple matches under my belt, but little did they know. What they also didn’t know was that I was broke as hell and didn’t actually own wrestling gear – no boots, knee pads or most importantly.. wrestling trunks. I went to Sports Authority and bought some bright ass white volleyball knee pads, called my Uncle and asked if he had ANY trunks I could use for my tryout. He said all I have is a pair of shiny purple trunks (purple was his signature color), I told him I don’t care if the trunks are all the colors of Skittles, I’ll happily wear them. When I picked the trunks up from him I’ll never forget the monster hug he gave me, look me in the eyes and said, “I’m so proud of you. Go get ’em nephew!” Here’s the picture of me wrestling my FIRST MATCH EVER in Corpus Christi, TX in front of 15,000 people – proudly in my lucky purple trunks. And the rest… was history.
My Uncle Tonga is a family man, humble man and champion. Most importantly one of the greatest human beings I know. So we walk outside and I said “Uncle how do you like my truck?” He said, “Whoooaaa nephew it’s beautiful… I love it!” I said “Good ’cause it’s yours.” He was speechless. Thru tears (manly of course;) we monster hugged ’cause I’ll never forget what he did for me when I had nothing. Merry Christmas Uncle and ofa atu. #LuckyPurpleTrunks
While The Rock wasn’t able to accept his Slammy Award this past Monday on WWE RAW, he did give an online acceptance speech and promised a big surprise for next Monday prior to RAW.
The Rock wrote the following on his official Instagram page regarding winning the “This Is Awesome Moment of the Year” award for his WrestleMania appearance with UFC star Ronda Rousey, and his “surprise” planned for Monday.
The Rock hasn’t appeared on WWE television since WrestleMania, however he did turn up at a WWE live event in Boston this Summer, where he confronted Bo Dallas. It’s worth pointing out, however, that he noted that his surprise would be before this coming Monday night’s edition of WWE RAW.
The Rock took to social media recently to congratulate Kevin Owens on a great first year in WWE and to respond to a friendly challenge from Dolph Ziggler and Charlotte.
Rock posted this one regarding Owens’ debut year in WWE:
@FightOwensFight Mahalo my man. I know u know the joy lil' ones bring. Congrats on a helluva year w the company. Proud of ya. #SunsetFlips
The Rock also called Ziggler and Charlotte two of the best in-ring performers in WWE right now in response to the following photo Ziggler posted of himself and Charlotte, which contained a friendly challenge to The Rock and UFC star Ronda Rousey.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Mark Whalberg are being sued for allegedly stealing the idea for their show Ballers on HBO. The former WWE World Champion is an executive producer on the show with Whalberg.
A lawsuit was filed in federal court by Everette Silas and Sherri Littleon, saying they had the idea for a project called Off Season back in 2007. According to TMZ, they claim in 2009 they almost had a deal with Whalberg, Johnson and their manager to develop the project, but it fell apart. They say the reason it fell apart is because Silas and Littleton wanted to be credited as show creators.
Silas and Littleton listed several similarities between Off Season and Ballers, including the plot and location. They also say the title Ballers is ripped from one of their proposed episode titles.
The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages. A rep for HBO told TMZ the case “has no merit.”
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s long-time girlfriend Lauren Hashian gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday. The couple has been dating for nine years and this is their first child together. The Rock also has a 14-year-old daughter named Simone with ex-wife Dany Garcia.
Diamond Dallas Page recently spoke with Chris Featherstone for the Pancakes And Powerslams Show about his thoughts on The Rock, an idea for a “People’s Champion” angle and more. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.
On his idea for an angle with The Rock since they both had the “People’s Champion” moniker:
“First of all: I am the biggest Rock fan on the planet,” DDP said. “I love that he is the biggest star in the world right now, because he’s one of us. I met him in either 1999 or 2000. [He and Big Show] were wrestling in Canada, and we had a pay per view in Canada the night earlier. I went to the show, which nobody ever did. No one ever goes to the other guy’s show in WCW or [WWE], unless you were looking for a job. I wasn’t looking for a job. I just signed a multi-million dollar deal, so I wasn’t going anywhere. After the show, me and [Big Show] were getting ready to leave the building and he goes, ‘Do you want to meet The Rock?’ I said, ‘Sure. I’d love to.’ So we walked in the locker room and The Rock was there. We had a great talk. [He is] very humble. Rock has the ability to make you feel like you’re the only person in the room.
“I was quite a step or two over him, at that time, but Jake told me to keep an eye out on him, because is gonna be a huge star in our business; and that was when he was booked as Rocky Maivia in 1996. He said that this gimmick that he has right now is lame, but at some point he is going to break away from this and become a huge star. So I told Rock that story, and I said I’ve really been watching your career, and I love what’s happening with it, especially now. We shook hands, and as we were walking out, almost halfway down the hallway I hear, ‘Hey Diamond.’ Big Show gets out of my way, and I see him in the far corner of that locker room. He says to me – and I can see he’s rolling in the character – ‘Ya know, there’s only one People’s Champion.’ Big Show just about blew his guts out, he laughed so hard. I just stared at him. And I bet you I didn’t say anything for 15 seconds. And I said, ‘You know, Rock? You’re right. And you, my friend? Well, you’re looking at him!’ [Big] Show went, ‘Oh my God, you stuffed him! Nobody stuffs him!'”
On how that exchange inspired him to propose an idea for his WWE debut to his then-wife Kimberly Page:
“I woke her up and made her listen to me talk about how I was going to debut in the [WWE]. This isn’t now, but I am going to work a WrestleMania. I am going to end my career in the WWE. That’s just the way it is. I’ve never seen it any other way. I said here’s what’s gonna happen: they’re gonna cut all the lights in the building, and everybody is going to be for sure that it’s [Chris] Jericho. But it’s gonna go 15, 20, 30 seconds, no one says anything, people are grumbling. Jim Ross is saying ‘Hold on! Don’t change the channel. We’ve got some technical difficulties!’ And then, for the first time ever in a [WWE] arena, you hear my voice. Blacked out building. ‘Who’s the real “People’s Champion”‘? Spotlight hits me. ‘You’re lookin’ at him.’ Throw up the diamond cutter. Bang. I would have got boos, I would have got cheers out the building. Rock’s gonna be hurt, he’s gonna be out, so he can’t answer my challenge. But that’s how it’s gonna be. I’ll go to the ring, I’ll cut this promo on him and go on a rant until he gets there. Then we’ll start our promos. They’ll be unbelievable!”

The trailer for the movie will be released on Thursday.
– Speaking of wrestlers in movies, Deadline.com is reporting that The Rock has signed with New Line Cinema to star in a new action-comedy movie that will be co-produced by his company, Seven Bucks Productions. The movie will be directed by Will Gluck and written by Dave Callaham.

WWE Divas Champion Charlotte recently spoke with the News & Observer publication out of Raleigh, North Carolina to promote next Sunday’s WWE TLC pay-per-view in Boston, Massachusetts.
On blurring the line between fiction and reality:
“Having my dad in the business and using a lot of what’s been real life … most of Charlotte’s character is really who she is. A lot of who Ashley is is Charlotte and the same with my dad. It’s not like I’m the Joker.”
On being a role model for women:
“That’s probably the main focus – to be a role model for younger girls and send positive messages to never give up and be who they want to be. That’s a really big part of the job where you talk to kids at (places like) Make a Wish and have that opportunity to interact.”
On her future in WWE:
“I’m not 21 anymore and I’ve got a good head on my shoulders. I’m on cloud nine. I want to be the female Rock. Honestly I can’t believe I’m here today. Where I’m going to be in three years, I’m sure I’ll be blown away.”
The Rock’s production company, Seven Bucks Productions, issued the following press release on Thursday to announce the official details of their new show on the Fuse Network.
SEVEN BUCKS PRODUCTIONS AND 44 BLUE PRODUCTIONS TEAM UP FOR NEW SERIES GREENLIT BY FUSE NETWORK
New York, N.Y. and Los Angeles, Calif. – December 3, 2015 – Seven Bucks Productions, co-founded by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, in partnership with Emmy-nominated 44 Blue Productions today announced ‘Hard Corps’ (working title)(8×30) has been greenlit by Fuse. The network will add the new series to its slate of programs with Hiram Garcia serving as an executive producer for Seven Bucks Productions and Rasha Drachkovitch as the executive producer for 44 Blue Productions.
‘Hard Corps’ is a high octane docu-soap set in the competitive world of Drum Corps International. This cadence is set as the series follows two all-star teams, one in Pennsylviania and one in Northern California, who for the last 20 years, have been battling it out for the championship. Eat, sleep, band – repeat! Production began in November at locations throughout the United States as cameras capture the excitement, struggle and dedication of marching music’s major league. The series will culminate at the world championships in Indianapolis, Ind. August 2016.
“The entertainers have incredible tenacity, drive and a hard core commitment to excellence. Viewers will be on the edge of their seats seeing who comes out on top,” noted Johnson. “At Seven Bucks we are passionate about shining a light on the hardworking and the talented. This group of performers fall into both of those categories,” said Garcia.
Said Fuse Media President Bill Hilary, “The energy and competitive edge of Drum Corps is the perfect backdrop to celebrate music and performance with our rapidly expanding audience of culturally diverse New Young Americans.” He added, “‘Band on the run’ will have a whole new meaning once ‘Hard Corps’ hits our air. We look forward to working with Seven Bucks Productions and 44 Blue Productions on this series.”
‘Hard Corps’ will showcase the exciting intersection of music and sports,” said Rasha Drachkovitch, executive producer and co-founder/CEO of 44 Blue Productions. “With the complex routines and high stakes pressure of competition, this series is part ‘Bring It’ and part ‘Hard Knocks’ – with the intensity of ‘Whiplash’ — it will be sure to entertain and inspire.”

– Muscle & Fitness Magazine has named Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Man of the Century.
As of a week or two ago, there had been no real internal talk within WWE about booking Sting vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 in Texas next year. In fact, there hasn’t been any real talk of Sting appearing on the show at all, even though that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t end up appearing at the show.
As far as The Undertaker is concerned, it appears that WWE is going forward with the plans for an Undertaker vs. John Cena match at WrestleMania 32. The idea of Undertaker vs. Cena came up a few months ago and was seriously discussed in August, and then again in October.
As far as rumors of Seth Rollins vs. Triple H taking place at the big event, it’s said that a match between those two has never actually been considered for WrestleMania, although it’s possible that a HHH vs. Rollins match eventually happens when Rollins returns at some point down the line.
Currently, there is no word yet as to who Triple H will be facing at WrestleMania 32 now that it appears that The Rock will not be able to wrestle on the show as WWE had originally hoped.

As things stand right now, The Rock is not only unlikely to work a match on the show as was originally rumored after his appearance with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 31 earlier this year, but it’s considered doubtful that he will even be able to make an appearance at the show due to his movie schedule.
The latest word going around is that it would be difficult for The Rock to even appear at the show, although it was made clear that things could always change between now and the time WrestleMania 32 rolls around.
During the latest edition of his “Steve Austin Show – Unleashed!” podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin explained why WWE should turn Roman Reigns heel.
According to “The Rattlesnake,” Reigns has the size and the look to be a top guy in WWE, but should have a run as a heel before trying to take the top babyface spot in the company.
“I think Roman needs to be a heel. Go through that journey and then evolve into a babyface. To me, it’s almost going to mirror what the Rock did. [WWE] brought him in as a white meat baby. People hated him and they wanted to hate him. And then, all of a sudden, the Rock started taking over the Nation of Domination. He was the alpha male in that group. All of a sudden, the promo skills come alive. The character comes alive. The personality comes alive and he turned into the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Now, I don’t expect Roman Reigns to do that. I expect Roman Reigns to be Roman Reigns, but that’s the road that the Rock went down. I just think, organically, that’s the way it’s going to play out for Roman Reigns. Now, you can try to put him in that babyface spot, that number one spot, right now to see what happens and I’ll be very, very interested to see, if indeed, that’s what they do because I’m just waiting on the edge of my seat to see what happens.”
Austin also spoke about Cesaro’s progress as a performer, explaining that he thinks he will eventually put all of the pieces together and get over with the fans, but noting that WWE isn’t doing him any favors.
“I think the guy is just so damn good in the ring. I see eventually he will put all the pieces together, but [WWE is] not helping him any. He [has] got to put the pieces together to go up on top of the card. Cesaro, you have hopes for because he can do so much [and] he looks so good. He only speaks 17 languages! He can go all over the world and promote for [WWE], so there [has] got to be a way to get this guy figured in a little more and get his ass over.”
As noted, The Rock will be appearing as a guest on “Oprah’s Master Class” this Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST. on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). Another promotional clip from the show has been released, as seen above, and features The Rock talking about WWE.
The Rock spoke about feeling angst early into his WWE run due to the fact that he couldn’t be himself.
“I remember I had great angst every night before I went out, because I was not able to be myself,” said The Rock.
He also commented on getting booed as a babyface at his first WrestleMania event:
He continued, describing the time he appeared at his first-ever WrestleMania as a babyface and was booed by the fans, noting it was when he realized he needed to make some changes.
“It was a sobering moment,” said The Rock. “And that was the beginning of the end of my initial run in the WWE. A few weeks later, I tore a tendon in my knee, and I was out for the rest of the summer. I came to the realization before I went back that it wasn’t me, personally, that they didn’t like. It was that I wasn’t being me.”
The Rock said while he was on the sidelines recovering, he received a call from Vince McMahon suggesting that he turn heel when he returned.
“He said, ‘When you come back, we could continue to shove you down people’s throats or we could turn you heel because they want to boo you anyway,'” Rock said. “I said, ‘I think it’s a great idea.'”
“About a month later, I was the hottest heel in the company and things were on fire,” said The Rock. “And the greatest lesson about that is be you. … The most powerful thing you can be is yourself.”
For another preview of The Rock’s appearance on “Oprah’s Master Class,” which features Rock talking about his battle with depression and his transition from WWE to Hollywood, click here.
– In addition to The Undertaker and The Rock, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon took to social media for the third time in one day on Thursday to send congratulations to former WWE Champion Batista on the success of the new James Bond “007: Spectre” film, which co-stars Batista as the character “Mr. Hinx.” You can check out McMahon’s comments via the following tweet:
– The Rock posted a “Throwback Thursday (TBT)” photo and blog on his official Instagram account on Thursday honoring WWE Hall Of Famer Pat Patterson. The Rock wrote the following, which was accompanied by the below photo of the two talking together backstage at a past WWE event.
“#TBT 2013 becoming #WWE Heavyweight Champion for the 8th time. First person to congratulate me backstage was WWE Hall of Famer and close family friend Pat Patterson – one of the greatest mentors I’ve ever had in the world of sports entertainment.
At 23yrs old I called Pat and told him I was training to get into the business. He said “What business?”. I said “the wrestling business”. He said with great clarity, “Why the f–k would you want to do that?”. He eventually agreed to come watch one of my ring workouts in Tampa, and after the session I said “Do you think I have what it takes?”. He simply said “Just keep working”. He immediately went home and called Vince McMahon and said “Vince you gotta see this kid, I think he can be great one day”. One week later I had my very first tryout match for the WWE in Corpus Christi, TX in front of 15,000 people.
Pat has been instrumental in creating some of the greatest storylines (Rock vs Austin, Rock vs HHH) and matches of my entire career and I’m forever grateful for his guidance and knowledge. He’s also responsible for dropping the greatest lines ever… in this picture he literally said “My God Rock when you won the title tonight the people went f–kING BANANA!” For some reason he always forgets the “s”. #PatPatterson #Legend #Mentor #Grateful”
Vince McMahon was a little busier than usual on social media on Thursday afternoon. The WWE Chairman posted comments about The Undertaker’s appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” from Wednesday night, as well as a congratulatory message directed towards The Rock, who announced earlier this week that he and his girlfriend are expecting their first child.
Regarding The Undertaker’s appearance on Fallon on Wednesday, McMahon tweeted the following:
WWE legend turned Hollywood megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be appearing on ‘Oprah’s Master Class’ this Sunday (11/15) on the Oprah Winfrey Network network. Oprah.com has released some quotes from the interview, providing fascinating insight on The Rock’s battle with depression and his decision to transition from pro wrestling to movies.
After playing football for the University of Miami and winning a national championship with them in 1991, The Rock failed to be drafted by an NFL team. He played in the Canadian Football League for a stretch, but was eventually let go by his team, the Calgary Stampeders. At 23, he found himself living in his parents small apartment and battling depression.
“I found that with depression one of the most important things you could realize is that you’re not alone. You’re not the first to go through it,” he says. “I wish I had someone at that time who could just pull me aside and [say], ‘Hey, it’s going to be okay.'”
About a month and a half later, he got a phone call from the head coach who had let him go from the Calgary Stampeders offering him a chance to rejoin the team. He declined because his gut told him he was done with football. He told his father Rocky Johnson that he wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a pro wrestler. His father told him it giving up on football was the biggest mistake of his life, but The Rock felt in his heart that he had to give wrestling a shot.
After a Hall of Fame worthy career and becoming an international superstar in WWE, The Rock walked away from wrestling in 2004 to embark on another new career.
“When I was at the height of my career, I felt for the very first time that I was close to accomplishing everything that I was close to accomplishing in wrestling. So, I quietly walked away,” he said.
“It kind of shook me a little bit because wrestling was all I knew at the time. I had dabbled in acting (The Mummy), but I also felt that I wanted to do more. I wanted to achieve more. I wanted to grow. I wanted to grow as a person. I wanted to reach as many people as people as possible. Not for the box office value of it, but the connection. I had come from a world where I was connecting with an audience every night. And, I wanted that connection.”
The Rock wasn’t looking to cash in on his fame from wrestling, make a few movies and move on. He planned to learn the film industry inside and out and has gone on to become one of the highest grossing action stars in history.
Oprah’s Masters Class airs on the OWN Network Sunday nights at 8pm EST.
With WrestleMania 32 less than 5 months away, let’s take a look at where the card stands in light of a bunch of recent developments.
Originally, the top few matches were slated to be:
Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker
The Rock vs. Triple H
John Cena vs. Roman Reigns
The Rock will not be competing at WrestleMania due to his movie schedule and more specifically, movie studios having major concerns about whether they’d be able to get insurance for The Rock if he was to get back in the ring. Then things were looking like this:
Seth Rollins vs. Triple H
Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker
John Cena vs. Roman Reigns
At some point the decision was made to jump right into Lesnar vs. Undertaker at Hell in a Cell, apparently with the assumption that Vince McMahon had decided on alternate opponents for both men. Of course, Seth Rollins’ ACL/MCL surgery will keep him out of action well past WrestleMania, so he’s out of the mix now as well.
As of this week, these are the top two matches currently planned for WrestleMania 32 (via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter):
