Jim Ross Q&A: Austin vs. Punk In WWE, Owen Hart In WWE HOF?, Politics In WWE

The following are highlights from a recent Q&A with WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On rumors that he was drunk at the WWE 2K14 symposium: “I wasn’t but thanks for asking.”

On Daniel Bryan not holding the WWE Championship for any real length of time: “I think Bryan is more popular today than he ever has been. I’ll enjoy the chase.”

On whether or not Bill Watts ever owned a part of Georgia Championship Wrestling, and talent-sharing in those days: “WATTS at one time owned a piece of Georgia. Talent trades were not unusual in those days either way. JYD & others wrestled in Atlanta.”

On what The Undertaker’s reaction was following the infamous Hell In A Cell match at King Of The Ring 1998: “That was 15 years ago. I really don’t recall. He was likely spent.”

On chances of a Steve Austin vs. CM Punk match in WWE: “Seems like that ship has sailed but I’m merely guessing. I’d love to see it.”

On politics in WWE: “I think politics are overrated and discussed usually on hearsay & by disgruntled individuals. Cream always rises to the top w/ few exceptions.”

On the subject of wrestling newsletters back in the day: “Newsletters weren’t a big topic of open discussion back in the day. Most guys tried to distance themselves from wrestling while traveling.”

On who will replace John Cena as the face of WWE and if a “streak” storyline would work: “I’d say Daniel Bryan is next man up. Don’t see Streak launching a new face of WWE.”

On if Owen Hart will ever be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame: “Likely so. Don’t know when.”

On the career of “Rugged” Ronnie Garvin: “Ronnie was a tough, highly skilled, intelligent in ring talent. Also a pilot. I thought the sharpshooter was a Japanese submission.”

On past WWE Divas in the new WWE 2K14 video game: “I’m not aware of the Diva involvement. Sorry.”

Jim Ross Q&A: The Shield Breaking Up, Wyatt’s In-Ring Ability, U.S./I-C Title Unification

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross has once again updated the Q&A section of his official website. Below are highlights:

On Goldberg’s new DVD and a match between he and The Undertaker: “The compliation Goldberg DVD will do good. I’ve not seen it but likely will check it out. Goldberg vs. Taker in their heyday would have been nice. Who wins would have depended on where and when it was but I’d lean toward Taker.”

On whether or not JR will ever start his own podcast: “Likely not. Too much work. :) Not enough money.”

On Bray Wyatt’s in-ring ability: “Many of us have seen him wrestle a great deal in NXT. He’s a keeper.”

On his favorite Mid-South Wrestling angles: “Had many favorites and am looking forward to the Mid South DVD WWE is releasing on Sept 10. Ted [DiBiase] and [Junkyard] Dog were hard to beat.”

On one-legged wrestler Zach Gowen’s WWE run: “He had great heart and passion.”

On Dean Ambrose’s potential when The Shield eventually breaks up: “The goal is always for any entity to have more sizzle and potential when they split and become single stars. Ambrose will be interesting to follow along with Rolins and Reigns.”

On if he feels the U.S. and Intercontinental Titles should be unified: “I don’t see the value in doing so. It’s not hard to make them both mean more.”

Jim Ross Q&A: Benoit/WWE HOF, Undertaker’s WCW Days, Cena’s Character

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated the Q&A section of JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

An Off-Season for WWE: “I do not think that an off season is necessary in our biz. I do think that giving talents ample off time is imperative along with strict adherence to the Wellness Policy and stellar PT for injuries.”

Why Undertaker Left WCW In 1990: “WCW was underpaying him and undervaluing his worth and potential. Great ‘get’ by WWE obviously”

Dudley Boyz Promos from ECW: “Good, old school, effective promos.”

The Best In-ring Storytellers: “Too many to mention. There have been tons of great one’s. It’s a vague, subjective question, with no right or wrong answer.”

The Need to Sound Excited On Commentary During Boring Matches: “One has to be creative and not try to sell something that isn’t there. Overselling something is not a good thing. Every facet of a broadcast will never be ‘great.’ ”

WWE Not Properly Hyping PPV Undercards: “Those are a production or creative issue. Times change. I don’t know why that was gone away from but it is what it is.”

Chris Benoit In The WWE Hall of Fame? “I do not think that Benoit will ever be inducted into the WWE HOF.”

John Cena Not Selling The Effects Of His PPV Matches: “How John Cena is booked is not an issue to me whatsoever.”.

Backstage Update On Major Last-Minute Changes Made To WWE SummerSlam

Steve Austin’s Rumored WrestleMania XXX Opponent, Undertaker’s Status

– The Undertaker had been rumored for a possible match at this year’s SummerSlam, but those plans are now off. The Undertaker is currently recovering from recent shoulder surgery and at this point, it’s doubtful whether he’ll be healthy in time for WrestleMania XXX next April.

– Speaking of WrestleMania XXX, speculation continues that WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin will return for one more match at the event.  In the event that WWE and Steve Austin can reach a deal for him to appear – the current plan is for Steve Austin to wrestle his former tag team championship partner (and heated adversary): Triple H.

A Steve Austin vs. Triple H feud would be an extension of the storied Austin vs. McMahon Family feud and would involve Triple H turning heel.

  • COMMENT BELOW and tell is if you like the idea of Steve Austin vs Triple H at WrestleMania XXX, or if you’d rather see Austin wrestle CM Punk (or someone else).

The Undertaker Talks About Why He Continues Wrestling

WWE legend The Undertaker recently took part in a rare out-of-character interview with The Houston Chronicle to promote SpurRaffle.com. After undergoing a series of surgeries over the past few years, the Dead Man explained why he continues to wrestle.

“Honestly, I love it, that’s why. I’ve got 26 years in the business and all these injuries, but WrestleMania has become so huge, it’s just hard to walk away from it. I want the audience leaving the stadium going ‘Wow!’ It’s a responsibility I have being a top dog in this business. The crowd will let me know when it’s time to leave. They haven’t yet.”

He also revealed that he agrees to wrestle at WrestleMania each year because he wants to please Vince McMahon.

“If I didn’t perform at WrestleMania, in some strange weird way, I’d feel like I was letting Vince McMahon down.”

What does the Undertaker do when he’s away form television for extended periods of time?

“I spend a lot of time with my family, my children. I also work on my horrible golf game. I love golf, but I’m awful. For some reason, I go out there and make myself miserable because I’m so bad it. But most of my time is spent healing up … so I can be the Undertaker again.”

Plans For The Undertaker’s Return, Rumored Matches For SummerSlam

With WWE Payback taking place this Sunday, planning is already underway for the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view on 8/18.

Over the weekend, WWE was discussing the possibility of The Undertaker wrestling on the show, teaming up with Kane against WWE Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns of The Shield. If Undertaker does not commit to wrestle, the match will likely be Randy Orton & Sheamus vs. The Shield.

Other matches in the works for SummerSlam:

* WWE Champion John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan
* Big E Langston vs. Big Show or Mark Henry
* US Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Rey Mysterio

Aside from those SummerSlam matches, WWE is looking at Randy Orton vs. Ryback and Rey Mysterio vs. Jack Swagger as feuds for this summer.

Sting Talks About Jumping to WWE & Facing Undertaker At WrestleMania

During a recent interview with the VOC Nation Radio Network to promote his appearance at this weekend’s “Legends of the Ring” convention in Monroe, NJ, TNA star Sting spoke about the possibility of jumping to WWE and wrestling The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30:

“It’s no secret. I’ve always wanted to wrestle Undertaker; I’ve said that for years. And who would not want to work WrestleMania?”

Sting had talks with WWE two years ago about joining the company, but a deal never materialized:

“I do an annual contract every year and the rumors start right around January. The year that they did the (black and white) vignettes (in 2011), I had nothing to do with it and I had no conversations with the WWE at that time. Shortly afterward there were conversations (with WWE) just by happenstance but nothing official.”

Even though a moe to WWE seems unlikely after all these years, he did say that it felt as if his TNA Hall of Fame induction last year was TNA’s way of “putting me out to pasture,” despite TNA president Dixie Carter saying that is “absolutely not” the case.

When asked about which TNA stars he’d like to work with, he listed Magnus, James Storm and Samoa Joe.

Undertaker & Jake Roberts In The WWE HOF? Christian’s Return & More

[wweshop]- With the late Paul Bearer considered to be a lock for next year’s WWE Hall of Fame class, there is already speculation that The Undertaker will be inducted along with him. Going back several years, the plan has always been for them to be inducted together. According to f4wonline.com, Jake “The Snake” Roberts is also a potential inductee for next year.

– The latest on Christian’s return is that he’ll be back soon after Extreme Rules. He’s been medically cleared to wrestle for months now, but his return has been delayed due to the creative team not having anything for him.

Possible Match For The Undertaker At SummerSlam, Miz’s Return, Helms-WWE

– WWE officials are interested in booking The Undertaker & Kane vs. The Shield at SummerSlam, however it will all depend on whether the Dead Man is willing to participate.

– The reason The Miz was not at Monday’s RAW is that he was finishing filming the WWE Studios movie The Christmas Bounty. He is scheduled to return at next week’s RAW from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

– Former WWE star Shane Helms was backstage visiting at Tuesday night’s SmackDown tapings from Raleigh, North Carolina:

Paul Bearer Considered A Lock For The 2014 WWE Hall of Fame

Word going around backstage at Monday’s RAW was that the late Paul Bearer is the first name locked in for the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame.

Now the discussion is shifting to who will induct Paul Bearer – with virtually everybody suggesting that he should be inducted by The Undertaker. The Dead Man never  appears at the Hall of Fame ceremonies (because he is very protective of his character) – but is expected to induct his close friend.  Another name brought up for Bearer’s inductor is Michael “PS” Hayes.

With Paul Bearer getting inducted next year – it seems highly unlikely that WWE will induct another (equally deserving) deceased performer, Randy Savage.

WWE Confirms Undertaker vs. Ambrose Airing On SmackDown, Parody WWE 2K14 Box Art

– WWE confirmed on this week’s Main Event broadcast that the Undertaker vs. Dean Ambrose match taped at the end of Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings will in fact air on Friday’s SmackDown broadcast. There had been a lot of confusion as to whether the match was a dark match or not.

It’s worth noting that this will be the first time a member of The Shield wrestles a singles match on WWE TV.

– Stephanie McMahon revealed on Twitter earlier this month that The Rock will be on the cover of the new WWE 2K14 video game, due out this fall. While the official box artwork has not yet been revealed, the @WWEGames Twitter account tweeted the following image, playing off The Rock’s surgery from earlier this week:

“Hey @TheRock, what do you think about this for a #WWE2K14 cover? Wishing you a speedy recovery!”

Update On Undertaker vs. Dean Ambrose & If It Will Air On SmackDown

There are conflicting reports about the Undertaker vs. Dean Ambrose match that took place at the end of Tuesday’s London SmackDown tapings.

Initially, fan reports that were being sent in (and Twitter activity) indicated that the match was the non-televised dark match main event. Plus, the Undertaker’s appearance was promoted in advance as a “London Exclusive” – another sign that it was for the live crowd only.

However, other fans who were in attendance stated that the match was probably taped for Friday’s SmackDown broadcast, since a graphic aired on the big screen earlier in the show hyping the match and WWE announcers were still ringside calling the action.

It’s still unclear at this point where the TV taping concluded and WWE has not yet acknowledged that Undertaker will be competing on Friday’s show.

We’ll post an update when more details become available. In the event that the match does air on television, we apologize for “spoiling” the result for fans who try to avoid spoilers.

Photos – Undertaker vs. Dean Ambrose At London SmackDown Tapings

At Tuesday’s WWE SmackDown tapings from London, England, The Undertaker made a rare in-ring appearance, wrestling The Shield member Dean Ambrose. It’s still unclear at this time whether the match will air on SmackDown or was a dark match main event, but here’s an in-person from SEScoops.com correspondent Jen Lee of Dean-ambrose.net:

The commentators (I could hear them) kept going right up until, after powerbombing Taker through the announce desk, Ambrose started yelling at him. At that point JBL and Cole left and things seemed to clear out while The Shield ‘celebrated’ and went back in to the ring. Pretty much the only people left after that were Lilian and one camera guy, the others were done. Thats when the Outlaws and Triple H came out, cleared out The Shield and went to pick up Taker from the wreckage. There was a funny spot after that where they walked up the ramp, stopped by the Taxi at the top and opened the door as if to put Taker in it. He just glared and they closed it again.

But yeah, it was still full systems go all the way up to Ambrose yelling after the powerbomb. 3 cameras, 2 photographers, commentators shouting. Heard most of it. So I’d say it’s getting aired. They also showed a graphic several times through the night for it, and Ambrose did a backstage promo talking about taking out Undertaker ‘tonight’.

Undertaker Had Knee Surgery Before WrestleMania, Flair Attends Masters Party

– The Undertaker reportedly underwent minor knee surgery a few weeks prior to his WrestleMania 29 match against CM Punk. The operation was described as a “simple cleanup,” according to prowrestling.net. Undertaker has undergone shoulder, hip and knee surgeries in recent years, but was said to be in good shape following WrestleMania.

– Prior to attending Monday’s RAW, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair attended Hootie & The Blowfish’s “Monday After The Masters” party. Flair tweeted this picture of himself with his agents from the Legacy Talent agency:

Jim Ross Q&A: Undertaker At WMXXX, Austin’s WWE Status, Paige & Summer Rae

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated the Q&A Section of JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some of the highlights:

Steve Austin’s Lack of Presence On WWE A Sign He’s Not Into Wrestling Anymore?

“You couldn’t be more wrong. Steve loves the wrestling business and the fans. Just showing up to make an obligatory appearance on RAW makes no sense. There needs to be a reason to be there and when all the creative forces converge I’m sure that he will be making the occasional appearance. He is busy…he has a new job…some fans simply don’t get it. Hopefully you ‘re not one of them.”

Will The Undertaker Be At WrestleMania XXX & Will It Be His Final Match?

“Don’t know about last ride, retirement, etc but I do think that Taker wrestles at WM30 in New Orleans. Opponent to be determined. ”

The Miz’s 24-Hour IC Title Reign:

“No issues here…it made for some unpredictable TV. I hope the IC Title is made to be more important.”

NXT Divas Paige & Summer Rae Getting Called Up:

“When the two ladies you spoke of are ready they will be called up. I think both need more time in NXT. Life on the road is hard and takes preparation. Let’s allow them to improve and better prepare for the grueling road schedule that awaits them. There is no hurry.”

CM Punk Talks About Wrestling The Undertaker At WrestleMania

CM Punk was recently interviewed by Marvel.com to promote WrestleMania 29. Here are the highlights of what he said about:

Wrestling In Front Of The WrestleMania Crowd:

“I think it was lost on me after my first four or five WrestleMania [appearances]. Last year I really slowed it down and took it all in. It’s a lot of people out there and that ramp was a long way. So I started to a lot of mental snapshots to remember the moment. Because it’s not something you get to do every day. It’s huge, it makes you realize how big the thing is; they are there to see you so not only am I amped up [but] ready to put on a show. I also tell that fun is very important aspect of what I do, and it can get lost a lot of the time. So I look to have a whole lot of fun at WrestleMania.

Facing The Undertaker:

“Well yeah, I mean a match against the Undertaker any other day of the year is still a big deal but not as big of a deal when you’ve got the opportunity to do that nobody’s been able to do for over 20 years this week at WrestleMania.”

Stephanie’s Role At WM29, CM Punk Teasing DQ Finish Against Undertaker, Booker T Heel Turn

– Stephanie McMahon might wind up in her husband Triple H’s corner for his No Holds Barred match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 29. Stephanie would be there to even the odds (with Heyman in Lesnar’s corner), so it appears there could be more to the recent video of her boxing and saying she’s “coming to get” Paul Heyman.

– With less than two weeks to go until WrestleMania 29, there’s been talk that the build to CM Punk vs. Undertaker will include CM Punk trying to end the Undertaker’s streak by pushing the Undertaker into getting himself disqualified. Punk has already stated on WWE television that the Streak does not have to end in a pinfall or submission.

– WWE officials have discussed turning Booker T heel after he’s inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
