Tonight (Mon. July 23, 2018) we find out who will go on to SummerSlam to take on Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Title – Roman Reigns or Bobby Lashley. Last week on Monday Night RAW both Reigns and Lashley won their respective Triple Threat matches.
Now they will face off on tonight’s edition of RAW, with the winner going to SummerSlam in attempt to dethrone “The Beast.” Reigns recently took to Twitter and talked about getting to spend some quality time with his daughter in Los Angeles this week.
With all that behind him now, he says he’s ready for Lashley tonight and declared he’ll be the one going to SummerSlam – and he’s going to beat Brock Lesnar:
Got to spend the week with my daughter at the #ESPYs and #KidsChoiceSports Awards this week in LA…but now it’s time to get to my ring and take back what’s mine. I’m going to #SummerSlam. I’m facing Brock. #Raw
Four teams will compete in a tournament on SmackDown Live to determine SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers’ next opponents for the straps. One of those teams is none other than former SDL Tag Team Champs The Usos.
Jimmy and Jey posted the following video message to The Bludgeon Brothers from WWE’s official Twitter account backstage from a Springfield live event:
Earlier this week, Smackdown General Manager Paige announced a tag-team tournament. The winners will receive a title shot against the Bludgeon Brothers. She has now released the names of the 4 teams which will be participating in the tournament.
The Usos, New Day, Sanity, and the Bar are all entered. The most notable team not included in the tournament is Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows. A possible reason the team wasn’t included in the tournament is that they have already lost two title matches on television to the current champions.
Smackdown Tag Team Division vs Raw Tag Team Division
Although the SD tag division consists of fewer teams than Raw’s, it arguably has the stronger ones. New Day are the longest reigning tag champions of all-time, the Usos are arguably the hottest tag-team on the roster, and Cesaro and Sheamus are multi-time champions as well.
Meanwhile, on Raw, the titles are currently held by Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. The B-Team defeated the Deleter of Worlds at Extreme Rules for the belts. Other Raw tag-teams include the Revival, the Authors of Pain, Ascension, Titus Worldwide, and Breezeango.
Paige As Smackdown General Manager
Paige took over as Smackdown General Manager on the first episode after WrestleMania. The night before on Raw, Paige announced she was not medically cleared to compete. It’s possible she never competes in a WWE ring again but she doesn’t seem to be abandoning hope.
Prior to Paige’s appointment, the show had been run by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. After Bryan’s reinstatement as a wrestler, however, he stepped down as brand GM. Shane McMahon stepped away from the role after WrestleMania as well, citing his problems with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens as a reason why.
Former WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos have been a core element of the sports entertainment company for years now.
The Usos have been five-time tag team champions. By breaking this down, WWE Tag Team Championship twice in 2014, SmackDown Tag Team Champions on three different occasions in 2017. They were the first team to win both the Raw Tag Team Championship and SmackDown Tag Team Championship, which was previously known as WWE Tag Team Championship. Although they started out as babyfaces, they became stale and knew that a change had to be made. Thus, they turned heel.
During a recent interview Fox 45 News to promote this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Baltimore, MD at the Royal Farms Arena on the USA Network, Jimmy discussed how they do not play a character on television. “Our characters – we’re lucky – we basically get to just be us out there. Some guys actually have to be somebody [else] or a character. I’m glad we get to be us, so that works. It’s easy, because it’s real.” “We are the longest reigning tag team ever in WWE History. … Four brothers, we grew up beating each other up, watching my Dad and family on TV. Breaking coffee tables, putting holes in walls, jumping off couches, it’s natural [being in the ring].”
One-half of the Smackdown tag-team champions, the Bludgeon Brothers, is taunting their rivals on social media. 38-year-old, Luke Harper, took time away from his normal social media routine to send a message to the Usos and Jimmy Uso’s wife, Naomi.
Normally, Harper sends out a daily Tweet similar to this:
The below screenshot of Harper’s Twitter feed shows this is usually all he does on Twitter:
Today, however, Harper decided to use his Twitter account to send a message to Naomi and the Usos. Harper commented on the real-life relationship between the couple:
It appears as though the storyline between the Bludgeon Brothers and the Usos will involve some real-life elements, including the real-life relationship between Jimmy Uso and Naomi. It’s unlikely the Bludgeon Brothers show up on Total Divas, however. The angle seems to be leading to a long-awaited Usos babyface turn as well.
WWE cameras caught Naomi and the Usos backstage on Tuesday:
the Bludgeon Brothers vs. the Usos and Smackdown’s Tag-Team Division
The Smackdown tag-team division is arguably the deeper of the two brands at the moment. With Anderson & Gallows and the Bar joining Smackdown from Raw, it creates a log-jam at the top of the division.
With the Usos and the Bludgeon Brothers feuding over the titles, that leaves the New Day, the Bar, and Anderson & Gallows all vying to be declared the next challengers. Sanity has also been called up to Smackdown as well. Eric Young, Killian Dain, and Alexander Wolfe could be inserted into the tag division too.
In the Superstar Shakeup, Smackdown gained two former tag-team championship winning teams and gave up the Ascension and Breezeango. Not a bad deal for Shane McMahon and Paige!
The Bludgeon Brothers are scheduled to defend their newly won Smackdown tag-team championships against the Usos. The match will take place at the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27th, 2018 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It will be their first televised title defense since winning the belts at WrestleMania 34.
One of the most talented tag teams on the WWE’s roster right now is none other than SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Usos – and Paul Heyman has taken notice. In a recent interview with NBC Sports, where he also explained how Cody Rhodes’ success outside WWE parallels Steve Austin, Heyman expressed his high praise for the sons of WWE Hall Of Famer Rikishi:
“That’s on them. The Usos are a great example, a GREAT example. The Usos were always frustrated because they always felt that they could be the defining tag team of this generation. They didn’t just want to put on good matches, they didn’t just want to have a catchy entrance tune, they didn’t want to just look good on pay-per-view and on television, the Usos wanted the opportunity to be the defining tag team of this generation.
“They tried all of these different ways to get to that level until finally they just came out of the box with their promos and their promos now are so innovative, so progressive, so ahead of everyone else’s that they are now truly in my opinion now have an argument to say, they are not only the best tag team in WWE right now, but certainly of the last decade and could certainly wind up being the best tag team of all time.”

– Ring Of Honor (ROH) and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) stars The Young Bucks – Nick and Matt Jackson – noted on Twitter that they want to have a match with SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Usos. Nick Jackson actually revealed that they faced The Usos in an impromptu match 7-8 years ago, which The Usos won:
Yes we wrestled @WWEUsos once literally on the fly. William Regal called us into the ring before a show and the match started right there. https://t.co/8YuOwuGexX

WWE SmackDown Tag Team champions The Usos recently spoke with Pensacola News Journal to promote WrestleMania 34, which is slated to take place on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
This event airs on pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network. It’s the most successful and longest-running professional wrestling event in history. Both Raw and SmackDown rosters will be featured.
The Usos have never wrestled on the main card of the biggest event of the year for the sports entertainment company. However, they are holding out hope.
“I don’t think it could happen, it’s gonna happen. Me and my bro keep saying, ‘This is the year,'” said Jey Uso in a recent phone interview with the News Journal. “And if for some reason we’re not on the main card, we’re doing the people wrong, man. The WWE Universe ain’t getting their money’s worth. We’re the best thing running right now, straight out the 8-5-0, right down the street from WrestleMania, man.”
“This year is probably hands down one of our hottest years,” said Jimmy Uso. “WrestleMania changes by the hour, by the minute, so I’m nervous about it.” The Usos have been five-time tag team champions.
“The heel change would have never worked if that baby face phase didn’t go as long as it did,” Jey Uso said, referring to their seven-year run as good guys. “The heel change just made it more real. We get to be us, we could talk the way we want to, dress the way we want to, it was like the ball was in our court now. And it took a lot of hard work to finally get the ball, you feel me?”
– Hurricane Helms’ appearance at the Royal Rumble last month may only be the beginning of his WWE return. Shortly after the Rumble appearance Helms had this to say:
“If that was my last time in a WWE ring, and I don’t think it will be, to have probably the loudest pop of my career, what a way to come full circle.”
Current 205 Live star Daivari posted a Tweet to promote his match against Buddy Murphy last night, announcing his intentions to go on and win the Cruiserweight Championship. Helms responded by telling Daivari to keep the title warm for him, indicating he may soon be joining 205 Live:
– SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Usos recently took part in a conference call for Catch Au Quotidien. During the call they were asked about New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) stars The Young Bucks. This caught the attention of Matt Jackson of The Bucks, who said he’d love to work with the SDL Tag Team Champs in the future:
The New Day defeated Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin on tonight’s WWE SmackDown to become the new #1 contenders to SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos.
The New Day will get their title shot at the March 11th WWE Fastlane pay-per-view from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH.

– Shinsuke Nakamura reveals why he chose AJ Styles as his ideal opponent at WrestleMania 34 after The King of Strong Style finally “did it” in the 2018 Men’s Royal Rumble Match.
SmackDown Live Superstar Jey Uso was arrested on Sunday in Hidalgo, Texas. WWE was in town for a live event at the State Farm Arena.
Jey Uso (real name Joshua Fatu) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and was released after posting a $500 bond. A DWI charge in Texas comes when a suspect registers a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08 percent or greater.
WWE’s talent wellness policy states that performers should not consume alcohol within 12 hours prior to an event. There is no official policy regarding alcohol consumption after shows or alcohol-related arrests.
WWE issued the following statement regarding Jey Uso’s arrest:
“Joshua Fatu is responsible for his own personal actions. We are investigating the matter and awaiting information from local law enforcement officials.”
Jey and brother Jimmy are the reigning SmackDown tag team champions, their 5th title reign in WWE.
WWE.com has revealed two matches for tonight’s Smackdown. The show will emanate from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable will receive a Smackdown tag-team championship match against the Usos. Gable & Benjamin received a title shot against the Usos on the November 7th, 2017 edition of Smackdown and won via count-out.
Smackdown Tag-Team Division
The tag division on Tuesday nights has seen an influx of new teams. After the division had been largely dominated by the Usos and the New Day, several other teams are now in the mix as well.
Rusev & Aiden English recently pinned the champions in a non-title match, the Bludgeon Brothers are undefeated since returning, and Gable & Benjamin could easily be in-line for a push as well.

– RAW Tag Team Champion Cesaro and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos tweeted the following as The Usos prepare to face The Bar at tonight’s WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view:
Tag Team Championships. We’ve always been about it. The Usos usually only care about two colors: money green and title gold.
hUCEton you have a problem… tomorrow at #SurvivorSeries you’re facing the best tag team in the 🌎 BAR none. Sincerely, the A Team from the A show. We are #TheBar#BleedRed#RAW
WWE just announced that The Usos will invoke their rematch clause and will once again face the New Day at WWE Hell in a Cell on October 8th.
Dasha Fuentes caught up with The Usos backstage and asked them why they chose to invoke their rematch clause at Hell in a Cell. The Usos stated that they wanted to become 5 time WWE Tag Team Champions and were sick of New Day running around with the titles like it was a joke. The Usos said that they are not laughing and are determined to get their titles back after losing them last week on SmackDown.
The New Day recaptured the SmackDown Tag Team Championships last week on SmackDown by defeating The Usos in a Street Fight. Kofi and Big E connected with the Midnight Hour onto Jimmy Uso for the pinfall victory.
Here is the card as of now for WWE Hell in a Cell on October 8th:
As we noted before, Mr McMahon returned to SmackDown Live this week and announced that Kevin Owens will face Shane McMahon in a Hell In A Cell match at the upcoming PPV of the same name.
Though now it appears that it won’t be the only match taking place inside the infamous steel structure at the upcoming SmackDown exclusive PPV.
According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE is planning another Hell In a Cell match between The New Day and The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
It’s worth noting here that there is no mention of the WWE Championship match taking place inside the Steel Structure on the official page for the Hell In A Cell PPV on WWE.com and it’s speculated that the match will not be contested inside the cage.
So if WWE does plan to make the Tag Title Match a Hell In A Cell bout, it would be the second match to take place inside the Cell at the next SmackDown PPV.
Considering the performance of both these teams in their last few encounters, it looks to be the right choice to have their next match take place inside the unforgiving steel structure.
SmackDown Live Superstars The Usos recently appeared on Edge and Christian’s E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness podcast.
Here are some highlights of what Jimmy and Jey said about:
Working with American Alpha and hoping to work with Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable:
“We had a match with American Alpha. Like, we had a nice little run with them, but it got kind of cut short. We [were] tearing it up with those guys. I got in the ring with Gable and I was like, ‘holy hell! You can rip my arms off if you wanted to!’ It’s ridiculous.”
The World’s Greatest Tag-Team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas) taking liberties with them when they were rookies:
“Man, me personally, it’ll be interesting with this brand new tag team that just got here last week, Shelton and Gable. I said them because I ain’t never been in the ring with Shelton and our first practice, our first, like, ‘hey, you guys are wrestling – we’re getting you in the gym right now’ was Shelton and Charlie Haas, [they] dragged me and my brother to a 24 Hour Fitness, the first day, in Houston, Texas, before a contract, before even learning how to bump and they killed us in the gym, like, murdered us like mad men! And they did it on purpose to where you couldn’t even move. I was like, ‘holy hell!’ But I’ll never forget that and the second day, I was scared to go in the gym. It was the first time of being legit scared to go into a gym, man!
“The first time we ever locked up with Charlie Haas it was like a soft lockup. He was like, ‘do it again.’ We went to lock up again [and] ‘boom’, snot came out our nose, ‘this is how you lock up.’ I was like, ‘what the? I don’t think I want to do this.’ Man, he gave me one of the hardest arm drags. I set in for an arm drag and he snapped me so fast, man.’ I was like, ‘okay.’ Now, I knew what I was getting into.”
WWE SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Usos recently joined former WWE Tag Team Champ Edge and Christian’s podcast, E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, to talk about their run through WWE. During their conversation, The Usos were asked about turning heel and how they felt about it. Here’s what they had to say:
“We couldn’t wait to turn heel. We noticed when we were doing the babyface run, it was coo, it was a whole other side of us, being the good guy and running with that. And then, if you don’t adapt and evolve in this business, you’ll get left behind, and we felt that. We started to feel it, something has to be done, we gotta change something. And then, [we were told], ‘tonight we’re gonna turn them heel.’ We finally got to do that and when we did, we knew that this was gonna be the time, and this was really gonna be our breakout.
“This is really gonna be who we are. The babyface Usos, that was us too, but this is really gonna be who we are. We from the Anoa’i family. Samoan family wrestling. They naturally work like heels. And I feel like we naturally work like heels. So it’s way easier, more comfortable, [we actually] get to talk crap to somebody, we barely got to talk when we were babyfaces. We’re glad we made this move.”
The Usos call out Rollins & Ambrose, Rollins responds
SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos and RAW Tag Champs Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose have been trading shots at WWE Live Events over the past couple of days. The banter started a few days ago when The Usos responded to the following tweet from WWE:
The Usos then talked some more trash at last night’s SmackDown Live Event in Baton Rouge. The Usos said that Rollins and Ambrose may be the best team on RAW, but The Usos are the best tag team period. The Usos then challenged Ambrose and Rollins to show up to SmackDown as you can see in the following video:
One half of the RAW Tag Team Champions responded to The Usos during last night’s RAW Live Event in Jonesboro. Rollins stated that the real champs are on RAW.
After winning the RAW Tag Team Championship at WWE SummerSlam, Dean Ambrose has made history. Ambrose has now held each of the four major titles in WWE and has become a Grand Slam Champion. The criteria for being a Grand Slam Champion, is to have held the Intercontinental Championship, the United States Championship, either RAW or SmackDown Tag Team Championship and either the WWE or Universal Championship.
Ambrose has been IC Champion, US Champion, RAW Tag Team Champion and WWE Champion. Ambrose joins Edge, Big Show, The Miz, Eddie Guerrero, Daniel Bryan, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho as the only Superstars who have reached that achievement with WWE’s current active titles.
The WWE’s SummerSlam pre-show will kick off at 5pm EST on August 20th with a panel of Renee Young, Peter Rosenberg, David Otunga, and WWE Hall of Famers Lita and Jerry “The King” Lawler; with the pay-per-view (PPV) kicking off at 7pm EST.
Per a report from PWInsider, original plans had The Hardy Boyz taking on The Revival on the Kickoff Pre-Show, however, due to the recent bicep injury suffered by Scott Dawson that is likely to change. It is now believed that The Hardys will take on Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson instead, but that has yet to be announced.
The idea has also been tossed around of adding another Tag Team match-up to the Kickoff Pre-Show, that bout being The New Day vs. The Usos for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships.
WWE announced this morning that The New Day will face The Usos at WWE SummerSlam for the SmackDown Tag Titles. Back in June, The Usos purposely got themselves counted out at the Money in the Bank PPV to retain their titles against the New Day. The New Day then defeated The Usos at WWE Battleground to capture the titles late last month.
Last night at WWE Battleground, New Day defeated The Usos to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. After the match, The Usos congratulated New Day on their victory but warned them if they ever cross paths again, the New Day will get put to sleep.
Charlotte says she will come back stronger after loss
Natalya won the Fatal 5-Way Elimination Match last night at WWE Battleground to become the #1 contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Natalya won the match after slamming Charlotte’s head into the turnbuckle. After the match, Charlotte was interviewed backstage and was visibly upset about coming up short. Charlotte revealed that she hit her head very hard on the turnbuckle and that was ultimately what cost her the match. Charlotte congratulated Natalya on the victory but vowed to come back from this loss stronger and capture the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
New Day make history
As noted earlier, New Day defeated The Usos to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. New Day are now the first team to hold both the RAW and SmackDown Tag Team titles.
Randy Orton & John Cena defeat Jinder Mahal & Rusev after WWE TV tapings
Randy Orton and John Cena teamed up tonight after 205 Live went off the air and defeated Jinder Mahal and Rusev. Cena hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle on Rusev and then went for an Attitude Adjustment but Jinder Mahal ran into the ring and broke it up. Orton then planted Mahal with an RKO inside the ring and Cena connected with the Attitude Adjustment on Rusev for the victory. Below is a fan video of the finish to tonight’s dark match:
Randy Orton will face Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship in a Punjabi Prison Match this Sunday at WWE Battleground. John Cena will square off against Rusev in a Flag Match at the PPV.
The Usos are confident heading into WWE Battleground
Jimmy Uso defeated Kofi Kingston tonight on SmackDown. Kofi Kingston looked like he had the match won after connecting with a Crossbody off the top rope. Jimmy Uso rolled through and was able to pick up the pinfall victory over Kingston. This Sunday at WWE Battleground, The Usos will defend their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against New Day. The Usos picked up some momentum tonight and are clearly confident heading into the match as you can see in the SmackDown Fallout video below.
Latest episode of “The Fashion Files”
The latest episode of “The Fashion Files” aired Tuesday night during SmackDown. Tyler Breeze was dressed up as Agent Scully as the episode was parodying X-Files. Breezango thought they heard a ghost but it turned out to just be Aiden English singing. They then received a package from a delivery man that turned out to be the head of their beloved toy horse. The package also contained a note that read “Battleground”. Fandango then stated that this will all come to an end this Sunday at WWE Battleground. Check out the latest episode in the video below.
Alberto El Patron has once again gone on a tirade about WWE on social media. El Patron has taken shots at Triple H in the past, but this time he also mentioned the rap battle that aired on this past week’s episode of SmackDown between The Usos and New Day. The Usos took a shot at Xavier Woods during the rap battle and referenced Woods being in one of the private videos that were leaked involving Paige. Here is the lyric from the rap battle that El Patron may have had an issue with:
“Let’s just keep it PG, you know what’s good. Don’t get all rated-R like your boy Xavier Woods”.
El Patron posted on Instagram that he will be in San Antonio on Tuesday night at his restaurant. SmackDown Live is also being held in San Antonio that night. El Patron posted the following on Instagram and claimed that he will be waiting at his restaurant once SmackDown concludes:
