AJ Styles Says He Declined TNA’s Hall of Fame Offer, Not WWE

At TNA Bound for Glory 2024Rhino and the late Bob Ryder were inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Kurt Angle, Sting, Abyss, and others. This week, it was reported that TNA approached WWE about AJ Styles being inducted, only for the Sports Entertainment juggernaut to say no.

In an update however, Styles clarified that it was he, not WWE, who turned down the chance of a TNA Hall of Fame induction. While the Phenomenal One appreciates TNA, he doesn’t wish to be a part of any Hall of Fame as long as he remains an active talent.

Styles was considered the face of TNA Wrestling for years and debuted for the company at TNA’s very first show in 2002. After an impressive run with the promotion, Styles parted ways with TNA in 2014 and would join WWE two years later. Though AJ wasn’t inducted this year, he did appear via video for Bob Ryder’s induction.

Styles has certainly done enough to warrant a TNA Hall of Fame induction, but such an honor won’t be in his immediate future. Styles has been out of action since the October 4, edition of WWE SmackDown, where he suffered an injury in his first match back on TV after a lengthy absence. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest on AJ Styles and his plans in his pro wrestling future.

TNA Requested Current WWE Star For Hall of Fame Induction (Report)

At TNA Bound for Glory 2024, Rhino and the late Bob Ryder were inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Kurt Angle, Sting, Abyss, and others. This was an emotional highlight of TNA’s highest-attended pay-per-view in over a decade, but a current WWE Superstar was considered for the honor.

AJ Styles was considered for a TNA Hall of Fame induction, Fightful Select reports, with TNA reaching out to WWE about it potentially happening. The report adds that WWE passed on the opportunity though did not state why. The belief within TNA is that it was due to Styles’ recent injury and WWE did not want him appearing elsewhere first. Styles has been out of action since the October 4, edition of WWE SmackDown, where he suffered an injury in his first match back on TV after a lengthy absence.

There was also said to be a hope that Styles would be open to wrestling in TNA again, though its unclear if discussions were held. Styles parted ways with TNA in 2014 and would join WWE two years later. In July, Styles competed against Naomichi Marufuji for NOAH in his first non-WWE match in over eight years.

While AJ Styles was not inducted, he did appear via video during Bound for Glory during a package for Bob Ryder. Though WWE and TNA have become partners this year and AJ’s history with TNA is no secret, it remains to be seen if the Phenomenal One will appear in a TNA ring again after TNA’s request for an induction was reportedly blocked.

Rhino & TNA Co-Founder Bob Ryder To Be Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Since 2012, TNA Wrestling has welcomed some of its premier stars into its Hall of Fame with Sting, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, and Abyss all receiving the honor. This year, the ‘Man-Beast’ Rhino will receive his spot in the TNA Hall of Fame alongside Bob Ryder.

Rhino

Rhino joined TNA Wrestling in July 2005, just over a month after exiting WWE following that year’s One Night Stand pay-per-view. At that year’s Bound for Glory, Rhino would reach the top of the mountain, dethroning Jeff Jarrett as NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Rhino is also a two-time TNA World Tag Team Champion and won the 2008 Turkey Bowl contest.

Outside TNA, Rhino is known for being the final ECW Champion of the original promotion, where he also held the World TV Championship twice. In WWE, Rhino held the Hardcore title three times, the WCW U.S. Championship once, and was one-half of the inaugural WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

Bob Ryder

Concerned over WWE’s monopoly of wrestling in the U.S. following the demise of WCW and ECW, Ryder co-founded TNA Wrestling in 2002 alongside Jeff and Jerry Jarrett. Ryder was TNA’s first employee and became the company’s longest-tenured employee in history as he remained with TNA until his passing in 2020. During his tenure, Ryder held several roles with the company, including working as the Director of Travel Operations.

Before co-founding TNA, Ryder proved himself for years as an innovator in the wrestling media. At WrestleMania 11, Ryder became the person to conduct an online interview for the WWF when he fired questions as opponents Shawn Michaels and Diesel. In a statement after his passing, TNA referred to him as “the heart and soul of the promotion.” Eric Young, a friend of Ryder’s will induct and receive the honor on his behalf.

Rhino and Ryder will be inducted as part of the Countdown to Bound for Glory on October 26, from Wayne State University Fieldhouse in Detroit, MI (Rhino’s hometown.) Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest from Bound for Glory including live results and breaking news.

WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS REFEREE EARL HEBNER MAKES HISTORY WITH TNA WRESTLING HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

HEBNER BECOMES FIRST REFEREE INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME OF ANY MAJOR PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING PROMOTION

HEBNER’S HALL OF FAME INDUCTION TO TAKE PLACE SATURDAY, OCT. 3, DURING THE ROAD TO BOUND FOR GLORY TOUR LIVE EVENT IN SALEM, VA., HEBNER’S HOME STATE

TNA SENIOR PRODUCER AND SMASHING PUMPKINS FRONT MAN BILLY CORGAN TO INDUCT HEBNER

NASHVILLE, TN (Sept. 14, 2015) – For 27 years professional wrestling referee Earl Hebner has entered millions of living rooms across the globe every week, officiating the wildest and most memorable matches and main events of wrestling’s top promotions. On Saturday, Oct. 3, in front of family, friends and fans in his home state of Virginia, Hebner, the most famous professional referee in the world, will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame.

“Earl Hebner is not only one of the most recognizable personalities in professional wrestling, his passion for the sport, in-ring management skills, and ability to entertain audiences has set the standard by which all professional wrestling referees are measured,” said TNA President Dixie Carter. “ It is an honor to have Earl as part of the TNA family and as the newest member of the illustrious TNA Hall of Fame.”

Hebner’s TNA Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Saturday, Oct. 3 during The Road to Bound For Glory Tour live event in Salem, Va. Smashing Pumpkins front man and TNA Senior Producer, Billy Corgan, will induct Hebner, with TNA Ring Announcer and Hebner’s dear friend, Jeremy Borash, emceeing.

On Sunday, Oct. 4, during TNA’s biggest night of the year, the Bound For Glory Pay-Per-View event, a special segment will be dedicated to Earl’s TNA Hall of Fame induction and will feature career highlights and portions of his induction ceremony from the previous night.

Hebner will be the sixth inductee into the TNA Hall of Fame, joining Sting, Kurt Angle, Bully Ray, Devon and Jeff Jarrett. His TNA Hall of Fame induction marks the first time a referee of any major professional wrestling organization has become a member of the promotion’s Hall of Fame.

“When I received the call from John Gaburick (TNA’s Executive Vice President of Television and Talent Relations) and he told me I am being inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, I was stunned and my eyes welled up with tears,” said Hebner. “I’ve been working for 37 years for this incredible honor. It is rare for a referee in any sport to be recognized in this way, and I am proud TNA is recognizing me as the first referee to ever be inducted into a professional wrestling Hall of Fame.”

Hebner fell in love with professional wrestling during his teenage years while working concessions at the Richmond, Va., fairgrounds, where local and regional promotions would run shows every Friday night. He first became involved in professional wrestling by volunteering on the ring crew. Hebner’s foray into refereeing came about by happenstance when a referee fell ill and Earl was asked to fill in on a moment’s notice. Hebner went on to referee for Jim Crockett Promotions, and in the late 80s he made his debut with World Wrestling Federation, when he replaced his twin brother, Dave, mid-match and influenced the outcome of a title bout. Hebner made his TNA debut in 2006 where he has served as Senior Official, managing TNA’s other referees, including son Brian.

Backstage Update On AJ Styles Turning Down Offer To Return To TNA

As reported recently, TNA offered a deal for AJ Styles to return to the promotion, a deal that Styles turned down.

TNA offered the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion and current IWGP Heavyweight Champion what is being described as a “significant” deal to enter the TNA Hall Of Fame and wrestle a match at the TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view later this month.

According to one source, the reason Styles turned down the offer was because his priorities right now are with both Ring Of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

It’s also worth mentioning that in addition to the TNA Hall Of Fame induction and Slammiversary bookings, TNA was also looking at having Styles work a match at this year’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view.

Gail Kim Shares Her Opinion On WWE Divas, Talks Dixie Going Through A Table & More

The following are highlights of a new v2 Wrestling Podcast interview with TNA Knockout Gail Kim:

On whether she was comfortable seeing Dixie Carter go through a table: “Oh my God, yes, I felt very comfortable with it. I was so excited. Because, you know, if you wrestle this long, you’ve seen it all – not that you’ve seen it all – but it’s hard to maybe get surprised by something. And that was the first thing in a long time where I was saying, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe this is happening.’ I think the fans were excited, I think we were all excited. I thought it was a great thing that happened.”

On whether the Knockouts belong in the main event: “I definitely think so. I think it shows that Impact Wrestling has confidence in their women, and I think that they should because we are just as passionate and we can deliver when the pressure is on. I can’t speak for the fans and I’ve only heard positive reactions in terms of us main eventing the show, but I think we have something different to offer that the other promotion doesn’t offer, and that’s a strong women’s division. I think we have all taken the ball and ran with it.”

On the WWE Divas: “I don’t get to watch a lot of wrestling because I’m on the road all the time, but I still have friends there. Alicia Fox has always been a really good friend of mine from the day that we started together there, and we kind of catch up every once in a while and I hear what’s going on in that world. To me, I don’t think they’ll ever give the girls the main event. I mean, they have in the past, but I just feel that it hasn’t happened as consistently for years with the way that women’s wrestling is portrayed there. Hey, I want to be wrong, but all I can do is really concentrate on my job and where our women’s division is going. I just want to make this a success and I want to give the fans an opportunity to see the girls on that platform, and I think it’s a great alternative.”

On possibly being inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame: “I don’t think about those things, I always think about the now. I’m very honored that people even bring up my name. Without Impact Wrestling I wouldn’t have been able to create all those moments, so I just thank them that they gave me the platform to do what I do best. I hope [to be inducted] in the future and we’ll just come to that when the moment happens, if it happens.”

On the audition process for British Bootcamp 2: “We were there in terms of the first process. The first round is ‘show your personality’ – we kind of get to know each contestant and see what they’ve got. If you can entertain us and show us something, whether it’s presence or charisma, then you can move on to the next round and show us what you have in the ring. Sometimes we would ask them to show us a little bit of physicality in the ring. Certain people are known for their wrestling, so we wanted them to show us a little bit of their strengths. I think we picked the right ones; everybody can see on October 19th when the show premieres. I’ve been told that we picked the right ones, so we’ll just let the viewers decide.”
