“It’s pretty tense, actually,” Barrett said, describing the WWE locker room. “Especially for me, because I obviously missed last year’s WrestleMania because of the injury I got just beforehand. Everyone’s looking at the card, it’s really starting to take shape — I think we’ve got two or three matches that are kind of set for WrestleMania — and everyone’s looking at that card and thinking, ‘I’ve got to get myself on there pretty quickly,’ because unfortunately, there are limited spaces on the WrestleMania card. It’s not like everyone is going to get on there.”

Chris Jericho Talks about Triple H Gaining Power Backstage In WWE

WWE superstar Chris Jericho appeared on Konnan’s MLW Radio show this week and had this to say about Triple H gaining power backstage in WWE:

“It’s a changing of the guard. We’re in a transitional period right now between bosses. Vince is handing the reigns over to Triple H and Triple H has a lot of responsibilities and a lot of power now and it’s going to keep increasing because eventually Vince is going to give it up and stop. I don’t know if he’ll do it until he dies. I think over the next two or three years Triple H will be making most of the big decisions and Vince will be brought on as a consultant.

I know for this deal that I made to come back this time, I talked completely with Triple H. I didn’t talk with Vince at all and I’d always talked to Vince about any deal I ever had. Triple H is pretty much the boss, although Vince is always going to be the boss. But Triple H is in charge of more and more and more and developmental is a big part of that.

To be honest with you, he’s doing a great job. In the early 90s it’s no secret there was no love lost between he and I. We didn’t like each other, we didn’t get along. We had great matches, but there was always a personality issue. That stopped years and years ago and now I consider Triple H a pretty good friend. I’ll be completely flatly honest, I think he’s the right guy to take over the company. I think he’s prepared for it. He’s learning a lot about how to be the corporate guy. There’s so much more than just calling finishes and signing guys. He’s got to run the whole corporate side of it. Go to all the meetings, do all that stuff. I think it’s in very good hands if Vince ever retires or passes away.”

* Cameron and Naomi vs. Aksana and Tamina.

* Cody Rhodes vs. Sheamus.

* Damien Sandow vs. Daniel Bryan.

After Jericho gets back, he’s scheduled for almost all RAW and SmackDown tapings through WrestleManai. Alberto Del Rio Suspended From This Week’s SmackDown,

In response to back-to-back attacks by World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio on No. 1 contender Big Show, SmackDown General Manager Booker T announced Tuesday night that he has suspended the Mexican grappler from this week’s SmackDown.

“Following the incidents last Friday on SmackDown as well as this week on Raw,” Booker told WWE.com, “it is my duty as GM to suspend Alberto Del Rio. He will not be in action this Friday night and will not be in the building.”

WWE teased in the announcement: “While there is no question these latest developments will make a profound impression on this week’s edition of the blue brand, one has wonder how it will affect the upcoming World Title Match between Del Rio and The World’s Largest No. 1 contender at Elimination Chamber.”

Bret Hart Continues To Rant About Triple H (Video)

Arda Ocal spoke with former WWE Superstar Bret “Hitman” Hart after his recent comments about Triple H being an overrated, mediocre wrestler.

“There’s nothing to read between the lines. Take what I said and that’s my opinion. It’s not really fair to take it and make too much of an issue,” Hart said. “I only worked with Triple H from about 1992/3 to ’97. I haven’t worked with him since then. It’s not really fair for me to assess his abilities over the last ten years. But, my knowledge of him is – I still say he’s a decent wrestler. I wouldn’t put him in the top 1,000 great wrestlers.”

“To me, he was a very mediocre wrestler and I never saw him contribute an idea in my life. Whereas, I can look at different wrestlers and say, ‘They contributed ideas and made suggestions that were valid and helpful to constructing a decent match.’ But, I never saw any genius coming out of Triple H, nor in his matches.”

Regarding Triple H’s Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker at last year’s WrestleMania, he said, “I look at the match he had last year with Undertaker, like I said in that interview I was quoted as saying, ‘I give it a four out of ten.’ I think that was generous. It was a four out of ten. But, you have to understand Undertaker was hurt and there were circumstances that maybe I’m not privy to. So, I wouldn’t make too much of it; it’s just an opinion.

“But, the question was sort of, ‘Do I think that Triple H can carry the torch for the company and be the genius that Vince was?’ And, maybe he can, maybe he can’t. Let’s hope he can. But, if he can’t, it won’t be that big of a surprise to me because I never saw any great genius come out of him all the years I knew him.”

Asked if he knows if Triple H is aware of his comments and if their relationship will suffer because of what he’s said, Hart replied, “We don’t have that much of a relationship.”

He continued, “It doesn’t matter to me – he can speak his mind about me and I can speak my mind about him. I can speak my mind about Shawn Michaels or Triple H. I think what people expect from me and they always get from me is the truth. At least my honest opinion. Too bad for someone who takes exception to that.”

Also in the interview:

– Bret comments on his appearance at the Montreal Screwjob panel at the Royal Rumble and if he’s sick of telling that story. “Sometimes in talking about it you get a new perspective on it.”

– He says it doesn’t bother him that Shawn doesn’t really remember the incident. “It doesn’t surprise me. Shawn had his problems back then.”

– Having high praise for Alberto Del Rio and accepting his new nickname the “Canadian Del Rio”

Shelton Benjamin WWE Bound? Backstage Mood At TLC, Sammartino-HOF Rumor

– Shelton Benjamin appears to be the latest former WWE superstar that the company is looking to bring back. F4wonline.com reports that Benjamin recently gave his notice to Ring of Honor, was released from his contract and will begin negotiating with WWE soon.

Benjamin might continue working for ROH until a deal with WWE is made, but there’s a strong chance we’ll see him back in WWE in the coming weeks.

– The backstage mood at Sunday’s WWE TLC pay-per-view from Brooklyn, New York was very positive, with everybody loving the new billion dollar Barclay’s Arena facility. Vince McMahon and Triple H in particular were in a great mood at the show, praising everybody’s work.

– With the WWE crew in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania today for tonight’s live SmackDown show, there’s some buzz that Triple H will be meeting with Pittsburgh native, Bruno Sammartino, to discuss a possible Hall of Fame induction.

Plans For WM29 World Heavyweight Title Match, Triple H’s Role At NXT & More

– With Triple H taking over WWE’s developmental system earlier this year, it’s almost unanimous that talent development has been strong than it has been in a long time. A few of Triple H’s pet projects (Kharma, Sin Cara) have been busts so far, but time will and it will take more talents getting called up before a fair assessment can be made.

– WWE’s current plans for the World Heavyweight title match at WrestleMania 29 is for Sheamus to wrestle Randy Orton for the gold This would obviously require one of them winning the belt in early 2013 and Randy Orton will probably get his wish of turning heel again soon.

– WWE Intercontinental champion Kofi Kingston is featured on the latest episode of WWE’s Outside The Ring Youtube series.

Update On John Laurinaitis’ Future In WWE, Fear Over RAW’s Rating, More On RAWActive Voting

– There is talk in WWE that John Laurinaitis will be leaving the company soon and will not be returning to television as an on-air character.

– The RAWActive Twitter poll on Monday’s RAW with Kane and Daniel Bryan was given the green light by Triple H. Vince McMahon is reportedly not a fan of the social media service, but with Triple H running the show due to Vince being out of the country on Monday, WWE “allowed the fans” to pick CM Punk’s opponent.

As noted noted earlier this week, Daniel Bryan revealed on Twitter that contrary to what was reported on RAW, he actually received more votes than Kane.

– After the third hour of Monday’s WWE RAW lost a staggering 638,000 viewers from the second hour, there is a lot of concern about how Vince McMahon will react. Especially because McMahon was out of the country and not running the show, it will be easier to assign blame to others.

Vince McMahon Laying Low At Television Events, WWE Merchandise Sales, Papa Shango

– As previously reported, the atmosphere at Monday’s RAW was different without Vince McMahon there. While the mood was less stressful without “the boss” there changing things on the fly, the downside was that Vince’s leadership was missing and issues with the writing team and producers were not handled as efficiently by Triple H. One source called the night “more chaotic than usual” as a result.

Typically, Vince McMahon does not interact with the wrestlers much prior to RAW, since he’s busy working with the pruducers and running things from the Gorilla position. On Tuesdays for SmackDown, Vince has been giving Triple H more responsibilities as of late in an effort to groom him for when he’s the one running the show.

– WWE merchandise sales has been described as “haves” and “have nots.” A few talents are reportedly making “great money,” with all others not faring too well.

– During a recent interview, Charles Wright revealed that WWE had plans for him to return as grittier version of Papa Shango in 1997, but the idea was ultimately shelved due the introduction of another dark, supernatural character in Kane. In response to feedback on Twitter, Wright said Jerry Lawler assisted him with the character’s look and that he may post online a Polaroid photo that was taken then if he can find it.

Backstage Mood At RAW & Who Ran The Show, Punk Injury Update, Reactions To The Shield & Ryback’s Promos

– As noted earlier, CM Punk tweeted that he was undergoing x-rays today. Punk has reportedly been working with an injured knee and has been seen limping around in recent weeks.

– With Vince McMahon still overseas visiting United States troops serving in the Middle East, Triple H was in charge at Mondays RAW. There was a much more laid-back environment at RAW, with fewer rewrites. The general feeling backstage was that things will be less tense behind the scenes when Vince McMahon eventually steps down and hands the reigns over to Triple H and Stephanie.

– WWE was very satisfied with The Shield’s first promo on Monday’s RAW, with Dean Ambrose standing out as the group’s best talker, Roman Reigns came off well but Seth Rollins still needing to improve his mic work.

– WWE was also happy with Ryback’s interview in the opening segment of RAW.

Triple H Talks About WrestleMania Selling More Tickets Than The SuperBowl

Politifact.com has an article up comparing WWE WrestleMania ticket sales vs. NFL Super Bowl ticket sales. WWE has sold more tickets than the NFL did 5 out of the 6 times when WrestleMania was held from a stadium that previously hosted the SuperBowl.

Triple H was quoted in the article, saying, “We’ve outdrawn the Super Bowl for a little while now in the arenas and stadiums that we’ve followed them in for the Super Bowl. We’ve gone in after [the NFL] and surpassed their ticket sales.”

The article calls Triple H’s claims “Mostly True” because the seating configuration for WWE events allows for more seating than football games.

“The difference between WrestleMania and Super Bowl staging is that WrestleMania has a stage much like a concert so seats behind the stage are unavailable but would be used for football,” Kevin Hennessy, WWE senior director of publicity, said in an e-mail.

“However, for WrestleMania, seats are added to field level which would not be done for football. That is why we feel justified in making the comparison.”

Paul “Triple H” Levesque Explains Why He Cut Off His Trademark Ponytail In September

Promoting WrestleMania XXIX at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events, appeared on WHEB-FM’s “The Morning Buzz.” During the radio interview, he explained that he cut off his trademark ponytail in September because wearing it on a daily basis in the corporate environment had become an increasing nuisance.

“To be honest, the hair actually didn’t have that much to do with the corporate position as much as it did with… For years when I was wrestling and I wore my hair down all the time—I’d go through airports whenever I let my hair down, it didn’t matter—and just in that [corporate] environment I was wearing my hair up all the time. It just got to be such a pain that for the last year and a half I’ve been dying to cut it off. It just started to become the bane of my existence, my hair every day, and I never wore it down; I just couldn’t wait for the time when I could finally get rid of it,” Levesque explains.

“And it’s the weirdest thing. To me, it wasn’t that big of a deal and I didn’t really put that much thought into it, but then I literally did it in the morning, drove to the office, there was a couple of people outside, I took a few pictures as I was walking in, and I went inside. I got upstairs, it wasn’t even ten minutes later, and someone came up, “Dude, you’re all over TMZ that you cut your hair.”

Triple H Talks About Punk vs. Austin Dream Match, Undertaker’s Streak, Lesnar

WWE superstar/executive Triple H spoke to the New York Post this week to promote Wrestlemania 29 tickets going on sale this Saturday. Here are some highlights of what The Game said about:

WWE Making Changes To The AXXESS Fan Fest: “Wrestlemania isn’t just a one-night event, it’s a week-long event. All of the things that we’ll do in the New York-New Jersey area, we’ll have events on both sides of the Hudson. From Wrestlemania Axxess, which is our fan event that goes on all week, which is going to be revamped this year with a lot more meet-and-greets and autograph signings with our superstars, which is the biggest part of it. There’s also going to be a VIP experience that allows fans unprecedented access to backstage and the inner workings of what happens on a Monday Night Raw or Pay-Per-View event. That’s going to be a really unique experience. From that taking place at Izod Center to Hall of Fame being at Madison Square Garden, to Raw the next night being back at the Izod Center, to Wrestlemania itself, there is going to be stuff that happens all week long. We come in and take over the whole area.”

Getting Another Shot At Undertaker’s Streak: “[Laughs] It’s New York, it’s Wrestlemania, there’s going to be 70,000 people going crazy in MetLife stadium, it’s going to be tough for me not to want to be involved in that.”

The CM Punk vs. Steve Austin Dream Match: “One thing I have learned in the WWE is never say never. I’d be surprised if Austin ever threw the trunks on again. You get to a certain point in your life where your mind thinks you can do a lot of things that you maybe can’t. I’d be surprised but I’ve learned in this business to never say never so you never know. I guarantee you CM Punk will be involved in Wrestlemania somehow. That’s one of the interesting things, The Rock came out earlier this year and guaranteed that at some point in time he would be the WWE Champion and it was his mission. Well it’s not 1999 anymore, it’s not 2002, it’s a different year and there’s a different group of guys. CM Punk has had a lock on that thing for a while and it’s no cakewalk for The Rock. It’s not like he’s going to walk back in here and take over. It’s going to be interesting to see.”

It’s also worth noting that Triple H said, “Brock Lesnar has been discussing his return being at Wrestlemania” and he also mentioned Bruno Sammartino’s history at Madison Square Garden when talking about the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony taking place from the famous arena.

CM Punk Appearing On Popular TV Show, Maddox a “Triple H Guy” & More

– WWE Main Event has been averaging around 1.46 million viewers and a 0.9 rating since its premiere on Ion, which is better than TNA Impact Wrestling draws on Spike TV.

– WWE referee-turned-wrestler Brad Maddox is considered Triple H’s latest project. Maddox was not seen as having major potential while training as a wrestler at WWE developmental, but there’s a strong chance he’ll (somehow) win his match with Ryback on RAW and earn his contract.

– WWE Champion CM Punk has apparently made a deal to appear on a very popular television show. Punk appeared on Colt Cabana’s Art Of Wrestling podcast last week and said that he can’t reveal which show he’ll be appearing on for a few weeks and still has to clear it with WWE, but thinks WWE would have selected another superstar for the acting gig if it had gone through them originally.
