Former WWE diva Trish Stratus recently spoke to the Miami Herald to promote Sunday’s WrestleMania 28 pay-per-view. Trish spoke about her acting career, the state of the Diva’s division, a possible second season of Tough Enough, how yoga affects her life, and more.
As one of the most successful WWE divas of all time, Trish is familiar with the lack of time and focus given to the Divas division:
“Jazz and I were given that same two-minute timeslot and were regarded the same. We were just two chicks where there were the puppy chants and things like that. It was up to us to put something together that was so memorable or out of the box or giving them a certain level of entertainment or performance for the fans. At the end of the day it is what Vince [McMahon] and the other members of production want, but they are very much about what the fans want.
“We said we need the fans to demand more women so we went out there and tried to give them a match where they think, ‘Man, I’m not going to chant puppies anymore. I’m actually going to cheer for more of this.’ Then suddenly we found that because the interest has grown from the fans that allowed our ideas to be spoken louder to the production team. I kind of see it as my or their responsibility.
“I always said, whatever time they give you, it is your responsibility to make those the best one, two, three or five minutes you have because that is your opportunity to give the fans what they demand to see more of you.
Stratus then explained how she feels WWE could improve the Women’s division:
“I think what WWE got away from was keeping it just the women. You have two women feuding then they put a mishmash of eight people in there, so nobody gets a real focus. I think what was key was seeing the women in the men storylines like we have seen with Rosa Mendes out there with the guys. It gives them the opportunity to be out there with other characters. We are seeing them in valet roles a little bit more, and that helps highlight them and allows character development happen. It seems like they are moving in the right direction.”
Trish Stratus appeared on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight to discuss her WWE career and how yoga has changed her life. Two minutes into the interview, George Stroumboulopoulos asks the seven-time WWE Women’s Champion if John Morrison resented her appearance at WrestleMania last year. Her participation in the tag team match with Morrison and Jersey Shore star Snooki against LayCool and Dolph Ziggler reportedly upset Morrison and girlfriend Melina.
“I don’t know if he did… he might have said that,” she responds.
Stratus continues, “He’s entitled to his opinion. It was one of these things where we had an epic moment, it was WrestleMania, our biggest stage of them all, and I had been retired. So I’m out of the scene and suddenly I get to come back and be in the grandest stage of all, I get to be at WrestleMania. Well he thought “that’s not cool” because I guess his girlfriend is a women wrestler and so he thought maybe another girl deserved that spot. But, I had gone back to WWE television to do Tough Enough, which was a reality show they did to find the next WWE Superstar. They asked me to be back, we promoted that show, etc. He was a little resistant, like there were some moments where I was like, “Oh, he’s not meshing with me.”
Stratus then details the ‘famous cold shoulder incident’ where she was snubbed by Morrison during their post-match celebration at WrestleMania when she attempted to embrace him.
“We have a famous cold shoulder incident. Well, we’re on live television. We had a match, we won the match, we were victorious as a team and then I went to go like, we do that typical thing, you raise the hand, you point [and he went in another direction, leaving Trish hanging],” she explains.
“I just said to him, “Hey, what you’ve done now, is because your career is made up of moments, so now you’ve taken a moment from the fans, really.” Because they don’t care about backstage politics, they don’t care if you think your girlfriend should be in that spot or whatever it was. So he just denied the fans and himself and that’s that.”
Stroumboulopoulos then asks Stratus if Morrison would have snubbed her had she not been a woman.
“Probably wouldn’t have done that to me if I wasn’t a woman, yeah,” she responds.
Former 6 time WWE Womens Champion Trish Stratus was recently interviewed by @Arda Ocal of The Score Television Network.. Here are highlights of Part 2 of this exclusive interview:
Comparing fighting in the WWE for so many years to fighting in movies. How is that all different to her :
“So different. we approached it from a tradional movie stand point, which means we have to do stunt work. Thats what moves have stunts. The concept of not making contact in movies was difficult for me cause in WWE we made contact. Its very different from stunt work. I tip my hat off to the director Patrick cause he told his cast, whatever you wanna do with this script, go with it, make it look real, have fun with it, play with it”
Her match at Wrestlemania 18 in her hometown of Toronto, Onatrio where she faced Jazz and Lita in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Womens Championship. Her match was just after the bout between The Rock and Hulk Hogan. Was it bittersweet for her to be in that position at Wrestlemania 18 :
“Looking at it on the paper, im like oh my god I cant beleive were in this match, it was really a tough act to follow. The crowd actually surprisinaly was with us which was great cause it was a testament to the hard work that the womens division point had done. Something interesting had happened. When the guys ( The Rock and Hulk Hogan ) had their match, the one thing I remember was I was about to go out to preform, its my first Wrestlemania as a wrestler. I got the heads up from Hulk and The Rock. Rock said to me ” good luck go get em kid”, and Hulk Hogan said “you got this kid”
Her yoga studio, “Stratusphere Yoga”. What is the business plan for “Stratusphere Yoga” ? Are there any plans for her to open up new locations anywhere else, also has she ever approached other WWE superstars about recommending trying yoga themselves:
“I have, actually all the girls right now are doing it, the stratusphere yoga right now. DDP and I have been in touch. Randy Orton started doing it. Rey Mysterio, when he came back from his injury was like “you look great what are you doing, how did you make that comeback from that herniated disk” I told him about the yoga and he started trying that as well.”
Arda Ocal of The Score Television Network had a chance to sit down and interview former WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus. In the interview, Stratus does not rule out the possibility of attending WrestleMania but says “it’s not on my calendar at the moment.” She also talks about her upcoming movie project with Lita and defends Natalya’s “flatulence” and Eve’s “Hoeski” angles. Highlights:
Her new movie release “Bounty Hunters” on DVD, how did she get involved in the project: “The director/writer Patrick McBrearty, he sat down and wrote a script and said I need a strong female lead for this, so he pictured Trish Stratus in his mind. It landed on my desk, I read the script, and Trish Stratus just jumped out of the pages to me. Small crew, Canadian casting crew, I was excited to support that. Also the fact that I got to do some fighting, got to learn some new fighting art. That was a great oppurtunity to do that.”
Will she be at WrestleMania 28 in Miami, Florida?: “At this point it’s not in my calendar, but things change. There’s alot of very talented women right now that can do an amazing match at WrestleMania. I hope to see Beth Phenoix doing the Pin-up Strong movements, been amazing to watch. But lets just see what happens, you never know. I just hope there is a Divas match, even if I’m not in it.”
Her thoughts of the WWE divas division now: “(The Divas division) is just lacking the development we had. Everyone is asking me about Natalya and Eve and how controversial the angles are and can you believe that in a negative way, but I look at it in a positive thing. Natalya is doing this flatulence gimmick, and theres the hoeski gimmick for Eve. To me, this is just character development. Everytime there out there, the audience has a chance to connect with them, and get more invested in them as characters and performers”
Diva Dirt interview with Trish Stratus
Interview available at Diva-Dirt.com.
Trish Stratus joined us again recently ahead of the DVD release of her debut movie, Bounty Hunters. We talk to Trish about the movie and whether she has any more movie roles in the pipeline, as well as talk wrestling. Trish talks about her return to WrestleMania last year, Tough Enough and whether she’d return for a second season, the John Morrison “cold shoulder” situation, Natalya’s flatulence gimmick, what she’d book for ‘Mania 28, the latest on her movie project with Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas and more.
What she would have booked for WrestleMania 28: “Personally, I would’ve loved to see Natalya and Beth go and run towards ‘Mania. If you’d asked me a year ago what I would book for ‘Mania this year, I would’ve had Beth and Nattie run together as a team and I would’ve done the Triple H/Batista angle where I would’ve had [Natalya] turned and at the end, we’d have those two at WrestleMania. To me that would’ve been an epic moment. Maybe that would’ve been a good time for Nattie to win the championship back or something like that.”
John Morrison’s “cold shoulder” following WrestleMania 27: “It probably blew up more than it did between us. It was one of those moments where he was straight up saying, ‘I just really a fan of you coming in’, and that’s fine, everybody’s entitled to their opinion. It’s just unfortunate that his personal feelings translated to our match and that’s where I had the problem.
“We had that moment after Raw where that cold shoulder happened and I said to him, ‘It’s too bad that that happened’. I shook hands, I said, ‘It was a pleasure working with you. Personally I’m a fan. I love the idea of John Morrison and Trish Stratus as a team. I think it would’ve been cool’.”
“If I go back, if we had been on the same page with things, we could’ve created some awesome moments between us. Like when Carlito and I were a tag team, we had similar styles and we got some really neat, memorable moments. I think John Morrison and I — that’s what I was excited about doing, something like this. To me, it’s just unfortunate that we couldn’t get on the page. I wish I had known he was totally on the other side of the page and maybe [there] would’ve been a different approach altogether, rather than finding out live on Raw. [Laughs] But we’re all entitled to our opinions, it’s one of those things – you don’t miss what you never had.”
Whether there was a double standard because she was a female and if he’d have done the same thing with a male legend like Stone Cold or The Rock: “Maybe he thought he could do that a little bit more to me than he could to one of the male Superstars. Maybe there is a double-edged sword there. But who knows? It’s fine. We move on.”
On Natalya flatulence gimmick: “I haven’t seen it so I can’t comment on it directly, but hopefully it’s one of those things where it just gets people talking and it’s kind of like the Molly Holly thing where [we had] the ‘junk in the trunk’ [storyline]. People were like, ‘I can’t believe they’re doing that to her,’ but at the end of the day, it got people interested, it got people invested, it got people into what they’re doing and you have something to talk about.”
During an interview with SportsVibe.uk, former WWE Diva Trish Stratus teased a possible match with Divas champion Beth Phoenix at WrestleMania 28. Stratus, who has been going back and forth with Phoenix on Twitter, had this to say about a possible match:
“Beth was saying that she was the most dominant champion, so I thought I would just let her know that title is already taken.”
“As for a match between Beth and myself at WrestleMania that is an excellent proposition and I think the fans would love that. I’ve actually had the opportunity to tangle up with Beth Phoenix a couple of times and I think that she is amazing in the ring and I would love to kick her ass actually.”
Just last month, Trish Stratus wrote the following message on Twitter in response to Beth Phoenix claiming to be the most dominant woman wrestling champion in history:
“@TheBethPhoenix should choose her words wisely when it comes to being the most dominant champion…”
Aside from Trish Stratus, Kharma has also been rumored as a potential WrestleMania opponent for Beth Phoenix. We want to know – who would you rather see face Beth Phoenix at WrestleMania 28 – Trish Stratus or Kharma?
— WWE.com reported Thursday that company physician Dr. Michael Sampson examined Randy Orton and said he suffered a herniated disc on the L4-L5 level on the left side, which has resulted in pain and weakness down his leg.
“He’s going to need some time off for rehab, anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy,” said Dr. Sampson.
F4WOnline.com reports that his injury is legitimate. Orton had been complaining of the injury for two weeks which is why his physical workload was reduced prior to the injury angle shot at Tuesday’s SmackDown taping in Indianapolis, Indiana. WWE.com says the injury could keep him sidelined for a few weeks.
— WWE.com has posted an article reflecting on the numerous comebacks to take place in 2011. Booker T, Kevin Nash, Triple H, Trish Stratus, the “Classic” Intercontinental Championship, Mick Foley, masked Kane and The Rock are highlighted.

– WWE officials Trish Stratus to appear at Monday’s Slammy RAW to present the Divalicious Slammy along with Lita. WWE was understanding about the situation and there’s no heat on Trish for declining the offer.
During AfterBuzzTV.com’s post-show for Raw, the topic of WWE’s questionable Sin Cara T-Shirt was brought to the attention of hosts Lilian Garcia and Maria Kanellis, as well as studio guest Trish Stratus. Stratus and Garcia were aghast over the shirt while Kanellis thought it was hysterical.
“I am not Stratusfied,” Stratus said upon seeing an image of the shirt on a smart phone. This is then followed by numerous double entendres on the part of the seven-time WWE Women’s Champion—who is known to have a dirty sense of humor—and the hosts.
WWEShop.com pulled the shirt Sunday, less than 24 hours after it was released. The shirt featured the shape of a phallus embedded in a gold design. No one within WWE knows how the product made its way through several approval stages before being put up for sale. According to people who ordered the T-Shirt during the few hours it was available, they were notified that their order would not be processed and would have the option of receiving credit or a full refund.
During an interview for Canada’s SLAM! Sports site, former WWE Diva Trish Stratus talked about the prospect of hosting a second season of Tough Enough on the new WWE Network. Trish said:
“Being a coach on Tough Enough was a perfect role for me to come back in. It fit perfectly with my schedule, too — we were out filming in California for about two months. It was perfect and to parlay some of the knowledge and experience that I’d gained over the years and help these young kids who are pursuing their dreams, it was really cool.”
She also spoke about her new movie “Bounty Hunters” which she filmed this year. Trish did her own stunts for the movie (which she loved) – and talked about a difference between acting and wrestling.
“It was amazing. I really enjoyed it. I was able to do my own fight scenes and learn a new fighting art, which really appealed to me to accept the role.”
“At first, I would think, ‘Hey, what’s going on? I did good, and nobody’s cheering.’ But then you get the wonderful moment of sitting in a theatre and seeing yourself on the big screen, and everyone starts cheering, that’s really cool. And to see myself fighting with sound effects — I’ve seen myself fight for ten years — but with the addition of sound effects, wow that takes it to a whole new level.”

“Oh, completely. When she debuted, I think it was one of the first times since I retired where I would have dropped it all to go back and step into the ring with her. That would have been an epic rivalry. I would have loved to have wrestled her. Hopefully, she’ll come back so the WWE Universe can see more of her.”
– WWE’s push with Twitter is paying off – because WWE had almost 30 wrestling-related phrases trending worldwide during the show. WWE’s influence over Twitter is so strong that even phrases like Brodus Clay and Little Jimmy which weren’t mentioned on RAW were still trending. WWE’s trending terms included:
CM Punk, Booker T, Punk vs. Ziggler, Zack Ryder, Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Nash, Jack Swagger, The Great White, Sheamus, Santino Marella, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Vickie Guerrero, GTS, Alicia Fox, Masked Kane, Big Show, Wade Barrett, Randy Orton, Barrett Barrage, Kofi Kingston, Brodus Clay, Fruity Pebbles, John Cena, The Miz, Awesome Truth and Little Jimmy.

— Since parting ways with WWE in August, Melina has been highlighting messages on Twitter which suggest that her relationship with John Morrison is not picture perfect. She retweeted the following recently:
“I haven’t met Mr. Right yet. But I have met Mr. Fake, Mr. Rude, Mr. Wrong & Mr. Player.”
She then wrote regarding the message, “But I pray 1 day I’ll meet Mr Right!”
— A character depicting Lex Luger appeared on a recent episode of the stop motion animated television series Robot Chicken. The clip can be accessed here.
— Former WWE star Luke Gallows suggested on Twitter that he’s now a tattoo artist. He wrote, “Just gave my first tattoo in Melbourne, Australia!”
While watching John Morrison suffer another loss on the Raw SuperShow Monday, former WWE talent Sean Waltman attributed The Prince of Parkour’s recent struggles to his dismissive treatment of revered women’s wrestler Trish Stratus at WrestleMania XXVII.
Waltman wrote on Twitter, “Eventually they will take Morrison out of the dog house. He brought it on himself with the way he treated Trish Stratus at WM.”
In response to a remark that Morrison’s days with the sports-entertainment league are coming to an end, he wrote, “If he was smart he’d ride out the storm. HHH was in the doghouse forever & now look.”
While promoting the release of Ball Enforcers in April, Stratus confirmed reports that Morrison behaved in disregard to her during their post-match celebration at WrestleMania XXVII. She also stated that he passed over suggestions she had for the bout.
“I got a bit of cold shoulder action, correct,” Stratus said in response to an interview question that Morrison snubbed her following their match against Michelle McCool, Layla and Dolph Ziggler at the event. “John Morrison himself is amazing. He’s a great athlete. I was really looking forward to working with him. I thought it would be cool if we could do some stuff together. He didn’t think it would be that cool. It happens.”
She continued, “Hey whatever. It happens. You know he’s into his thing and just didn’t think that I should part of his thing I guess, but I still admire him as an athlete, as a performer. I think he does a great job out there. Cold shoulder? Yeah I felt it. I was shunned. Some people are not smart maybe? You know they wrestle well, but maybe they’re not smart. I don’t know.”
According to the Pro Wrestling Torch, friends of Morrison were shocked by his cold behavior towards the legendary female performer. The assumption of many within WWE is that Melina, his significant other, was in his ear earlier because she believed Stratus was taking “her spot” at the annual pay-per-view extravaganza.
WWE sources say as Stratus was presenting match suggestions to Morrison backstage, he said things such as “I’m not feeling that” (a phrase coined several years ago by Hulk Hogan in World Championship Wrestling) and “I don’t want to look at you.”
Mickie James has revealed in an interview how Vince McMahon yelled at her in the aftermath of her first WrestleMania match.
James debuted in WWE in 2005 and participated in a memorable angle with Trish Stratus. The storyline climaxed at WrestleMania 22 where James capture the WWE Women’s Championship from the blonde bombshell, but contained a controversial moment. Her character had developed crazed lust-like feelings for her opponent, touched Stratus’ crotch and made a provocative gesture towards the camera insinuating lesbian intimacy.
McMahon was furious with James and ordered the gesture be edited out of future video releases.
Speaking to Wrestlecast, James recalls: “The only people that remember that are the people watching or who were there live and in person. It didn’t make the DVD.
“I came back through the curtain and Vince was really mad. In the moment it had seemed amazing to me. I thought ‘Vince will love this’.
“‘Crass’ was the word I got. He didn’t like it at all. He told me ‘We’re going to have to go back and edit that out. Do you know how much time (this will take)?’
“This was my first Wrestlemania, my mom was in the audience, I’m freaking out already. I’m back through the curtain and I’m already in tears and an emotional mess. And I got yelled at.”
James, along with TNA star Magnus, participated in a near 50-minute chat which featured many interesting anecdotes about their respective careers. The podcast can be accessed here.
Here’s a little bonus video of one of the more memorable moments from the Trish Stratus – Mickie James feud:
