Velvet Sky Interested In “Beautiful” Reunion, Talks Internet

Velvet Sky indicated in an interview promoting TNA Wrestling’s upcoming tour of the United Kingdom that she would be interested in a “Beautiful People” reunification with Angelina Love. When asked by Zoo Today if there will be a reunion, she responds, “You can never say never in wrestling, hint hint TNA creative.

“Don’t get me wrong I am enjoying my run just now as a singles competitor. When we were a group that was one of the best times I’ve had. Angelina and I, and she’ll agree, we’ve just had this amazing chemistry, especially when we were doing promos and talking.

“I feel like we were made for that role and Madison Rayne was a great fit to the group when she joined. You know it’s a lot harder for female acts to make an impact in the wrestling world. At the time of the Beautiful People we were confident it would work, but surprised to the extent of its success where we really connected with the fans. You couldn’t have just thrown any two people together to create the Beautiful People. A special bond and on-screen chemistry made it work and so successful.”

Sky was also asked about the impact of the Internet on the professional wrestling industry. She feel it’s fantastic for fan interaction but that wrestling news outlets are damaging. She cites a recent report.

“Aside from the positives from the likes of Twitter and Facebook, the internet in general has had quite a negative effect on the business,” she says.

“Some people report false information on professional wrestling and those in the industry, just so they can have a story. It was reported that the onscreen persona of Karen Jarrett and her negative dialogue of me was what TNA officials thought of me. That is complete and utter bullshit! It is just false. This is just a small example of how the internet can have a negative effect on wrestling and affect my character.”

She continues, “I laugh at it more than anything. It’s just frustrating because I have worked so hard to try and keep a good name for myself in this business. Don’t get me wrong as I said the likes of Twitter and Facebook have also had a positive effect because it has helped tremendously with fan interaction. Before social networking fans could only interact with us through autograph signings and events like that. But now with a click of a button fans can get in touch with us and that’s a great thing for us too.

The Knockout also discusses the direction of women’s wrestling in TNA, what she looks for in a man, her interests outside of the ring, whether she aspired to be a professional wrestler growing and more. The interview is available here.

Sky Comments On Rumor That TNA Thinks She’s Too Provocative

Velvet Sky stated on Busted Open (which airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday on Sirius 92 and XM 208 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.) that TNA Wrestling officials clarified to her an online rumor published on various wrestling websites last month indicating that they view her unfavorably: it’s untrue.

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer reported in December that much of Karen Jarrett’s degrading on-air dialogue toward the wrestling starlet is based on how certain company officials legitimately perceive her. She immediately dismissed the rumor on Twitter, “LOL that RUMOR is so far from the truth. Don’t believe everything you read people…” She explains further on Busted Open.

“Honestly, I don’t know where that came from but I’ve spoken to the office. I get along with everyone great in TNA. As far as I know. If they have a problem with me then I don’t know, especially when it comes to the office. I’ve always been very respectful of the office and vice versa,” Sky says.

“I never had a problem with anyone in the office or in creative. That rumor is exactly what it is…a rumor. I don’t know where it started. The office talked to me about it and clarified it to me that it wasn’t true, and don’t believe it, it’s ridiculous. I didn’t believe it in the first place. When that rumor first started, I’m like where did that rumor come from? I get along with everybody. No one thinks that about me. No one thinks I’m too provocative.”

Rosita Discusses Her Rookie Year, Opportunities Knockouts Get

Impact Wrestling star Rosita joined us this week on DD360 to discuss her incredible year since joining the company in January. Rosita fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a wrestling star in 2011, positively marking the 10th anniversary of her father’s tragic passing during the 9/11 terror attacks. As fans will know, Rosita’s father, an amateur wrestler himself, inspired Rosita to become a wrestler. Her inspiring story earned her the Pro Wrestling Illustrated award for Inspiring Wrestler of the Year, as announced by Dixie Carter this week.

Highlights from the interview below. You can listen here:

On her rookie year in Impact Wrestling: “It’s been a crazy journey so far. I look back a couple of years ago, and seeing where I am now, there’s no way I thought I’d be where I am right now.”

“It’s truly amazing to see where determination and drive will lead you. From people telling me, ‘Oh no, you’re too small’ and ‘You can’t do those things that everyone else can do because you’re so small’, and you put those people to rest saying, ‘I can do this no matter what’. I had Tommy Dreamer, who’s amazing to me, from the very first day I met him — he actually was the one to say to me, ‘I believe in you, I know that you can do this. Let’s see what you can do at TNA’. Everybody at TNA has been amazing to me too, so I’ve been truly blessed on this whole [journey].”

On winning PWI’s Inspirational Wrestler of the Year award: “I remember when I was first presented the award, I was amazed. Usually when I’m shocked, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God’ — I just lose my breath and I [get] lost for words. I just looked at it like, ‘Oh, my God, this is amazing’.”

“I just remember bringing it home to my mom and she just started crying. She couldn’t even believe that her daughter — her crazy little daughter [Laughs] — actually touched the lives of other people to say that I’m an inspiration. It was an absolute honor.”

The screen time & opportunities afforded to the Knockouts division: “I think it’s super important [to have the screen time and opportunities the Knockouts receive]. Back to what I was saying about Hardcore Justice, I mean, despite the fact that myself and Sarita lost against [Brooke] Tessmacher and Tara, that was one of my favorite matches and that match alone was a good 10 minutes. When was the last time you really got a [Divas] match that’s over two minutes in WWE?”

“I’m just glad that we are given that time to show everybody who we are and show everybody what we have. And everybody is so different — you can look at Sarita and know that [there is] no comparison to Velvet Sky or Angelina Love. Everybody has their own certain characters. Everybody has something that they bring to the table.”

“I think it’s great that we get so much airtime to show that, and if you look, sometimes there’s more than one Knockouts match. You’re lucky if you get one Divas match in WWE.”

On her on-screen cousin Sarita overcoming the difficult year she’s had with facial paralysis & a nasty fall in Mexico: “From the moment I met Sarita, you can see that she is just, from top to bottom, inside and out, tough. She’s very tough. She’s very sincere, and she’s very sweet, but she’s tough as nails. No matter what, she will always get up from a fall. She didn’t let facial paralysis stop her from performing. She didn’t let that fall [in Mexico] stop her from coming back to the Impact Zone and doing what she does best and I couldn’t be more proud of her because there’s just some things, people are like, ‘Okay, I’m not going to go wrestle anymore after that’ or ‘Not my face, no’, but she’s not afraid of anything. It’s crazy. That’s another reason I look up to her.”

Velvet Sky On What Should Change In The Knockouts Division

Velvet Sky appeared on Monday Night Mayhem, which airs every Monday night at 7:00 p.m. via MondayNightMayhem.com. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

The feeling of competing for the Knockouts Championship at TNA’s biggest Pay-Per-View of the year, the special meaning of Bound for Glory to her, and the importance of returning to Philadelphia: “It did take a while to sink in, but there’s two cool things about this Pay-Per-View: Bound For Glory was where I made my debut with TNA four years ago, so that in itself means a lot to me, and what better place to do it than Philadelphia, my old stomping grounds for the independent scene. I absolutely love the Philadelphia crowd, and I’m proud to compete in a match in front of them. It’s like my hometown.”

Her thoughts on the evolution of the Knockouts division since its inception/her TNA debut four years ago: “I feel like when the Knockouts division first formed in 2007, it was the first chance for TNA to have women on the roster, to prove themselves and shine. When you’re introducing a whole bunch of women wrestlers that the TV public doesn’t know about, I feel like at first you want to leave a good impression. You want to show them what you can do in the ring and not just be some floozy character. I feel like you change with the times, so once they know you and know what you could do, then you could turn it up a notch with your character.”

What she believes should change in the TNA Knockouts division: “I kind of wish there were more women tag teams in TNA. We have the (Knockout) Tag Team Titles, and there’s not really that many women tag teams, so the Tag Team Title matches are not very often. In order to do that, we would have to get more Knockouts on the roster. That’s one of things that doesn’t shine that if given the opportunity can shine, because there are a lot of talented women in TNA. I feel that the tag teams could make it higher than where it is already.”
