Vince McMahon Announces New RAW & SmackDown Commissioners

Vince McMahon made his return to WWE television on Monday Night RAW when he revealed the new commissioners for both SmackDown and RAW. Vince came out to the ring for the final segment of RAW to announce that Shane will run SmackDown and Stephanie will run RAW, and that he wants them to compete “for real.”

Vince joined Stephanie and Shane in the ring to say that he was a little disappointed in both of them, as if neither of them came from his loins. He named Shane as SmackDown commissioner and Stephanie as RAW commissioner, and said they need to compete with ruthless aggression in ratings, ticket sales, and merchandise sales. He said whoever does a better job on their show will inherit the keys to his kingdom.

The WWE Chairman also revealed that on next Monday’s RAW, Shane and Stephanie must both pick a General Manager to help them run their shows. Vince said that if they don’t pick one next week, he’ll pick one for them.

SmackDown goes live on Tuesday nights on the USA Network starting next week on July 19th.

– We get a sneak peek at The New Day arriving on the Wyatt Family “compound.” We’ll see their battle later tonight.

– Stephanie and Shane are in the back speculating why their father Vince is coming back tonight. Seth Rollins interrupts and says Vince is coming tonight to talk to him. Seth says he has exclusive footage relating to Roman Reigns that he thinks everyone needs to see tonight. They tell him he can air it later and he promises they will enjoy it.

– Zack Ryder confronts Rusev in the back to challenge him for the U.S. Title when he gets jumped from behind by Sheamus. Sheamus says he has the next shot at Ryder, and that’s up next.

Sheamus def. Zack Ryder: The action goes to the outside early on and Ryder gets the upper hand after hitting a dropkick off the apron. Ryder misses a splash in the corner and Sheamus comes back with a running powerslam for the win. After the match, Rusev comes out and beats down Ryder and says he accepts the challenge.

Tyler Breeze & Fandango def. The Lucha Dragons: After some back and forth action in the opening minutes, Fandago slows the action down and works on Sin Cara in his team’s corner. Kalisto and Breeze get the tags. Kalisto goes for a springboard moonsault but slips off the ropes. He goes for it again and is successful this time. Sin Cara hits a splash off the top rope onto Fandango on the floor at ringside. Back in the win, Tyler Breeze hits Kalisto with a superkick then rolls him up for the win.

– Seth Rollins comes out to show his video about Roman Reigns. Rollins says he’s going to show a video of him interviewing Roman Reigns one-on-one. Rollins shows video of him asking questions with clips from old Reigns interviews edited in to make Reigns look bad. After the “interview,” Seth says Roman needs to be pulled from the triple threat match at Battleground. This brings out Dean Ambrose, who Rollins calls a coward. Ambrose says he’s the backbone of the WWE and now that he has the World Title everyone knows it.

– Sami Zayn is out to do commentary for Kevin Owens’ upcoming match, but Owens says he won’t come out to the ring until Zayn is removed. Referees are walking Zayn to the back while Owens is coming out, and the two brawl on the ramp.

– Vince McMahon pulls up backstage in a limo and says he’s going to decide on the commissioner for SmackDown live tonight.

Kevin Owens def. Cesaro: Cesaro hits a gut-wrench suplex early on for a 2 count. Cesaro hits a dropkick and goes for the swing, but Owens gets out. Owens hits a Senton bomb but Cesaro comes back with a vertical suplex and a series of uppercuts in the corners. Owens throws Cesaro to the outside floor and gets the upper hand. Back in the ring, Owens hits a neckbreaker for a near-fall. Owens hits a thumb to the eye, but Cesaro is still able to hit a corkscrew springboard uppercut for another 2, then a splash off the top rope for another near-fall. Cesaro goes for a superplex off the top, but Owens escapes, puts Cesaro up on his shoulders and hits a swinging neckbreaker for the win. Semi Zayn beats Owens down all over ringside after the match. Owens rolls back in the ring to escape and gets swung around by Cesaro.

– The Club is in the back cutting a promo on John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass. AJ makes fun of Cena for being in L.A. to practice for the Espy’s, and they reference Allen Iverson’s “we’re talkin’ about practice” speech. They say when Cena’s back they’ll beat up John Cena once again.

Titus O’Neil def. Heath Slater: The other Social Outcasts members are at ringside for this one. Titus starts off with some stiff chops to the chest. Slater comes back with a kick and a DDT for a 2 count. Titus hits a series of clotheslines and shoulder tackles before executing a series of backbreakers. Titus hits a splash in the corner then the Clash Of The Titus for the win.

– Sasha Banks is in the back cutting a promo on Dana Brooke to promote their match tonight.

– We get a recap of the feud between The New Day and the Wyatt Family, then we’re off to the Wyatt compound. We see the Wyatts and The New Day brawling in a field around a bunch of cars. Bray seems to abduct Xavier while Kofi and Big E are fighting the rest in a mud puddle. The Wyatts get the upper hand and beat down Big E and Kofi until Xavier comes back for the save. A bunch of masked people appear behind Bray and The New Day seems to retreat into the darkness.

Enzo & Amore def. Gallows & Anderson via DQ: AJ Styles is at ringside for this one. Enzo & Amore cut a promo on The Club before the match saying they’re spineless for needing to gang up on Cena. Anderson and Enzo start things off with back and forth action. Big Cass gets the tag and bodyslams Enzo into Anderson then follows up with some chops in the corner. Enzo tags in and they hit another double team move on Anderson. Gallows gets the tag and lays out Enzo with a big boot. Gallows continues with the offense until Enzo hits a tornado DDT and gets the hot tag to Cass. Anderson gets the tag and Cass lays him out with a powerslam and the Empire Elbow. Cass hits a fallaway slam and a splash in the corner, followed up by a Big Boot. He tags in Enzo and they hit the Bada Boom but Gallows breaks up the pin. AJ beats down Cass at ringside and the referee calls for the bell. The Club circles Enzo after the match, but John Cena’s music hits and he comes out for the save. Cena, Enzo and Cass all beat down The Club and clear the ring.

Sasha Banks def. Dana Brooke: Dana rolls to the outside multiple times in the opening moments to avoid offense from Sasha. Dana kicks Sasha to the floor at ringside where Charlotte gets in her face. Sasha comes back with a series of kicks and clotheslines, then hits a cross body splash off the top for a near-fall. Sasha gets out of a Death Valley Driver and gets Dana in the Banks Statement for the win. After the match, Charlotte tells Sasha she needs to have a rematch against Dana on SmackDown to get a shot at her Women’s Title.

– Shane & Stephanie McMahon come out first for the final segment of the show. They are quickly met by Vince McMahon who struts out to a good pop from the crowd. Vince says his children have been doing a pretty fair job on RAW, but that he’s personally a little disappointed in both of them, as if neither of them came from his loins. Vince says Stephanie is putting on a fake act, and that Shane doesn’t have enough ruthless aggression. Vince’s children both plead their cases to the Chairman for who should run SmackDown, and Vince decides it’ll be Shane. Vince also relieves Shane of his responsibilities on RAW, and Stephanie will be the commissioner on Mondays. Vince tells them he wants them to compete for real, in ratings, ticket sales, and merchandise sales. Vince says next week they both need to pick General Managers for their shows, and if they don’t pick one, Vince will pick one for them. Vince tells them “let the games begin” and shakes their hands. Stephanie tells Shane she’s going to make him wish he was never born. Shane tells her “game on,” and Stephanie slaps Shane across the face to close out the show.

WWE Puts In $27 Million Bid On TV Production Building In Stamford

WWE is in the running to buy a large building from a bankrupt developer in their home base city of Stamford, CT. WWE wants to acquire the old AmeriCares headquarters on Hamlton Ave in Stamford and use it as their own TV production building.

According to a report by The Stamford Advocate, WWE put a $27 million bid on the property, which is $3 million above the minimum price set by the court-approved sale coordinator. There are more than 100 bidders in the running for eight different buildings from the bankrupt developer that were made available for bidding.

“An opportunity arose that made sense for us to pursue,” WWE in a statement to the Advocate. “If we’re successful in the purchase of the building, WWE would become the building’s landlord and assumes the previous owner’s lease obligations.”

WWE reportedly abandoned their plans to begin construction on building their own TV production facility.

Post-Draft Plans For The Women’s Division, Vince Misses RAW & SmackDown, Natalya

– We don’t know why but Vince McMahon was not present for this week’s RAW and SmackDown TV tapings, which is rare. As noted earlier, Stephanie McMahon also missed this week as she was at the Cannes Lion Festival in Cannes, France.

– Earlier this week, Natalya vehemently denied reports that she is leaving WWE when her current deal expires. Natalya is signed to WWE for a significant period of time, so she won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

– When the WWE Brand Split news first broke, there was talk of keeping the WWE women’s division on just one brand. It appears WWE has changed their mind as word now is that the Women’s Champion and the division will be featured on both RAW and Smackdown when the split begins next month.

Linda McMahon On If She’s Ever Met Anyone Like Vince, WWE Being PG

Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon was recently interviewed by Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog to promote her new venture, Women’s Leadership LIVE, which strives to “educate, inspire, and empower women to stand out as catalysts for change and to build a world where women obtaining and exercising power is both expected and commonplace.”

Here are some quick highlights of what Linda McMahon said about:

WWE going PG;

“That wasn’t me, so much, moving to a PG-rating. The development of WWE programming, over time, has mirrored the market place. During the time that WWE was in the ‘Attitude Era,’ which was TV-14–if you looked at television programming and movies that were produced, they were edgier during that same time frame. Then, as that opinion shifted, WWE’s opinion shifted, as well, and sponsors had different demands. It was more of a family-friendlier audience to come back to PG-TV.”

If she’s ever met anybody like her husband:

“No, I’ve yet to meet anyone like him. I was the honors student and the civic leader in my hometown, and Vince was the local badass. There was a little bit of that bad boy aspect that I think was incredibly appealing, and it must have been–we’ll have our fiftieth anniversary this coming August. He’s one of the smartest people I know, and a very shrewd businessman.”

Triple H Says The Idea Of Vince Running With Donald Trump Is “Scary”

Triple H says his boss and father-in-law is one of the biggest influences in his life, but the idea of Vince McMahon running for public office scares him.

In a recent interview with RX Muscle, Triple H talked about NXT, his midnight workouts, and the WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Triple H says Vince is the “greatest promoter in the history of the world,” but when asked what if Donald Trump chose Vince to be his V.P., The Game said that was a “scary proposition.”

“Will Donald Trump become President? I don’t know,” Triple H quipped. The Game joked that that Trump better make sure not to make Vince his head of media.

JTG Reveals Which Qualities Vince McMahon Respects The Most In His Employees

Former WWE tag team wrestler JTG recently shared some insight into what it’s like working with Vince McMahon. On episode 120 of The Ross Report podcast, JTG discussed his relationship with the infamous WWE Chairman, saying he was always approachable.

“If I had an issue, I would just knock on his door. Or if I saw him on his phone, I would ask ‘hey, how are you doing, boss? Can we chat for a sec?’ It was that type of relationship,” JTG explained, “but it was always business.”

The Cryme Tyme member also revealed one thing that Vince likes in an employee: What Mr. McMahon would call “grapefruits.”

“One thing I do realize with Vince, is that he respects balls and he respects confidence,” said the former WWE Superstar.

JTG says he always felt “very comfortable” around The McMahon family when he worked for WWE. You can listen to the entire podcast here.

Heat Between McMahon & Goldberg Reportedly Prevented Previous 2K Deals

Some new details are coming out about Bill Goldberg’s deal with 2K Sports for the upcoming WWE 2K17 video game. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that they first tried to sign Goldberg for previous games, but it was none other than WWE Chairman Vince McMahon who put a stop to that.

Goldberg didn’t leave WWE on good terms back in 2004. Meltzer reports that the split left McMahon so negative on the former World Heavyweight Champion that when WWE was in talks to sign UFC’s Mike Goldberg as an announcer, McMahon wanted him to change his name for that reason. The original plan for Goldberg’s arrival in WWE was for him to work a series of three matches against The Rock, but those plans changed to what we ended up seeing on WWE TV when Rock’s movie career took off.

As previously noted, WWE’s Goldberg DVD garnered better sales than the company expected, which could have lead to Vince McMahon signing off on him being included in 2K17.

Vince McMahon Deposed In WWE Concussion Lawsuit

Vince McMahon is scheduled to be deposed in the lawsuit against WWE by former wrestlers Vito Lo Grasso and Evan Singleton today. Stephanie McMahon, Dr. Chris Amann and Christopher Nowinski, who heads up the Concussion Legacy Foundation, will also be deposed. Triple H will be deposed next Tuesday and Dr. Joseph Maroon was deposed on 5/20.

WWE argued against Stephanie being included as they had already made the other employees available. The Judge made the following ruling:

“WWE made Levesque available previously to testify before Congress on issues related to the safety of its wrestlers. Although the Court rejected Plaintiff’s fraudulent misrepresentation claims on the basis of that testimony, WWE has not demonstrated that Levesque is not an appropriate deponent on the issues of whether WWE had a duty, and whether that duty was breached, to disclose knowledge of long term health risks caused by repeated head trauma. The parties are ordered to work cooperatively to schedule a deposition based on the witness’ availability, which may be conducted up to fourteen days after the current discovery deadline.”

WWE’s Plans For Big Dual-Brand Episodes Of RAW, Announcers For PPVs

There are more new details coming out about WWE’s plans for the return of the draft split, which Vince McMahon is reportedly very excited about. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Live, WWE is already planning some dual-brand episodes of RAW through next year’s WrestleMania.

WWE is reportedly working on two big episodes of RAW for the night after SummerSlam and the night after WrestleMania. The two episodes will likely be the only times members of both the RAW and SmackDown rosters will be on the same TV show.

Both rosters will be present on WWE’s pay-per-view events, and according to Wrestling Observer Live there will be two announce teams for all PPVs. Just like during the previous roster split, RAW announcers will be on hand to call RAW talents’ matches, and SmackDown talents’ matches will have their own announcers.

There are still a lot of unknown details as many people in WWE did not know exactly what was going down.

Vince McMahon is said to be full of ideas and “pumped up” for the changes. It was also reported that WWE is expected to aggressively pursue outside talents to fill up the rosters – two main rosters and NXT.

Vince McMahon Sells Almost $40 Million Worth Of WWE Stock

Vince McMahon has reportedly sold 2,191,894 shares of WWE stock this week. According to an SEC document filed on Monday, the WWE Chairman sold the shares for approximately $40 million. Vince’s ownership is currently at 48.8% of the company, the first time he hasn’t had majority shares since 1999.

WWE issued a statement on the sale, saying it was done for personal liquidity and asset diversification purposes and that there aren’t any plans to sell the company. McMahon said he’ll be staying with WWE in his role as Chairman and CEO for the “foreseeable future.”

The company noted that McMahon doesn’t plan on selling any more of his stock after Monday. “The 2,191,894 shares sold by the GRAT represent approximately 6% of the Company’s outstanding shares of Class A common stock,” the company reported. “After the sale, Mr. McMahon beneficially owns 37,080,747 shares of the Company’s Class B common stock, which represents approximately 86% of the Company’s total voting power and approximately 48.8% of the Company’s total outstanding shares of common stock.”

Update On Lilian Garcia’s WWE Status, Luke Gallows Talks Past Gimmicks and Vince McMahon

– There has been speculation and rumors over Lilian Garcia’s status in WWE after not appearing on television the past two weeks. She indicated this morning that she will be back on Raw next Monday.

– Speaking to CultOfWhatever.com, Luke Gallows discusses his original stint in WWE, getting the opportunity to work with childhood heroes Sting and Hulk Hogan in TNA, being a member of the Bullet Club, and more.

On his original stint with WWE (2006-2010):

My first gig in WWE was being imposter Kane, then Festus before my buddy CM Punk and I created the Straight Edge Society. The Festus character was the brainchild of Vince McMahon, he came up with it and I did it to the best of my ability.

During the time of the Straight Edge Society, CM Punk was really starting to become one of the top stars on television and they really began to trust him and would give him creative freedom to go out there. Just watching and learning from a guy like that was an awesome experience.

The way Punk could control peoples emotions and captivate a whole crowd, he is just a fantastic performer, he always was but that is when he was really stepping up and it was a really fun time for me.

On how he would describe Vince McMahon as a boss:

Vince has never been bad to me, I’ve heard people say things but he’s never been bad to me directly. I’ve not had a tonne of interaction with him, maybe I’ve been in his office two or three times. He kind-of directed us on some of the Straight Edge Society stuff as well as the Jessie and Festus stuff. Vince is a larger than life personality; you cannot but admire what he has done for our industry.

Vince On Shane’s Role In WWE, Several Injured Stars Returning In The Next Month

On WWE’s first-quarter 2016 earnings conference call, Vince McMahon confirmed that Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins and John Cena are all scheduled to return to action soon. The WWE Chairman says all four men are expected to be back in the ring full-time in the next month.

McMahon also noted that 13 wrestlers have been called up to the main roster. He says there will be more new talent called up soon.

Cena’s return on the May 30th episode of RAW has been heavily promoted on WWE TV this month. He’s been out of action with a shoulder injury. Orton’s been out of action after also suffering a shoulder injury several months ago. Rollins underwent surgery on his ACL, MCL and medial meniscus in his right knee in November. Seth Green Talks Camp WWE, Working with Vince McMahon & More

Seth Green recently spoke with WWE.com about his new Camp WWE animated series on the WWE Network. After hosting the 2014 Slammy Awards, WWE realized that he had an animation studio and pitched him the concept of Camp WWE. To his understanding, the show was Vince McMahon’s idea. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

How Receptive Mr. McMahon Was To Be Part Of The Show:

“Originally, we had just assumed that we’d have all actors and hadn’t thought that anybody would want to play themselves. But when they proposed the idea of Vince playing Vince, that just gave us a completely different opportunity for the kind of content that we would write. He’s an expert performer for over 30 years and we had no doubt that we could enhance his existing characteristics into absurdity and that he would be an expert at performing it. And we were right. I don’t think people are ready, man.”

If He & Vince Ever Butted Heads During Production:

“You know, he’s easy, man. You don’t have to give Vince McMahon a ton of direction. He’s got natural inclination. Sometimes, I needed to say, “Vince, step on this word a little harder,” or “Hold that beat just a little bit” or tone that down or big that up, but, you know, I’m not teaching him anything.”

When asked if he’s got any storyline ideas ready for a potential second season, Green said that he could see the show going for 10 seasons. Head over to WWE.com to read the full interview.

A new episode of Camp WWE premieres tonight on the WWE Network immediately after RAW.
