Vince McMahon Congratulates Darren Young, Mick Foley Talks Daniel Bryan

– WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley recently spoke to Newsday about his smashing of a television set in protest of WWE’s usage of Daniel Bryan. When asked if it made him feel better, Foley replied:

“A little bit, but once the family forbid me to do it live, or in the house, the act lost most of its power. But technically, I did break a TV in protest — even if my swing lacked a follow-through, a habit developed through hitting thousands of fly balls to my son in our backyard — where a follow-through would have meant pulling the ball to left, into the neighbor’s yard.”

– Vince McMahon posted a new tweet on his official Twitter account congratulating Darren Young for his GLAAD Nomination for “Outstanding Talk Show Episode.” McMahon tweeted:

    – Despite Sin Cara’s renewed push on WWE television, f4wonline.com reports that WWE has essentially given up on the character. The reason Sin Cara remains on television is due to strong merchandise sales and the character appearing in WWE’s upcoming Scooby Doo animated movie.

The following are highlights of a recent interview with Pat Patterson. In the interview, Patterson discusses the origins of the Royal Rumble match concept.

On Vince McMahon’s initial reaction to the Royal Rumble match concept: “I used to talk to Vince [McMahon] about the Royal Rumble idea, even though I didn’t call it by that name, and Vince couldn’t visualize that.”

On pitching the idea to NBC executive Dick Ebersole: “I described what the concept would be and Dick Ebersol went crazy. He loved it. He said, ‘That would be so great for live television. Every two minutes another wrestler comes running in and you don’t know who it is until you hear the buzzer!’ So Vince went, ‘You’re on your own. You’re going to have to do it yourself. You’re going to have to produce it.’ Holy crap. It sounded good in my head, but to put it together was another story.”

As far as the timeline for Ultimate Warrior’s return to WWE, Triple H reportedly met with him the same day 2K Sports held a press event to announce Warrior for the WWE 2K14 video game.

As far as Vince McMahon is concerned, he met with Warrior for the first time during SummerSlam weekend in August. The two were scheduled to have a 30-minute meeting, but ended up spending several hours behind closed doors. The two worked out their issues and began working on a deal to bring Warrior in for the Hall Of Fame and WrestleMania XXX weekend. The deal was reportedly finalized in December, somewhere around Christmas.

  • 1991 Letters Between Ultimate Warrior & Vince McMahon Refute ‘SummerSlam 91’ Story

The Ultimate Warrior will be making his first WWE appearance in 18 years when he gets inducted into WWE Hall of Fame on April 5th, 2014. A big part of Warrior’s most recent fallout with WWE involved the “Self Destruction Of The Ultimate Warrior” DVD (2005), which featured many WWE legends (as well as Vince McMahon) burying Warrior for his unprofessional conduct in the early 1990’s. One event in particular was that “Warrior held up Vince McMahon for money backstage at SummerSlam 1991.”  The Ultimate Warrior vehemently denied this story and provided proof in court back in 2009 that prove the story is completely false.

Below is the letter that The Ultimate Warrior wrote to Vince McMahon a month before SummerSlam 1991. On Page 2, you’ll see Vince McMahon’s letter to The Ultimate Warrior, agreeing to Warrior’s request, apologizing for their dispute and expressing his desire to continue their working relationship.

Here are the letters from Ultimate Warrior to Vince McMahon (7/10/1991), click to enlarge:

    6LkTqYis IOI5uo9s  hXyiWsws  HLhtPdIs 6LkTqYis

    Here’s the letter transcribed:

    “Vince,

Writing this is a different approach in expressing my feelings about the things we discussed the last 2 days under the pressure of TV. Knowing that any second someone would be knocking on the door, etc. Every other avenue we tried – via phone, face to face, myself still walking away with unanswered questions. Always put off till a later date. Always with the same result – no result.

Writing sometimes allows a person to express feelings or say things that don’t come in conversations such as we have. Some of the things will once again become repetitive – so what I’ve heard “in an Essence” at least a million times. I’ve tried to speak as a friend but sometimes you don’t hear. I’ve spoken as a professional but the direction always gets changed. No, you never let me leave without a response, but the words you speak never have any definitives. My whole life for the last 5 years has had no room for anything but definitives (Los Angeles on Thurs, San Diego on Friday, San Francisco Sat. Sacramento on Sunday, Prime Time on Monday…) but you always have to have the best way of time. Time to say stew things over to work them your way.

I have been from day 1 different from the others. I have sacrificed myself enough both in my personal life and physical well being. The fairness you say you want everyone to have is unfair to me. I grew in 5 years to become what the “Ultimate Warrior” is today, Always questioning, but nonetheless taking him in the direction you wanted him to go past any particular time. Done what would and has taken other 10-15 years.

The points and suggestions you have made over the last 5 years were very well taken. Now I look at other individuals with less than 1/3 the creativity, desire and hunger I had (have) and wonder how you can look and see them as The One. For you as a friend I pray all the things you believe in rise to the surface and present themselves.

Then there is the side that says “What the f man?” When I was thought of as The One the topics of conversation were – “Treat the veterans with respect”. The veterans you spite are the very ones who will fuck it up for you. No matter, I listened. I would go to ring push myself to the brink of a heart attack and you would say “When you go to the corner – SMILE”?!?! You spoke of the Ultimate Warrior appealing to all, old, young, ugly, beautiful, fat, skinny, black, white.

A character who would show ups and downs emotions and intensities, sensitivities and cold-heartedness when it was needed. Like a yo-yo I obliged so I could be The One. Where the hell are this man’s ups and downs. – Total jugular-vein popping yelling at all times. Is this the Total Picture, character, or presentation that can be The One? I learned with you to show intensity at this level but also to show just as much intensity with the look of my eyes or with the whisper of my voice or even better – extreme intensity in total silence. I did all you asked.

The the long-term plan changed. At first I was reluctant for what I believed were the right reasons – but once again I went with what I knew I could believe in – “Vince has never fucked me.” I dealt with what you thought was best no matter what the cost to me, no matter the countless # of sleepless nights there were to come, no matter the # of times I had to knock on your door with questions I should never have had.

For the last 2 1/12 years I should have never had the questions I did. To stand and make a videotaped apology for something I never did made me realize all we have is business.

Once again I went without sleep, if ever I do so again it will be because I elect to, not because my wandering mind says to do so.

In reaching this conclusion I ask for these things. You say 500,000 for Wrestlemania is unfair, then I say the last 8 1/2 years of not being compensated equally when I meant as much or more to the company was total bullshit and most definitely unfair. I have sacrificed more than 500,000 more than 1 million dollars, even more in monies that should have been paid to mein receiving equal compensation as Hulk.

I paid my goddamn dues long ago. I need not pay anymore. I have given everything and never once was there a knock on my fucking door. Whether to bullshit as a friend or help me thru my times of need or you trusting me to help you thru yours.

I ask for these things Vince and the answers must come for the next event is upon you. It has been for me the 5 years and for you to tell me you need to ealuate whether or not I’m cost-effective and this takes time us unfair. A show runs at a given time and date – I have always been there, never asking for time to see if I have the rest, food or whatever it takes to make it. Now I ask the same of you.

I want (1) $550,000 release from the monies alloted me to purchase my home. This will suffice as my Wrestlemania VII payoff, but let it be noted it is not fair. I meant as much or more to that show as Hulk – I deserve to be paid the same (I know what Hulk will get)
    (2) 4 days off every other time off period – except Pay Per View only.
    (3) I want the same pay cut as Hulk gets on all Pay-Per-Views, SNME, FRIDAY PRIMETIME, house shows and proof as such. The same pay cut applies to what Hulk has been paid with relationshio to past events Wrestlemania V, VI, VII i.e when Hulk was top draw.
    (4) I want numbers and prove of monies done on 1-900-Hulk and likewise same pay cut.
    (5) Same pay cut on all forms of merchandising.

Because I have had to always knock on your door, words alone are not good enough. I understand Doug Sages is on Vacation, call him take his days off away like you do to the boys and myself and have it written. Everytime I had to knock upon your door upon leaving I have always apologized. I no longer feel I have any reason to apologize, therefore I will not. I have tried to speak as a friend, but maybe I don’t have the qualities you required to seek me out as a friend. The videotaped apology was the icing on the cake – you see it as business so whether I like it or not I must do the same. Whatever your decision I can and will live with it. Till then I remain home with one who cares.

Vince McMahon Claims He Rejected Cable/Satellite Offer For WWE Network

WWE CEO Vince McMahon stated in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times that he turned down an offer for a commercial cable network and a pay channel model, similar to HBO.

WWE apparently had a deal on the table with major distributors that would have generated a reported 20 cents per month, per subscriber, had they gone that route. “I said, much to the chagrin of my staff, I’m not going to sign it,” said McMahon in the L.A. Times interview.

McMahon added that the terms pay-television distributors wanted were “too restrictive.”

  • Jerry Lawler Talks Health Scare, Explains Why He Was Pulled From Commentary

WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler appeared on the WREG-3 local television show in Memphis recently to discuss the health scare he experienced this past Monday in Baltimore, Maryland.

Lawler told the hosts of the show that he went to lunch with his girlfriend and his stomach was feeling “queasy” before his food arrived. His said his girlfriend contacted his son Brian Lawler (aka Grandmaster Sexay) and told him. After that, the word apparently spread among the other wrestlers in the building at Old School RAW. As a result of the word getting around, Lawler was sent to the local hospital for a medical evaluation.

Lawler then said that despite it being revealed that he was battling a minor stomach flu, Vince McMahon made the call to pull him from television commentary that evening as a precautionary measure.

“The King” also mentioned that there ended up being even more fan concern due to the fact that he did not appear on the Old School RAW show. He said it was merely a 24-hour virus that his girlfriend is now battling.

  • Update On The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Opponent, Warrior Negotiating With Vince McMahon

    – With WrestleMania XXX just 3 months away, WWE has still not finalized who will be challenging the Undertaker’s streak this year. Brock Lesnar has long been the front runner to face the Dead Man, however, there is one big obstacle that might prevent the match from happening.

Not many people know this, but over the past few years, The Undertaker has rehearsed his WrestleMania matches with his opponents. Shawn Michaels, Triple H and CM Punk have all spend considerable time with the Undertaker planning out their matches in the weeks leading up to their matches at WrestleMania. Due to the nature of Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract, he is only required to travel a certain number of times per year for WWE. Training with The Undertaker to prepare for a WrestleMania match would exceed the terms of his agreement with WWE.

It’s possible WWE could negotiate with Lesnar and convince him to do what’s necessary to make The Undertaker comfortable with a match – but this is the reason John Cena and Daniel Bryan are still being considered as his possible opponents this year.

    – WWE legend the Ultimate Warrior in currently talks with Vince McMahon about a WWE Hall of Fame induction and an appearance at WrestleMania XXX. Warrior is speaking strictly with Vince, having no contact with Triple H or anybody else in the company.

As previously reported, WWE will be releasing a new Ultimate Warrior DVD the week of WrestleMania, so a few TV appearances in April would help with the promotion of that project.

    – Despite rumors, it appears Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract is an exclusive deal, one that does not expire until after WrestleMania 31 in 2015. Word is that people in WWE can’t believe Vince McMahon would allow Lesnar to sign a deal with WWE that would allow him to fight in UFC at the same time.

  • Rhino Talks About Vince McMahon Interrupting His Match, Breaking Into WWE

Former WWE, TNA & ECW star Rhino joined the Inside The Ropes podcast and spoke about some of the key moments of his WWE run. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His start in WWE in 2001: “Edge, Christian and I were all buddies and I think they’d (the office) said something like they wanted me to be their brother. Edge was like, “No, you know, people know him as Rhino, they know we’re buddies, so just tag him along with us, use him as our muscle.”

“I remember the first live promo I did and I just shit the bed. I was just so nervous. I didn’t know what they wanted me to say but y’know, I then went on and wrestled on the road for a little bit in dark matches and stuff.

“I wrestled Steve Lombardi and he was actually the one that gave me The Gore as a finish. I used to use it in ECW as a cut off and use the piledriver for the finish. But I used to be really creative, goring people through tables and shit like that. So then I’m working with Lombardi, Brooklyn Brawler, on the house show loop and I hit him with the gore and then I’d pick him up and do a TKO. So the second night he said, “Just hit me with the gore and pin me on that. You pick me up for the TKO and it doesn’t get a reaction.” I remember thinking maybe he just didn’t wanna take it, but he was right. The gore would get a bigger reaction when I’d set up for it in the corner and ya know, the rest is history.”

Vince McMahon coming out and interrupting his August 2003 house show match with Tajiri: “Before the show, he was on the house show loop. So before the match he said something like, “You can’t do anything wrong in the match, just call it out there,” blah blah blah.

“Nassau Coliseum is a tough building. We’re out there and Tajiri won’t call shit and you heard what the boss said. We went out there and before [the match], one of the agents told us if they chant “boring,” don’t do anything, just sit on the hold. So you’re getting mixed instructions, but I’ve worked with Tajiri like 1000 times.

“So we’re in the hold, they chant “boring” and Vince comes out telling us to go home and I’m thinking, “He’s trying to kick us out the ring thinking lets see what they do if I throw a monkey wrench into their match.” I thought he was just working so I’m like, “What are you gonna do? Fire me?” So he tells Brian (Hebner) to tell Tajiri to dropkick me and go to the back and I’m like, “Oh shit, he’s serious.”

“So we go to the back, I go take a shower, then I go talk to him. I think he actually felt bad. He said, “The fans were chanting “boring” and you had him in a hold.” I said to him, “I was told by one of your agents, if they chant “boring,” then sit in the hold.” So yeah, that was it. I actually got a very good payoff for that match. That’s why I think he felt bad about it.”

Jericho & Edge Talk About Cena Squashing Nexus, Edge’s First WWE Title Win

WWE Hall of Famer Edge returned to Chris Jericho’s “Talk Is Jericho” podcast this week for the second part of their interview. During the show, the two revealed some interesting news about the year John Cena squashed Nexus at SummerSlam. The original plans called for the match to come down to Edge and Jericho vs. Nexus, however, John Cena squashed the idea and decided to he would be the last man standing, taking out both Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel. Cena would later regret the decision.

Chris Jericho: “It was Team WWE vs. Team Nexus, and the finish boiled down to [Edge] and [Jericho] in there, but it was Cena against a couple of them. John wanted to do things a certain way and we told him ‘you’re wrong’. He did it anyways, and it sucked. And then after he came over to us and said ‘I should have listened to you, but I wasn’t seeing it that way.'”

Edge: “I remember. I was like, fine I’m out of the match by that point.”

Chris Jericho: “He wanted to get DDT’d on the floor by Barrett, then kick out and beat them both. And you and I were like, that’s the dumbest thing. That’s just throwing it away for no reason.”

Edge: “They should have gone over because they were so hot.”

Chris Jericho: “We were fighting for Barrett to go over. And where’s Wade Barrett now?”

Edge also spoke out about why he was successful the first time he won the WWE Championship from John Cena, and how Vince McMahon played a big role in that success.

“I had Vince on my side. Vince was the only guy who believed I could break through … The week before New Year’s Revolution I said ‘Vince I got an idea. I’m a heel. I’m probably the most despised guy in the company. If I cash this thing in after I’ve held it for ten months, in a straight-up match, that’s really stupid on my part, as a character. I can cash it in whenever. Why wouldn’t I do it after the Elimination Chamber?” … “I get there and Vince says, ‘prove me right.’ You can see when I hand that briefcase over to him, he says ‘prove me right’. They were only gonna give me three weeks. But in those three weeks I did everything I could to make them change their mind. 25 million hits on WWE.com the night I won the title. Big ratings.”

Surprising Plans For The WrestleMania 30 Main Event

    – Should the legendary Hulk Hogan be unable to compete alongside John Cena at WrestleMania XXX on April 6, 2014 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, one scenario being discussed for the WrestleMania 30 main event would be John Cena facing Bray Wyatt.

WWE chief Vince McMahon recently stated to the writers and producers that “Cena is the main event until his time is clearly up. That man feeds us!”

    – It was announced at tonight’s WWE live event at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois that Raw will be held at the venue on Monday, March 3, 2014. A Ticketmaster.com pre-sale is underway now through January 2, 2014 with WWERAW as the password.

    – The latest issue of WWE Magazine (cover-dated January 2014) features the 2013 WWE Magazine Awards and Goldust was honored with the “You Still Got It” Award for his extraordinary comeback at the age of 44.

“I’ve been busting my butt in the gym and staying focused, because that’s what it’s about,” he remarked. “I know that I can still go with the youngest and best Superstars on the roster right now. The Royal Rumble was very special. And nothing touched it until my brother and I became Tag Team Champions. I’ve been wrestling for 25 years and that might be the biggest moment of my career.”

Backstage Update On Batista’s Return: How Long Will He Be Back?, More

The deal for Batista to return during WrestleMania XXX season is something he and Triple H have been working on for a few months. Batista is scheduled to work some television tapings, pay-per-views and even some of WWE’s non-televised live events. The deal calls for Batista to stick around for at least some time after WrestleMania XXX in April.

Before announcing his return on RAW on Monday night, the original plan called for Batista to return as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble. WWE had copy of the promotional materials that were scheduled to be sent to local arenas and apparently those were sent out prematurely without notice that Batista’s inclusion in them was to be held off until he officially debuted at the Rumble.

Apparently as a result of the information leaking early on official arena websites, among other places, WWE was quite upset. One source joked that it was a good thing Vnice McMahon was overseas visiting the U.S. Troops when the news leaked, or he may have killed someone.

One person who recently saw Batista this past weekend noted that he has put on a lot of size and muscle and appears to be more ripped than usual.

  • Former WWE Superstar Recalls Rib Involving Randy Orton And The Police

SESCOOPS.COM reader Phil Johnson sent along the following:

Former WWE Superstar Mark Jindrak, who is now known as Marco Corleone, has published a new column at PWMania.com. Jindrak goes in depth and talks about why he got pulled from Evolution and replaced by Batista, recalling times when he and Randy Orton were acting immature including photos from a prank that went wrong involving himself, Orton and the cops. Jindrak also recalls when Vince McMahon told him that he was being pulled from Evolution. Here is an excerpt from his article:

“Randy and I, with the help of Maven, pulled off a great joke on this night [2003 Raw event]. However it went a bit rockier than we expected. We were the last wrestlers in the place. There was probably 5-6 police officers outside to keep the crowd in check. There was one officer that was inside that we conversed with and saw that he was cool. So we asked him if he would step in and just break us up if we started a fake fight outside. He agreed and we set a whole plan up for when we got outside. Outside we started arguing back and forth until it turned to shoving. It was only supposed to be shoving but with the passion that Orton and I had for a great “rib”, turned to some pretty stiff forearms and punches.

The cop that was supposed to break us up, got thrown off to the side during the struggle which brought in the other police officers that were unaware it was a joke. When they tried to restrain us, we thought they were going along with us as well. So it really turned to mayhem when we threw them off us too. Maven was trying to stop us but he got wrapped up in the craziness as well. Finally they grabbed us and we all got on the same page. They put Randy in the cop car and told Maven and I to meet them at the gas station down the road. So we did and that capped off our joke. I think the best thing about the fight was our jumpsuits. A day before, we wrestled in Springfield, Massachusetts, home of the basketball hall of fame. Therefore we got a great price on some badass NBA Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics velour jumpsuits. Haha”

“On June 23, 2003, after Raw finished in Madison Square Garden, Vince McMahon wanted to see me in his office backstage. He had told me that he thought it would be in my best interest if they held me out of the group. He told me they had plans of putting me in a tag team with Garrison Cade. He thought I would be best suited as a babyface at this time starting out. I was upset being pulled from this group, but immaturity didn’t let it hit home too much. I figured I’m just going in a different direction, cool. In all actuality Vince was letting me down easy and I appreciate it years later. Then again, I didn’t even realize I just lost out on making millions and millions of dollars and many championship opportunities.”

The following are highlights from a recent Under The Mat interview with former WWE Superstar Ahmed Johnson:

On facing racial issues during his WWE run: “I go out to the parking lot and one of them boys scratched on my car ‘Congratulations N*****!’ Come on Dog what kind of s*** is that? I went straight to Vince and they acted all concerned but they didn’t even bring it up in the big meeting.”

On an idea Vince McMahon had for his character in WWE: “You know I dress how I dress, relax and cool. Shane McMachon comes to me one time and says his dad wants him to change how he dresses. Now this isn’t on TV, this is off TV. They wanted me to get a Gold Tooth, a bunch of chains, and wear my pants sagging. That’s what they wanted me to dress like right before I walked out of there. They want that image of an unintelligent dumbass n***** that what they were shooting for.”

On his reaction to being kissed on the lips by Goldust: “Oh, he got me! Let me tell you how it was supposed to go down. First of all, that was a live TV taping so whatever happened happened. So me and Goldust went over this shit over and over again during the pre-tape.
