Bryan Replacing Cena, Cena’s Real Expected Return, Vince McMahon’s Birthday

-WWE has recently updated their advertising for upcoming live events now that John Cena will no longer be able to appear on them. The biggest shuffle is Daniel Bryan being moved from the “B” shows to the “A” shows, in place of Cena as the singles headliner.

-Speaking of Cena, while publicly the statement from both he and the WWE side is that they are expecting him back by WrestleMania, apparently the expectation is that he will be back in time for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. That would be just under five months after his surgery, which is pushing the recovery process slightly. As noted, especially with Cena, returning sooner than scheduled when dealing with injuries is not out of the ordinary.

-WWE CEO Vince McMahon celebrates his 68th birthday this Saturday. McMahon was born on August 24, 1945.

-ESPN personality and former WWE broadcaster Jonathan Coachman appeared on the “Mike and Mike” show this morning on ESPN Radio answering questions from Twitter regarding WWE.

-Sources are reporting that while Randy Orton may not cash in (although he very well could) he is expected to be involved in the finish of the John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan WWE Championship main event at SummerSlam on Sunday.

Jim Ross Q&A: Superstars Switching From Heel To Face Too Often, WWE Stage Setup, More

The following are highlights from the latest online Q&A from the official website of WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On whether Backlash or Extreme Rules is a better follow-up to WrestleMania: “It all depends on the attractions….the talents invovled.”

On if anyone can match Shawn Michaels in his prime: “NXT will continue to make major contributions to the WWE primary roster over time. Some really good, potential stars there.”

On if RAW and SmackDown should go back to the elaborate stage set ups: “I haven’t given that much thought. Not big on my radar.”

On WWE switching talent from heel to face too often, specifically Alberto Del Rio: “Decision makes, due to the lack of main event depth, are constantly looking for the best roles for their top guys. ADR as a fan favorite was an experiment in my view but he’s a better villain.”

On which wrestling schools are the best: “Start with Lance Storm’s Academy in Calgary and take it from there.”

On if we’ll see the return of “The Stooges” Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco in the current HHH/Vince McMahon power struggle: “Highly unlikely.”

McMahon Not Liking The Way Christian Looks, Details On Past HBK/Angle Altercation

Former WWE head writer Alex Greenfield recently spoke to John Pollock of The Fight Network this week to discuss a number of WWE related topics. Below are highlights from their discussion:

On Vince McMahon wanting to censor Christian’s face on TV with a blue dot: “Right before I started, there was a big show, I think it might have been in Toronto. Christian was just so completely over, and everybody thought he was going to get a push at, I think it was the World Heavyweight Championship at that point. We were on the plane one time shortly after I started, and Vince was just like “God damn, I just don’t like his face. His face really bothers me.” I was like, “He’s ugly, Vince?” “No, it’s not that he’s ugly, it’s just, I don’t know, it’s ratty! You know what we should do? That Kennedy gimmick.” And we’re all like, “What?” Some see-on of the Kennedy fortune I guess got arrested for rape in the 1990s at some point. When the woman who was accusing him was on the stand, all of the networks put a blue dot over her face. Vince was like, “God damn, you know what we should do? We should put a blue dot over his face whenever he comes out.” It was the flight to Sheffield, England, also the flight where the Spirit Squad idea was invented. This was a whole flight of bad ideas.”

On a backstage segment Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels had in 2005: “I always found Shawn to be an entitled prick. He tried this s*** with Angle one night; Angle wasn’t having it, and threw him around like a rag-doll. I remember I was supposed to do some sort of stand-up interview, a backstage deal with Angle afterward, and Shawn comes up like a house of fire, like “You were taking liberties!” And it’s because Shawn was booked to lose a match and started his overselling nonsense, because that’s the kind of thing he always did because he’s a guy who hated losing. I don’t argue with anyone that, when he’s working with friends in exactly the way he wants, yes, he’s one of the best performers of all time. That doesn’t mean you’re one of the best performers of all time, though, if you can’t do it with people who aren’t your friends.”

Vince McMahon Believes He Taught Daniel Bryan ‘How To Be A Star’

Though Vince McMahon’s television character is portrayed as having a strong distaste for Daniel Bryan, in reality, the WWE Chairman and CEO thinks quite highly of the wrestler once known as the “American Dragon.”

In response to a rumor on the F4WOnline.com message board concerning McMahon’s relationship with Bryan, Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer revealed how the organization head perceives the wrestling standout. According to Meltzer, McMahon legitimately believes he taught Bryan “how to be a star.”

“Vince believes he took a guy who was very good technically but had no personality and taught him how to be a star,” wrote Meltzer. “If anything, he believes he was more right than anyone on him.”

Jim Ross Blog: McMahons & Daniel Bryan, Wyatt Family, Ryback

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. In this installment, JR wrote about Monday’s RAW and the premiere of Total Divas. Here are some highlights:

McMahon Family & Daniel Bryan: The end game for the McMahon Family conflict interests me especially considering that #1 contender for the WWE Title @WWEDanielBryan is in the middle of it. Where is this matter heading? I’m happy that I have no idea. If Daniel Bryan were to win the WWE Title at Summer Slam, how would that affect the ‘family’ dynamic? Hmmm”

Ryback: “Ryback had a good night even in a losing effort in the Tables Match vs. @JohnCena. Ryback seems to really enjoy his antagonist role and it fits him better and better each week. Being a great, wrestling villain is a skill that isn’t easily or quickly acquired. If Ryback had came along in the 70’s or 80’s, some promoter likely would have made him a ‘Russian’ or another non American to capitalize on a Nationalism story.”

The Wyatt Family: “I’d be remiss without noting that The Wyatt Family had a solid night on RAW and that their vignettes introducing them to the WWE Universe were more golden than many perceive. They had an identity before they ever showed up in person on RAW. Reminds me of how Bill Watts established the Rock ‘n Roll Express in the Mid South Territory using music videos before Morton and Gibson physically arrived in the 80’s.”

Update On Kassius Ohno’s Heat With Management, Ultimate Warrior Hall Of Fame Buzz

– With Vince McMahon personally welcoming the Ultimate Warrior back to WWE and Warrior posting a lengthy message to Vince on Twitter suggesting they meet in person (Read Here), there is renewed speculation that Warrior will be part of the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2014.

– It was reported last week that WWE developmental talent Kassius Ohno (formerly Chris Hero) is in the doghouse because he has not taken seriously WWE’s instruction that he needs to work on his physique. Hero reportedly angered Triple H by not working out enough and was pulled from the past 2 NXT television tapings.

After hero was pulled from those shows (and other NXT live events) he reportedly told that he needs to concentrate all his efforts on his physique and his strength/conditioning training. Ohno gets great reviews for his in-ring work, mic skills and overall attitude, but WWE officials will not bring him up to the main roster until he gets in better physical shape.

He is now back on the road with NXT and is scheduled for upcoming live events.

D’Lo Brown Speaks On His TNA Release, Compares Dixie Carter To Vince McMahon

The following are highlights from a recent interview with former TNA employee D’Lo Brown:

On his TNA release: “I guess it was just time for a change. We had talked earlier in the week about doing a new deal. The circumstances changed that following monday and got a call that following day saying we are going to part company. I was shocked you know and it came from left field but you just have to move on.”

“You deal with what live gives you and if you dwell on the past you are going to stay there. I thanked them for my time there. Told them i had 4 great years. Maybe we can work together again in the future but for right now we are just going to part ways.”

On if he feels TNA is a sinking ship: “I wouldn’t say it’s a sinking ship. I’d rather say they are going through growing pains. The large extent of taking impact on the road, that load is probably [inaudible] the company right now. It’s kind of like prunning a tree. You trim a tree down to it’s core and hopefully it will survive, grow and bloom. Hopefully a year later it will be bigger, stronger than ever. So to me it just seems like they are going through some growing pains. The restructuring is just a way of shoring up the ship.”

On releasing low-level talent instead of higher priced talent: “That’s the million dollar question. I wasn’t in the office on the talent side. That’s a good question to put out there. I’m not sure the answer. I don’t think anyone outside of the company on that side would be privy to that. There are times when you look at it and the decisions don’t make sense.”

“They are going to do what they need to do to strengthen the company. A lot of people will scratch their head and a lot of people will wonder and shake their head, question and build their own hypothesis and try to figure whats going on. At the end of the day, nobody in that company knows what’s really going to happen except those in charge of the finances.”

On the power structure in TNA: “Dixie is very hands on. There are execs that make some decisions but Dixie is the one that has the final say on the product. Dixie is very hands on I’ll give her that. She is right there in the trenches with every body else. Every time i was in the office, I would sit in her office or walked by her office and she is always on the phone handling business. She is right there working hard with every body else.”

On comparisons between Dixie Carter and Vince McMahon: “They both have their positives and negatives. They are both alike in many ways. They are both driven, they both want their companies to succeed, they are willing to do it at any cost. If anything i believe TNA promotes a more family friendly atmosphere for the talent. It’s not uncommon to have the boys backstage with their families at the house show or on tv. That kind of wasn’t allowed with Vince.”

Ultimate Warrior Talks Ryback & CM Punk, Randy Savage Road Story

WWE legend The Ultimate Warrior recently spoke to the New York Daily News to promote his involvement in the new WWE 2K14 video game. Here are some highlights of what Warrior said about:

If He Watches WWE, CM Punk & Ryback:

“I know some of the characters, but I don’t watch it. I like all the guys. I guess because I don’t know anybody, I like them all.”

“You would think maybe I would go for a Ryback guy. He’s impressive. He’s a monster of a guy. I don’t go against him, but I’m indifferent. I know a little about CM Punk, in that he does his own thing. I’m inspired by people who do that in their own life. That they just do their own thing no matter what the consequences are.”

His Career Highlight:

“My match with Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VI. The buildup to that, where the business was at the time. Prior to Wrestlemania, usually they would do an angle where Hogan’s best friend would backstab him out of jealousy or envy. Cut some promos and say, “if only I had the chance for a match I could take (Hogan).” That’s how they’d set up the match.”

“But the Ultimate Warrior was becoming so popular and selling so much merchandise at the time that if they’d done that they would have slit their own wrists. So they did a match where it was the Warriors vs. the Gladiators. And then a bunch of urban legend stuff has grown out of that.”

A Memorable Road Story:

“I always loved working with Randy. He was so intense. In public, he spoke like he did in his promos. I remember one time, he came out to stay with me in Arizona. And he was there for a couple days. We went out to eat one night.”

“I said, “Randy, just do me a favor, don’t say anything. Just enjoy the food and we’ll go.” Because we were going to go to the gym after.”

“About a half-hour of being there, he said something about the food being good. It was all kinds of chatter going on, people talking. As soon as he said that to me, the whole place went absolutely totally dead silent. Everybody was leaning in their ear, trying to figure out where that voice came from. Then that was it, we were there signing autographs for the next two hours.”

The following is a new message written by The Ultimate Warrior in response to Vince McMahon welcoming him back to WWE recently. Warrior wrote:

“@VinceMcMahon Vince, thank you for your personal welcome back to the WWE Universe. It is noted and appreciated. All the Warriors of Parts Unknown take pride in being one of the original galaxies of the Universe you created. Not one of my days has passed without a flashback to my time in the business and my relationship with you. After 17 years of battling one another, perhaps the stars have finally aligned and Destiny is prepared to tell one of Sports Entertainment’s greatest stories: how two of the industry’s most determined, colorful, intense and explosive personalities brought to life a persona that made such an inspiring impression that it still captures the hearts and minds of fans all over the world, even all these years later. I am proud Ultimate Warrior is an iconic, immortal spirit in the Universe you created. I know, Vince McMahon, you are proud, too. The inhabitants of your WWE Universe believe your personal welcome is an invitation of sorts. If so, consider this my RSVP with one condition. Wisdom takes a seat at the table with us when we meet, but we each also leave unburied a slight edge of the hatchet we’ve carried over the years. that other gutless and heartless God-fearing men urge us to lay to rest forever. Face it, neither one of us were ever any good at being bored or boring others. So coming prepared to kill one another makes for a interesting backup plan. Always Believe, Warrior “

Ultimate Warrior Talks About His Admiration For Vince McMahon

WWE.com has published Part 1 of their exclusive interview with the Ultimate Warrior. Here are some highlights of what Warrior said about:

Getting his start with WWE: “I was in WCCW in Texas and the first time I worked for them, this is a story that you don’t even hear no more, while I was working down there Vince had done his first Wrestlemania. He had a guy working for him at the time named George Scott and he was on his way to Florida. He was a friend of Fritz Von Erich, who owned the promotion WCCW and Fritz asked him to come down and take over the book for a while. He came in and started doing that and then an old time wrestler, Bronko Lubich, pulled me aside and said I heard George got on the phone today and he was talking to somebody from New York and he was talking about somebody down here that’s got this talent. It’s raw, but you know. He said don’t you tell anybody cause I’ll deny it.

“The next thing I know I got a call from Vince and Pat Patterson asking me what the Dingo Warrior was. And then they were doing a show in Tyler, Texas and they had Koko B. Ware and Randy [Savage] and Junkyard Dog. So I go down there and they say you want to come down and perform? So I go down there and people went crazy. They asked me if I wanted to go on the road for a while. I packed my bag and went on the road for like 46 days and didn’t go home. I knew what they were doing; they were trying to burn me out. And I just hung in there, kept my nose clean and stuff. They kept me off Television, I did the Dingo Warrior thing. Eight or nine months later they put my on TV for the first time and it just took off from there.”

His admiration for Vince McMahon: “Vince is intense, man. He goes around the clock and I was the same way. Some of the people that knew both of us said that the problem was they were too much like each other. That’s why WWE has succeeded, because Vince shows up and he works everyday. Most people don’t get that, that’s the secret to being successful like that. And he does and I admired that. I still do, even after all the years of fighting with him. I respect him more than anybody else.”

Vince McMahon Personally Welcomes Ultimate Warrior Back To WWE

Vince McMahon himself took to Twitter to personally welcome, of all people, The Ultimate Warrior “back to WWE.”

McMahon then linked an article on the official company website which promoted Warrior’s return in the new WWE 2K14 video game.

Vince McMahon’s tweet read as follows:

Latest Update On Ultimate Warrior In WWE Hall Of Fame

Jim Ross On Vince’s Opinion Of Daniel Bryan, RAW Social Media Score

– Earlier today, Jim Ross commented on rumors that Vince McMahon does not see Daniel Bryan as a main eventer. Via the Q&A section of JRsBarBQ.com:
