I couldn’t have done it without you.’ That’s more gratifying than anything I’ve done as a wrestler. I couldn’t ask for a better job.”

Daniel Bryan On Who He’d Like To Induct Him Into WWE Hall Of Fame, His New Book & More

Daniel Bryan recently spoke with Miami Herald’s Scott Fishman to promote tonight’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Below are highlights from the interview.

On possibly wrestling Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31: “Facing Brock Lesnar is my ultimate dream match for WrestleMania 31. If you asked me right now what would be your ideal situation for WrestleMania 31, it would be wrestling Brock Lesnar for the WWE world heavyweight championship in the main event. I think Brock Lesnar is the ultimate monster. He is the beast, but I also think I’m the ultimate underdog. I think it’s something the fans want to see. I definitely want to see it. So that’s what I’m hoping for.”

On his upcoming autobiography: “At first I was going to write it myself. Then I was doing so much physical therapy and all that stuff, I didn’t think I was able to do it. We had somebody that helped me write it. Then we got the first draft, and he did a really good job, but it wasn’t my voice. My career has been very different with different stories and experiences. It’s hard for anybody else to express that. Then all of a sudden you have this first draft of the first attempt on the book, and I didn’t think it was working. So since November, I went back to writing it myself again. Then because the first draft was due actually on Thursday when SmackDown moved to Thursday nights, I’ve been writing like 2,000 words a day. So when everyone is off talking and getting ready for SmackDown, I’m working to get the first draft done.”

On who he would want to induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame: “I actually haven’t really thought about it, but if I were to be, I would want William Regal to do the honors. He has been the influential person in my career by far. So I would want him. Plus he is a great speaker. I think he would be great.”

  • WWE NXT Report Card (12/18)

The future of the WWE went to school last night, and I’m here to grade their performance. Matches will be graded based on usual factors such as workrate, in-ring psychology, crowd involvement, and overall impact on the storyline. Important promos will also be graded based on entertainment value, believability, and originality.

While this is supposed to act as a weekly report and recap for NXT, more importantly, it’s a place for you, the SEScoops readers, to discuss this week’s episode, dole out your own grades, and discuss the future of the product. Without further ado, here is this week’s NXT Report Card.

    Adrian Neville/Kevin Owens Opening Promo

    kevin-owens-steen-hype-video-ses-1

This was a pretty good way to start the show and the crowd really seemed to be into it. Neville did his best to make amends with the fans and put over Sami Zayn, saying things like, “We went to war” and “The better man won.”

Neville isn’t the strongest promo man in the game, but he did his best, even if he can be a bit redundant at times. Owens, on the other hand, cut an intense and articulate promo that seemed to have the crowd on the edge of their seats. Overall, it was a good way to start the show and set up the main event between Neville and Owens.

    Grade: B+

    Bayley vs. Becky Lynch

This one started off a bit sluggish, with most of the early action consisting of Bayley throwing punches and not utilizing many wrestling moves. The action picked up toward the end, however, with the ending sequence being particularly impressive. The counter into Lynch’s finisher was fresh and it worked well with the in-ring psychology due to Bayley’s injured knee.

    Grade: B-

  • Ezekiel Jackson Talks Working For Lucha Underground, Brian Kendrick, William Regal

The following are highlights of a new interview with Big Ryck, aka Ezekiel Jackson:

On growing up a Wrestling fan: “The long version of the story is, at eight years old I saw wrestling for the first time and a neighbor of ours used to allow us to watch television through their windows and one day, I saw wrestling for the first time. It was 1986 or 1987 and I was eight years old. It was “Iceman” King Parsons and I was smitten, so I’ve been a fan of wrestling forever.”

On his debut and working with Brian Kendrick: “The thing about Brian Kendrick is that he’s not going to try to hold his tongue, he’s not going to baby you, he’s not going to try to please you just to please you. If it is wrong, he will tell you it is wrong, but it if it is right, he will tell you it is right. He’s not going to walk on eggshells around anybody, he’s a straight shooter, he lets you know straight up if he doesn’t like you, he doesn’t like you. Kendrick chose me for that role, he came, sat, met up with me when I was in Florida Championship Wrestling, told me his plans and asked if I was interested. The dude came to Florida and asked if I was willing to come into that role, that earned my respect on a whole new level for him. I think we had for whatever reason, we didn’t hit it the way I thought we could have, whether it be writing, creative, myself, himself, I don’t know.”

On his time working with William Regal and Vladimir Kozlov as The Ruthless Roundtable: “With Regal combined, the three of us, I felt it was, we did the whole he won one, one-upsmanship. He would hit me with his finisher, then we did the thing at SummerSlam, myself and Christian, where I turned on Christian. You had Christian as Champion, you had Dreamer, you had Goldust, you had, you know Regal working with us, Hurricane, I thought, let’s see what happens again, put two big guys together and we worked well. I had a chance to learn more in the wrestling aspect of it, it was fun for while it lasted. I thought again that The Ruthless Roundtable thing, I thought it could’ve been phenomenal had it gotten a chance on Raw or SmackDown.”

  • Sheamus Talks About Working With Regal, WWE’s Future, Cesaro, U.S. Title & More

The following are highlights of a new This Is Infamous interview with Sheamus:

Billy Donnelly: And you’re no slouch yourself [compared to Cesaro], when it comes to being physical. How quickly did you guys realize that you had this very solid chemistry in the ring, that your styles seemed to just match in order to turn out good matches time and time again?

Sheamus: So, one of the people that’s closest to me is William Regal, and he’s been a mentor to me since I first came on the road in ‘09. He basically offered to go on the drives with me and he gave me advice and watched my matches and he’s also still one of my best friends. He’s got a great eye for talent, and he’s a big fan of Bryan and Cesaro. I knew who Cesaro was because I had fought him on the independent scene. He’s a beast of a guy and he’s just a tremendous athlete. I was excited for him to come to WWE, because that European style he has fits mine, and he’s just a hugely motivated, and very, very physical. So the first time we get into the ring together is actually at an NXT dark match, when NXT just started doing the TV tapings in Orlando. Man, like we came back and people were on their feet about it. We got stuck in. It was great. It was like we got two bulls in the ring and knocking humps out of each other. And then we wrestled a couple of times on TV, and we never had a bad outing. It was cool, we just had that… We may not like each other too much, but we definitely have so much respect for each other. We get in there, it really is a competition to outdo the other guy, or to hit the other guy harder, which, at the end of the day, is really what the fans want to see, and what the fans will enjoy seeing. Last night was no different. When we went out there we didn’t really have the biggest build up for the pay-per-view, but we went out there knowing in our heads that we were going to steal the show. That we were gonna set the bar, and let’s see if everybody else can follow. As I said, right now he’s my favorite performer. My two favorites have been for a while definitely Bryan and Cesaro. We definitely have the best chemistry, and we’re definitely hoping that Bryan will be back soon, but Cesaro right now is definitely one of my favorite guys to work with. He’s a tremendous athlete, doesn’t mean I like him any better, but it’s okay because we’ll still hit each other as hard as we can.

Billy Donnelly: You’re in the midst now of your second U.S. title reign, and for one reason or another the title has seemed to feel like an afterthought at times. There have been bouts where it hasn’t been defended and what not, but there’s obviously a long legacy that goes along with that belt. How do you go about trying to return the prestige of that title and make it feel meaningful once again?

Sheamus: Well I mean, obviously I don’t decide when I’m defending it. When I go out there, the title is around my waist, so I’m representing the title. Whether I’m defending it or not, I gotta go out there and give the best performance I can and leave everything in the ring because I’m representing the United States title. And the U.S. title is very very special to me. The first one I had didn’t last very long, but it kinda kickstarted me back again when I fell off the chart a bit after John Morrison. I felt I was kinda spinning my wheels. This country, the United States has given me a huge opportunity. I’m Irish, born in Ireland, and I’ll never forget that, and I love going home, but here’s the thing… This country has allowed me to fulfill my dream, become a WWE Superstar, travel all over the world, and perform in front of millions of people. That United States Championship is a huge part of the country where I live. I’m Irish, but I’m proud to say that I live here. I’m proud to live in America, and I’m very proud to be the United States champion.

Billy Donnelly: Let me ask you about the end of the brand extension, and RAW and Smackdown no longer being treated as separate entities. It seemed that during a long period of time, Smackdown looked to serve as the proving ground for guys to kinda show that they’re ready to take it to the next level, that they’re ready to be considered top level talent. Do you think that the number of opportunities have lessened for superstars to move up the ladder and put themselves as main eventers without Smackdown being treated separately? Or is it just a reshuffling of the structure and these opportunities do still exist?

Sheamus: So I really liked the brand split in the beginning, when it was two different brands. I don’t think I’d be where I am if the brand split wasn’t there because when I left RAW and went to Smackdown, me and Bryan got huge opportunities, both of us, to push ourselves and our stories. Now that the brand stuff is not there anymore, yeah… It all depends, really. We’ve got Main Event, Smackdown, RAW… There’s a lot of shows there. Sometimes people wrestle on Main Event and Smackdown, which is taped on a Tuesday. I dunno. Everyone creates opportunities. Obviously Roman [Reigns] is out now for a little bit, and some new guy could come in and try to prove himself in that time. So that creates opportunities. When someone leaves, opportunities arise. When Bryan got hurt, Roman kinda stepped in. So it’s all relative. I think the WWE gives people opportunities, it’s just the timing of them, and how you use those opportunities… But I think, looking at this talent coming through… We’ve got some tremendous talent. And in NXT as well, they’ve got some amazing guys. They just signed Fergal Devitt who is a friend of mine, and he’s gonna tear the place up as well. They’ve got Sami Zayn down there, they’ve got Adrian Neville… The future is brightening.

WWE has signed a five year television deal with Ten Sports out of India, one that includes a live WWE tour at some point in 2015.

What’s notable about the tour is that the company hasn’t toured India in a long time and the last time they did, things went so badly that multiple talents noted that they would rather quit before going on another tour there. That was before the payoffs, by the way, which were said to be minuscule, adding insult to injury.

It’s also worth noting that several of the guys, most notably William Regal, got very ill during the tour of India.

  • NXT Takeover: Fatal 4-Way Results – September 11, 2014

The following are results of the NXT Takeover 2 special, which aired on the WWE Network on Thursday, September 11, 2014.

    – The Lucha Dragons (Sin Cara & Kalisto) def. The Ascension to become the new NXT Tag-Team Champions in the opening match of the show. The finish came when Kalisto pinned Viktor.

    – Baron Corbin def. C.J. Parker in a quick squash match that lasted all of 29 seconds.

    – Enzo Amore def. Sylvester Lefort with a rolling reverse cradle, holding his trunks during the pin. Lefort tried to run away after the match, but Big Cass clotheslined him. Louis attacked Cass and Lefort ran off, leaving Louis alone. Cass hit a big kick on Louis. Cass said to Amore, “Enzo, get the bucket!” in Dudley Boyz fashion. He poured the bucket on Louis and Louis ran off.

    – KENTA came out to the ring after being introduced by William Regal. KENTA announced that his new name is Hideo Itami. The Acension came out and threw him out of the ring and demanded a tag-title rematch. He came back in and cleaned house of both guys.

    – Bull Dempsey def. Mojo Rawley in about a minute with a diving head-butt. After the match, he gave Rowley another diving head-butt for good measure.

    – Backstage, Enzo Amore and Big Cass wanted to see somebody bald. They found Louis and Lefort ran away, leaving him alone yet again. Cass attacked him and carried him to the ring. Cass hit him with a reverse atomic drop and Amore took the towel off that was covering his head, revealing that he only had a little bit of hair left and no eyebrows.

    – Charlotte def. Bayley to retain the NXT Women’s Championship. The finish saw Charlotte hit a moonsault, followed by a neck-snapper for the pin. After the match, Sasha Banks came out and taunted Bayley and then attacked her. Charlotte ended up making the save.

    – It was announced that Hideo Itami (formerly known as KENTA) will be making his in-ring debut on NXT TV next week, which is actually being taped on Saturday night, September 12th.

    – Adrian Neville def. Tyler Breeze, Sami Zayn & Tyson Kidd to retain the NXT Championship. The finish saw Neville hit his spectacular Red Arrow on Kidd for the pin after Zayn had hit the running kick into the corner and had the match won, but Neville pulled the referee out of the ring so he couldn’t make the three count. This was definitely a “match of the year” candidate.
