The Young Bucks Set Sights On IWGP Tag Titles For Wrestle Dynasty

The Young Bucks have set their sights on capturing the IWGP Tag Team Championships at the first-ever Wrestle Dynasty pay-per-view in January. In a video segment from their home, the brothers opened things up by telling someone on the phone to “cry me a river,” a nod to Jack Perry’s infamous line from All In: London aimed at CM Punk.

After hanging up the phone, the Bucks shared that they’re tired of working from home and plan to return to the ring at the January 5, show. The pair described regaining the IWGP Tag Titles as an accolade they need to reach before they retire and warned Toyko that their “rich God-fearing uncles” are coming back.

The Bucks won the titles at Dominion 6.9 in June 2018, and would hold the gold for 113 days. Their time with the gold ended at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in September at the hands of the Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa.)

The titles are currently held by the United Empire (Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb). The duo won the gold from TMDK at Power Struggle earlier this month.

Kenny Omega Vs. Gabe Kidd: After close to 400 days, Kenny Omega will finally be in action when he takes on the man who assaulted him at NJPW Power Struggle: Gabe Kidd

Shota Umino Vs. Claudio Castagnoli: A match that’ll be as physical as it gets, will the Death Riders’ Swiss powerhouse overcome the New Japan’s resident Roughneck?

International Women’s Cup Four Way: A representative from AEW, CMLL, ROH, and STARDOM will compete in this four-way, with the winner earning a title match from the participating promotion of their choosing.

The Young Bucks in Action: The Young Bucks have confirmed their role at Wrestle Dynasty, though time will tell who steps up to face the AEW EVPs.

With these matches announced, and Mercedes Mone teasing a role at Wrestle Dynasty, the January 5, show will be a huge event. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Wrestle Dynasty including breaking news and live results.

Mercedes Moné Praises AEW’s Women, Confirms Wrestle Dynasty Role

Mercedes Moné had the toughest match of her AEW career at Full Gear, where she retained the AEW TBS Championship against Kris Statlander. Speaking on the post-show media scrum, the CEO praised Statlander and Willow Nightingale as two names in AEW to watch.

“Everytime I wrestle these women in AEW, they’re legit the best. For me, Willow is up there, but Kris, she has given me my hardest match that I’ve ever had here in AEW.”

Mone and Nightingale locked horns at AEW Double or Nothing 2024, which marked the CEO’s first match for AEW. On that night, Mone won the TBS title from Nightingale and has held onto the gold ever since.

Mercedes Mone on Wrestle Dynasty

With Full Gear in the rear-view mirror, Moné is looking ahead to Wrestle Dynasty, which will see representation from AEW. Responding to a question from Fightful, Moné addressed her potential involvement with the show.

“If I am the TBS Champion and New Japan Strong Women’s Champion, you can expect me at Wrestle Dynasty in Japan at the Tokyo Dome. I’m going to talk to my CEO [points at Tony Khan]. We’ll have to plan that out.”

Wrestle Dynasty will take place on January 5, from the legendary Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan, one day after NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19. The show will see involvement from AEW, New Japan, Ring of Honor, CMLL, and STARDOM. Kenny Omega Vs. Gabe Kidd Official For Inaugural Wrestle Dynasty PPV

Kenny Omega’s return to action will come on January 5, at Wrestle Dynasty against Gabe Kidd, it has been confirmed. In a statement from New Japan Pro Wrestling, it was confirmed that the match has been made official:

“Kenny Omega will step into a pro-wrestling ring in anger for the first time in 396 days, and in an NJPW ring for the first time in two years exactly. Will he prevail against the violent mad man in the Tokyo Dome?”

Omega and Kidd have been at odds since NJPW Power Struggle where the AEW EVP teased wrestling at Wrestle Dynasty. After speaking of wanting to face one of New Japan’s young talent, Omega had an altercation with Gabe Kidd backstage.

Omega has been out of action since December of 2023 due to a battle with diverticulitis. The former AEW World Champion’s last match came against Ethan Page at the December 12, 2023 episode of Collision and he underwent surgery earlier this year. Now, Omega is poised for his long-awaited return, in what should be a must-see match at the first-ever Wrestle Dynasty pay-per-view.
