Xavier Woods Talks “Greatest Moment In Wrestling” With Kofi Kingston

WWE Superstar and host of UpUpDownDown Xavier Woods recently appeared on the Gorilla Position podcast.

During the interview with James Delow, Xavier Woods would discuss a number of topics during his time with WWE. These included his New Day run, the creation of UpUpDownDown and his eventual return from injury.

One of the points raised during the interview was Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship win at WrestleMania 35. Woods would discuss how emotional the moment was for him, Big E and Kingston when Kofi beat Daniel Bryan to win the Championship.

A Lot of Emotions

“It’s a lot of emotions and I…it always comes up when we’re talking about this, that picture of Big E and me holding Kofi and I’m bawling uncontrollably” Woods would begin. “Because it’s super meaningful for a lot of reasons.”

Xavier Woods would then talk about the importance of Kofi becoming the first ever African-born WWE Champion. Woods would also discuss representation in pro wrestling, saying how previously he felt there wasn’t someone who represented him as a young black man watching the product. “As a kid growing up? There wasn’t always someone in the limelight that represented me and the way that I look.”

Xavier Woods on the Angle

Woods elaborated further, saying “to be able to be a part of this angle? Of the story? Where I am able to help prop up the person who is able to be that for this next generation of kids? I have not done anything in my career that has meant more than that. And I will most likely not do anything in my career that will mean more than that moment.”

The creator of UpUpDownDown would then describe the moment with Kofi as “perfect.” Using the analogy of blackjack and saying that they hit 21 with the angle. “There’s not many moments in wrestling that I would say are perfect. That was perfect. When I tell people that wrestling is incredible? Like, that’s what I’m trying to say like, no, you’re not always gonna land on 21 when you’re playing blackjack. But, you know, as long as you can stay around like 17/19? You’re okay. But that was 21, that was the best that could possibly have been done.”

Woods would finish by saying how to him it’s the greatest moment in pro wrestling. “And so that’s the greatest moment in wrestling, to me, just for the personal reasons. But then, also being able to be in in wrestling in that time where so many things had to come together for that most perfect moment.”

It’s importance of Kofi’s win at WrestleMania 35 is undeniable. Even with the way in which Brock Lesnar would defeat Kingston to take the title? There’s no doubt that the moment will live on in history and the match itself between Bryan and Kofi was fantastic to boot.

Daniel Bryan May Have Suffered Injury At WrestleMania

It looks like WWE could have another high-profile injury on their hands after WrestleMania. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Daniel Bryan might be dealing with an injury. Bryan dropped the WWE Championship to Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35 from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday.

Meltzer notes that Bryan was waiting to be examined this week, however, the word going around is that the now-former champ is dealing with an injury. As a result, Bryan was sent home early this week and was not backstage for Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

There are currently no specifics on the type of injury Bryan is dealing with, or when it may have happened. We’ll keep you updated as more becomes available.

Injury History

Obviously, any injury concern surrounding Bryan makes fans hold their breath. The 37-year-old’s in-ring career was nearly ended several years ago due to concussion-like symptoms. Thankfully, after a few years sidelined due to medical suspension, Bryan was able to get cleared to make his return to the ring.

Hopefully, Bryan’s injury concerns from WrestleMania are not related to his past neurological issues, and we see him back in the ring again soon.

New Jersey Transit Blames WWE For WM35 Transit Woes, WWE Responds

Many WWE fans were left without a way back to their homes or hotels after WrestleMania 35 last night. Thousands of fans experienced long wait times for trains in the rain following the event, a fact New Jersey transit officials are blaming WWE for.

New Jersey Transit released a statement this morning concerning the situation:

“The primary factor contributing to the post-event delays was the WWE’s decision to extend the event to 12:30 a.m., which had significant operational impacts on the evening. NJ Transit was not informed of this decision until late last night,” said transit spokesman Jim Smith. “The decision to extend this event resulted in our inability to operate some of those trains due to federal requirements limiting train crew hours.”

“NJ Transit’s top priority is always the safety of our customers and employees. We regret the extended exiting time some customers experienced,” the statement continued

WrestleMania 35 Fans Stranded After Event

WWE issued a statement in response, noting that they do not advertise the end-times of their events.

“Just like other sports and entertainment events, we do not advertise an end time,” WWE’s statement reads.

Governor Phil Murphy also commented on the long delays and stranded WWE fans.

“It’s completely and utterly ‘dog-ate-my-homework’ unacceptable,” Murphy said. “We’re fixing it. We’re gonna learn from this.”

Batista ‘Officially Retired’ Following WrestleMania 35

Former WWE champion Dave Bautista has wrestled his last match after a ‘no holds barred’ showdown against Triple H at WrestleMania 35.

The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ star made a return to the ring on Sunday night after building up a match against his former teammate in ‘Evolution’.

The back and forth battle ended after Ric Flair interfered to help Triple H secure the victory as he planted Bautista with a Pedigree before earning the three-count.

While the match was billed around Triple H potentially wrestling for the last time ever if he was defeated, Bautista was ultimately the one who called it a career following WrestleMania.

“Thank you for letting me entertain you,” Bautista wrote on Twitter. “I love this business and whether you cheered me or jeered me, I’m grateful for being a small part of your life.

“I am officially retired from sports entertainment and I am grateful for every second of my amazing journey.”

https://twitter.com/DaveBautista/status/1115144897357602816

Ever since he stopped working a full time schedule several years ago, Bautista has made a new career for himself in Hollywood where he’s landed several marquee roles including his iconic turn as Drax the Destroyer in two ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies as well as last year’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

This year, Bautista will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ due out on April 26 and then he’ll take a comedic turn in the buddy comedy ‘Stuber’ where he stars alongside ‘Silicon Valley’ actor Kumail Nanjiani.

Bautista also has a featured role in the highly anticipated new adaptation of ‘Dune’ from director Denis Villenueve.

It’s safe to say Bautista will be plenty busy in his acting career now that he has closed the door on the WWE following one final match on Sunday night.

WrestleMania Set To Break Record

WrestleMania 35 is the biggest event of the year for WWE and with the show getting closer, it appears that it will make history.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the show could be the first live event in WWE history to top $20 million in revenue as it has increased ticket prices.

Wrestlemania 35 is expected to easily surpass Wrestlemania 29’s 68,900 paid fans with $12.3 million in revenue. Wrestlemania 29 had 80,676 as the announced attendance figure in the same stadium.

Post-WrestleMania Plans For Women’s Title Picture In The Works

WrestleMania 35 is less than a week away, but that hasn’t stopped WWE officials from planning for the future. WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch vs. WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair will headline the show.

Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that plans for the title picture post-WrestleMania are starting to take shape.

This was when the longtime reporter started to speculate about how after this match there is the belief that Lynch will walk out of the biggest event of the year for the company as a double champion – RAW and SmackDown.

WWE would shift their focus on the star who lost their title without actually being beat whether that’s pinfall or submission. Thus, if Rousey lost her title, then Lynch vs. Flair would be the direction that WWE books Lynch going forward and if Flair takes the fall then it would be Rousey vs. Lynch.

Meltzer would add that whoever takes the loss, Lynch is expected to walk out as champion. The call on who will be actually beaten in the match will depend on the status of Rousey with the company as there have been reports that Rousey is going to be taking a break from WWE after WrestleMania.

Thus, it will be interesting to see who takes the pinfall/submission loss. Rousey would put Becky over if she were to leave. However, if she’s sticking around, then Charlotte would be the one to take the loss.

WWE WrestleMania 35 Main Event Will Be Winner Take All

A new stipulation has been added to the triple threat match at WrestleMania 35 between WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch, and SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.

During Monday’s episode of RAW, Stephanie McMahon announced that this match will feature a “Winner Takes All” stipulation. The RAW and SmackDown Women’s championships will be on the line, who whoever wins is walking out with both belts.

It remains to be seen if WWE will unify the Women’s championships after WrestleMania.

Ronda Rousey Believes She Is Why Triple Threat Will Main Event WrestleMania

Ronda Rousey has become known for frequently bending, if not flat out breaking, the fourth wall on her personal YouTube show, Ronda On The Road.

This weeks episode of the show follows her journey to this week’s Monday Night RAW in Boston, Massachusetts. During the video, Ronda would speak candidly on her match at WrestleMania. She would admit she thinks Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair wouldn’t be enough to main event the show. She went on toe say they “need” her in the match to elevate their feud. Their triple threat will see womenclosing the show for the first time in WWE history.

“It’s really cool to see people so p****d off, that thought I would fail miserably,” Rousey said. “And see that within one year, I’m in the main event of WrestleMania. And, you know what? I could promise you that Charlotte vs. Becky 9000 would not have made the main event of WrestleMania. They need me and I made it happen.”

Under Pressure

The pressure of main eventing WrestleMania on April 7th isn’t lost on the champion. She shares that “Going into this WrestleMania, I think it’s just… we just need to make sure the event is a huge success.”

She continues, “It needs to do extremely well views, I mean, it needs to do extremely well on pay-per-view buys. I want it to be the best ever because we need the women headlining WrestleMania to not be an isolated event. We need it to be, like, proof that this works and if we don’t do that, everything that we’ve done is for nothing, and we’re going to take so many years and steps back. So, there’s just so much depending on the success of this event. It really reminds me of me and [Liz] Carmouche for UFC. Everything depended on that event [UFC 157] being a success. The whole future of women in that sport, and I think the future of the women in this industry depends on the success of WrestleMania 35.”

Ronda Rousey defends her RAW Women’s Championship against SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair, and “The Man” Becky Lynch in a triple-threat at WrestleMania 35. The history-making matchup goes down on April 7th from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

News Regarding The Undertaker and John Cena At WrestleMania

With WrestleMania 35 around the corner, two of WWE’s biggest Superstars are still not officially announced to be a part of the event.

It had been rumored previously that John Cena may have been revealed to be Kurt Angle’s final opponent. This would have been for Angle’s retirement match at WrestleMania. That honor instead went to Baron Corbin—a fact that didn’t impress Cena.

Brad Shepard and Jon Fisher from the ‘Oh, You Didn’t Know’ Podcast discussed the chances the WWE Universe has in seeing either Superstar at WrestleMania.

“WWE is now operating as if The Undertaker will not be at WrestleMania, which is a big surprise to people internally. They did expect he would probably at least appear, they would work it out. But it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen now. At least as of right now, they’re operating as if he won’t be there.”

In regards to John Cena turning up, the two shared we may still see him. But don’t expect it to be in a matchup:

“WWE are considering having John Cena interrupt Elias’ performance at WrestleMania.”

Although not a wrestling or competitive role, if true, Cena may end up dusting off his rap skills in confronting Elias. But is this the best way to utilize a talent of John Cena’s stature?

Reason Behind Charlotte Flair’s Championship Win On SmackDown

The WWE Universe is still reeling at the surprise title change that went down this past Tuesday on SmackDown Live. For those that missed it, Charlotte Flair would challenge and defeat Asuka for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.

This decision saw a previously slated Fatal 4 Way between Mandy Rose, Naomi, Carmella, and Sonya Deville cancelled. The winner of that match would have gone on to face Asuka at WrestleMania 35. Unsurprisingly, Flair stepping in to claim the championship wasn’t well received by the women who lost their opportunity for it.

Since all of this went down, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com has discussed WWE’s reasoning behind the decision. He said that the “decision was made at the last minute.”

Meltzer has now discussed why WWE decided to pull the trigger on this decision. He claims that the promotion intends to close WrestleMania with the Four Horsewomen all holding gold.

“This is not about Asuka, it’s about Charlotte. The Women’s Champion could have been Asuka, it could have been Naomi, it could have been Carmella—it doesn’t matter who the SmackDown Champion would have been. They want the Horsewomen closing out the show as champions at WrestleMania, so whoever was the SmackDown champion was losing that title to Charlotte.”

If this does occur, and a WWE Four Horsewomen reunion is on the horizon, could this potentially lead into the long-awaited feud between them and Ronda Rousey’s MMA Four Horsewomen faction?

WWE Already Advertising Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston For WrestleMania 35

One of the most highly-anticipated matches at WrestleMania next month has yet to be made official. It’s expected that WWE Champion Daniel Bryan will defend his title against Kofi Kingston at “The Show Of Shows.” However, Kingston has been screwed out of every opportunity to punch his ticket to WrestleMania by Vince McMahon.

Although it’s still expected that the match will happen, with just two weeks to go until WrestleMania, the bout is not yet confirmed on TV. However, WWE seems to already be advertising Bryan vs. Kingston for the WWE Title at MetLife Stadium. One fan shared on Twitter an advertisement from WWE that shows a graphic for Bryan vs. Kingston for the WWE Title:

Also, WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle shared a WrestleMania poster that shows Kingston and Bryan opposite one another:

//www.instagram.com/embed.js

Perhaps tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live will finally clear things up. There’s a chance Kingston is able to punch his ticket to New Jersey and get past Vince McMahon’s roadblocks once and for all. Or WWE could decide to hold off on making the match official until the go-home episode of SmackDown Live before WrestleMania.

Earlier today (Tues. March 26, 2019) UFC star Conor McGregor shook up the sports community. “The Notorious” has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. He posted the following on Twitter early this morning:

This isn’t the first time McGregor has retired via social media. McGregor did the same back in 2016 when he was struggling to negotiate his next fight at the time. Of course, McGregor eventually returned to fight several more times, including a mega-money boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now, however, it looks like the Irish star is teasing retirement yet again.

With McGregor now focused on ventures outside of the Octagon, it did not take long for his fellow countryman Finn Balor to take notice. Balor responded to McGregor’s Tweet by saying, “See you at Mania brother.”

McGregor has certainly been linked to rumors of working with WWE before. He bad-mouthed several WWE stars prior to his UFC 205 fight back in 2016, and has been chummy with Becky Lynch on social media since her rise to fame. Perhaps McGregor will show up at “The Show Of Shows” in New Jersey next month to show support for Lynch and Balor, his two fellow Irishmen on the card.

Our partner site MMANews.com has much more on McGregor’s retirement from MMA, including UFC President Dana White’s reaction.

Becky Lynch Reportedly Offered New WWE Deal

It looks like WWE wants to keep “The Man” around for a long time. Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that the company has offered Lynch a new multi-year contract that includes a pay raise. Lynch is expected to sign the new deal fairly soon.

This comes after it was announced earlier today (Mon. March 25, 2019) that Lynch will be part of a historic WrestleMania main event. Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey will all be part of the first-ever women’s match to main event a WrestleMania pay-per-view (PPV). The highly-anticipated bout takes place at WrestleMania 35 next month.

Becky Lynch has been part of WWE since 2013, when she joined the company’s NXT developmental brand. She made here main roster debut in July 2015.

Lynch has become, arguably, WWE’s biggest star over the past year. She really got over with fans when she attacked Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam. Lynch followed-up with a SmackDown Live Women’s Title win at Hell In A Cell. Also, Lynch won January’s Women’s Royal Rumble match to punch her ticket to WrestleMania.

Now, she hopes to win the first-ever women’s match to main event a WrestleMania show by toppling both Flair and Rousey. WrestleMania 35 goes down from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, April 7, 2019.

Kurt Angle on His Retirement: ‘I Had a Great Career…Now It’s Time for Me to Settle Down’

Kurt Angle has seen everything and probably done even more during his professional wrestling career but he is finally ready to call it a career.

At WrestleMania 35, Angle will compete in his retirement match against Baron Corbin following an athletic career that stretches back more than 40 years.

“We’re heading to WrestleMania next month and I will have my retirement match. 50 years old, I’m ready to hang it up and I’m going to have my last match at WrestleMania,” Angle said when making an appearance at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in his native Pittsburgh this weekend.

Angle has been involved in professional wrestling in one form or fashion since first making his debut back in 1998.

Just after winning the Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling in 1996, Angle was immediately pursued by WWE to join the promotion but he scoffed at the idea of transitioning to professional wrestling.

It took a couple of years of convincing but Angle eventually came around, tried out for the WWE and eventually became one of the company’s biggest superstars.

In recent years, Angle has gotten back into the ring despite lingering injuries that put him on the sidelines while once again working with WWE as the ‘general manager’ of Monday Night Raw.

While he’s been more active in recent months, Angle finally decided that it was time to retire from active competition with one last match at WrestleMania in April.

“I had a great career. 20 years, I enjoyed every minute of it, I also enjoyed [wrestling] so I’ve been very blessed,” Angle said. “Win 13 world titles in professional wrestling and obviously I’ve won six National Titles and an Olympic gold medal and a World Championship in amateur wrestling. So I’ve been very blessed.

“I’ve had a great career. Now it’s time for me to settle down and take care of my kids.”

Becky Lynch Taunts Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey

2019 WWE Women’s Royal Rumble winner Becky Lynch continues to taunt Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey ahead of WrestleMania. Lynch and Flair take on Rousey for the RAW Women’s Championship in what’s believed to be the main event of WrestleMania 35.

Recently, Flair posted a photo of herself on Twitter. Lynch responded by taking a shot at “The Queen”:

Rousey also addressed her situation on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW. She and her husband, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, took on several of WWE’s security team members. Rousey said she doesn’t care how much she’s fined by the company for her actions.

Lynch responded by offering to pay Rousey’s fine with her new “shampoo money”:

Speaking of Lynch, her new Funko Pop figure is the number one selling item on Amazon’s Toys and Games section. Check it out here:

Backstage News Regarding Kurt Angle vs Baron Corbin At WrestleMania 35

Kurt Angle’s announcement on Monday Night RAW is still being met with negative backlash. He announced that his retirement match this April 7th at WrestleMania 35 would be against Baron Corbin.

At the time of writing, WWE’s YouTube clip of the reveal is sitting at 14k dislikes and 5.7k likes.

It’s safe to say that the WWE Universe is decidedly underwhelmed by this revelation, especially given Angle’s calibre, status, and history.

PWInsider.com has reported that Angle’s opponent reveal isn’t “a swerve to lead to something else.” They added that the plan backstage prior to RAW was committed to “100% Angle vs. Corbin at WrestleMania.”

Whether this changes due to their fanbases’ negative reaction is yet to be seen. The power of the WWE Universe has helped affect change in the past, such as Daniel Bryan’s journey to WrestleMania 30 and the current Kofi-Mania we are experiencing in the run-up to WrestleMania 35.

“I Realize It’s Not The Most Popular Decision”

Angle actually took his Instagram account to address the reaction to Monday’s announcement.

“My farewell match will be against Baron Corbin at Wrestlemania. I realize it’s not the most popular decision from a fan’s perspective… BUT I will make Corbin tap out on the biggest stage of them all…. and I Hope you can share this moment/accomplishment with me on April 7th. Baron is a legit tough guy. It won’t be easy but it never is. #itstrue #wrestlemania35 #wwe #wrestling”

With so many potential opponents available to him, and speculation circulating that he may have faced off against John Cena in what would have been a beautiful piece of narrative closure, it’s hard to debate the fan reaction. Given this is Angle’s retirement match, it becomes all the more understandable.

WrestleMania 35 will take place on April 7th from the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It is speculated to become the longest event in WrestleMania history.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match Set For WrestleMania 35

The card for WrestleMania 35 continues to grow with each passing week. With rumors rife that this year’s extravaganza event may be the longest in WrestleMania history, matches are still being added.

Last night saw the promotion set the Cruiserweight championship match for April 7th.

Tony Nese was successful in his matchup against Cedric Alexander, defeating him and earning the right to wrestle Buddy Murphy on “The Grandest Stage Of Them All.”

This hard-earned victory saw Nese come out on top after a mini-tournament was held on 205 Live to determine Murphy’s opponent. Over the past few weeks, he has defeated both Kalisto and Drew Gulak before last night’s win over Alexander.

WWE uploaded a clip following Nese’s victory on the show. The video features Murphy making his way down to the ring to seemingly congratulate his friend. After encouraging Nese to celebrate his moment by pointing to the ‘Mania sign, Murphy would then attack him with a bicycle knee as Nese turned back around. The champ would then stand over his fallen friend, raising the championship over his head in a clear statement.

Are you looking forward to their matchup at WrestleMania 35? Would you have preferred another 205 Live Superstar to have had this opportunity over Nese?

Jim Ross Underwhelmed By Kurt Angle WrestleMania 35 Announcement

WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle’s retirement match has been confirmed. On last night’s (Mon. March 18, 2019) episode of Monday Night RAW, Angle announced he’d be facing Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35. Angle wants revenge for the hell Corbin caused him when he was General Manager of RAW.

However, upon the announcement, fans were extremely disappointed with the decision. Instead, chants of “we want Cena” broke out. John Cena is expected to be competing at WrestleMania 35, but is currently without an opponent. It looks like the likes of WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross share the WWE Universe’s disappointment.

In response to the news of Angle vs. Corbin at WrestleMania, Ross called the news “underwhelming” on Twitter:

Even Angle’s wife, Giovanna, had some unfavorable comments about the match-up on Twitter. She initially Tweeted out, “The fans chanting We want Cena…..we feel ya!” She later responded to Ross’ “underwhelming” Tweet with, “Very.” Both of Giovanna’s Tweets have since been deleted.
