Former WWE Star Says John Morrison Is In “The Doghouse”

While watching John Morrison suffer another loss on the Raw SuperShow Monday, former WWE talent Sean Waltman attributed The Prince of Parkour’s recent struggles to his dismissive treatment of revered women’s wrestler Trish Stratus at WrestleMania XXVII.

Waltman wrote on Twitter, “Eventually they will take Morrison out of the dog house. He brought it on himself with the way he treated Trish Stratus at WM.”

In response to a remark that Morrison’s days with the sports-entertainment league are coming to an end, he wrote, “If he was smart he’d ride out the storm. HHH was in the doghouse forever & now look.”

While promoting the release of Ball Enforcers in April, Stratus confirmed reports that Morrison behaved in disregard to her during their post-match celebration at WrestleMania XXVII. She also stated that he passed over suggestions she had for the bout.

“I got a bit of cold shoulder action, correct,” Stratus said in response to an interview question that Morrison snubbed her following their match against Michelle McCool, Layla and Dolph Ziggler at the event. “John Morrison himself is amazing. He’s a great athlete. I was really looking forward to working with him. I thought it would be cool if we could do some stuff together. He didn’t think it would be that cool. It happens.”

She continued, “Hey whatever. It happens. You know he’s into his thing and just didn’t think that I should part of his thing I guess, but I still admire him as an athlete, as a performer. I think he does a great job out there. Cold shoulder? Yeah I felt it. I was shunned. Some people are not smart maybe? You know they wrestle well, but maybe they’re not smart. I don’t know.”

According to the Pro Wrestling Torch, friends of Morrison were shocked by his cold behavior towards the legendary female performer. The assumption of many within WWE is that Melina, his significant other, was in his ear earlier because she believed Stratus was taking “her spot” at the annual pay-per-view extravaganza.

WWE sources say as Stratus was presenting match suggestions to Morrison backstage, he said things such as “I’m not feeling that” (a phrase coined several years ago by Hulk Hogan in World Championship Wrestling) and “I don’t want to look at you.”

WrestleMania 27 Brought $62 Million To Atlanta

WWE sent out the following press release on Monday, touting the tremendous economic effect WrestleMania has for its host city:

WrestleMania(R) Makes Record $62 Million for Atlanta

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct 24, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — WWE(R) announced today that WrestleMania XXVII generated $62.1 million in economic impact for the city of Atlanta, according to a study conducted by the Enigma Research Corporation.

This is a new record for WrestleMania’s economic impact, and a $17 million increase over WrestleMania XXVI. WrestleMania XXVII also generated approximately $7.8 million in local, state and county taxes.

“We are proud to have partnered with an organization that not only helped significantly contribute to the economy of Atlanta, but also gave back to the community in a multitude of ways,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. “WrestleMania Week brought tens of thousands of fans from across the world to our great city and furthered Atlanta’s reputation as one of the sports and entertainment capitals of the world. We look forward to the possibility of hosting a future WrestleMania.”

“WWE is thrilled that the city of Atlanta and the great state of Georgia were the recipients of the largest economic windfall to date for WrestleMania,” said John P. Saboor, Senior Vice President of Special Events for WWE. “We would like to thank Mayor Reed and all of the public and private sector partners in Atlanta for embracing WWE and our worldwide fans, and for helping create an exceptional outcome for WrestleMania XXVII.”

A capacity crowd of 71,617 fans from all 50 states and 30 countries attended WWE’s pop culture extravaganza this past April. Key highlights from the study included:

— $62.1 million of direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending by non-locals visiting specifically for WrestleMania XXVII.

— 75% of fans that attended WrestleMania were from outside the Atlanta area, with 61% staying three nights or more.

— The economic impact derived from WrestleMania Week equated to the creation of 621 full-time jobs for the area.

— 52% of fans that attended WrestleMania were between the ages of 20 and 34, 21% were under the age of 20 and 20% were between the ages of 35 and 49.

“WrestleMania XXVII was a tremendous success and provided a positive financial impact on metro Atlanta,” said Dan Corso, Atlanta Sports Council Executive Director. “This is a noteworthy example of our city’s collaborative ability to recruit and successfully host major sporting events, and it hopefully bodes well for securing a future WrestleMania.”

Next year, WrestleMania XXVIII will take place Sunday, April 1 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL. The main event will feature John Cena(R) taking on The Rock(R) in an epic encounter. The event will be broadcast on pay-per-view, and viewed in more than 100 countries. Tickets go on sale Saturday, November 5 at 10 AM EST through all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

Enigma Research Corporation is an international consulting firm which specializes in measuring the economic impact of special events. Enigma’s economists developed a customized model which converted expenditures into economic impact, employment created and taxes generated as a result of the event.

CM Punk Under Consideration For Title Match At WrestleMania

CM Punk is in “top consideration” for the WWE Championship Match at WrestleMania XXVIII since company officials are leaning against the title being on the line in the match pitting John Cena against The Rock.

The heavily hyped bout is not expected to be for the title because WWE brass feel the finish would be too obvious since fans don’t expect The Rock to leave WrestleMania as champion.

Cena will reportedly be removed from the title picture following Sunday’s Vengeance pay-per-view, which would indicate that Alberto Del Rio will retain the title in their Last Standing Match. Cena will begin building towards his partnership with The Rock at Survivor Series while Del Rio is expected to enter a program with Punk.

WWE Considering Airing WrestleMania On Planned Cable Network

WWE issued a survey yesterday regarding their planned WWE Network launch next year to select mailing list subscribers. The survey suggests that WWE’s “classic big 4” pay-per-view events would be included in the channel at no additional cost.

Imagine a 24-hour cable network that was run by The WWE. It featured a mix of WWE-made programs, including new shows, repeats of Raw and SmackDown from USA and Syfy and “classic” or “historical” programs featuring shows from different promotions like classic WWE footage, WCW, ECW, NWA, AWA, etc. from years past.

It would have two new weekly WWE live in-ring shows (wrestling), but not SmackDown or Raw.

It would have a daily live in-studio viewer interactive show similar to SportsCenter.

Additionally, this network would include WWE’s “classic big 4” pay-per-view events including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble to the lineup at no additional cost. Rather than having to pay for them, they would now be specials with the same match quality you’re used to seeing on pay-per-view for no additional cost. These 4 events would only be available on The WWE Network.

In addition to The WWE Network, you would receive approximately 30 additional channels including NFL Network, NBA TV, Biography Channel, Fox Business Network and Fuel TV.

How interested would you be in upgrading your service for an additional $7-$12 per month to a tier which would include the WWE Network described above?

Bryan On Being Bumped Off ‘Mania, Superstars Matches Taped

— After losing the United States Championship to Sheamus on the March 14 episode of Raw, Daniel Bryan was scheduled to receive his re-match at WrestleMania XXVII. The match was re-scheduled as a pre-show dark match on the day of the event; a lumberjack match that ended in a no contest when the lumberjacks fought among themselves to trigger the start of a battle royal. Speaking to WWE Magazine, Bryan offered his reaction on being bumped off the card.

“I go with the flow with a lot of things. Obviously, it was upsetting. Nobody told use beforehand or pulled us aside and said, “Listen guys, we’re sorry.” That was the most disappointing thing,” Bryan said.

“And of course, I wanted that ‘Mania moment. You’re not going to get it in a pre-show match. But I once slept in the trunk of my car, so it wasn’t the end of the world.

— Matches taped tonight in Ottawa, Ontario for this week’s episode of WWE Superstars are as follows:

* Drew McIntyre vs. Zack Ryder

* Mason Ryan vs. Primo

Boxing Match To Take Place From WrestleMania 28?

David Tua & Monte Barrett

Next year’s WrestleMania 28 from Miami could be the third WrestleMania to feature a boxing match, according to a report on BoxingScene.com.

Heavyweight boxer Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett, a good friend of John Cena, says he is interested in fighting David Tua for a third time at WrestleMania next April.

Barrett told the Boxing Scene that he plans to speak to Cena about putting the fight together. Barrett says he’s already exchanged text messages with Cena, who said he’d talk to WWE officials about it.

Barrett, who is currently dealing with a broken jaw suffered in his fight against Tua this weekend, says he wouldn’t mind having the match in a steel cage.

David Tua is a member of the Anoa’i family and is the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Afa Anoa’i.

As previously mentioned, this would not be the first time a boxing match was featured at WrestleMania. WrestleMania 2 featured a worked boxing fight between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mr. T, while WrestleMania XV featured a legitimate tough-man fight between Bart Gunn and Butterbean.

Cena Responds To Rumors Of ‘Mania Match Being In Jeopardy

WWE Champion John Cena has responded to rumors of his scheduled match with The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII being in jeopardy. A fan asked Cena on Twitter, “Any truth to the rumours that a top WWE exec wants your match with The Rock removed from the WM 28 card?”

Cena denied the report, indicating that his dream match with The Rock will still take place as scheduled:

“none at all. That match needs to happen. If they kick us out we will fight.in parking lot.”

The rumor is attributed to the Wrestling Observer, as they reported last week that a high-ranking executive with great influence over Vince McMahon is lobbying for the match in Rock’s hometown of Miami, Florida to be canceled.

The executive is said to be concerned that WWE’s premiere star, Cena, will be heavily booed during the biggest show of the year.

What do you think – with the amount of hype WWE has already invested in Cena-Rock, could they get away with not delivering? COMMENT BELOW and tell us what you think.

– WWE’s annual goal for WrestleMania is for the event to draw 1 million pay-per-view buys worldwide. According to the company’s official preliminary estimate, the show did 1,042,000 buys worldwide – so it appears The Rock’s involvement was enough to put them over the top.

– As reported here earlier this week, WWE is continuing its recent initiative to once again feature managers – with former WWE personality Armando Alejandro Estrada returning at Tuesday’s Superstars tapings from Spokane, WA and managing Tyson Kidd. Estrada reportedly met with WWE officials about a possible return several months ago when the company was touring in Long Island, NY.

– Randy Orton recently wrote on twitter about an embarrassing travel story. Apparently he sat down on what he believed to be his connecting flight to St. Louis, but then found out that the flight he was on was a flight to Fayetteville, NC and had to be escorted off his flight after alerting the flight crew.

WrestleMania 27 Gate & Attendence Figures Are In

Official WrestleMania 27 numbers were released this past week and are different from the numbers announced publicly by WWE.

There was actually 68,190 total seats available at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The listed total tickets used for the big event was 61,617, according to information released this past week in arena business journals. This is 10,000 less than the 71,617 announced that night by WWE. With luxury boxes figured in, that number would probably increase closer to 65,000. The Dome was listed as 90% full and not a complete sellout, even though there were no tickets available for most of the last few weeks going into the show.

The gate for WrestleMania 27 was $6,268,319 – below the $6.6 million WWE announced after the show.

The 61,617 tickets for WrestleMania 27 would make it the tenth largest crowd in WWE history, not the fifth largest as announced with the original numbers. This year’s show drew exactly six more people than WrestleMania 25 in Houston, Texas.

As for the WrestleMania 27 buyrate, based on when WWE releases their numbers, they may not be available until late May because the show took place in April and not March. With WWE doing its quarterly investors meeting on May 5th, they may release the buyrate information at that time.

Bret Hart Explains Why He Was Disappointed With WM27

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart recently spoke with SunSport and shared his thoughts on WrestleMania 27. The Hitman said overall, he was disappointed with the show and despite all the buildup, found it “anti-climactic.” Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Rock’s Involvement:

“I was hoping The Rock would be a little more interesting than he was. I would have had him involved in the John Cena v Miz match right off the bat. My initial thinking about two months ago was that Rock was going to be working with Cena and somehow Miz would be involved, and it would be a triple threat type of match. I thought Rock needed to be in the match, not just talking about it. Don’t get me wrong — Rock is a great talent. Just looking at him, I think he is ready to get back in the ring. I’m sure he could have wrestled at WrestleMania and he should have done so. The excitement going in to WrestleMania this year was all tied in with Rock and when he didn’t actually do anything but stand around and be a mouthpiece all night, that didn’t really work. To me as a fan, if I want to see him be a mouthpiece then I’ll watch one of his movies. I wanted to see him do some wrestling. I guess I just expected a little bit more.”

Sheamus-Bryan Getteing Bumped & Cole vs. Lawler:

“I also had to scratch my head and wonder how the WWE could pull the Sheamus v Daniel Bryan match and let Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole go for 30 minutes. It just seemed really crazy to me. My biggest disappointment was that two of the best wrestlers in the company, Bryan and Sheamus, didn’t get a chance to show what they can do on a WrestleMania. I thought Lawler v Cole was built up really well, with most fans wanting to get their hands round Cole’s neck by the time WrestleMania came. But I don’t know why they went so long. It’s not a match that needs to go very long. Michael Cole clearly can’t actually do anything. That’s the part I don’t get. It should have been about four or five minutes long max. Sadly going so long, meant they really took all the light away from the other wrestlers that earned it through the year.”

CM Punk vs. Randy Orton:

“He (CM Punk) has got a really good ring presence. Better than anyone else, CM Punk understands his wrestling persona. He’s very serious about that character, and I like that passion that he has. It comes across in how he is day-to-day, just being around him. He’s a very committed, serious professional. His match with Orton, I thought, was really credible. To put together the match the way they did I thought it complemented both wrestlers, and they really told a good story. I liked the story, I liked the finish. It had a lot of twists and turns, you weren’t quite sure what was going to occur. I found myself going along with it all the way through and not knowing what was going to happen next — and to me that is a good wrestling match.”

WWE Unhappy With WM27 Booking (Cena-Miz & Lawler-Cole)

WrestleMania 27 is in the books and the overall feeling we’ve been hearing is that the show had the “big time” WrestleMania feeling, but the booking of several of the top matches was executed poorly.

We reported shortly before and in the days following WrestleMania that Vince McMahonwas said to be “frantic” backtage and several aspects of the show were re-written just hours before it went on the air.

WWE has been examining the broad from top to bottom in hopes of  and taking a look at what could have been done better – and two matches in particular are standing out – John Cena vs. The Miz main event and the Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler special attraction match.

Many think that the double countout finish of the WWE title match was a disaster and not a satisfying finish for the main event of WrestleMania, despite the fact that the entire thing was approved by Vince McMahon the day of the show.

There is also some heat on WWE agent Dean Malenko for the way he laid out the Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler match. While this one seemed like a no-brainer to book, anybody who saw the match would agree that Michael Cole’s was given way too much offense, which killed the energy of the live crowd.

Update On Ashley Massaro, WrestleMania Trivia Note, More

— It was reported earlier that former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro no-showed the K&S Wrestlefest “Super Saturday” event in Essington, Pennsylvania. She was also scheduled to film a “shoot” interview for Highspots.com.

The former Playboy was in regular contact with event organizers until the week of the show, at which point both of her contact numbers were disconnected. She posted a few messages on her Twitter account yesterday and made no mention of the situation. She did, however, reveal that she is engaged.

— No match at WrestleMania XXVII went over 15 minutes sans Triple H vs. The Undertaker, which lasted approximately 30 minutes. John Cena vs. The Miz went 14 minutes and 43 when it was ruled a draw. The restarted match lasted 35 seconds.

— Goldust celebrates his birthday today as he turns 42 years old. Also celebrating birthdays are WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race (68) and Balls Mahoney (39).

WWE Cancels Plans To Use Horse At ‘Mania, Update On Shane

— WWE originally planned for Triple H to ride a Clydesdale horse to the ring for his match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII. During a test run, the horse fell through the trap door on the WrestleMania stage, with Hunter riding it. The horse was spooked and went wild. Plans for the ring entrance were immediately scrapped.

— Shane McMahon was not on hand for last week’s WrestleMania festivities. Vince and Linda McMahon still see his children, and he still has a good relationship with Stephanie, but the belief is that he has no plans on ever returning to WWE.

The Pro Wrestling Torch speculates that Shane, who was at one point pegged as Vince’s successor, mainly parted ways with the organization last year because he has absolutely no interest in dealing with the corporate politics.

It was announced last August that McMahon had signed a deal to become the new CEO of China Broadband Inc., a provider of cable broadband services, as well as other digital and analog related services, in the Shandong Province of the People’s Republic of China. The company is based in Boulder, Colorado.

Goldust Says He May Retire Soon, Reaction To WrestleMania

— Goldust, who is currently nursing a shoulder injury, stated today on his Twitter account that he may retire soon.

He wrote, “Guys i think im gonna retire pretty soon.”

He added, “Listen i love all of our roster….they work their #!@%*#es off and they r getting faster and stronger and better each day…very proud of all of em.”

— Internally, there is said to be a lot of criticism and second guessing regarding Sunday’s WrestleMania XXVII pay-per-view event. Many of the items fans were critical of, such as the conclusion of the show and the Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole match, were the same criticisms officials had.

— Chris Jericho appears on That Metal Show tonight at 11:00 p.m. on VH1 Classic. The episode replays several times over the next week.

Snooki Done Wrestling, WM27 Gate, Gail Kim Getting Married

– Last night’s WWE Superstars broadcast was the final episode that will air on WGN America.

– Prior to her first WWE match at WrestleMania XXVII on Sunday, Jersey Shore star Snooki had been saying that she planned to become a full-time WWE diva when MTV’s Jersey Shore ended. On Tuesday, Snooki changed her tune – telling TMZ.com that her wrestling days were over.

It’s now come out that the reason for her change of heart is that Snooki and Jersey Shore co-star JWoww, who appeared for TNA Wrestling last year, are getting their own spin-off show on MTV. Snooki’s representatives have made it clear that there will be no more appearances for WWE in the near future.

I know you guys were REALLY hoping for more Snooki in WWE ..

– Sunday’s WrestleMania 27 from Atlanta’s Georgia Dome was the second highest live gate in WrestleMania history – bringing in $6.6 million for the company. This includes ticket and merchandise sales – not pay-per-view buyrates. WrestleMania 27 ranks second only behind WrestleMania 25 from Houston, Texas, which brought in a staggering $7.2 million live gate. (Source: f4wonline.com)

WWE has high hopes that this year’s WrestleMania will break 1 million buys.

– Tammy “Sunny” Sytch wrote on Twitter this week that a current WWE diva was getting married soon a celebrity chef, but did not reveal who the lucky lady was. We’ve learned that the diva in question is none other than Gail Kim, who is marrying celebrity chef Robert Irvine.
