2K Games is promoting this as the final DLC pack for WWE 2K22.

Cody Rhodes Optimistic About WWE 2K22 Addition

Cody Rhodes returned to the WWE after leaving AEW as Seth Rollins’ surprise opponent at WrestleMania 38. After six long years away from the company, the American Nightmare signed a multi-year deal with WWE.

A month earlier on March 11, WWE 2K22 was released. Fans never expected Rhodes to be part of the game’s roster, and he wasn’t featured in it. None of the downloadable content (DLC) announced for the game so far includes Rhodes.

A recent report, however, suggests that WWE actually wanted Rhodes in the game but it never materialized.

According to Sports Gamers Online, since WWE knew about Rhodes’ return since February, they wanted him in the game but it was “too short of a notice for the developers at 2K.”

A source close to the development team said, “WWE tried, but it was quickly shot down.”

“They knew it was unlikely, but you don’t know for sure unless you ask,” the source added.

Rhodes responded to the story, saying that he can bet the folks at 2K are at it to present something special for fans.

“I don’t know the talented folks at @WWEgames but I’m a pretty decent gambler and I would bet they’re working very hard on something special for pro wrestling fans,” Rhodes wrote.

In a statement released on May 19, 2K announced that they were removing Nash Carter from the Stand Back Pack DLC after he was released from the company back in April. The statement said that they were removing him so that fans get “the most authentic representation of the WWE Universe.”

Cody Rhodes is currently in a program with Seth Rollins and the two men will face each other for the third time at Hell In A Cell on Sunday, June 5. Click here for all news coverage of the event by SEScoops.

WWE 2K19 and WWE 2K20 Servers to be Shut Down

The servers for WWE 2K19 and WWE 2K20 are to be shut down next month.

In a statement on the official WWE Games Twitter account, it was noted that the servers will be taken offline on June 30 with all online functions being terminated.

This includes online matches and Community Creations, where fans are able to upload their own custom Superstars, titles, and arenas for others to use.

The decision to take these servers offline was so that those involved can turn their “full focus toward supporting WWE 2K22.”

The long road to WWE 2K22

After the dismal launch of WWE 2K20 in late 2019, WWE and 2K Games took a year longer with their next installment, effectively canceling the WWE 2K21 game.

WWE 2K22 was meant to launch in late 2021 but was delayed by the developers who had to update the game to reflect WWE’s roster cuts.

It was reported that the relationship between WWE and 2K had grown strained with WWE 2K22 being seen as a ‘make or break’ game for both parties.

It was reported in March that WWE had been speaking to EA Games about a possible new partner if WWE 2K22 was poorly received.

WWE 2K22 has been met with positive reviews from both fans and critics and earned a 7/10 by SEScoops‘ own Tyriece Simon.

Bray Wyatt Confirms Nixed WWE 2K22 Storyline Featuring ‘The Shiend’

Windham Rotunda aka Bray Wyatt has confirmed a nixed storyline for the new WWE 2K22 video game that would have seen Dana Brooke becoming ‘The Shiend.’

There had been a rumor going around recently that the current 24/7 champion was supposed to join forces with the Eater Of Worlds before his release from the promotion.

According to the leaks, Brooke was to be possessed by Rotunda’s character. This would have led to her becoming the female version of The Fiend, dubbed The Shiend.

However, the now-former WWE star responded to these claims on Twitter. He revealed that the whole thing was an angle that was originally planned for the 2K22 video game:

Bray Wyatt was released from his WWE contract in July last year. This ended his 12 year-long stint with the promotion which included multiple world title reigns.

He has mostly been away from wrestling since his departure from the Vince McMahon-owned promotion. Rotunda had talks with Impact Wrestling but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement

There has been complete silence about his future in the industry since then. The former WWE star is currently busy filming a horror movie. He doesn’t seem to have any immediate plans to make a wrestling return.

WWE 2K22 Review: Is it Worth the Wait?

WWE and 2K hope to revitalize the WWE 2K series with WWE 2K22.

After more than two years from producing a WWE game, 2K will release the ninth installment of the WWE 2K series on Mar. 11. However, if you buy the NWO edition, you could’ve played the game on Mar. 8.

WWE 2K22 hopes to correct the mistakes of the failure of their previous game. WWE 2K20 was barely playable upon release on Oct. 21, 2019. The game was such a failure that WWE 2K21 was scrapped entirely. 2K vowed to re-conceptualize the once-beloved franchise and provide fans the best-in-class wrestling video game they deserve.

The question is, did they succeed?

WWE 2K22 Graphics and Gameplay

WWE 2K22 graphics are excellent, and the best any WWE game has ever looked. 2K did an excellent job on the face models. I didn’t notice any glitches upon the first couple of matches, and the crowd models looked good compared to previous games.

WWE 2k22 gameplay is more challenging than different WWE 2K games. The game starts with a much-needed tutorial with Drew Gulak, and it introduces a new combo system where you can land several strikes and finish with the different grappling moves.

The game changed the way you reverse and counter moves. The Y button (on Xbox) allows you to counter, which I thought the animation looked smooth. In this game, Reversal is about timing, as you have to press Y at the right time of an attack. You can also hold the button to block strikes, which is the first I’ve seen in a WWE game. Depending on your character build, you can also roll out of the way or dodge.

Another gameplay feature is that an opponent can be vulnerable to big moves if they are stunned. This element makes a player think strategically about causing enough damage to make an unavoidable finishing move.

WWE 2K22 Showcase Rey Mysterio_

Rey Mysterio Showcase Mode

The WWE 2K22 cover star is Rey Mysterio, who also has his own WWE Showcase mode. 2K chose Mysterio because he’s entering his 20th year as a WWE Superstar. The latest 2K series game recreates Mysterio’s most memorable matches and moments. Although, wrestling fans may be conflicted about 2K’s choices to highlight.

Mysterio’s showcase breaks into four parts with 12 matches, Viva La Raza, El Campeon, Su Majestad, and La Leyenda. He narrates his early beginnings and mentions his career in ECW AND WCW. The game also shows footage from moments of his career before you play one of his matches.

WWE 2K22 only has one match from his time in WCW. You get to play Mysterio against Eddie Guerrero in their famous match from Halloween Havoc on Oct. 26, 1997. It is disappointing that you don’t get the whole experience like in past games, and you don’t get to have the players recreate the entrances. After completing the Halloween Havoc, The showcase then jumps to his match against Guerrero at Wrestlemania 21 on Apr. 3, 2005.

2K decided to have actual footage of the match instead of recreating the moments like in past games. You play the match, and then going to a cut scene could disinterest players that wanted to relive those moments by playing them. The objectives they have you do in the game don’t add to these cut scenes. You are playing a wrestling match and inflicting damage until it requires you to make a move to cause the cut scene.

Unfortunately, 2K couldn’t get other Mysterio matches from WCW or ECW. The showcase mode falls short, and it’s a shame 2K couldn’t have more moments from Mysterio’s career.

WWE 2K My GM Mode

WWE 2K22 brings back a fan favorite mode that WWE games haven’t used since the WWE Smackdown vs. Raw series.

My GM Mode allows you to play between your created character, William Regal, Adam Pierce, Sonya Deville, Stephanie, and Shane McMahon. Each character has a particular perk you can use as a general manager. For example, Regal allows you to sign a legend to your roster for free. You can choose to be a general manager for Smackdown, Raw, NXT, or NXT UK. Each brand also has unique perks.

The max that the GM Mode can last is 50 weeks. You choose another general manager to be your rival and have a draft. You start with 2.75 million dollars as your budget to draft talent for your brand.

The game gives you tips on what could help your brand. WWE 2K lets you know who is a draw, if they are babyface or heel, and how much they cost. It also allows you to see how each wrestler’s style can make a good match. After you draft your roster, you decide who your champion is and book your first show. You could also sign free agents or legends to your roster, as long as you have the budget.

Unfortunately, you can’t do different match types that don’t involve either a tag team or singles match. While it could be disappointing, the WWE 2K22 GM Mode is a step in the right direction and has the most replay value from the newest modes. WWE 2K22 fans could strategize and be creative on putting on the best show. GM Mode is rewarding and welcomed to the WWE 2K series.

My Rise Mode

My Rise is 2K’s attempt at making a wrestling career mode enjoyable. While it does introduce a new story, it still lacks ambition and creativity.

You get to create your superstar and rise from the performance center to the main roster. When creating your character, you also pick the superstar background that will give you attribute bonuses like MMA or Pro athlete.

My Rise doesn’t offer an improvement on the WWE version of my career. The character model during cut scenes is terrible. For example, the people you interact with barely change their facial expressions, and the voice acting doesn’t really synch up with the character. While My Rise may be a step up in the 2K Series, fans should keep in mind the work 2K does for the NBA2K series.

When you compare the two, you can tell 2K isn’t putting enough attention to detail or creativity into WWE’s career mode. NBA 2K series feels like your created character is playing in the NBA and dealing with potential issues basketball players face. WWE 2K22 feels like your playing a story that doesn’t resemble a wrestler’s rise to WWE stardom.

WWE 2K22 MyFACTION
(Via 2K)

MY Faction Mode

My faction mode is 2K’s experiment into copying the success of NBA2K’s My Team. Like NBA 2K’s version, my faction mode is a collectible card game that allows you to create your faction. You can either win challenges or buy card packs to continue to add new wrestlers into your faction.

WWE 2K22 version of a collectible card game is a fascinating concept. The mode can make you want to go through challenges to unlock rewards. However, the downside is that it’s single players only. Hopefully, the next WWE 2K game allows players to use their factions online to compete against each other.

WWE 2K22 Rey Mysterio

Overall Thoughts & Score for WWE 2K22

WWE 2K22 is a significant improvement from their last game and could arguably be one of the best in the WWE 2K series. It seems 2K wanted to redeem themselves for WWE 2K20, which fans may believe they did. However, that’s not to say that WWE 2K22 doesn’t have flaws. The Mysterio showcase and the lack of new match types could disappoint wrestling fans. While the My GM mode could be a fun addition to the new game, it still has room for improvement.

Regardless, fans may believe the gameplay and the graphics are worth trying WWE 2K22 alone. I played several matches, and I can’t wait to play with others. If you like wrestling games and the WWE 2K series, WWE 2K22 is a satisfying ninth installment.

We give WWE 2K22 a 7/10 rating.

WWE Could End Partnership With 2K Soon

There is a good chance that WWE’s partnership with 2K could come to an end after the release of the upcoming WWE 2K22 video game.

Fightful recently provided some update on the company’s strategy. They noted that the officials have had discussions with EA about bringing their game line-up over:

“Multiple sources have stated that WWE has had preliminary discussions with Electronic Arts (EA) about bringing the WWE Games line over to one of the top gaming publishers in the world.”

2K sports signed a contract to produce games for the Vince McMahon owned wrestling promotion back in 2016. Sources indicate that it was a six-year deal with the option for a potential extension

WWE 2K22 is set to be released on various platforms this Friday, March 11. The critical and commercial performance of the game could play a factor in the organization’s future with the game developers.

The last WWE game in 2K20 was poorly received by fans and critics. The bug-ridden gameplay was universally panned. It led to the cancellation of 2K21.

How would you feel about the promotion partnering with EA for future video games? Let us know your thoughts about it in the comment section below.

Paige Reacts to Being Left Out of WWE 2K22 Video Game

Paige is not happy she has been left off the roster for the new WWE 2K22 video game.

The WWE 2K22 Roster was revealed this week and features 149 wrestlers. This includes 59 wrestlers who are no longer with the company or legends.

This will be the first time since 2014 that Paige has not been a playable character in the WWE video game. She remains under contract with WWE for several more months, but is not one of the 149 people in this year’s game.

Paige previously appeared in the past six WWE video games (WWE 2K15-20).

On Monday, Paige asked the official @WWEGames Twitter account,

“where tf am i?”

https://twitter.com/realpaigewwe/status/1498440437312327684?s=217:27

Paige also asked @WWEGames about several other women left out of the game, including the Bella Twins, Zelina Vega and Doudrop.

Paige, the Bella Twins and others may eventually be released as downloadable content.

Former WWE/NXT star JONAH (Bronson Reed) also reacted to the WWE 2K22 roster list.

WWE 2K22 DLC Plans Scrapped Due To Releases

The rocky road continues for WWE’s video game franchise. The game was initially scheduled to be released this fall, but has been delayed to early/mid 2022.

Back in August, reports surfaced regarding tensions between WWE and game developer 2K. WWE has released dozens of wrestlers this year, which led many fans to wonder what this would mean for the WWE 2K22 roster. The drastic talent cuts have in fact caused problems with the game’s development, according to a report at Sports Gamer Online.

Plans for at least one Downloadable Content pack had to be scrapped. The DLC pack was going to revolve around former NXT star Bronson Reed.

Other wrestlers that had been expected to be DLC for the game included Mercedes Martinez, Tyler Rust, and Leon Ruff. Nothing has been confirmed as to how WWE 2K22 will handle DLC releases for the game. There is talk of scrapping them altogether, however.

Back in August, a source to SGO commented that the releases are likely to cause a very outdated roster. “This is shaping up to be the most outdated roster a game has seen,” the source revealed.

It was also noted that WWE was against the idea of delaying the release of the game. The studio felt they needed to go that route, however.

“Most of those within WWE wanted the game to release in its normal Survivor Series window. Those from 2K Sports and Visual Concepts, on the other hand, pushed hard for a delay of the launch,” wrote Michael Straw from Sports Gamer Online.

WWE & 2K Relationship Strained Due To WWE 2K22 Delay (Report)

It was announced recently that the WWE 2K22 video game will not be released until March of next year. After WWE 2K20 was poorly reviewed by fans and critics, no WWE 2K21 game was released last year. Typically, the game had been released in October each year.

According to a report from Sports Gamers Online, the delay of the game and other decisions relating to it has led to a strained relationship between WWE and the developers.

“Most of those within WWE wanted the game to release in its normal Survivor Series window. Those from 2K Sports and Visual Concepts, on the other hand, pushed hard for a delay of the launch,” wrote Michael Straw.

Roster Cuts Impacting Game Development

One factor said to have played a role in the delay is the recent roster cuts. This version of the game is being rebuilt from the ground up. This means that many wrestlers have had new character models created. Several wrestlers that had been scanned and had their character models created are now no longer with the company, however.

“This is shaping up to be the most outdated roster a game has seen,” a source told Sports Gamer Media.

This report is consistent with previous reports that an internal memo in WWE reportedly requested that Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan be removed from the game.

WWE Upset With Response To WWE 2K20

WWE was reportedly quite upset with the response to the 2K20 game. They reportedly hinted to game developers that they could move forward with a new company instead.

“It was like threats to cancel cable,” one person said. “Threats would come out of them claiming to have interest from one company here or there. I don’t know how credible that was though, or just idle threats.”

The developers who spoke with the outlet say they are trying to do everything they can to make the best game possible.

“We are fans and gamers like everyone out there,” one developer said. “We are doing everything we possibly can to make the wrestling game fans want. From modes to how it feels in the ring, we want this to be the wrestling fan’s wrestling game.”

Snoop Dogg Says WWE Disciplined Him For AEW Appearance

Rap Icon Snoop Dogg recently appeared on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning podcast. The star behind hits such as ‘Gin N Juice’ and ‘Nuttin But a G Thang” discussed a number of topics during the podcast, including how WWE were not happy that he appeared in AEW.

Snoop got physical on the January 6th “New Year’s Smash” edition of AEW Dynamite. He hit a ‘frog splash’ (if you can call it that) during the show as part of promo for the Go-Big Show on TBS.

“Let me tell you this, Snoop Dogg ain’t no wrestler. He’s bigger than that” Snoop Dogg began, speaking on the podcast. “You gotta understand that. This is the dynamics of what happened: I had a show on TBS called Go-Big Show.

“So, Cody Rhodes was one of the judges on the show, and he’s one of the top dogs at AEW” Snoop noted. “So, as a promotional vehicle for the gig, I went on AEW.”

Snoop Dogg’s AEW Appearance

Snoop reveals that WWE disciplined him for his appearance on AEW Dynamite by putting their working relationship on hold.

Recounting WWE’s communication to him, Snoop said, “‘Hey, you running with them? We got to push pause on your ass for a minute. So, I stayed cool. They pushed pause for about two weeks, and then they go, ‘Hey man, we got this video game and we need you.’”

Snoop’s appearance on AEW Dynamite got a lot of attention for his less-than-graceful dive off the top rope. His cousin, WWE Superstar Sasha Banks, teased him on social media that his moves need a little work.

WWE 2K22 Potentially Not Coming To Next Generation Consoles

Over WrestleMania 37 weekend, 2K announced that WWE 2K22 is “Coming Soon” although few other details were revealed. After WWE 2K20 was met with negative reviews, 2K Sports announced WWE 2K21 would not be released. Instead, the team would spend additional time developing WWE 2K22. A rumor that the upcoming game will not be available for next-generation consoles is currently gaining steam online, however.

After WWE 2K1 was canceled last year, a former writer for the game posted to his YouTube channel that WWE 2K22 would not make the jump to next-generation consoles. That belief has been bolstered recently by an online thread from Twitter users stating ads on Instagram stories for the game only mention PS4 and Xbox One.

“I got an ad (the ones you get when you go through IG stories) from 2K that advertised 2K22 and it only showed PS4/XBOX One. Also, Playstation released the trailer on their YT channel and at first it was titled as “WWE 2K22 Trailer | PS5” but changed to PS4 soon after,” the thread continued.

Developing Games For Different Consoles

As 2K Sports looks to re-build the franchise after a disastrous WWE 2K20 edition, it is being speculated that developing games for both current and next generation consoles would make this more difficult. Additionally, next generation consoles have been difficult for many people to obtain due to lack of availability.

“Do you think 2K had enough time to make a PS4 version with everything people wanted and ALSO a PS5 version with more features?” Another Tweet read.

Sports Gamers Online reached out to 2K regarding this rumor and received the following response:

“We have nothing to share at this time. We’ll share more information on WWE 2K22 soon.”

If 2K does not release a game for next generation consoles, that could make the pending AEW video game the first on the new devices. The AEW console game is rumoured for an early 2022 release.
